GTA 5 Expands To Yet Another Platform Somehow!

Story Highlight
  • GTA 5 recently became playable in a browser through an unofficial project.
  • Rockstar Games and Take-Two have now taken the project down.
  • Many clips show players going through the game’s opening section using this project, highlighting just how impressive it was.

Having sold millions of units and become one of the world’s biggest game to date, GTA 5 has been going strong for 13 years now.

The title is practically available across all platforms today, and with the exception of a platform like the Nintendo Switch, there aren’t many places where GTA 5 isn’t playable today. In fact, GTA 5 even became playable in a browser recently.

Why it matters: GTA 5 running on a web browser is nothing short of a miracle, considering the size of its open-world, especially since browser games aren’t typically all that ambitious in nature.

GTA 5 somehow found its way into a web browser before GTA 6 has landed, with the game being made playable without the usual full PC installation route.

The aforementioned video shows GTA 5’s opening section running at around 60FPS in a browser. Although performance isn’t perfect 100% of the time, this version is still extremely impressive for what it achieves.

This is not the first time a fully-fledged game has been made playable via a browser, but because GTA 5 is so big in scope, this is certainly very interesting to see, especially for a fully native port.

Unfortunately, the project has now been taken down by Rockstar Games. In typical fashion, Take-Two and Rockstar Games have again been quick to take action against GTA 5 fan projects, similar to the recent actions related to the Nintendo Switch fan port.

GTA 5 Is Now 13 Years Old

GTA 6 is now just over one full month away from its release, so it’s very interesting to see how many weird milestones have been able to achieve before this release. Perhaps GTA 5 will show up on even more platforms before its successor finally launches in November.
