Aloy Was Deliberately Made ‘Ugly’ In Horizon Forbidden West, Its Claimed

Story Highlight
  • Horizon Zero Dawn was pretty successful on both PS5 and PC platforms.
  • While its sequel was successful, it also received a lot of hate due to the change in Aloy’s appearance.
  • It seems the developers deliberately made the character look less pretty in the sequel.

Horizon series is one of the most good-looking series out there, with the latest game standing right next to the likes of Red Dead Redemption. While the series has been pretty much successful there was a major concern from the fandom.

The concern was regarding Aloy’s looks, as many fans said that she looked ugly in Horizon Forbidden West. Many fans even left negative reviews just because of this reason. Now, as per a new rumour, it has come to light that the developer deliberately made Aloy look ugly in Hoirzon Forbidden West

Why it matters: The attractiveness of a main character in a game makes a big difference. Fans always prefer pretty main characters over ugly ones.

Aloy Ugly
It Seems Like Aloy Was Made Ugly On Purpose By The Developer

Mangalawyer on Twitter is the one who started this rumour. This account has a solid reputation and has been providing fans with updates on many controversial situations like Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

He seems to have questioned the developers of Guerrilla Games regarding Aloy’s face and got some answers. A senior cinematic team member confirmed to a developer that Aloy was deliberately altered to look less pretty in the latest entry.

-Mangalawyer

Aloy was highly criticised because of how bad she looked in the game. This caused a ruckus and hindered sales. Horizon Zero Dawn has sold nearly 25 million copies, while Forbidden West only sold over 8 Million

Aloy’s Appearance Change in Horizon Forbidden West Was Highly Criticized

The difference is clear, as even on PC, the player base was down by 50%. Now, a remaster of the first game in the series is also in the works, so Guerrilla Games might alter Aloy’s face again. It is already an unwanted remaster, so making Aloy ugly in the remaster would surely backfire

Also, none of this information is confirmed, so we advise players to take this rumour with a massive grain of salt. It is better to wait for the developer to comment on this, but given the nature of this rumour, they might never do that.

Gaming Benchmarks of The Best CPUs For RX 7600

Our hardware experts conducted a series of tests to assess the gaming performance of the Best CPUs For RX 7600. Here are the results:

Important CPU Key Terms

  1. CoresA CPU core is an independent processing unit within a CPU that can separately execute instructions. Modern-day CPUs have multiple cores for faster instructions.
  2. ThreadsThreads are the smallest units of a program that can be executed separately by a processor.
  3. CacheA CPU has three types of cache, L1, L2, and L3 cache. These are small amounts of fast-speed memory that save the location of directories that are opened repeatedly.
  4. Clock SpeedThe clock speed of a CPU refers to the number of data cycles it can complete in one second. Unlike popular opinion, faster clock speeds don’t generally mean better performance.
  5. TDPAlso known as Thermal Design Power, TDP is the heat a processor emits. The term is used interchangeably with wattage consumption, but there’s a minor difference between both.
  6. IPC: Short for Instructions Per Clock, the IPC showcases the number of instructions executed by a CPU in one second. Faster IPC means better productivity and gaming performance.
  7. OverclockingOverclocking is when you increase the clock speed of your CPU, GPU or RAM beyond the manufacturer’s certified speed. It is done by increasing the core voltage of the part you’re overclocking.

How We Picked These CPUs

There are various things you must consider before purchasing a processor. For example, the gaming performance, thermal and power efficiency, overclocking support, and value for money are important considerations. It can be tough to choose the best CPU, but here’s how I did it:

  • Performance: Knowing which processor is best suited for a graphics card can only be possible through research. For the most part, I opted for processors with more cores, threads, and faster clock speeds. Improved IPC speeds are a bonus. Of course, I had to remember that my processor should only be strong enough to run the GPU properly and not overshadow it.
  • Overclocking Support: Being able to overclock your processor is a bonus point to gain a little extra bit of performance. Therefore, while it doesn’t hold top priority, I looked for processors that can be overclocked. Most processors I chose have good overclocking support, and AMD CPUs generally utilize “rage mode”, through which you can overclock your AMD CPU and GPU with one click.
  • Value For Money: Before making a purchase, you always want to check the processor’s performance per dollar ratio. You also want to check whether the CPU you wish to purchase is significantly stronger than your current CPU. Even for the most affordable processor I selected, I ensured it provided more value than its price.
  • Efficiency: You don’t want to buy a CPU that requires a lot of power but provides less performance. Subsequently, you also don’t want to buy a processor that emits a lot of heat. To explain, if you purchase a budget CPU but to cool it you need a more expensive CPU cooler, it’d be better to purchase a better CPU from the start.

