The Witcher 4 Team Knew Choosing Ciri As Protagonist Could Spark Controversy

Story Highlight
  • Witcher 4’s first trailer finally debuted earlier this month.
  • The developer has talked about how they already knew that the switch to Ciri as the protagonist could be controversial.
  • However, he further states that the game’s goal is to prove that Ciri is a great choice as the next main character.

Just recently, during the Game Awards, CD Projekt Red finally released the first trailer of Witcher 4, which was well received by fans.

While Ciri was an obvious choice for many as a protagonist in Witcher 4, some fans are still upset about the decision. Talking about it, CD Projekt Red developers said they knew the Ciri switch could be controversial as fans loved playing as Geralt.

Why it matters: Geralt has been the main character in the last three games of the franchise. Therefore, many fans aren’t ready to switch to any other protagonist.

The Witcher 4
The Witcher 4 release date announcement is yet to be made.

During a recent interview with VGC, narrative director Phillip Weber talked about how the team already knew that this decision could be controversial to many for obvious reasons.

I think we definitely knew it could be controversial for some people because of course, in the previous three Witcher games Geralt was the protagonist.

-Phillip Weber

Phillip further stated that even he loved playing as Geralt, which is why he knew some fans would be upset about this decision. However, he also states it is a legitimate concern if fans still want to play as Geralt.

The Witcher 4
CDPR says The Witcher 4 will avoid Cyberpunk 2077’s launch problems.

Further talking about Ciri, Weber stated that the goal is to prove with Ciri as the main character, players can do so many interesting things that would make her worth it as the protagonist.

Some believe that Witcher 4 faces criticism because of Ciri as the protagonist. However, Ciri has a strong backstory and enough strength to be a fitting lead for the next game in the series.

Nonetheless, not much information about the game has been announced yet. Recently, it was reported that the Witcher 4 map size would be more or less the same as that of Witcher 3.

Other reports have also suggested that the game may be skipping Xbox Series S due to hardware limitations.

Skull and Bones to Receive Two Years of Post-Launch Updates Despite Struggling

Story Highlight
  • Despite a large development budget, Skull and Bones has struggled to maintain a player base.
  • However, Ubisoft reportedly intends to provide two years of post-launch content for the game.
  • Upcoming content is rumored to include new player-versus-player modes and possibly a crossover with Assassin’s Creed Black Flag.

In recent years, the live-service model has faced a plethora of challenges. Games like Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, Concord, and Ubisoft’s XDefiant have had trouble staying relevant or even lasting.

Skull and Bones is no exception, as the game struggles to maintain a consistent player base. The game cost Ubisoft a whopping $850 million and only managed to peak at 400 concurrent players on Steam.

However, Ubisoft has reportedly pledged to deliver two years of post-launch content for Skull and Bones, despite its struggles.

Why it matters: The planned updates sound promising, but Ubisoft must tackle core issues and set the game apart from competitors.

Skull and Bones 2 Years Post Launch Content
According to several reports, Skull and Bones performed worse than Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

Skull and Bones was released in February 2024 after a long development process. The game received mixed reviews, with a Metacritic score of 59/100 and a user score of 3.4 out of 5. The game has already seen a major 90% discount.

However, according to Insider Gaming, Ubisoft plans to continue supporting Skull and Bones into its second year. Year 2 Season 1 is expected to start early next year, possibly right after the game’s first anniversary on February 16.

The planned updates are said to include new PvP game modes, additional locations to explore, new world tiers to improve progression, and crossover events. There are also rumors of a possible collaboration with Assassin’s Creed Black Flag.

Despite its low Steam numbers, sources suggest that Skull and Bones may be doing better on other platforms, which could explain Ubisoft’s ongoing investment in the game.

This persistence is unexpected, especially after Ubisoft decided to shut down XDefiant despite plans for extended content.

Skull and Bones
Can the game survive?

It’s important to take these claims with caution, as Ubisoft’s plans for extended support can change quickly. For example, XDefiant’s executive producer, Mark Rubin, was optimistic about future updates, but Ubisoft announced the game’s cancellation just a few months later.

The live-service market is tough, but Ubisoft’s decision to stick with Skull and Bones shows they’re willing to take risks. Whether this gamble will succeed remains to be seen.

Are you going to jump back into Skull and Bones if it receives new content updates? Let us know in the comments, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remake Allegedly In Development; Releases Next Year

Story Highlight
  • The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remake is seemingly in the works, as teased by a popular industry insider.
  • The remake is possibly planned to launch next year, but an exact release window remains unconfirmed.
  • Past rumors from the FTC doc leak pointed to an Oblivion remaster for 2024, further solidifying these claims.

