As for writing this article (early February 2025), the RTX 5080 ticks the box in terms of price as well as it is currently $118 cheaper than the RX 7900 XTX. We don’t know how long it will stay at this price point because the prices of new cards usually rise shortly after their release.
Final Verdict—What We Recommend?
RX 7900 XTX: The RX 7900 XTX performed quite well in 4K gaming, especially with FSR set to quality. In some games, the RX 7900 XTX showed better raw performance, giving a better price-to-dollar ratio comparatively. It also showed higher power consumption and temperatures and is currently slightly pricier.
RTX 5080: This card, on the other hand, surpassed each section with flying colors. It has both performances, and it has ticked all the boxes for efficiency as well. Not only that, but the RTX 5080 use of the newer DLSS 4 and AI makes it a better option for future-proofing, since both of these will become increasingly important.
Conclusively, if the RTX 5080’s price exceeds way the RX 7900 XTX’s price, we’d suggest you get the RX 7900 XTX since it will offer value for money. However, if the price remains similar and lower than that of the RX 7900 XTX, we recommend the RTX 5080 as it offers much more for its price when compared to its rival.

Saber Interactive CEO thinks that layoffs in the gaming industry are happening because of increasing budgets.
AAA game budgets on average increase by more than twice every console generation.
There have been colossal failures like Skull and Bones and Concord so the CEO’s statement makes total sense.
The game budget and development time have been continuously increasing and that isn’t a good thing. Sequels of certain games now take years to develop and cost hundreds of dollars.
While this increases the anticipation and hype it increases risk too and one that any developer can take. There have been many multi-million dollar failures in the gaming industry and the Space Marine 2 boss thinks those are the main reasons for the layoffs.
Why it matters: It isn’t 100% necessary to develop games with a massive budget as Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has proved this already. The developer has been making Yakuza games with almost the same assets and you can already see how quickly it dishes out the next game that always receives a positive reception.
Speaking to Game File in a recent interview the CEO of Saber Interactive, Matt Karch, the developer behind one of the most notable releases of last year Space Marine 2 revealed that the main culprit behind the layoffs is the increasing budget of the video games.
I think that the age of the $200 million, $300 million, $400 million triple-A game is on its way out. I think if anything has contributed more to the loss of jobs, it’s the multi-hundred million dollar budget.
-Matt Karch
Karch doesn’t think it is necessary or appropriate for the games to cost this much and rightfully so. The only games that can get away with costing massive amounts of money are the likes of Red Dead Redemption 2 and Cyberpunk 2077 which managed to develop a dedicated fandom of their own.
The average AAA game budget has doubled every console generation and that is concerning. The Spider-Man 2018 cost $100 million to develop while the Spider-Man 2 released in 2022 cost $315 million.
That is more than twice and there was just a $10 difference in the price tag. Ubisoft is also a prime example of this scenario as the gaming giant has developed the first ever AAAA game and it was a colossal failure. So, Matt Karch’s statement makes total sense and measures should be taken.
What do you think about the statement from Space Marine 2 Boss? Do you think the AAA game costing hundreds of millions of dollars is fair? Share your thoughts with us in the comments section below or join the Tech4Gamers forums for discussion.

PSN is currently experiencing an outage that has lasted over 18 hours.
Various PS5 and PS4 users have lost access to their digital media amid the outage.
Sony has yet to provide clarification on the matter.
The PS5 is home to over 50 million gamers, and when combined with PS4 users, Sony boasts around 120 million users across PSN. The PlayStation Network unlocks access to thousands of games, millions of online gaming sessions, and digital purchases of all types for these 120 million users.
Unfortunately, users have been less than pleased with Sony’s service recently. According to reports flooding the internet, PSN has been down for a whopping 18 hours.
Why it matters: Online gaming is practically compulsory today due to the popularity of multiplayer titles and the prevalence of online-only elements in single-player titles.
Reports regarding PSN’s outage initially began appearing yesterday. Sony was also quick to respond and noted that it would investigate the matter, but no official statement has been made since then.
As per the PlayStation status page, services like account management, PlayStation Store, gaming, and more are impacted. Effectively, everything across PS4 and PS5 consoles has been affected.
Many users have even reported losing access to digital games due to the lack of online connectivity. In fact, the whole situation has led to discussions regarding the importance of physical media in such situations.
Fortunately, the PS6 is expected to retain a disc drive and support physical media.