Krafton CEO Believes Hi-Fi Rush 2 Will Not Make Any Money

Story Highlight
  • Krafton CEO Kim Chang-han has shared his beliefs that Hi-Fi Rush 2 will not make the studio any money.
  • In an interview, he said that the Tango Gameworks acquisition is more about legacy than chasing successes.
  • The remarks by the CEO suggest that we may not see the Hi-Fi Rush sequel launch anytime soon.

Hi-Fi Rush is one of those games that ended up shaking the industry to its core yet the franchise still suffered a huge blow. Just when the future of the IP was looking bright, Microsoft laid off the whole Tango Gameworks studio. However, Krafton stepped in with its promise to support the innovative and creative team.

Now, the CEO of Krafton, Kim Chang-han, has shared his beliefs regarding the awaited Hi-Fi Rush sequel, and things are not looking good. He does not believe that the rhythm-action entry will make them any money.

Why it matters: The words of the Krafton CEO suggest that Hi-Fi Rush 2 might not be happening anytime soon after all. The conglomerate has recently purchased the rights to the IP, so not all hope has been lost yet.

Hi-Fi Rush
Hi-Fi Rush 2 will have to surpass its own legacy in every way possible to stand out.

Speaking with Game Developer about the massive acquisition, Kim Chang-han clarified that Hi-Fi Rush 2 will not be a massive moneymaker, but it was never the focus.

“We don’t think Hi-Fi Rush 2 is going to make us money, to be frank. But it’s part of our attempt.”

While the CEO thinks it won’t make them any money, he said it’s part of their attempt. So, he basically confirmed that the studio will work on a long-awaited sequel

Hi-Fi Rush
Despite current rumors, Krafton may utilize the Hi-Fi Rush IP in the future.

However, Krafton never wanted to acquire Tango Gameworks for big financial numbers and successes anyway. The CEO notes that Tango Gameworks is highly creative, and they want to preserve that legacy for their future endeavors. Having unique projects in the lineup will ensure that at least one of them will work out.

The company actively purchased the IP rights to secure its future. On the flip side, the sequel may not be as big of a priority as we initially thought.

The Grand Theft Auto franchise has reached various milestones recently. Rockstar’s highly successful GTA 5 recently turned 11, the GTA 6 trailer is approaching its first anniversary, and fans are expecting a major new reveal.

However, September 18 also marked another anniversary that the developer may not be too fond of. Exactly two years ago, the team suffered a major breach that revealed as many as 90+ GTA 6 clips to the world. It is now said that this leak came from a Rockstar India employee.

Why it matters: This example shows the effectiveness of basic scams and attacks, highlighting the need to remain vigilant at all times.

GTA 6 Rockstar India Leak
New Details On The GTA 6 Leak via Twitter

As stated by content creator MMI, a source has shared more details on the infamous hack from 2022.

Two years ago, GTA 6 suddenly leaked on Twitter and various other platforms after Arion Kurtaj gained access to Rockstar’s Slack channels. New details on the situation suggest that this happened via a classic phishing scam.

Kurtaj reportedly faked an email, which a Rockstar India employee then clicked on while working from home. The hacker gained access to this developer’s browser data, revealing nearly 100 videos that showed protagonists Lucia and Jason, gameplay mechanics like going prone while in combat, and much more.

The studio eventually removed the leaks and pursued legal action against the hacker. However, Arion Kurtaj was not willing to back down and even threatened further leaks before being arrested.

