Ubisoft To Reportedly Pursue More Assassin’s Creed Remakes If Black Flag Resynced Succeeds

Story Highlight
  • A report states that Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced will skip the original game’s multiplayer and DLC.
  • Ubisoft will also begin production of more remakes based on how well this title performs.
  • It is said that at least one more Assassin’s Creed remake besides Black Flag is already being worked on.

Ubisoft has officially announced Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, revealing an April 23 reveal date. Following this announcement, various clips of the remake have also leaked online, and a new report has provided further clarity regarding the status of multiplayer and additional content originally released for Assassin’s Creed 4.

The same report also delves into Ubisoft’s plans for future remakes, specifically regarding the Assassin’s Creed franchise.

Why it matters: Remakes have become commonplace in the modern games industry, and Ubisoft hopes to capitalize on this trend.

Assassin’s Creed 4 Black Flag Resynced Is Launching Very Soon

According to Insider Gaming’s report, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced skips both the multiplayer component of the original game and the Freedom Cry DLC. This is being done to allow maximum focus on the base game content, which, Ubisoft is said to be expanding with a few extra additions.

Later in the report, the outlet states that Ubisoft plans to use Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced to gauge the potential for future remakes. Effectively, the success of this title will determine whether the publisher releases more remakes in the future.

The report also states that at least one other remake is in the works at Ubisoft currently. Although not confirmed, it was previously speculated that the French gaming giant was remaking the original Assassin’s Creed.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage’s Classic Filter Shows What A Potential Remake of The First Game Could Look Like

Because this pirate-themed Assassin’s Creed is incredibly popular, Ubisoft could see the franchise return to its former glory once the remake arrives. If all goes well, fans can look forward to remakes of similarly-renowned classics like Assassin’s Creed 2.

“There Is No Limitation Anymore” Larian Dev Teases Divinity’s Large Scale With An Upgraded Engine

Story Highlight
  • Larian’s technical director has stated that there will be no limitation to how big an act can be in Divinity.
  • Due to upgrades to the in-house engine, restrictions that affected Baldur’s Gate 3 have been removed.
  • The studio previously stated that the upcoming RPG will be its biggest game yet.

Ever since the success of Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian Studios has become a sensation in the gaming world. The 2023 title has now sold over 20 million copies worldwide and is still averaging a respectable concurrent player count on Steam 3 years after launching.

The game was so culturally important that CD Projekt Red is taking direct inspiration from it for The Witcher 4. Hence, it isn’t surprising that fans are hyped for Larian’s next game, Divinity. If a developer from the studio is to be believed, the upcoming title will be even bigger than Baldur’s Gate 3.

Why it matters: Considering how innovative and engaging Baldur’s Gate 3 was, Larian developing Divinity with a better engine that lets the studio do whatever it wants is enough to sell the RPG to most people.

Divinity
Divinity is already being promoted as Larian’s biggest game.

While talking to Edge Magazine, Larian’s technical director Bert Van Semmertier stated that there will be no limitation on how big an act could be in Divinity.

A longstanding limitation we had in multiplayer is that players could not cross acts individually, and this had an impact on how we built our world. In the next iteration of our engine, this is a limitation we have completely removed. There is no limitation anymore on how big an act can be.

The developer explained that the studio’s in-house engine has been upgraded for the upcoming RPG, and the restriction that didn’t allow players to cross acts individually in multiplayer has been removed.

According to Van Semmertier, the game world and story in Baldur’s Gate 3 were impacted by this multiplayer restriction as developers needed to structure the narrative in a certain way. However, now that Larian isn’t handcuffed by this aspect of the engine while developing Divinity, the RPG can be even bigger.

Baldur's Gate 3
Baldur’s Gate 3 was limited by this multiplayer feature.

The studio has previously stated that the upcoming title will be its biggest game yet, and this upgraded version of the Divinity engine is the key to achieving this result.

Do you think Divinity will be a better RPG than Baldur’s Gate 3, or will Larian not be able to top the 2023 title? Tell us in the comments below or head to the Tech4Gamers forum for discussion.

