With a TDP of 355W, AMD recommends at least an 800W PSU to go along with the RX 7900 XTX. Therefore, if your old PSU is below said wattage, then you should definitely consider upgrading just to be on the safe side. In this guide, I will walk you through several best power supplies for the RX 7900 XTX.

Best PSU for RX 7900 XTX

Following are the best PSU for RX 7900 XTX:

  1. Seasonic Vertex GX-1000
  2. Corsair RM850e
  3. EVGA Supernova 850 P6
  4. Phanteks Revolt SFX 850W
  5. MSI A1000G PCIE5

Seasonic Vertex GX-1000

Best ATX 3.0 PSU For RX 7900 XTX

Form Factor: ATX | Wattage: 1000W | Efficiency Rating: 80 PLUS Gold | Modularity: Full Modular | ATX 3.0: Yes

Pros

  • Future-proof
  • Japanese Capacitors
  • High Capacity
  • Durable

Cons

  • Expensive

There is no better way to start off a power supply round-off than from a Seasonic PSU. The company is known for providing some of the most well-built and durable power supplies. Their PSUs last for years, and you can comfortably use them for future builds without any worries. The same goes for the Seasonic Vertex GX-1000. If you don’t plan on upgrading your PC every few years, then the Vertex GX-1000 is the best investment for you.

First off, the power supply is ATX 3.0 compatible, meaning that it has an additional 12VHPWR cable that can provide up to 600W of power. One thing about the RX 7900 XTX and the rest of the Radeon 7000-series graphics cards is that they are not ATX 3.0 compatible, unlike NVIDIA’s RTX 4000-series. However, getting an ATX 3.0 compatible PSU is really good for future-proofing.

Apart from the ATX 3.0 support, the Seasonic Vertex GX-1000 supports a maximum wattage of 1000W, which is over the recommended number of the RX 7900 XTX. Therefore, you can easily build a high-end gaming PC with the RX 7900 XTX, and the Vertex GX-100 will handle it easily. This 1000W capacity also gives you plenty of room for future upgradability, so you will not have to worry about the power requirements at all.

Okay, so the capacity is good to go with the RX 7900 XTX, but there is another factor that can make or break a power supply, and that is its efficiency. Well, the Seasonic Vertex GX-1000 has nailed the efficiency rating admirably with its 80 PLUS Gold certification. It isn’t the highest efficiency rating, but it is far from the worst. In fact, an 80+ Gold rating is pretty much the sweet spot; it also allows manufacturers not to price the power supply higher.

Looking inside the PSU, the Seasonic Vertex GX-1000 uses the well-known Japanese 105°C Aluminum Capacitors. Japan knows how to make the most reliable and durable capacitors, and that’s why their capacitors are considered the benchmark for reliability. The Seasonic Vertex GX-1000 also relies on a 135mm Fluid Dynamic Bearing (FDB) fan for cooling. An FDB fan generates less heat and noise when compared to a conventional ball-bearing fan. Furthermore, it also consumes less power while providing optimal cooling.

Keeping up with the future-proofing theme, the Seasonic gives a 10-year warranty with the Vertex GX-1000. You will have peace of mind and comfort that if something goes wrong with the PSU, you can rely on Seasonic to assist you with it. As you can expect, the Vertex GX-1000 is rigged with a plethora of safety and protection features to ensure that your RX 7900 XTX pc build stays safe even under abnormal conditions. Another good thing to point out is that the power supply is fully modular, making the installation process and cable management rather easy.

What We Liked

Seasonic VERTEX GX-1000
Seasonic VERTEX GX-1000

The Seasonic Vertex GX-1000 can handle an extreme gaming PC with the RX 7900 XTX easily. Plus, its ATX 3.0 compatibility, massive 1000W capacity, durable build quality, and 10-year warranty make it very future-proof, and that’s what I liked the most about it.

What We Disliked

The power supply comes with a heavy price tag. However, it is completely worth it because this investment will last you for years to come.

Who Is It For?

If you are looking for an ATX 3.0 PSU that can handle your future upgrades as well, then the Season Vertex GX-1000 is for you.

What Makes It The Best ATX 3.0 PSU For RX 7900 XTX?

You can get other ATX 3.0 power supplies in this budget as well. But none of them feature the reliability, durability, and support of Seasonic, and that’s what makes the Seasonic Vertex GX-1000 the Best ATX 3.0 PSU For RX 7900 XTX.