The GTA 6 Trailer Showed An Incredible Shot Of The Beach

As per MMI, Rockstar India is working on Vice Beach in GTA 6. The team is said to be among this studio’s most competent, with past work on Red Dead Redemption 2 highlighting its talents and skills.

GTA 6 is currently targeting a Fall 2025 launch, and with the next trailer certainly around the corner, fans have reflected on this game’s interesting history of leaks.

Apart from this major hack, various clips of the game showed up ahead of the first trailer. Even the trailer itself leaked a few hours ahead of schedule, forcing the developer to launch it early for everyone last year.

Star Wars Outlaws Reportedly Sold Well Despite Widespread Criticism

Story Highlight
  • Star Wars Outlaws has received widespread criticism.
  • An analyst estimates that the game sold a whopping 800,000 units in just the last few days of August.
  • This is an encouraging sign, but the game must continue to sell at this rate in the future.

Star Wars Outlaws has been out for nearly a whole month, but it seems everyone has already moved on. Following disappointing review scores and Ubisoft’s stocks taking a sharp fall, a surprising report outlines that the situation may not be as bad as it seems.

According to Ampere Analysis, the game has already sold nearly a million units.

Why it matters: Massive Entertainment or Ubisoft have yet to share any official sales data for the latest blockbuster Star Wars offering.

During the latest Gamesindustry podcast, an Ampere Analysis expert chimed in and shared estimated sales for Ubisoft’s latest launch.

The game is said to have sold 800,000 units globally in August alone. For context, Star Wars Outlaws launched in early access on August 27, with the full release following on August 30.

This means that it sold nearly 1 million units in just a few days. This is far from incredible for such a high-profile release, but the data isn’t as concerning as one might have expected.

Still, Ubisoft isn’t in the clear just yet. The publisher’s games are historically famous for losing their appeal very quickly, so Star Wars Outlaws may not sell a lot more in the coming months.

Star Wars Outlaws
Star Wars Outlaws Could Have Been A lot Better

As is the case with most Ubisoft releases, the game will most likely receive a steep price cut soon. These factors could lead to a disappointing outcome for the publisher, but it remains to be seen exactly how Star Wars Outlaws will turn out in the long term.

As Ampere Analysis points out, the publisher has yet to find a major hit in recent years.

Games like Skull and Bones, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, and Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown have found varying degrees of success despite no shortage of efforts. The publisher will now look toward the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Shadows for a strong finish to 2024.

CDPR Doesn’t Offer Scholarships To Men In Their Latest Diversity Program

Story Highlight
  • CD Projekt Red is behind the groundbreaking titles like The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077.
  • However, the studio seems to be involved in something really controversial.
  • CDPR does not offer mentorship and scholarships to men in its latest diversity program.

CD Projekt Red is one of the best developers in the gaming industry right now. With The Witcher 3, the developer garnered a massive fandom, and it is still waiting for a sequel to this date. However, many were concerned about the developer after Cyberpunk 2077’s release.

Even with a lot of negative feedback, the developer didn’t stop and worked hard to completely earn the fans’ favor back. Now, after redeeming itself, the studio is doing something that might put it in the crosshair.

CDPR has a program known as Diversity and Inclusion but leaves men out of the scholarship program.

Why it matters: If a studio is aiming for diversity, then it should give both men and women equal chances at something.

CDPR Diversity
CDPR, While Focusing On Diversity, Doesn’t Include Men In The Program

On the official website of CDPR, there is a whole section on diversity and inclusion. The goal of this program is to achieve diverse teams, inclusive leaders, and equitable processes. However, despite such claims, there is a mentorship program that provides scholarships for only women.

Men are not even invited to that program, which goes against what they are trying to make. We 100% support women in every field, but we believe that each person should be hired based on their skill, not gender.

Many are criticizing CDPR for this, and this controversy is likely to increase even more. While women deserve to be given a chance, they should be given an equal opportunity to apply for positions as men. That is how diversity should work.

CRPR-Diversity-&-Inclusion
CD Projekt Red Seems To Be Heavily Invested In Diversity And Inclusion

Recently, Ubisoft also wasn’t allowing men to apply for a mentorship program. A legal analyst declared that the studio was breaking the law by doing this. Due to this, Ubisoft is facing a lot of backlash, and the company’s worth is continuously decreasing

Hopefully, CDPR will not get involved with something that is controversial as the developer has a lot of potential. The upcoming games from this developer are highly anticipated as they involve a sequel to The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077.

