Borderlands Dev Roasted By Fans For Celebrating Pride Month, Following Recent Controversy

Story Highlight
  • The CEO of Gearbox Entertainment has said controversial things on many occasions.
  • Recently, he apologised for saying that the real fans would buy the game for $80 at any cost.
  • Now, the studio is under a lot of fire again due to celebrating Pride Month.

The director of Borderlands recently tried to justify the price tag of a $80 game, which caused a lot of controversy. He said that if you are a true fan of a specific game, you will buy it despite its $80 price tag, which is why many fans and content creators started boycotting the upcoming title

This controversy was not too long ago, and another one has just started. The developer is now under fire for celebrating Pride month, and fans are roasting it.

Why it matters: Many developers and publishers targeted the modern audience for their game, which caused their game to either fail to get into a really deep controversy. So, the fandom doesn’t really like it when developers pull off stunts like these.

Gearbox roasted

Not a smart move to do this when nearly every other company isn’t participating anymore, when TARGET and GOOGLE don’t participate in pride month, that should be your sign.

The fandom is rapidly roasting the CEO, and as he was under fire just recently, fans are even angrier. Many companies have pulled out of this Pride month trend because they have realised that the modern audience isn’t their real audience.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, a perfectly executed game’s developer is also under fire for similar reasons.

Well, Gearbox has been on a steady decline for years now. You expect them to get the message that even normies hate all these disengenuous “woke” messages?

The controversies surrounding Borderland Studios are piling up and may negatively affect the upcoming game’s sales in the franchise. While the CEO has already apologized for making such a controversial claim about the game’s pricing, the fandom hasn’t forgiven him, and yet the hatred is only increasing.

It is also worth noting that previously, at the start of the year, the fandom had criticised the game, to which the CEO had replied negatively. So, the situation isn’t pretty good right now

What do you think about the upcoming Borderlands? After all these controversies, are you still excited about the game as a “real fan”? Please share your thoughts with us in the comments section below or join the official Tech4Gamers forums for discussion.

Elden Ring: Nightreign DLC And Two-Player Mode Will Launch Later This Year

Story Highlight
  • FromSoftware has revealed that Elden Ring Nightreign will get a DLC later this year.
  • It was also add enhanced boss battles, and a two-player mode in an upcoming update.
  • The studio plans to support the game for a long time following 3.5 million sales.

Elden Ring Nightreign launched a couple of days ago to a huge player base of over 300K. However, the launch was critically a bit underwhelming, considering it launched to mixed reviews on Steam, and also broke FromSoftware’s perfect streak

Despite this, the number of players is still growing, and FromSoftware has revealed that Elden Ring Nightreign will receive its first DLC later this year, and it will continue to provide post-launch support.

Why it matters: Fans were already not too much in favor of Nightreign’s idea; however, seeing as how big the game has become in such a short span, it is undoubtedly a big commercial success for the studio.

FromSoftware has revealed that the Elden Ring Nightreign DLC will be released later this year

Taking to X, the studio announced that Elden Ring Nightreign has topped 3.5 million copies sold already. Furthermore, it will continue to support it, and a DLC along with a two-player mode are scheduled to release this year.

Moreover, fights against the existing Nightlords will also be enhanced for an even better experience, and more playable characters will also be added. All in all, FromSoftware seems to have a lot of plans for the title.

Lightweight Vs Heavy Gaming Mice: Which One’s Best For You?

Story Highlights
  • Before considering the weight, it’s crucial to know your hand size, natural grip style, and preferred DPI.
  • Once you figure that out, a lighter mouse is a great option for gaming, especially if you have had wrist pain before.
  • A heavier mouse is better for productivity and extended usage because it’s typically more ergonomically shaped and allows you to use a palm grip.

Whether playing a competitive game or using your mouse casually for longer hours, mouse weight plays a vital role. Some people buy mice based on the hype without realizing their needs. In this article, we’ll highlight which one is best for you.

Factors To Consider Before Focusing On Weight

It is worth noting that before choosing either of the mice, you should first know your hand size, which grip style you naturally adhere to, and which DPI you’re most comfortable with. This is crucial because you could be getting either mouse, and it still won’t be comfortable if you don’t consider these factors first.

Hand Size

Choosing a mouse that fits the size of your hand allows you to have comfortable, long sessions without any strain. Otherwise, you may get cramps because the mouse is too wide or too short.

