Pimax Unveils Crystal Pro With 6 Gbps Wireless VR Streaming

Pimax claims up to 6 Gbps wireless speeds with less than 2ms of added latency.

[Press Release] Pimax has unveiled the Crystal Pro, a new wireless PC VR headset featuring its Native Foveated Streaming technology. The headset was announced alongside new Ringless VR Controllers, the Spation mini-PC, and Pimax’s new Stratosphere Blue brand identity.

The Crystal Pro includes built-in Wi-Fi streaming and a Wi-Fi 6E adapter. Users can also purchase the third-generation 60G AirLink kit, which uses eye tracking to send the GPU’s native image directly to the headset without traditional video encoding.

Pimax claims the 2×2 MIMO connection can reach up to 6 Gbps with less than 2ms of added latency. The system delivers an image equivalent to 2880 x 2880 pixels per eye in the user’s focus area. The 60GHz connection cannot pass through walls, so antenna placement will be important.

The headset uses QLED displays with 2880 x 2880 resolution per eye, a 110-degree horizontal field of view, and refresh rates up to 120Hz. Mini-LED local dimming provides 576 zones per eye.

It also features 120Hz eye tracking, SLAM 2.0 inside-out tracking, and optional faceplates for Lighthouse tracking and mixed reality.

The Crystal Pro uses an external 16,000mAh battery pack and supports optional DisplayPort 1.4a wired connectivity.

The new Ringless VR Controllers replace traditional tracking rings with infrared LED and motion-sensor tracking. They support 6DOF VR tracking and can also work as a wireless Windows and Steam gamepad.

Meanwhile, the Pimax Spation is a compact gaming PC with desktop-class hardware, including options for a Ryzen 7 9800X3D, RX 9070 XT, or RTX 5070 Ti. It will support Windows and SteamOS, while Pimax Play is also coming to Linux.

The Pimax Crystal Pro costs $1,399, while the version with the third-generation 60G AirLink costs $1,899. The AirLink kit will also be available separately for $599.

Pimax has not announced shipping dates yet, but customers can currently place a $1 reservation.