A new quarterly earnings report by Take-Two reveals that Xbox seemingly only sold two million units in 2024.
By December 2023, Xbox was estimated to have rolled over 27 million consoles globally; the number only grew by 2 million by the next year’s end.
PlayStation had sold 65.5 million units by September 2024, leaving only 29 million sales for Xbox out of the 94 million estimate from Take-Two.
It is no surprise that the famous console wars era is now officially over, with PlayStation coming out on top of this generation in many departments. However, no one would have expected such a huge divide to form between both giants in hardware sales over the years.
Now, a new report suggests that Xbox only managed to roll over approximately 2 million units last year, a stark contrast when compared to how well PlayStation 5 performed throughout 2024.
Why it matters: Xbox only selling two million units worldwide in the last 12 months is quite a concerning development, but it also explains why the brand is shifting towards a multiplatform and software-focused strategy.
The new Take-Two report reveals that over 94 million 9th-gen consoles have been sold so far.
The latest quarterly earnings report by Take-Two reveals that over 94 million current-gen consoles were sold worldwide as of November 2024. It is a notable difference from 2023’s 77 million, based on the figure provided by Take-Two last year.
Out of these 94 million, Xbox is said to have only sold about 29 million consoles. Analysis from last year’s report revealed that Xbox had sold about 27 million consoles, indicating a measly 2 million increase.
The official PlayStation 5 sales grew to 65.5 million by the end of September 2024, likely standing even higher toward the end of 2024. Sony likely sold 66 million or more consoles by November, but that would lead to even fewer Xbox Series S|X units in Take-Two’s 94 million figure.
Ultimately, with 65.5 million or more consoles of 94 million being sold by Sony, Microsoft sold no more than 28.5 million Xbox Series S|X units in total. Even when rounding off and accounting for any additional sales throughout 2024, this figure likely topped out at 29 million.
Based on these estimations, Xbox Series X|S sales went up by 2 million units in 2024. Another report earlier this year suggested that the company recorded its worst yearly console sales numbers ever in 2024.
Microsoft’s gaming brand has stopped officially announcing its console sales, but these estimations reveal that the Xbox Series X|S barely sold a few million units at the very best.
Do you think Xbox selling only two million units in the entirety of 2024 is something Microsoft should be concerned about? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the official Tech4Gamers forum.

A new study reveals only 23% of developers do adequate QA for their video games.
According to the developers, the QA budget isn’t increasing on par with the complex video game development.
AI-driven QA testing is set to take over, with 94% of the developers thinking it’s the future.
Modl.ai, the AI-driven company that does QA for video games to detect bugs, performance issues, and more, has just published a new study regarding gaming QA. The study, which involved almost 300 professional developers from the US, revealed that a staggering 77% of developers don’t do sufficient QA for their titles.
Why it matters: Despite such big budgets, video games have been released in an underwhelming state full of bugs. This new study shows why, revealing a lack of QA testing for those hundreds of millions of dollars of games.
Star Wars Outlaws Was Full Of Game Breaking Bugs At Launch
This wasn’t the only statistic revealed from the study. 70.3% of the participants revealed that they had never launched a bug-free game. However, the reason why this is so is more interesting.
50% of the responders claim that the QA budgets aren’t increasing on par with the complexities of modern-day development, which are on an increased scale and cost more manpower and budgets.
This is the reason why modern titles launch in such a buggy state despite hundreds of millions of dollars allocated in their budget. Star Wars Outlaws cost around $200-300 million but was still launched in such a subpar state full of bugs. Similarly, the likes of Starfield had plenty of bugs at releases.
It Took Years For CDPR To Fix All The Bugs In Cyberpunk 2077 Before It Was In A Playable State
The whole situation is partly to be blamed on the actual development process, which has become so complex over the years. For example, the notorious Unreal Engine 5 has been known to ruin video game development.
Fixing all these problems late into development costs so much manpower and budget that it just isn’t sustainable before the release.
To combat this, AI-driven QA is taking over. 94% of the 300 developers believe AI is the future of shaping QA for video games and catching bugs and performance issues. However, currently, only 18% of the participants are ready to integrate AI across their development.
What do you think about developers not doing enough QA for their projects? Let us know in the comments below or head towards the official Tech4Gamers Forums.