Hand Size

While mice come in different shapes and forms, the lighter ones are usually smaller and more compact. In comparison, heavyweight ones are larger, where some are even awkwardly large, such as the iconic G502 Hero.

Grip Style

Apart from your hand size, knowing your grip type is also crucial to getting the best mouse. Whether you use a palm grip or a claw grip, your grip type affects what mouse you should get.

While most lightweight mice are shaped to accommodate a fingertip or even a claw grip, heavyweight mice are typically designed for the palm grip and are more comfortable with a thumb rest and an ergonomic shape.

Claw Grip Style

There are exceptions for the lightweight ones, such as the Glorios Model I 2, which provides a more ergonomic shape while weighing only 75g, but they aren’t as common. Mostly, the most ergonomic mouse shape in a lighter mouse will be that of the Deathadder V3 Pro.

DPI

DPI also plays a crucial role in determining what mouse is best for you. If you’re a high-DPI user, a heavy-weight mouse will typically serve you since it provides the stability needed to have more control over your cursor or your aim.

Mouse Based On DPI

A lightweight mouse is the best for lower DPI since it’ll glide like air without straining or hurting. A larger mouse pad is also required for these types of mice so that tracking your enemies could land your mouse on the other side of your mouse pad.

But there is no hard-and-fast rule for this, as some players choose to defy these rules and still get their shots in games. It all comes down to preference, which comes from testing. You can use these rules if you haven’t tested what’s best for you.

Which One’s Better For Gaming & Productivity?

Lightweight mice are often great for competitive games because of their reduced inertia. Since they’re usually below the 70-gram mark, they allow players to flick seamlessly and micro-adjust their aim without fatigue or wrist pain.

Light Vs Heavy Mouse For Gaming Or Productivity

A heavy one will suit you most for productivity use since it is usually more comfortable to hold. While there are ergonomic mice that are great for gaming, such as the Basilisk V3 Pro, it is still on the heavier side, weighing around 112g.

Long Term Effects

You need to realize that both of these mice have long-term effects. If the mouse shape and grip suit you, you can easily have prolonged sessions. But there are a few things that you need to be wary of.

Problems With A Lighter Mouse

While lightweight mice give you great control over your movements in games, they can cause cramps in your fingers and thumbs, especially if you use them with a claw grip. Also, using a lighter mouse with a low sensitivity can also cause arm strain, and many professional players have reported this.

Pain Using A Lighter Mouse
Pain Using A Lighter Mouse (Image Credits – r/FortniteCompetitive)

Problems With A Heavier Mouse

For heavy-weight mice, you should know that their weight can cause wrist pain over the long run because reallocating the mouse and landing it back on your mousepad is something you naturally do with your wrist, and the heavier the mouse, the more burden your wrist has to endure.

Which One Should You Get?

Finally, if you’re still unsure which mice to choose, here are some general guidelines. If your wrist tends to hurt or your flicks feel sluggish even after adjusting the DPI and sensitivity, you must drop 10-20 grams off your current mouse.

On the other hand, if you tend to over-aim or under-aim despite adjusting the settings of your mouse, it is a sign that you may need a heavier mouse that stabilizes your hand. We hope these guidelines are helpful to you.

Why You Should Switch To A Glass Mouse Pad (Unfair Advantage)

Story Highlights
  • Glass mousepads are extremely smooth and, unlike cloth mousepads, they aren’t affected by temperature, humidity, or dirt.
  • They’re also resistant to spills, sweats, and dust and are very easy to clean, unlike cloth mouse pads, which require washing and drying.
  • You need to get used to them as they feel too ‘smooth’ at first. Also, they aren’t silent, have no RGB, and aren’t as comfortable as cloth pads.

Most people have been using the standard cloth mouse pad their entire lives, and while they upgrade almost every part of their setup, they fail to upgrade to a glass mouse pad. But this article could be the sign that you’ve finally made that switch.

Glass Mouse Pad

Advantages Of Using A Glass Mouse Pad

One of the major upsides to having a glass mouse pad is, of course, the material difference. You’ll notice immediately that the glass’s surface is smoother compared to a standard cloth mousepad.

Immense Precision

Since glass will be the surface, your mouse won’t just slide across; it’ll actually ‘glide’ across the surface. This is because the surface is almost frictionless, which is where you get precise control over your aim.

With this, you can get the aim you always wanted, where tracking enemies and dragging the mouse according to the recoil in a game will become a breeze because there is practically no resistance that you feel. It’ll almost feel like you’re cheating.