Ubisoft Quotes Sweet Baby Data To Show Assassin’s Creed Shadows Doing Fine

Story Highlight
  • Ubisoft used a DEI consulting firm, Sweet Baby Inc., to provide seemingly fabricated data about strong pre-orders in Japan.
  • The company’s claims of strong pre-orders conflict with negative feedback on social media and trailers.
  • Ubisoft has been criticized for focusing more on Western views than local perspectives in its cultural representation.

Ubisoft’s recent tactic to address worries about Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ performance in Japan is diabolical. To reassure investors about strong pre-orders, Ubisoft used an expert from Sweet Baby Inc.

However, this choice has raised some eyebrows, as the firm is primarily recognized for DEI consulting, not market analysis. This has led to doubts about the reliability of their claims regarding the game’s success in Japan.

Why it matters: Ubisoft’s marketing efforts for Assassin’s Creed Shadows have been really odd. At first, they used bots to farm engagement on the game’s trailer. Now they’re using former Sweet Baby employees to reassure the game’s doing fine in Japan.

Ubisoft Sweet Baby AC Shadows
Ubisoft allegedly used ex-Sweet Baby employees to fabricate AC Shadows’ pre-order sales in Japan.

The context of the situation is complicated. Ubisoft has faced criticism in Japan over how Yasuke, a historical African samurai, is represented in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

In response, Ubisoft made several public statements to assure fans about the game’s authenticity and respectful representation. However, many critics feel these responses are more aimed at addressing concerns from the West than listening to Japan’s feedback.

Earlier this month, reports suggested AC Shadows’ struggles to secure pre-orders in Japan. Now, Ubisoft stated that pre-orders in Japan were “looking very strong,” referencing data from Sweet Baby Inc.

However, many fans on social media responded with doubt. They questioned whether Ubisoft’s expert was qualified to assess the game’s reception in Japan or if the company was using this data to downplay concerns. This comes after several trailers for Assassin’s Creed Shadows received heavy criticism.

The many dislikes on the game’s trailer go against Ubisoft’s claims of strong pre-orders. Critics believe Ubisoft might be downplaying the negative response to Shadows and hiding real issues with its reception.

Additionally, choosing an outside consultant from Sweet Baby Inc. instead of a more well-known market research firm has raised suspicions that Ubisoft is trying to manage perceptions rather than truly addressing concerns.

Ubisoft has faced criticism for how it handles cultural representation in its games. Interestingly, many Western fans are still excited about the game’s launch despite all these controversies.

Switch 2 Reveal Would Be Perfect Amid PS5 Pro Backlash

Story Highlight
  • The PlayStation 5 Pro reveal has faced much backlash, but it could also be the perfect opportunity for Nintendo to officially unveil the Switch 2.
  • After the PlayStation 5 Pro’s price, Nintendo can now justify the leaked $499 price for Switch 2, which offers substantial improvements.
  • Nintendo could also potentially be a direct competitor to Xbox and PlayStation since reports claim Switch 2 to get day one AAA releases.

The current generation of consoles has been traditionally different, with Xbox seemingly hanging the gloves for now and Sony being the only company to announce a mid-gen refresh for PlayStation this time.

That said, the PlayStation 5 Pro reveal hasn’t exactly been smooth. Its $700 price tag goes up to $900 for a disc drive, tax, and stand. So, this upgrade isn’t even that substantial for such a price hike.

PlayStation 5 Pro has been receiving a lot of backlash, and rightfully so. Conversely, I believe this situation can benefit Nintendo, which could officially announce Switch 2. A Switch 2 reveal would generally receive a better overall reception and scrape all the attention to itself.

Why It Matters: With Sony setting the bar low for gamers, Nintendo has the perfect opportunity to seize all the positive reception via Nintendo Switch 2, considering the console is decent enough in terms of hardware and price.