The former Insomniac CEO revealed that the studio intended to make Resistance 4 many years back.
A concept was pitched after plenty of thought, but Sony was not interested in the project.
Despite the IP’s dormant nature, fans are still interested in another entry.
Insomniac is easily one of PlayStation’s best studios at the moment. Following critically acclaimed hits like Spider-Man 2 and a rich history with platformers, the developer has risen to new heights in recent years.
However, leaks from 2023 show that Insomniac has its hands full with Marvel IPs. Looking at the situation, fans yearn for additional variety from the studio, and a recent interview highlights that this is something the studio likely agrees with. At one point, it even pitched Resistance 4 to Sony.
Why it matters: Various IPs from the PS3 era have been abandoned for years, with Resistance being one of them. Since Sony is currently struggling to come up with timely first-party releases, these IPs can be brought back today.
Speaking during the latest Kinda Funny Gamescast, the former Insomniac CEO said that Resistance 4 was a wonderful pitch from the studio. He highlighted that the team was very passionate about the IP and believed that there was potential to expand the series’ story further.
Unfortunately, Sony rejected the pitch, and Ted Price believes this was mainly due to the timing. At that point, PlayStation was more focused on flagship IPs that would sell millions of copies, something that Spider-Man accomplished.
Still, the former CEO acknowledged that Resistance was special. He also noted that the opportunity to direct the first two games of the series continues to be a career highlight.
We did pitch that one (Resistance 4), and it was a wonderful concept. In terms of timing and market opportunity, it didn’t work out.
-Ted Price
Resistance Had A Small But Dedicated Fandom
More than a decade later, fans still want to see the franchise making a return, and with PlayStation’s newfound intent to revisit dormant IPs, there is hope that this will happen eventually.

Reports suggest that the next God of War game is headed to Greece and features a younger Kratos.
Earlier Egyptian setting rumors were also debunked.
The next game is allegedly about Kratos’ relationship with his father.
Since God of War: Ragnarok ended the Ghost of Sparta’s journey in Norse mythology, fans debated what setting Kratos should visit next. Previously, there have been rumors about a potential Egypt setting for the series.
In a new Insider Gaming podcast, reliable insider Tom Henderson revealed that the God of War franchise is headed back to Greece for the next entry.
Why it matters: While fans love the new Norse setting for God of War, many miss the older version of Kratos in the Greek setting. They’ll be pleased to know that the franchise is returning to its roots after over a decade.
As per the insider, the next game will feature a younger Kratos. The insider also cleared the earlier rumors regarding the Egyptian setting, which he stated were inaccurate.
Moreover, during the Insider Gaming podcast, Tom Henderson stated that the next game is about Kratos’ relationship with his father.
Apparently, the storyline’s more to do like his relationship with his father.

It’s unclear if that refers to Zeus or a father figure from Kratos’ Spartan days. Zeus’ story ended with the original trilogy, and it’s exciting to see what part of Kratos’ life the franchise decides to unveil next.

The improved visuals make the game more immersive for new and returning players.
Multiplayer and combat mechanics are now far smoother, making the game more engaging
Although some issues, such as a steep learning curve and repetitive missions, are still part of the game.
The remaster of Freedom Wars available on Steam, has rekindled my appreciation for this unique action RPG game. Originally released on the PS Vita, it offers a mix of dystopian storytelling, multiplayer, and fast-paced combat.
Freedom Wars Remastered enhances these qualities while introducing a modern polish to the game, making it easily accessible on all kinds of devices and software. Here’s what stood out for me in the remastered version.
A World Built on Oppression
The story of Freedom Wars remains one of its most substantial aspects. The game is set in a dystopian future where society is controlled by city-states called Panopticons. People in the game known as “Sinners” are sentenced to massive prison sentences for simply existing and must pay off their debt by undertaking dangerous missions.
Freedom Wars Battle – Image Credits [Steam]The game’s morally complex and harsh setting feels more immersive than ever now, with the visual upgrades from the remaster. The sharper graphics and enhanced visuals bring the game’s environment and the struggles of the characters to life.
Gameplay That Excels
The gameplay of Freedom Wars has always stood out for me, and the remastered version enhances it even further. Players engage in fast-paced strategic battles with massive enemies called Abductors. The overall gameplay resembles that of Fortnite but with monsters.
Battle Against Abductor – Image Credits [Pinterest]Players can use a range of melee weapons, firearms, and the classic Thorn (a grappling hook), which adds versatility and tactical depth. In the remastered version, the controls are smoother, making combat feel more fluid and responsive.
The co-op multiplayer mode, which bears a resemblance to Monster Hunter in terms of large-scale battles against formidable creatures, with weapon crafting is now more seamless, ensuring a good experience when playing with friends.
Stunning Visual and Audio Upgrades
One of the most notable improvements in the remastered version is its upgraded visuals and effects. The high-resolution textures, dynamic lighting, and better animations make the game’s futuristic setting more vibrant and detailed.
The environments, from urban landscapes to desolate battlefields, feel more alive and visually striking. The audio design has also improved with enhanced sound effects and a powerful soundtrack that heightens tensions and excitement in battles.
Challenges That Persist
While the game has improved significantly, and the remastered version does an excellent job of modernizing it, some issues of the original still persist. The game’s learning curve is steep, especially for new players, and some may find the gameplay mechanics overwhelming at first.
Multiplayer Battle Freedom Wars – Image Credits [Steam]Additionally, some missions can feel repetitive, affecting the game’s overall long-term replayability. Lastly, the lack of new content in the remastered version may disappoint returning players who came for fresh missions and storylines.
Why It Stands Out
What sets Freedom Wars Remastered apart is its unique blend of storytelling and gameplay. The game offers thrilling action and introduces players to themes of oppression, freedom, and sacrifice, similar to those of Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
The harsh rules of the Panopticon and the struggles of the Sinners make the game profoundly emotional and more than just an action game.
Freedom Wars Remastered successfully brings a classic title to modern platforms, improving its visuals, gameplay, and overall accessibility. Despite some lingering flaws, the game remains an excellent experience that every action RPG fan should try.
Whether you are revisiting the game or are a new player, the remastered version of Freedom Wars ensures that players have the best experience.