Consistent Smoothness

These mouse pads have also been consistent throughout the past; this means that external factors can affect the smoothness of a cloth mouse pad. For instance, if one of your mouse pads has caught dust and dirt due to prolonged use, you can swap it to the other side to find that this unused side is way smoother.

Also, temperature and humidity impact the smoothness of a cloth mouse pad, which means that your aim will be affected. In contrast, you don’t have to worry about all of these external factors.

Compared To Cloth & Hard Mousepads

The smoothness factor is a big one for glass mouse pads, which becomes prominent once you compare them side-by-side with a cloth mousepad. Switching back and forth feels like there’s an added input delay on the cloth mouse pad.

Glass Vs Cloth Mouse Pad
Glass Vs Cloth Mouse Pad (Image Credits – YT/Patched)

Even if we compare a glass mouse pad to other hard mouse pads like the Razer Firefly V2 Pro, which uses high-quality plastic, we see that the glass one is smoother and feels better.

Hygienic & Durable

Another great thing about these mouse pads is its hygeiencic aspect. While cloth mouse pad become dirty and often need to be washed and dried after a few months of extensive use, glass mouse pads can be cleaned almost instantly

All you need to do is wipe them with a microfiber cloth dipped in warm water and cleaning solution, and they’re good to go. They’re also more durable and are mostly resistant to dust, spills, and sweat. This means that sweaty palms won’t affect the glide of your mouse.

While the new Crosair MM500 V2 is also designed to be precise while remaining spill-free, it can’t come close to a glass mouse pad since the material is different.

Tips Before You Switch To A Glass Mouse Pad

It is worth noting that switching to a glass mouse pad is easier said than done because going from a cloth mouse pad to a glass one might feel like you’re switching from rubber soles to skates.

Might Feel Too Smooth

It does have a learning curve because you need to adjust to the new glass surface. At first, it might be overwhelming because the glass mouse pad would feel too smooth and slippery.

Aren’t Silent As Cloth Mouse Pads

Another thing to be aware of is the acoustic trade-offs. While you do get precise aim, you’ll often hear a ‘ting’ as you reallocate your mouse and land it back on the pad. This might not be very pleasant to some users, but you can get used to it.

Comfort Levels

If the glass mouse pad isn’t bevelled, the edges might rub against your arm, causing strain. Also, these aren’t very comfortable, unlike the cloth mouse pads, which act as a soft cushion for your wrist and arm.

This is why most people who use a glass mouse pad also wear an ergonomic wrist sleeve that not only provides that added comfort but also allows you to glide your arm on the pad for more smoothness.

No RGB

Finally, these mouse pads don’t come with RGB. Unlike the XPG XL RGB, which provides an RGB lighting across your mouse pad, these mouse pads are simple in nature. Also, they don’t usually come with fancy designs, so if the visual appeal is your thing, these might not be for you.

High Cost

With the added benefits, glass mousepads are typically way more expensive than cloth mouse pads, with their price starting from around $30 and going as high as $129 for some larger variants.

Are 8GB VRAM GPUs Enough For Today’s Gaming Standards?

Story Highlight
  • Official system requirements of newer titles don’t require more than 12GB VRAM to run at 1080p 60 FPS at medium to high settings.
  • When buying a new GPU, there are many things to consider aside from just the VRAM. Otherwise, the RTX 2060 performing better than the GTX 1060 6GB wouldn’t make much sense.
  • If you’re only going to play games at 1080p 60 FPS at medium to high settings, an 8GB VRAM GPU might suffice. They are not future-proof anymore, though.

NVIDIA and AMD have been on each other’s throats for the past year, and a few recent GPU releases have sparked controversy in the gaming industry. NVIDIA initially released the RTX 5060 Ti with an 8GB and 16GB variant. A month later, we got the RTX 5060 with 8GB VRAM.

NVIDIA’s moves were criticized by both gamers and AMD. However, AMD has also announced an 8GB variant of the RX 9060 XT, with a 16GB VRAM variant. The question now stands: are 8GB VRAM GPUs enough for today’s gaming standards? Let’s look at the nitty-gritty of it.