Corsair RM850e

Best Budget PSU For RX 7900 XTX

Corsair RM850e - Best budget psu for RX 7900 XTX
Corsair RM850e

Form Factor: ATX | Wattage: 850W | Efficiency Rating: 80 PLUS Gold | Modularity: Full Modular | ATX 3.0: No

Pros

  • Very Affordable
  • Enough Wattage For RX 7900 XTX
  • Modular

Cons

  • No Japanese Capacitors
  • Not As Future-Proof

If you don’t plan to spend top-dollar on your PSU but still want a reliable and good-to-go option that can easily handle your RX 7900 XTX, then the Corsair RM850e is the best choice. The RMe series from Corsair is known for providing great value for money. These power supplies don’t cost nearly as much as the top-end models. Yet, they use good quality components to last for years.

Since the RX 7900 XTX has a recommended wattage of 800W, the minimum best PSU for it should have a wattage capacity of 850W. Hence, with the Corsair RM850e, you won’t have any wattage issues at all. You can pair your RX 7900 XTX with an equally good CPU and other high-end components as well, and the PSU can support your gaming PC build easily.

The RM850e is not ATX 3.0 compliant, which is not an issue for the RX 7900 XTX as it uses the 8-pin connectors. However, the lack of a PCIe Gen 5.0 cable can hurt your future-proofing. It is not a huge disadvantage because you can use an adapter cable to power your future graphics cards. On the bright side, it is one of the main reasons why the RM850e is so budget-friendly and good to go with the RX 7900 XTX.

Another way Corsair made the RM850e so affordable is by skipping the famous Japanese 105°C Capacitors. It can be offputting if you compare the RM850e with other (expensive) power supplies. But Corsair has not entirely cheaper out on the internals. The capacitors are still quite reliable and industrial-grade, ensuring that the PSU works at its best for a long time. After all, the PSU has an MTBF of 100,000 hours, which translates to around 11.4 years.

Of course, if you run into any problems, you have a 7-year warranty. Corsair is known for providing one of the best customer support, so you shouldn’t worry about being stranded with a broken PSU.

Despite its affordable price point, the RM850e is a very efficient offering. The PSU boasts its 80 PLUS Gold Certification, which makes it at least 87% efficient at a full 100% load. As such, even if you are utilizing your RX 7900 XTX rig to the fullest, the PSU will not generate too much heat or go heavy on your bill.

To keep the PSU at optimal temperatures, Corsair has used a 120mm rifle-bearing fan with the RM850e. The fan is specifically tuned to have a low noise profile without affecting the performance. Furthermore, it comes with a Zero RPM Mode, which stops it from spinning when the PSU isn’t under heavy loads. Just like the high-end Seasonic Vertex GX-1000, the budget-friendly RM850e is also a fully modular PSU. You can have a much more neat and clean PC built with a modular PSU.

What We Liked

Corsair RM850e
Corsair RM850e

The best thing about the RM850e is its price. The PSU is very affordable when put next to some other 850W power supplies in the market. Yet, it offers decent power for the RX 7900 XTX with utmost reliability and durability.

What We Disliked

The only downside of the RM850e is it is not as future-proof as other power supplies.

Who Is It For?

If you are on a tight budget but still want a durable power supply that can easily handle your RX 7900 XTX without any risk of damage, then the Corsair RM850e is the best option out there.

What Makes It The Best Budget PSU For RX 7900 XTX?

You can easily get other power supplies in the same price range as the Corsair RM850e. But none of them offers the same feature set as the RM850e without compromising on reliability, and that’s what makes the Corsair RM850e the Best Budget PSU For RX 7900 XTX.

EVGA Supernova 850 P6

Best Overall PSU For RX 7900 XTX

EVGA Supernova 850 P6 - Best Overall PSU for RX 7900 XTX
EVGA Supernova 850 P6

Form Factor: ATX | Wattage: 850W | Efficiency Rating: 80 PLUS Platinum | Modularity: Full Modular | ATX 3.0: No

Pros

  • 80 PLUS Platinum
  • Many Protective Features
  • Low Noise Profile
  • Very Efficient

Cons

  • Short Distance Between Peripherals Connectors

When it comes to the best jack-of-all-trades power supply for RX 7900 XTX, which strikes the perfect balance between efficiency and performance and offers everything you would expect from a top-tier PSU, then there is no better option than the EVGA Supernova 850 P6. From power and efficiency to reliability and durability, the Supernova 850 P6 has got it all.