Switch 2’s Leaked Price Can Now Be Justified

Nintendo Switch
Nintendo Switch 2 Reveal Expected Soon

Nintendo has always been known for making affordable handheld consoles that prioritize accessibility and gaming on the go to compensate for the lack of hardware power. For reference, the Nintendo Switch was launched for just $300, while the Lite variant cost only $200.

With inflation and the increasing demand for video games over the years, the next generation of Switch is expected to pack a punch. This also means that the successor will cost more, considering the above-mentioned factors.

Previously, analysts predicted that Switch 2 would cost around $500, a considerable price rise. Leaks indicate that the handheld console will feature 12GB of RAM and target 4 TFLOPs, offering 8 times the performance of its predecessor.

At least Nintendo can justify the price for the leaked Switch 2 price, which will last a whole generation, in contrast to the PlayStation 5 Pro, which isn’t even a huge upgrade from its base mode.

Switch 2 Could Give PlayStation Competition

PlayStation Nintendo & Xbox Logos
Switch 2 Will Reportedly Directly Compete With Xbox And PlayStation

I agree that Nintendo isn’t a direct competitor to the PlayStation, but the gaming landscape is rapidly shifting. Hardware is advancing so fast despite not being feasible for consumers and their wallets, hence the price hikes.

While major corporations are pushing cloud gaming, I’d argue that it’s still not feasible in 2024. Handheld consoles will get a second wind before we see cloud gaming mainstreamed.

Switch 2 will also have the advantage of reportedly having day-one AAA releases. Nintendo will still retain most of its focus on making mobile titles such as Zelda and Mario games for the console. However, I believe they will deliver a much more balanced platform this time.

This will directly compete with the PlayStation and Xbox consoles. Sure, Nintendo ports won’t be on the same level as the others, but nonetheless, it would still be an impressive feat.

With a decent price tag and a much more AAA title-supported emphasis on the Switch 2 console, Nintendo can deliver one of its best consoles ever. It will sound much more appealable to gamers looking for a hybrid between AAA and casual gaming experience.

This all depends on Nintendo’s ability to capitalize on this moment. A good announcement can convince gamers to choose them over the PlayStation 5 Pro since the console is still a mid-gen refresh and not a new console entirely.

I hope the Switch 2 reveal isn’t as disastrous as the PlayStation 5 Pro. As the CEO mentioned earlier this year, we can expect an announcement soon enough.

Bandai Namco Files ‘Motion To Dismiss’ Against Elden Ring Difficulty Lawsuit

Story Highlight
  • An Elden Ring player recently sued Bandai Namco because of some stupid reasons.
  • Bandai Namco has responded to the claims and filed a motion to dismiss.
  • While this was a smart choice from the giant, we will hear more about this motion on 25th September.

Elden Ring is one of the hardest games ever released, but it is by no means impossible to beat. There are a plethora of things you can use to make the game way easier. However, recently a player decided to sue Bandai Namco over the Elden Ring’s difficulty.

He wasn’t kidding at all and really thought that the developers intended fewer and fewer players to find out new places hidden behind skill checks. Moreover, he thinks that the developer is hiding things from the fandom and that the cut content is a part of the game.

So, he decided to sue Bandai Namco over this, and the gaming giant responded. Instead of countersuing, Bandai Namco simply filed a motion to dismiss to make this whole thing go away.

Why it matters: Suing a behemoth just because it makes hard games is the peak level of stupidity, and such cases shouldn’t even be allowed in the first place.

Bandai Namco's Response
Bandai Namco Was Sued Due To Elden Ring’s Excessive Difficulty

This case was filed on the 1st of July, and notices were sent to both parties. So, now, as spotted by Pirat_Nation on Twitter, Bandai Namco has responded to this case and simply filed a motion to dismiss. The gaming giant also submitted an affidavit in support of the motion.

This is actually pretty hilarious, given that the court allowed such claims by the player to be made. For a normal person to be taking on a shark-like Bandai Namco is plain stupidity. This is just a simple waste of time and resources for both parties.

The player’s claims aren’t that strong, either. He thinks that the cut contents are actually part of Elden Ring, and the developers are hiding that from the players. He also thinks that many of the game’s places are hidden.