System Requirements Of Newer Titles

Before we push the VRAM issue further, what are the system requirements of some newer games? I have created a small table featuring a few recent and popular titles, along with their respective VRAM requirements. Let’s see how many games are asking for 12GB or more VRAM:

Game NameMinimum VRAM RequiredRecommended VRAM Required
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty6-8GB8GB
Clair Obscur: Expedition 338GB8GB (16GB AMD)
Assassin's Creed Shadows8GB12GB
Final Fantasy VII Remake: Rebirth8GB12GB
Hogwarts Legacy4GB8GB
Red Dead Redemption 22GB6GB
Kingdom Come Deliverance 28GB16GB
Marvel Rivals6GB8GB

That’s an interesting chart, don’t you think? I need to mention, though, that the recommended VRAM requirements for most of these games allow you to play at 1080p 60 FPS. In some titles (like Red Dead Redemption 2), using the recommended GPU won’t let you get all the eye candy through ray tracing.

Anyway, back to the main question: is an 8GB VRAM GPU relevant? Perhaps for 1080p 60 FPS gaming at low to medium settings, yes. At that point, AMD’s recent statement stays true. But what about games that are releasing in 2026? GTA VI, for example? I’m tempted to say that an 8GB VRAM GPU won’t be enough to run that kind of game, but no official system requirements have dropped so far to solidify that statement.

Is VRAM All That Matters In GPUs?

Marvel Rivals has proven to be one of the most successful free-to-play games of this year.
Marvel Rivals gameplay.

Honestly, when I started seeing the controversy everywhere, I was almost astounded. It’s 2025, and companies are still promoting this gimmick. Yes, VRAM is important. No, it’s not everything in a GPU. Don’t believe me? The GTX 1060 is a 6GB VRAM GPU released in 2016. Similarly, the RTX 2060 is also a 6GB VRAM GPU, released in 2019. Does that mean both provide the same performance? No. The RTX 2060 is much better than the GTX 1060.

The bottom line is that only looking at the GPU’s VRAM is wrong. There are a bajillion other things you must consider. Yes, VRAM is important. It’s essential for gaming, it’s crucial for AI workload tasks, but it’s not everything. I believe it’s about time we stop glazing over VRAM.

How Does VRAM Help In Games?

VRAM is just RAM, but for the graphics card. Essentially, data related to graphics processing is temporarily stored there for the GPU to render it quickly without having to access slower storage. VRAM wasn’t a significant issue until recently, when higher resolutions became more popular. So, if you’re using a 1440p monitor, there’s a higher chance you’ll need a GPU with more than 8GB or even 12GB of VRAM.

Why is that, though? Sure, there are more graphics to render, but the main culprit is the higher texture resolution. Games typically save textures in a higher resolution than the actual resolution. For example, if you’re using a 1920x1080p monitor, the game will save each texture for 2048×2048 pixels. This keeps increasing as you increase your actual monitor resolution. Hence, for modern games, higher resolution typically means higher VRAM requirements.

Can Lower VRAM GPUs Still Be Future Proof?

9060 Specs
Latest AMD’s RX 9060 XT Specs

As much as I’d love to say yes, 8GB VRAM GPUs at 1080p are about to become void. Heck, even my RTX 3060, a 12GB GPU, struggles to run a few titles at the highest settings in 1080p. On the other hand, the RX 9060 XT 16GB has 14% worse performance than the RX 7700 XT, which has 12GB VRAM.

Still, depending on your budget and use case scenario, you may want to get a GPU with higher VRAM and better overall performance. After all, higher resolution equates to higher VRAM requirements. So, if you’re not planning to go over 1080p 60 FPS for a couple of years, you might be fine with a lower VRAM GPU, but if that’s not the case, it may be better to invest slightly more in a higher-tier GPU.

We Need To Look Beyond Simple Numbers

The bottom line from all of this is that we need to look beyond simple numbers. Official system requirements can be off-putting at times. Sometimes you need stronger hardware than required; at other times, weaker hardware works fine too. Even so, are 8GB VRAM GPUs enough for today’s gaming standards? Perhaps, if you’re on a lower 1080p 60Hz panel, a weaker GPU may still be worthwhile.

The only reason 1080p 60 FPS remains the standard is that companies haven’t made 1440p accessible for budget gaming. Once we reach that threshold, 8GB GPUs won’t be as viable as they are today. I’ve been using computers since the days of CRT monitors, and I’d love to see 1440p become the official trend for budget gaming soon.

This drive comes with a Hynix 4GB DRAM chip which is LPDDR4 3200 (BWCC2X32N2A-32G-X).  The 3D TCL NAND packages seem to be from Biwin itself as suggested by the label BWT2BN8FF-0027. Each package is 2TB capacity. Besides, this SSD also uses SLC for caching that helps in sustained bursts of writes.