Speaking of power, the Supernova 850 P6, as its name suggests, has a maximum wattage capacity of 850W. It surpasses AMD’s recommended PSU wattage for the RX 7900 XTX and leaves just enough room to handle high-end processors and short power spikes. Unless you want to go above and beyond with your power supply, an 850W capacity is perfect for the RX 7900 XTX.

I also called the Supernova 850 P6 very efficient, and that’s because it boasts an efficiency rating of 80 PLUS Platinum. This puts the Supernova 850 P6 above the other two PSUs I have listed so far, as it is about 89% efficient at a full 100% load. Therefore, we can expect the PSU to be quieter under heavy loads.

As for the insides, EVGA has gone with 100% Japanese Capacitors to make the power supply last as long as possible. It also has an MTBF of 100,000 years, which is almost 11.4 years, so you can expect the PSU to last you for many years. If anything goes sideways, then you can rely on EVGA to assist you because the Supernova 850 P6 also comes with a massive 10-year warranty.

Since the power supply is relatively efficient, it does not generate much heat and does not require an over-the-top cooling fan. EVGA has used a 135mm Fluid Dynamic Bearing fan to cool down the power supply. It also comes with an ECO Mode to stay quieter by making the fan spin at low RPMs under medium loads.

EVGA has equipped the Supernova 850 P6 with a suite of protection features like OVP, UVP, OCP, Dual OPP, SCP, and OTP. These features ensure that in case of any power spike or abnormality, the PSU shuts down and protects the PC from any damage. You might have noticed that I have listed Dual OPP instead of just OPP. That’s because it features Over Power Protection both on firmware and hardware levels. The firmware OPP will trigger before the hardware OPP, giving you an extra layer of protection.

Coming towards the cables, the Supernova 850 P6 is fully modular, which is always a plus point. But, I noticed that its peripheral connectors have a relatively short distance of just 100mm. It is not a big deal, but it can be an inconvenience. Given its extensive feature set, the Supernova 850 P6 is relatively compact. It has the same depth (140mm) as the Corsair RM850e, and yet EVGA has packed far more features into it.

What We Liked

EVGA-Supernova-850-P6
EVGA Supernova 850 P6

Power & Efficiency: The 850W capacity with an 80 PLUS Platinum certification is really good, especially considering the pricing.

Dual OPP Feature: Having OPP both in the hardware and the firmware is very impressive.

What We Disliked

Peripheral Connectors’ Distance: I only had issues with the distance of its peripherals connectors. Apart from that, the PSU nailed all of my tests.

Who Is It For?

If you want the most perfect power supply for their RX 7900 XTX, then the EVGA Supernova 850 P6 is a no-brainer choice for you.

What Makes It The Best Overall PSU For RX 7900 XTX?

The EVGA Supernova 850 P6 is truly the Best Overall PSU For RX 7900 XTX. It has an 850W maximum wattage with an 80+ Platinum rating; it features a plethora of protection features, a 10-year warranty, durable components, and overall quiet operations.

Phanteks Revolt SFX 850W

Best Compact PSU For RX 7900 XTX

Phanteks Revolt SFX 850W - Best Compact PSU for RX 7900 XTX
Phanteks Revolt SFX 850W

Form Factor: SFX | Wattage: 850W | Efficiency Rating: 80 PLUS Platinum | Modularity: Full Modular | ATX 3.0: Yes

Pros

  • 80 PLUS Platinum
  • Compact
  • ATX 3.0
  • Very Efficient

Cons

  • Slightly Expensive

The next PSU to make it to my list is the Phanteks Revolt SFX 850W, and it is the best PSU for RX 7900 XTX if you are building a compact, small form factor build. Despite its impressively smaller size, the Revolt SFX 850W nails in not only performance but also efficiency.

Just like most of the other PSUs I have reviewed for the RX 7900 XTX, the Revolt SFX 850W also supports a maximum wattage of 850W. Putting it right next to the other big-sized power supplies. The Revolt SFX 850W can easily handle your RX 7900 XTX and other high-end components to go with it.

Furthermore, the PSU is ATX 3.0 certified, so it comes with the PCIe Gen 5.0 cable that can deliver up to 600W of power. While the ATX 3.0 compatibility isn’t useful with the RX 7900 XTX, it is a huge plus because it makes the power supply more future-proof. You might want to upgrade your graphics card after a few years, and the Revolt SFX 850W will not let you down even then.