For The First Time In Three Years, Starfield Was The Best-Selling Game In The US Thanks To PS5

Story Highlight
  • Starfield was the best-selling title in the US during its PS5 launch week.
  • The console accounted for 95% of the RPGs’ sales during this time period.
  • This is also the first time the RPG has topped the charts since its initial launch in September 2023.

Starfield started in a promising manner on the PS5, flying to the top of the pre-order charts ahead of console-exclusive Saros. However, the title was hit with a flurry of technical issues after launching. The space RPG was crashing so frequently that players started refunding the game.

Unsurprisingly, Starfield suffered due to the buggy nature of the port, not even debuting in the top 10 of the PlayStation Store downloads chart. However, the Bethesda game still sold reasonably well, as according to an analyst, it was the best-selling title in the US during its PS5 launch week.

Why it matters: Starfield could have caught a second wind if Microsoft had paid attention to optimising the PS5 port, as the demand was clearly there.

Starfield
Source: Blue Sky

As per Mat Piscatella, Starfield was the highest-selling video game in the United States for the week ending April 11th, 2026. After accounting for both digital and physical sales, the space RPG topped the Circana Retail charts with respect to overall Dollar revenue.

This is the first time in almost three years that Starfield has been the best-selling game in the country. The last time Bethesda’s title topped the charts was in the first week of September 2023, when the game initially launched.

Furthermore, this is the RPG’s fourth biggest sales week in the country since release, with only its first three weeks on the market beating out the sales performance on PS5. According to Piscatella, the PS5 also accounted for 95% of Starfield’s Dollar sales during the week.

Starfield
The RPG suffered from game-breaking bugs on the console.

Considering how initial estimates revealed that the title only sold about 140k units on the console, this result is a little surprising. However, even with its game-breaking issues, it seems like Starfield has produced a respectable output on the PS5 despite launching 3 years after its initial release.

Do you think Starfield has been successful on the PS5 or has the terrible port hurt its sales? Tell us in the comments below or head to the Tech4Gamers forum for discussion.

Xbox Executive Shuts Down Project Helix Third-Party Rumors

Story Highlight
  • Xbox vice president of next generation Jason Ronald debunks Project Helix third-party rumors.
  • He says that the next-gen console will be available as a first-party device.
  • Therefore, we may not see any third-party variants by ASUS, MSI, or others.

Wild rumors have suggested that Microsoft would not produce next-gen Xbox consoles by itself, as interest in the Xbox brand reportedly wanes. In other words, only other PC makers like ASUS and MSI could reportedly produce their own variants of Project Helix.

However, that might not entirely be the case, at least not in the way rumors suggested. The Xbox vice president of next generation, Jason Ronald, now debunks these claims and says that Project Helix will be available as a first-party console.

Why it matters: The anticipated next-gen Xbox console will be produced in-house, which is great news for fans of the brand who wanted an authentic experience. However, the confirmation also does not rule out third-party options.

Jason debunked the claims in response to a tweet discussing the most recent rumors by the credible insider, KeplerL2, who said you’d be able to purchase third-party consoles with Helix chips from vendors like ASUS and MSI after the console officially launches.

Some ignored the context and took Kepler’s words as confirmation that Xbox won’t be selling any Project Helix consoles in-house. However, reading between the lines suggests Kepler discussed custom third-party options that would come later down the road.

Nevertheless, the Xbox executive also never denies that there will be any third-party devices in the future, so this vague response has left many gamers hopeful in the community.

xbox project helix
Project Helix is reportedly built on the RDNA 5 architecture.

Regardless, other Project Helix rumors have suggested that it won’t use any custom GPU or APU, essentially being more of a PC than anyone imagined. However, it will reportedly still use the FSR Diamond lineup on upscalers, frame generation, and ML models.

The console is expected to cost over $1000 and is reportedly aiming for a holiday 2027 launch window alongside the PS6. Alpha developer kits are expected to reach developers by early next year.