Testing

The following test build is used:

We have used the following software:

  • ATTO Disk Benchmark
  • CrystalDiskMark
  • Anvil Pro Storage Utilities 1.1.0
  • DiskBench
  • Blackmagic Disk Benchmark
  • 3DMARK Storage Benchmark
  • PCMARK10 Storage Benchmark

Microsoft Windows 11 23H2 is used for the testing.

Crystal-Disk-Info

I ran CrystalDiskInfo after installing the disk. Biwin has sent a fresh unit since the power on hours count is 0. The firmware version is FW1222A. The interface is listed as NVM Express using 2.0 as standard. It also confirmed that the drive is operating at PCIe 5.0 at x4 speed link. The supported features are S.M.A.R.T, TRIM, and VolatileWriteCache.

Test Results

CrystalDiskMark

Let’s start with three different runs of CrystalDiskMark. This drive did 14212.34MB/s in sequential read and 13179.54MB/s in sequential write speeds. This is an impressive performance making this the fastest SSD on my test bench ever.

CrystalDiskMark

The Biwin X570 Pro 4TB takes the lead beating the other two Gen5 SSD though with a narrow margin.

ATTO Disk Benchmark

ATTO-Disk-Benchmark

The maximum read speed on Biwin X570 Pro 4TB was 13.28GB/s in read and 12.25GB/s in write which is unrivaled in the graph.

Anvil Storage Utilities Benchmark

Anvil-Disk-Benchmark

Next, I ran the Anvil Storage Utilities benchmark to test the performance of the drive. This test resulted in a mixed pattern. The Read score of this drive is better than the other two Gen5 drives but the write and overall score are lower than T-Force GC Pro 2TB drive.

I also ran Threaded Writes in queue depth of 32 and 64. The SSD almost touches the 1600K IOPS validating the rated speeds.

Next, I ran the Threaded Reads in queue depths of 32, 64, and 128 threads. This is where the drive could not pass the 2000K rating. In fact it hardly did 1200K IOPS.

3DMark Storage Test

3DMark Storage test is relatively a new test bench measuring the gaming only performance of the given drive using three games. It measures the load time of the games, recording the game play, saving the game and moving the game. The overall score is given in the bandwidth and access time.

3DMARK-Storage-Benchmark

Biwin X570 Pro 4TB could not manage a close closure with the other two Gen5 drives. Its average speed, score and timing sit in the Gen4 drives slot. This is an average performance from this drive.

PCMARK10

We ran two tests from Storage benchmarks in this suite. These are Data Drive Benchmark and Quick System Drive Benchmark.

We are seeing a tough fight among all three Gen5 drives. Almost all three drives are neck-on-neck.

Blackmagic Disk Benchmark

Blackmagic-Disk-Benchmark

We have used Blackmagic disk benchmark as well. This is a critical benchmark from the point of view that it monitors the three video compression coders against multiple formats and check if the drive in hand supports that format and if it does then at what speed.

Real World Testing

Now, it is time for a real world use. For that we have used DiskBench in multiple scenarios to check the real world data transfer rates. We prepared a data set of mixed files and folders including compressed files.

DiskBench-Read-File

A 97GB-sized compressed file was copied to the Biwin X570 Pro 4TB NVMe SSD. The file was then read from the DiskBench. This SSD has performed quite well with 3946MB/s taking 24.19 seconds. This drive is so far the winner of all in this test bench.

DiskBench-Copy-File

Next, I copied the same compressed file from one folder to another on the same drive. The transfer rate was 2853MB/s and it took 33.4 seconds to complete this operation. This drive has taken a significant performance hit compared to the other two Gen5 drives.

DiskBench-Copy-Dir-220GB

Next we copied a folder of 220GB size containing multiple compressed files, sub-folders and mixed files. The main folder was copied from the same drive to a destination drive on the same drive. The transfer rate 2958 MB/s and it took 1.25 minutes to complete this operation. We are still seeing a performance hit compared to other two GTen5 drives.

Ultimate Performance Tests

Next, I prepared a heavy data of 530GB and repeated the copy operation.

DiskBench-Copy-Dir-529GB

Well, well, well! Tables are tuned as Biwin X570 Pro 4TB took a strong lead over the other two Gen5 drives. This is a strange behavior from the drive lacking the consistency compared to the other two Gen5 drives.

Disk Bench Heavy Load
Disk Bench Heavy Load

I wanted to see the impact on the data copy speeds particularly the write speeds with drive filling up to full capacity. For that I prepared 944GB heavy data and repeated the copy operation.

