  • The developer remains concerned about AI reducing artistic control, even if the tech improves performance.
  • Kojima also acknowledged that these tools will probably become standard across the industry.

Hideo Kojima remains one of the industry’s most respected developers, and as he continues to work on Physint, the developer has previously shared his thoughts on how he feels AI will shape the games industry.

With the advent of new technologies like DLSS 5, Hideo Kojima has once again brought up the subject of AI. In fact, he feels mixed about AI as a result of its rapid improvements.

Why it matters: DLSS 5 has split many developers, with many believing AI is the future of game development and others not being on board with the technology.

During a recent podcast, Hideo Kojima shared cautious thoughts on AI in game development after DLSS 5 became part of the conversation around Death Stranding 2. The Metal Gear creator said he has mixed feelings about AI-based technology like Nvidia’s latest upscaling solution.

Kojima argues that he doesn’t like AI or tools changing his work too much, noting that he chose specific visuals and lighting for a reason. The developer argued that AI use would be different if the tool was able to interpret developer intentions.

He believes that things would be different if developers themselves used AI to reach their intended results.

As the person who made the original, I wouldn’t want someone changing it too much. There was a reason I chose a particular lighting setup.