Do you think Xbox’s Project Helix will have third-party variants later down the road, or is that rumor mill effectively wrong? Would you prefer third-party versions? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Leaked Clip Shows Stark Difference Between Original And Remake

Story Highlight
  • A leaked clip from the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has given fans the first look at the remake.
  • The graphical upgrade is stark, with characters and in-game assets appearing more detailed and brighter.
  • Furthermore, the short clip also includes a cutscene not seen in the original title.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is arguably the worst-kept secret in gaming history. The remake has been in the rumor mill since 2023, and Ubisoft was finally forced to confirm its existence this March.

Reports previously suggested that Black Flag Resynced could be delayed by a year, but the publisher is going to officially reveal the title in the next few days, with a tentative launch set for this summer. Now, a clip from this reveal trailer has leaked online, and shows the remake’s graphical upheaval compared to the 2013 original.

Why it matters: The Black Flag remake is a fan service master stroke by Ubisoft and exhibits how easy it is to make successful titles by just giving the players what they want.

An 11-second clip from the Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced trailer has leaked online and showcases the graphical leap the remake is taking. As visible in the video above, Ubisoft has added extra detail and more context to scenes in this remake, in addition to upgrading the graphics.

For example, the zoomed-in shot of the ship was not present in the original Assassin’s Creed Black Flag cutscene. Hence, Resynced is not going to be just a remaster, but a complete remake with more layers and an open world akin to the one seen in Assassin’s Creed: Shadows.

Furthermore, the graphical upheaval in contrast to the 2013 edition is huge. As the image below showcases, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced will be less saturated and more photo-realistic compared to the original. The character models and in-game assets have added detail, wearing elaborate clothing with supplementary pieces.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag original vs remake
The graphical difference between the 2013 original vs Resynced.

The Assassin’s Creed Black Flag remake is set to release this July, and private showings of the game have already impressed fans, and we can see why.

Do you think the remake will be a success for Ubisoft? Should the company remake other older titles? Tell us in the comments below or head to the Tech4Gamers forum for discussion.

Project Helix Will Be Xbox’s First Console With 0 GPU Customization, Insider Reveals

Story Highlight
  • The next Xbox console will apparently have no GPU or APU customization at all.
  • It will possibly feature standard RDNA 5 graphics and Zen 6/6c CPU cores.
  • The console will still run the FSR Diamond family of upscaling and frame generation transformer models.

Credible analysts and rumors in the past have already suggested that Xbox’s next-gen console will be more of a PC than a console in terms of experience. However, new information affirms that the brand is completely moving away from the unique feel of consoles.

Project Helix will apparently feature no custom GPU or APU, essentially moving away from the unique console silicon that made the past consoles stand out. This shift is the complete opposite strategy to what Sony is planning for PlayStation 6.

Why it matters: Xbox moving away from custom console hardware in the next generation marks the end of an era for the giant. The console will truly feel like a PC experience wrapped in the brand’s coating; it won’t be comparable to the PS6 in any way.

Reliable insider Kepler says Project Helix will have no custom GPU.

This rumor comes from insider KeplerL2 on NeoGAF, who clarifies that Microsoft is vying for 0 APU customizations this time around.

The console will likely use standard AMD RDNA 5 graphics and Zen 6/6c CPU cores, something akin to the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme and Ryzen Z2 used by the latest high-end gaming handhelds.

In other words, this would make it feel like a traditional PC with Xbox’s paint coating. However, Kepler does mention that the lack of GPU customization will still allow Project Helix to utilize AMD FSR 5.

Therefore, features like FSR Diamond frame generation, upscalers, and transformation models built for RDNA 5 will be usable, as the technology is essentially cross-platform.

Xbox Helix
Project Helix is shaping up to be a vastly different Xbox experience.

Regardless, Microsoft appears to have no plans to move on from consoles after Project Helix, so we may see a more traditional console after the upcoming generation. It is expected to cost in the $1000 price range

In other news, Project Helix’s alpha development kits will reportedly reach developers by early 2027, and rumors also suggest both Microsoft and Sony aim to launch their consoles in the holiday period next year.

Do you think the next-gen Project Helix will stand out despite having no custom silicone advantages? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Ubisoft’s ‘AAAA’ Skull and Bones Crushed by New Pirate Indie Title With 83x More Steam Players

Story Highlight
  • Windrose, a new pirate indie on Steam, is winning gamers. It already boasts an all-time peak of 222k.
  • The game has drawn bitter comparisons to Skull and Bones.
  • Windrose had a significantly smaller team and budget, yet it embodies the pirate experience gamers wanted.