Gamers never appreciate interruptions when playing through their favorite titles.
Picking the right environment, keeping backup power sources, and using appropriate accessories can ensure interruptions are minimized.
One must plan for emergencies in order to stay up and running.
However, ensuring uninterrupted sessions requires optimizing your setup, managing resources, and preparing for potential hiccups. By planning ahead, gamers can focus on ensuring they get at least a few hours of uninterrupted gaming bliss in their favorite worlds.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Is Best Enjoyed When Playing For Several Hours At A Time
A stable and reliable power source is essential for uninterrupted sessions. Sudden power outages or low battery warnings can be frustrating and ruin an otherwise perfect session. To ensure your devices stay powered, consider investing in a portable power station
A portable power station can keep your gaming setup running during unexpected power interruptions. These devices are particularly useful for gamers who stream, as they provide a backup power source for not just consoles and PCs but also routers and cameras.
Some models even allow charging via solar panels, adding an eco-friendly element to your gaming adventures.
Optimizing Your Internet
Lag or disconnections during online gaming can be as infuriating as a power outage. To avoid this happening, make sure you have an internet connection optimized for speed and stability.
You probably want to use a wired ethernet connection whenever possible since it is typically faster and more reliable than Wi-Fi. Also, an ethernet connection is recommended for competitive genres like fighting games and first-person shooters.
If you must rely on Wi-Fi, position your router in a central location and consider investing in a mesh network system to extend coverage. Additionally, prioritize your gaming device’s internet traffic using your router’s Quality of Service (QoS) settings. This can help reduce latency by ensuring other devices don’t hog bandwidth.
Prioritizing Comfort And Health
The Right Chair Can Make A Huge Difference
Long gaming sessions can take a toll on your body if you’re not mindful of your comfort and health. Invest in an ergonomic gaming chair that provides proper back and neck support. This can help reduce fatigue and discomfort during extended play.
Taking regular breaks is also recommended. Make sure to let your eyes rest for at least a few minutes every now and then. Follow the 20-20-20 rule, which helps reduce eye strain. This involves looking at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds every 20 minutes.
Moreover, staying hydrated and keeping healthy snacksnearby will keep you energized
Getting Your Gear Ready For Extended Use
As you prepare for a long gaming session, you must pick the right gear. Regularly clean and maintain your equipment to prevent performance issues. For example, ensure your console or PC is free of dust and has adequate ventilation to prevent overheating.
While wireless controllers and headsets are convenient, their batteries can die at inconvenient moments. Therefore, keeping charging cables and spare batteries within reach is also recommended.
For PCs, consider an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) as an additional safeguard against sudden shutdowns.
Preparing A Distraction-Free Environment
A clutter-free, quiet space is key to staying immersed in your game. Organize your setup so that everything you need is within arm’s reach. Cable management solutions like clips and ties can keep wires tidy and prevent accidental disconnections.
Elsewhere, noise-cancelling headphones can help block out background noise, especially if you share your living space with others. Let your household know when you are gaming to minimize interruptions and consider setting your phone to “Do Not Disturb” mode to keep notifications at bay.
Picking The Right Accessories
A Great Headset Can Keep You Immersed For Hours On End
Upgrading your accessories can go a long way to improving your gaming experience. A high-refresh-rate monitor and a responsive mouse or controller can improve performance in competitive games.
If you’re a console gamer, consider an external storage device to expand your library and reduce load times. For streamers, investing in quality lighting and a reliable webcam is very important.
Many gaming chairs also come with built-in features like lumbar support or adjustable armreststo enhance comfort during long streams or sessions.
Planning For Emergencies
Sometimes, interruptions are unavoidable, but being prepared can minimize their impact. If you’re gaming during a storm or in an area prone to power outages, save your progress frequently.
Most titles are great at autosaving progress these days, but it doesn’t hurt to take precautions. In case of connectivity issues, make sure you have offline games downloaded and ready to play. This will ensure you can continue gaming without relying on an internet connection.
Enjoying The Experience
Ultimately, gaming is more than just entertainment. It’s an experience that lets you connect with friends, explore new worlds, and challenge yourself.
By preparing your setup, managing resources, and staying mindful of your well-being, you can ensure that every session is as smooth and enjoyable as possible.
A little planning goes a long way in keeping interruptions at bay. With the right strategies and tools, you can focus on what matters most; getting back in the game and making every moment count.