Bandai Namco has made a smart choice by simply filing a motion to dismiss, which is most likely to be approved. We will get to hear more about this motion on 25th September. It will be interesting to see how things unfold from here on, as the user was unironically pretty confident that he could take down the publisher.

Black Myth: Wukong Success Is Going To Do Wonders For Chinese Devs

Story Highlight
  • Black Myth: Wukong is the biggest single player game launched on PC.
  • The game’s success surprised many, but it is actually a great thing for Chinese gaming.
  • Now, more and more Chinese developers will take this success as a motivation to work on ambitious projects.

It has been some time since Black Myth: Wukong was released, but the hype is still pretty high. The 24-hour peak is still above 600K, which is pretty surprising for this game, given that its developer has never worked on a title like this before.

I am genuinely surprised by how well this game has performed. Being one of the gamers anticipating this title, I didn’t expect to reach almost 2.5 Million concurrent players on Steam. That is just straight-up a flex Game Science will never let go of, and it is going to do wonders for the Chinese developers

Why it matters: The success of Black Myth: Wukong has motivated many Chinese developers, and it will bring out much more talent from the country now.

Black Myth: Wukong’s Unrivaled Success

Black Myth: Wukong Stunning Environments
Black Myth: Wukong Deserves All The Praise It Is Getting From The Fandom

Having played this game for over 50 hours, exploring almost every single place and fighting every boss, I can confirm that it deserves all the hype and praise. I am a huge fan of the Soulsborne genre, so given that Black Myth: Wukong has taken some inspiration from the genre, I was hyped.

While it is not exactly Soulslike, it is definitely inspired by this genre. Even though I was so excited about this game, not even in my wildest dreams would it have achieved such glory. However, after playing the game, it all makes sense now. I am still surprised, but not as much as I was before.

It is now the most-played single-player game on PC, so it will influence many other games. Due to its success, many other Chinese games will also be on gamers’ radars. So, it’s about time when we see the rise of gaming in China. The Chinese era is coming; I can sense it.

Rise, Chinese Developers

Phantom Blade Zero
Many Gamers Are Looking Forward To Chinese Games Like Phantom Blade Zero

The director of Phantom Blade Zero previously predicted that Black Myth: Wukong would be a massive hit. He said that if it becomes successful, it will greatly help the Chinese developers. I can understand that now very well

Phantom Blade Zero is also being developed by a Chinese developer. I clearly remember how everyone was saying it was going to be a mobile game, but the developer shut everyone by showing the actual gameplay. However, after Wukong this game is getting even more attention.

Did you ever hear about Chinese games before Black Myth: Wukong? You might have heard about Genshin Impact as it is pretty famous. However, that’s a live service and is under miHoYo. Besides that, you might not have heard about a popular game from Chinese developers.

While there are a couple more, none comes close to this game inspired by Journey to the West. Thanks to the success of Black Myth Wukong, more and more gamers will be looking out for upcoming AAA Chinese games; not only that, but many other developers will be putting their minds together to make something unique.

The Chinese fandom has supported their local game a lot, and they are likely to do so again. So, I don’t think the developers would have a shortage of motivation to make another great game.

Western AAA Dominance Is In Danger

Given how well this Chinese AAA game has performed, many will invest in Chinese gaming now. Two of the biggest Chinese publishers, Tencent and NetEase, have a lot of influence in the gaming industry.

Both publishers have built a strong presence in the US and Canada. Many Chinese developers previously worked for Western studios, but after this unprecedented success, they are focusing on their own projects, which is how it should have been from the start.

China has a lot of untapped potential and it is likely to burst out now. Microsoft and Sony are also actively investing in this area, so we are likely to see much more from China. Games like Phantom Blade Zero, Where Winds Meet, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, and Dynasty Warriors: Origins are already on people’s radar.

So, the Western dominance in the AAA game market might not stay for that long anymore. While the West is focusing more on how to make the modern audience happy, Korean, Chinese, and many Japanese developers are focusing on the right audience, which can cause a revolution.

I think things are going to change in the gaming industry, and I can only hope for good things to happen.
