The Witcher 4 was first revealed in December 2024 at the Game Awards. While most people were caught by pleasant surprise, some weren’t and are still not happy with the choice of protagonist that the fourth entry has opted for.
However, Geralt’s voice actor has defended the choice and says Ciri is a very interesting character. For people who think The Witcher 4 has gone woke, ‘Read the damn books’.
Why it matters: Yes, Ciri is trained by the witchers, but she never technically turned into a complete Witcher because she never underwent the mutations through the Trial of the Grasses; therefore, fans are angry at the choice.
Talking to Fall Damage, Geralt actor Doug Cockle talked about Ciri as the protagonist of the upcoming Witcher game. He said you can’t just have Geralt for every single game through eternity, and Ciri is a very cool character from the games.
If you think it’s woke, read the damn books – they’re good, first of all. And secondly, you won’t think it’s so woke anymore.

Cockle says we saw the end of Geralt’s journey in Blood and Wine, where he finally settles down in Toussant. This is true, considering it was a very peaceful conclusion to the Witcher’s adventurous journey over the three games.
However, despite Ciri taking the reins, this isn’t the end of Geralt, as it is confirmed he’ll still play a part in The Witcher 4. Nonetheless, this marks his conclusion as the protagonist and the beginning of a new era for the franchise.