Another impressive thing about the Revolt SFX 850W is this 80 PLUS Platinum certification. It is the second Platinum PSU I have reviewed for the RX 7900 XTX, and it is truly one of the best power supplies when it comes to raw efficiency. Achieving a whopping 94% efficiency at a solid 50% load, the Revolt SFX 850W not only goes easy on your electric bill but also generates less heat, which directly impacts the PSU’s reliability over time.

Speaking of time, if you ever run into problems with this PSU, which you are highly unlikely to given its high-quality components, Phanteks has got you covered with a massive 10-year warranty. Furthermore, the overall build quality of the Revolt SFX 850W is really good, which adds to the PSU’s durability.

Heat is the enemy of all PC components, including power supplies. Since the Revolt SFX 850W is great with efficiency, it generates relatively less heat. On top of that, Phanteks has used a 92mm Fluid Dynamic Bearing (FDB) fan to cool down the PSU. If you are worried about the noise output from such a compact PSU, then worry not because it also features a Hybrid Mode. You can press the Hybrid Fan button from the PSU’s back, and the fan will stop spinning when the load is below 30%. This results in a completely silent operation which is always appreciated.

Of course, the award-winning feature of the Revolt SFX 850W is its compact form factor and how it packs so much power, efficiency, and features into such a small design. Measuring in at 310x180x115 mm (LxWxH), the Revolt SFX 850W can easily fit into any compact small form factor build. Not only that, but it also comes with custom cables that are specifically designed to fit in a compact PC chassis. With such a small design, the PSU comes with a bunch of protective features as well.

What We Liked

Phanteks Revolt SFX 850W
Phanteks Revolt SFX 850W

Power & Efficiency: I was most impressed by how Phanteks has managed to squeeze as many features and power into the Revolt SFX 850W as possible.

What We Disliked

Expensive: The only downside of the Revolt SFX 850W is its price tag. Be prepared to dent your wallet with this PSU.

Who Is It For?

Nevertheless, the Phanteks Revolt SFX 850W is the best option for you if you are building an AMD gaming PC with the RX 7900 XTX in a small form factor.

What Makes It The Best Compact PSU For RX 7900 XTX?

You can get many compact PSUs that offer 850W to support an RX 7900 XTX. But none of them have the reliability, features, and efficiency of the Phanteks Revolt SFX 850W, and that’s what makes it the Best Compact PSU For RX 7900 XTX.

MSI A1000G PCIE5 - Best Value PSU for RX 7900 XTX
MSI A1000G PCIE5

Form Factor: ATX | Wattage: 1000W | Efficiency Rating: 80 PLUS Gold | Modularity: Full Modular | ATX 3.0: Yes

Pros

  • Bang for the buck
  • 1000W capacity
  • ATX 3.0

Cons

  • Not Platinum Efficiency

Last but not least, we have the MSI A1000G PCIE5. This is the second 1000W PSU to make it to my list, and it is here for offering the most value for money. When I say value, I don’t mean budget-friendly. Oh no, the MSI A1000G costs almost $200, so it is not a cheap power supply. But, given how many features it offers, it makes up for every penny.

First off, it offers a maximum wattage capacity of 1000W, which is far more than enough for an RX 7900 XTX. With such a high-end capacity, you can comfortably get the most out of your rig without worrying about unexpected shutdowns or resets. Not only that, but the 1000W capacity ensures that the MSI A1000G will last you for your future builds as well.

Coupled with the 1000W wattage, the PSU also boasts an efficiency rating of 80 PLUS Gold certification. Therefore, the MSI A1000G offers high capacity with great efficiency at the same time. Furthermore, it is also ATX 3.0 compatible, solidifying its position as a future-proof PSU.

While these three features alone give the MSI A1000G a phenomenal value, this is not it. The power supply also uses the infamous Japanese 105°C Capacitors to offer unparalleled reliability and durability. Speaking of durability, the 10-year warranty also goes a long way because you are going to use a whopping 1000W PSU for many years.

To ensure optimal temperatures, the A1000G uses a 135mm Fluid Dynamic Bearing (FDB) fan to keep the power supply from overheating. The fan also comes with a Zero RPM Mode, which means that the fan will only begin spinning when the TDP is above 40%. While the Zero RPM Mode is a good feature that offers low noise and energy saving, you can disable it by pressing the button on the back.