Using and charging your laptop in aptly ventilated areas can do wonders for your battery health.
Lowering screen brightness, keyboard backlighting, and speaker volume are a few ways to extend your battery’s runtime.
Charging limits can help preserve your battery’s chemical composition to resist degradation.
It’s no surprise that the words ‘battery life’ and ‘gaming laptop’ don’t usually belong in the same sentence.
That being said, it’s 2025, so I’m seeing noteworthy advancements being made in the power efficiency department as far as laptops are concerned. Unfortunately, not all of us are blessed with such cutting-edge tech. However, that doesn’t mean you and I aren’t entitled to reasonable battery lives.
On that note, I have a couple of neat tricks for you that could noticeably extend your laptop battery’s performance and the best part is it costs nothing.
First And Foremost: Maintaining Ambient Temperature
Believe it or not, the first step to prolong your laptop’s battery life is to keep it as cool as possible.
Now I’m not saying you’re supposed to stick it in a freezer, but it would be wise to hold off on overnight charging because a certain amount of heat will always make it through as waste energy.
You’d also be well-advised to not pursue any taxing workloads while you’re charging your laptop because this will only generate extra heat, which you’ll be able to notice emanating from the underside of your laptop as well as from your charging port and charging brick. It might be better to try and not use your laptop altogether until it’s desirably charged.
Why am I emphasizing so much on minimal heat generation?
A Laptop’s Removable Battery (Image By Tech4Gamers)
Well, modern batteries comprise a Lithium-Ion compound upon which heat will usually have adverse effects, both in the short-term, but especially in the long run.
If your laptop has a removable battery, it’s recommended to remove it before using your laptop on charge as any heat generated won’t affect your battery’s chemical composition.
Also, if your laptop has a fast charging facility, try turning it off as rapid charging utilities are typically unhealthy for your battery’s longevity.
Don’t Fully Charge Your Battery
While you’ll certainly get the highest runtime figures if you charge your battery fully, this method will decimate your battery’s chemical health by exacerbating the stress it goes through on each charge cycle.
For the sake of keeping this brief, let’s just say that the optimal charging range is between 20% to 80%.
Of course, you can still calibrate your battery once a month by giving it one complete charge/discharge cycle, but don’t make a habit of doing it on the daily.
Setting Up Automatic Battery Charging Thresholds
If you’re like me and you find it tiresome to constantly monitor your battery’s charge, you can set up an automated threshold to prevent overcharging beyond your desired battery level.
Usually, laptop manufacturers will have a proprietary app through which you can set a battery charging threshold of your liking. If not, you might have to delve into your BIOS settings to manually administer such a threshold.
On the contrary, a few brands like Apple use artificial intelligence to learn your usage behaviour, so if you own a MacBook, it’ll automatically prevent charging past 80% but power through to 100% just before you start your next day.
However, if you’re finding that machine learning isn’t able to correctly predict your usage pattern, you can use an open-source third-party app to set a charging limit.
For reference, even Microsoft urges users to not routinely charge their laptops’ batteries to 100%.
Using The Right Accessories
Beware of using counterfeit chargers and fake cables.
These cheap purchases might save you money in the short run but they’ll end up detrimentally affecting your battery’s lifespan and might even pose hazardous threats to both your laptop and the battery itself, such as potential short-circuits and chemical fires.
Always use chargers that are either original or certified by the manufacturer (in case of third-party chargers).
In contrast, it’s not a bad idea to use supplemental aftermarket accessories like laptop fans/cooling pads to actively eradicate the heatwaves impacting your laptop’s battery.
These cooling pads will even augment your laptop’s overall systematic performance thanks to lesser thermal throttling.
All in all, eking the maximum efficiency out of your battery life usually revolves around minimising ambient heat while preserving your battery’s chemical composition.