It took 6.7 minutes to complete this operation at an average speed of 2381.305 MB/s. Despite filling the space near to full capacity, the drive maintains over 1300MB/s write speed which is even better than the other two Gen5 drives. It seems like this drives performs better when handling large set of data.

Gaming Load Time

This is the time where gamers are using NVMe SSDs for their games for faster loading. This is why we also test the game load times. This is done using the Final Fantasy XIV : Shadowbringers Benchmark using High settings.

Game-Load-Time

It took 5.673 seconds in total to load the game.

Thermals

Thermals

68ᵒC was the maximum temperature recorded when the simultaneous read and write operation of 944GB data was done on this drive. I have used Teamgroup Dark AirFlow-I active cooling solution. This is a good performance given the high ambient temperature.

❌You are on budget: This SSD comes in at £459.99. You can alternatively take a look at 2TB variant of this SSD.

Final Words

I have tested Biwin Black Opal X570 Pro 4TB NVMe SSD. This is a third PCIe Gen5x4 SSD on my test bench. This SSD is available in 1TB, 2TB and 4TB variants. This fifth generation drive retails at £459.99.

The driving force of this SSD is SM2508 which is an eight channel controller supporting PCIe Gen5. This SSD comes equipped with Hynix 4GB DRAM chip based on DDR4-3200. The two 2TB TLC 3D NAND Flash chips are from Biwin.

This SSD comes with a Graphene thermal pad. This SSD under active cooling did 68°C using heavy workload at an ambient of 35°C. This drive has a dimension of 22x80x2.5mm making this SSD compatible with Sony Play Station 5. This drive features TRIM, S.M.A.R.T, E.C.C. 4K LDPC.

This drive is rated for 14000MB/s sequential read and 13000MB/s sequential write. It is rated for 2000K IOPS in 4K Random Read and 1600K IOPS in Write. It has 3000 TBW which is highest of all three Gen5 SSDs in the graph. The MTBF, however, is lower than the other two Gen5 drives.

In our testing, this SSD has crossed 14000MB/s and 14000MB/s in sequential read and write speeds respectively. The overall performance of this drive is good although in some tests it was slacker particularly comparing against the other two Gen5 drives. Keep in mind that in real world performance, the numbers are hidden and PCIe Gen4x4 drives offer competitive performance.

Former GTA Producer Thinks There Shouldn’t Be Filler Content In Video Games

Story Highlight
  • The former producer of GTA 3, 4, 5, RDR, and LA Noire believes that there should be less content in video games.
  • He thinks that 20 hours to beat a game is a good time, as his upcoming title, MindsEye, features a similar playtime.
  • In a recent interview, Leslie Benzies stated that 60 to 70% of gamers don’t complete the game.

Side content in a video game is essential as it allows you to experience more of a particular game’s goodness, or you might get some more lore on a character you like. Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the best examples of such games, as it offers a lot of side content that helps you better understand the characters.

However, the renowned producer of GTA games thinks a game shouldn’t feature filler content, and this statement is a little more controversial than the person may have initially thought.

Why it matters: Side content in a game is necessary, as if the game is so good like RDR2, Cyberpunk 2077, Elden Ring, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, you can’t be just satisfied with the main story.

Cyberpunk-Sequel-First-Person-Mode-Only
Cyberpunk 2077 Side Content Is Top-Notch.

Speaking in an interview with Gamesindustry.biz, Leslie Benzies said that his studio’s upcoming game, MindsEye, will take around 20 hours to complete, and that is because he doesn’t think filler content should be in video games.

I don’t think you can have filler content in games. I think people want the meat and they want the potatoes, with big games, majority of people 60% or 70% of people don’t actually play games to the end.

-Leslie Benzies

To those not in the know, Benzies was the producer behind games like GTA 3, 4, 5, Red Dead Redemption, and LA Noire. Therefore, he is a significant figure in the gaming industry, lending his opinion greater weight.

Benzies also thinks that the majority of players don’t play the games to the end, which is why, in his opinion, the 20ish hours required to complete a game is the perfect time.

This statement might be a bit controversial, as when a game is good and has a massive open world along with side content, fans tend to play it for over a hundred hours easily

What do you think about the statement from Leslie Benzies? Do you think side or filler content deserves to be in a video game? Please share your thoughts with us in the comments section below or join the official Tech4Gamers forums for discussion