We already know that Ubisoft’s ‘AAAA’ Skull and Bones failed to hold a steady momentum. The $70 title had dropped to just $10 in just half a year. It also launched on several platforms to attract as many players as possible, but that still couldn’t stop the fallout.

New indie Windrose appears to have had the exact opposite launch on PC despite falling into the same genre. The pirate experience has already gained over 220k all-time high peak Steam players, and the number continues to grow since its launch.

Why it matters: Many gamers have argued that Windrose is exactly what Skull and Bones should have been, yet the former was developed by barely over a dozen developers and a fraction of the $850 million+ budget of the latter.

SteamDB’s climbing graph shows that Windrose’s early access launch is a staggering success, with tens of thousands of players at any given time. In comparison, Skull and Bones barely saw over 2k players on Steam.

Ubisoft’s venture was also abandoned by over 90% of gamers on Xbox three months after launch. The results were shockingly similar on PlayStation in the same time period, especially after Sea of Thieves became available there. Windrose is only available on PC.

Windrose has already sold over a million copies within days after launch on a single platform. Meanwhile, Skull and Bones reportedly failed to hit that milestone during its launch days, even after including the free-trial players.

Kraken Express’ indie has a ‘Very Positive’ rating on Steam, 89% at the time of writing. The reviews shared above also speak for themselves. Skull and Bones has a mixed score in contrast.

Therefore, it’s no surprise that many players have already accepted Windrose as the superior piracy experience over Skull and Bones.

Do you think Windrose scratches the itch that Skull and Bones failed to do? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Ubisoft’s Splinter Cell Remake Reportedly Delayed to 2027

Story Highlight
  • Ubisoft has been struggling for quite a while now with layoffs, delays, and cancellations.
  • The studio has also reportedly delayed the upcoming Splinter Cell Remake to 2027.
  • Far Cry 7, codenamed Blackbird, is allegedly going through development hell.

Ubisoft hasn’t had too much of a great time in recent years. Once massive game giants, their reputation has been slowly crumbling along with their stocks. Further not helping its cause are the repeated layoffs, game delays, and cancellations.

Now, according to a recent update, two of its biggest franchises are also facing a difficult time. Splinter Cell Remake, which was slated for a 2026 has now been delayed to 2027, and Far Cry 7 is going through development hell.

Why it matters: Even Splinter Cell’s development has been filled with hurdles. First, the title’s director left the studio, and shortly after that, it was hit with layoffs. There were also rumors of it being completely canceled.

In the latest episode of Insider Gaming Podcast, Tom Henderson and Mike Straw claimed that Splinter Cell Remake has now been delayed to 2027. It was among the batch of titles that were affected due to the layoffs earlier this year.

It seems that Ubisoft’s increased focus on Assassin’s Creed has diverted attention from its other major franchises. The studio, of course, is getting ready to launch Black Flag Resynced and also has Hexe in development.

Splinter Cell Remake Ubisoft
The remake is now expected to be released in 2027

Unfortunately, it’s no rainbows and sunshine for Far Cry 7 either, as it is still allegedly going through development hell. The project codenamed Blackbird is yet to be officially confirmed, but things aren’t promising.

What are your thoughts on Splinter Cell Remake being delayed to 2027 from the previously claimed 2026 release? Let us know your opinions in the comments or join the discussion at the official Tech4Gamers Forum.

Ubisoft Now Seeking Gen AI Experience In Almost Every Job Posting In New Hiring Wave

Story Highlight
  • AI integration is growing in the games industry, and Ubisoft is interested in adopting the technology.
  • A new job ad from the studio shows that it now asks for experience with generative AI agents like ChatGPT and Claude when hiring new developers.
  • These requirements show in multiple job listings, suggesting a company-wide focus on generative AI agents.

AI integration is rapidly becoming a part of modern game development. Recently, games like Crimson Desert were found to include leftover AI-generated art from early stages of development, and this appears to be just the beginning of the AI revolution in the games industry.

