More Memory Than Xbox Series S!

Story Highlight
  • New information points to 12GB DDR5 memory for the Nintendo Switch 2.
  • The console is expected to ship with 256GB of storage compared to just 32GB from its predecessor.
  • Evidence for the inclusion of two microphones has also been spotted.

Following a year of rumors, leaks, and speculation, Nintendo seems to be gearing up for an official Switch 2 announcement soon. However, till then, more details about the console continue to show up.

Users on Famiboards have seemingly figured out this console’s memory configuration. According to reports, the Nintendo Switch 2 will use 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

Why it matters: Competition like the Steam Deck and various other AMD handhelds typically come with more memory, but 12GB should give Nintendo developers a decent amount of RAM to work with.

Nintendo Switch 2 Will Not Be Revolutionary

As pointed out on Reddit, Famiboard users have been tracking shipment data linked to Nvidia and Nintendo for two months, which seems to have revealed 12GB of RAM for the upcoming console.

As proof, the users were able to find evidence of the Nvidia T239 being tested, various devkits, and identifiers matching up to a mystery Nintendo console, which is likely to be the Switch 2.

While the post did not delve too much into the specifics of this process, it landed on a 12GB DDR5 7500 MT/s memory setup for the Nintendo Switch 2. This is 3x as much memory as its predecessor, and past leaks have suggested a similar amount of memory.

According to the data, the memory is divided into two 6GB modules from Micron. Meanwhile, the console is said to include 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage in addition to a built-in mic. Nintendo may also include two microphones, one for each controller.

Nintendo Has Described Its Next Console As An Extension of The Switch

It is worth noting that these specifications should be taken with a grain of salt. However, we can expect even more leaks as Nintendo prepares for its upcoming reveal. Recent data has also suggested a 4TFLOPs target for this console’s GPU.

Needless to say, this should be a notable upgrade for Nintendo in the hardware department. However, the pricing will play an important factor since rumors put this console at a $400 launch price.

For $400, the Steam Deck may be better in terms of raw hardware, but Nintendo’s first-party lineup is sure to do the upcoming console justice.