MSI has rigged the A1000G with a plethora of protective features, so your RX 7900 XTX build will stay safe even under irregular power conditions. For improved airflow and neat cable management, the power supply is fully modular. You only have to use the required cables, and the rest can stay within the box.

SAPPHIRE NITRO+ Radeon RX 7900 XTX 24GB

The answer to this question is fairly simple. The minimum recommended PSU for the RX 7900 XTX is 800W. Therefore, if your old PSU has a lower wattage, then you should consider upgrading your PSU to prevent potential damage to your RX 7900 XTX.

While you can get away with a 700W or 750W PSU for an RX 7900 XTX, I would not recommend going down this route as it possesses risks. When I tested the RX 7900 XTX, its maximum power draw during gaming was somewhere between 350W to 360W. But its 20ms power spikes were crossing 450W. Therefore, it is highly recommended that you go for at least an 850W PSU with plenty of protective features to comfortably run your RX 7900 XTX.

No, the RX 7900 XTX is not ATX 3.0 compatible. Therefore, you can power up the graphics card using the traditional 8-pin connectors. So, why did we recommend ATX 3.0 PSUs when the RX 7900 XTX does not benefit from them? The answer is future-proofing.

You are unlikely to switch power supplies every time you upgrade your graphics card. That’s why it is good to invest once and have a PSU that can last you for years. Furthermore, it is highly likely that AMD will be joining the ATX 3.0 team with its next iteration of graphics cards, which means the next time you upgrade your GPU, you will definitely need an ATX 3.0 PSU.

You can get away with using adapter cables to power up your ATX 3.0 graphics card from an ATX 2.0 PSU. But, as we all learned from NVIDIA’s experience, the risks involved in using adapter cables are quite high, and it is always best to be better safe than sorry.

How We Picked The Best PSU For RX 7900 XTX

To bring together the best PSU for RX 7900 XTX, I tested a bunch of top-tier power supplies and evaluated them over a series of factors. Whenever you’re in the market for power supplies, it is highly recommended that you always consider these factors as they will help you make the right choice.

Wattage

First and foremost, you should always consider the wattage. For the RX 7900 XTX, you need at least an 800W PSU to comfortably run the PC. Therefore, I kept the wattage in mind during my tests for the best PSU for RX 7900 XTX. Every power supply I have recommended packs enough power to easily handle a high-end RX 7900 XTX gaming PC. You should also keep in mind the wattage requirements of your PC and look for only those PSUs that can handle said requirements.

Efficiency

If a power supply isn’t efficient, it will generate unnecessary heat, which will not only increase the overall noise profile but will also hurt its durability and reliability. Furthermore, the loss of energy due to inefficiency will negatively affect your electric bill as well. That’s why it is very important to go for an efficient PSU. The 80 PLUS certification is the industry standard for measuring a PSU’s efficiency. It also tells how efficient a unit is at different loads. For the best PSU for RX 7900 XTX, I went with at least an 80 PLUS Gold certification, with a couple being Platinum.

Reliability & Durability

A power supply should be equipped with high-quality internals to ensure safe and smooth operations for years to come. For instance, a reliable and durable PSU will always have 100% Japanese 105°C Capacitors. Furthermore, its fan’s quality and bearing should also be high-end because the fan can break down earlier than the actual PSU. You should also evaluate a PSU based on its warranty and the manufacturer’s reputation in terms of customer service. A 7-year PSU warranty is good, while a 10-year warranty is the best.

Modularity

If a PSU is fully modular, all of its cables can be detached. This way, you only need to use and plug in the cables, and the extra connectors can live in the box. A fully modular PSU not only eases up the cable management, which ultimately makes your build look cleaner, but it also improves the airflow because there isn’t a bunch of messy cables hanging out in your rig.

ATX 3.0 Compatibility

While the RX 7900 XTX is not ATX 3.0 compatible, it is always good to have an ATX 3.0 compatible PSU for future-proofing. The next generation of AMD graphics cards, just like the current gen NVIDIA GPUs, will likely use the PCIe 5 cable. Therefore, the next time you upgrade your GPU, there is a high chance you will need an ATX 3.0 compatible PSU. Therefore, I included a few ATX 3.0 power supplies in my list as well.