Like other AAA giants, Ubisoft is backing the use of artificial intelligence to streamline game development. In fact, the Tech4Gamers team has spotted a Ubisoft job listing for a Technical Art Director, indicating that the studio is now seeking experience with generative AI models like ChatGPT when hiring developers.

Why it matters: Despite AI’s many benefits to game development, many still feel it should not be used to dilute the creative process of making games.

Ubisoft Annecy is currently hiring for an unannounced AAA project. According to the qualifications section of this listing, this project is a multiplayer title built on Unreal Engine 5.

Because previous rumors already pointed to Ubisoft working on a new live-service multiplayer shooter, there is reason to believe that the team is looking to hire a developer for the same project as part of its live-service ambitions.

Anyhow, later in the qualifications section, Ubisoft explicitly mentions generative AI models like Claude, ChatGPT, and Copilot. According to the job listing, the developer in question must be comfortable using these models for various tasks.

Comfortable working with generative AI models (such as Claude, Copilot, ChatGPT, etc.)

Based on this job ad, it’s hard to say exactly how Ubisoft plans to use tools like ChatGPT in game development.

However, because the team is specifically looking to hire a Technical Art Director, the AI use could involve generating concept art that is later replaced with hand-crafted assets, as was the case with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Crimson Desert.

Elsewhere, another job listing for a Prompt Specialist highlights similar requirements, citing a good understanding of GPT-4, Gemini, Claude, etc. All in all, it seems knowledge of various AI models has become quite important to the French gaming giant lately.

You have a good understanding of several language models (GPT-4, Gemini, Claude, Qwne, SentenceBERT, Llama) as well as their main differences

Ubisoft Prompt Specialist
Ubisoft Prompt Specialists Need To Be Show Strong Experience With ChatGPT and Others

Of course, given Ubisoft’s past initiatives, this doesn’t come as the biggest surprise. Previously, the French gaming giant showcased AI-enhanced NPCs in a playable research project dubbed Teammates as part of its artificial intelligence push.

What do you make of this job ad? Do you think ChatGPT and other generative AI agents will become common across game development moving forward? Share in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Fallout New Vegas Can’t Be Remastered As Bethesda Doesn’t Have Enough Engineering Skill, Says Designer

Story Highlight
  • A Fallout New Vegas remaster is difficult, as Bethesda doesn’t have the engineering know-how to make it.
  • The game’s source code is only present in parts at the company, and it doesn’t know how to assemble it.
  • As per Chris Avellone, there are workarounds to this, but they will be similar to Oblivion Remastered.

Despite being one of the most iconic RPG franchises in gaming, there hasn’t been a mainline Fallout title in over a decade. Bethesda has assured fans that more games in the series are in the pipeline, with the next mainline entry set to be the studio’s most ambitious.

At Present, however, remasters of Fallout 3 and New Vegas are the only projects in development, according to the rumor mill. But, as per the senior designer on New Vegas, Bethesda cannot remaster the game because they don’t have the capability to do so.

Why it matters: A Fallout New Vegas remaster without the source code could turn out to be a technical mess just like the Oblivion remaster last year.

In an interview with TKs-Mantis, designer Chris Avellone said that fans shouldn’t expect a remaster of Fallout New Vegas as Bethesda doesn’t possess the engineering know-how to pull it off.

I don’t think Bethesda has the engineering knowhow to make a remaster of New Vegas at all

Avellone explained his stance, revealing that the company offered New Vegas developer Obsidian a $10,000 check for the game’s source code. However, the studio’s CEO, Feargus Urquhart, decided to waive the offer and declined to give the source code to Bethesda.

The former New Vegas developer said he doesn’t know the reason behind this decision, but Bethesda could have remade the game anytime with the source code. Furthermore, Avellone stated that Bethesda does have parts of the code and isn’t empty-handed; the publisher just doesn’t know how to assemble it.

Fallout Remakes
According to reports, both Fallout 3 and New Vegas are set to get remasters.

Of course, there are solutions to this problem, with the Fallout New Vegas designer suggesting that Bethesda could utilise Unreal Engine in the same way it did with the Oblivion Remaster. Furthermore, considering how both studios are now owned by Microsoft, assembling the source code might not be that big of an issue.

Do you think Fallout New Vegas needs a remaster or should Bethesda focus on a new mainline entry instead? Tell us in the comments below or head to the Tech4Gamers forum for discussion.

Metro 2039 More Than Just A Game, Dark Story Mirrors Reality of Wars And Misery

Story Highlight
  • The series author calls Metro 2039 an experience that goes beyond games.
  • He emphasizes how the game reflects the brutality of real-world warfare and its consequences.
  • 4A Games’ latest Metro entry is scheduled to launch in 2026, and more details should come soon.

4A Games has recently announced Metro 2039, the latest story entry in the popular franchise based on gripping tales of war and various supernatural calamities.

The latest entry is described as the darkest in the franchise to date, borrowing from real-world conflicts for a narrative that completely immerses fans of first-person shooters. In fact, the franchise writer even went as far as saying that Metro 2039 is not just a game.

Why it matters: Metro Exodus raised the bar for the series and sold over 10 million units. Following this success, fans have never been more excited for 4A Games’ works.

Metro 2039
Metro Author On The Upcoming Game | Image via Twitter

Dmitry Glukshovsky recently took to Twitter and described the series’ upcoming game as an “experience” after calling it more than a game. For context, Dmitry Glukhovsky originally wrote the Metro novels and returned as a writer for 4A Games’ latest project.

This tweet was likely made as a follow-up to an earlier tweet where Dmitry Glukhovsky emphasized the need for stories to reflect real-world conflicts and lessons learned from these conflicts.

He confirmed that Metro 2039 would offer a similar experience and put these themes at the forefront of the experience. For the unaware, the Ukraine-Russia conflict played a major role in shaping the development of Metro 2039.

Following the announcement trailer, 4A Games confirmed that the title’s story was reworked due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine to reflect the consequences of war and the destruction it leaves behind.

Metro 2039 Launches Later This Year

As part of the experience described by Dmitry Glukhovsky, Metro 2039 is also raising the bar in the visual department. The game is expected to push the 4A Games engine one step further, using ray tracing and other cutting-edge technologies to their maximum.

Pragmata Crosses 1 Million Sales Just Two Days After Launch

Story Highlight
  • Pragmata has sold more than one million copies worldwide in two days.
  • The action-adventure game has received extremely positive reviews for its innovative gameplay and narrative.
  • Capcom’s marketing for the new IP is also a key reason behind this sales performance.

Capcom has been on a remarkable run recently, with its last 5 games crossing the 80 threshold on Metacritic. The Japanese gaming giant has already found record-breaking success with Resident Evil Requiem this year, and its newest launch, Pragmata, is continuing this hot streak.

The action title from Capcom has garnered an extremely positive response from fans and critics alike, who praised the creative gameplay and the emotional narrative. Now, sales numbers for the title have come out, and Pragmata is not doing too badly on the commercial front either.

Why it matters: An innovative and risky venture like Pragmata finding success at this scale is a positive sign for the industry, as it shows that fresh IPs can find an audience with good marketing if they bring something new to the table.

Pragmata Capcom

Capcom just announced that Pragmata has surpassed one million copies sold worldwide, only 2 days after launching. The sci-fi action game has achieved this landmark despite being a completely new IP and not being available on the Nintendo Switch 2 in Japan.

In the press release, Capcom highlighted its marketing strategy as one of the key reasons behind Pragmata’s success, with the early demo helping fans experience the innovative gameplay and get a better understanding of the new IP.

Considering how Pragmata was wishlisted over 1 million times by players following the demo, Capcom deserves plaudits for helping the title connect with fans through smart marketing.

Capcom Pragmata
The positive buzz around the science fiction action title has hiked Capcom’s stock price by a massive 10%.

Furthermore, Pragmata has already become one of the highest-rated games on Steam in Capcom’s history, garnering an overwhelmingly positive review score of 97%. The science fiction title has also helped increase the Japanese publisher’s stock by a whopping 10%, thanks to all the positive buzz around it.