The last decade in the gaming scene has seen a huge rise in remakes and remasters—which some argue has siphoned the innovation out of major studios.

However, Elder Scrolls is arguably the one IP that has not received enough of the remake treatment, forcing fans to come out with their own projects. This might change pretty soon, as The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion remake now might be in the works.

A popular industry insider clarifies that the Oblivion Remake is real and might be coming sooner than we think. The studio behind the project is allegedly preparing for an official announcement.

Why it matters: The new rumor mill affirms the past findings from the FTC doc leak that teased an Oblivion remaster meant to launch in 2024. It might have become a remake during mid-development.

In a new video detailing a bunch of ongoing rumors, EXtas1s claims that The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remake is certainly in the works. He thinks official info regarding the project will likely be dropped during the rumored Xbox Developer Direct event this coming January.

The Oblivion Remake is expected to launch next year, but there is no release window to go along with it. However, past rumors from the FTC doc leak talked about an Oblivion remaster, which was supposed to drop in 2024.

The FTC leak also revealed that Virtuos was brewing the remaster using Unreal Engine 5. This project might have changed into a full-fledged remake sometime during mid-development.

The Elder Scrolls 6
Bethesda is also working on the highly anticipated Elder Scrolls 6, which won’t launch until at least 2026.

All in all, it is best to take the new rumor mill with a pinch of salt, as Bethesda—nor the supposed developer—has confirmed or denied these claims.

Do you think the Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remake will launch next year, or is it just another unfounded rumor based on past leaks? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the official Tech4Gamers forum.

Sony Acquires 10% Stake in FromSoftware Parent Kadokawa for $331.2 Million

Story Highlight
  • Sony and Kadokawa’s recent rumors have culminated in a major deal.
  • The former has purchased Kadokawa shares worth nearly $330 million to become the majority stakeholder.
  • This collaboration will leverage the latter’s anime and gaming IPs for future projects.

Over the last few weeks, much has been said about Sony’s intentions to acquire Kadokawa. FromSoftware’s parent company also confirmed discussions on the subject, and many employees seemed quite optimistic about this deal.

Following such rumors, the deal has been made official. While the gaming giant has not fully acquired Kadokawa, Sony has become the company’s majority shareholder. Sony already owned 14% of FromSoftware’s shares since 2020, and now their total shares in the Kadokawa group are 10%.

Why it matters: Kadokawa owns the rights to various important IPs. The company has a major presence in the anime business, and it owns FromSoftware, one of gaming’s biggest studios today.

Sony Owns Kadokawa Shares
Sony Confirms Deal With Kadokawa via press release

As per Sony’s official press release, it has signed a strategic partnership with Kadokawa. This partnership puts it in a power position after the purchase of 12,054,100 shares, giving the company ownership to nearly 10% of Kadokawa’s shares.

This purchase has cost the gaming giant nearly $330 million, giving Sony a part in future projects related to Kadokawa IPs. While this collaboration is unlikely to result in exclusive AAA titles, it might lead to platform-specific content for future FromSoftware games.

Sony has made it clear that it will focus on anime, live-action films, and games for existing IPs through this collaboration.

The two companies plan to discuss specific initiatives for collaborations, such as initiatives to adapt Kadokawa’s IPs.

Elden Ring Nightreign
Elden Ring Nightrein Is Set To Arrive Next Year

FromSoftware is currently working on Elden Ring Nightrein, so it will be interesting to see if Sony’s stake in the parent company impacts this release in any way.

Perhaps the gaming giant will secure priority for PlayStation in terms of specific optimizations or timed content. This has been a common strategy from PlayStation in the past, especially for games like Call of Duty.

The ARC B580 is priced higher than the Arc A580 of the previous generation, which launched at $179. Furthermore, the TDP has increased from 175W to 190W. Compared to Nvidia and AMD’s current crop of cards, it is the cheapest entry-level option.

Architecture

Intel Arc 2nd gen Xe Core architecture
2nd gen Xe core (Image Credits: Intel)

The GPU uses Intel’s second-generation Xe core architecture. We get an optimized render slice to reduce latency, remove stalls, and provide better HW/SW handshake capabilities. Each Xe core includes 8x vector engines, 8x matrix extension engines, 64-bit ops support, and 192KB of shared L1 cache.

The vector engine has been updated, moving to extended native SIMD16 support. It also has extended math and FP64 format and a 3-way co-issue. Also improved are the matrix extension engines, offering higher throughput with FP16 at 2048 ops/clock and INT8 at 4096 ops/clock.

Ray tracing capabilities have improved thanks to the larger ray tracing units, which include a new traversal pipeline (totalling 3x), 18x box intersections (from 12), and a new triangle intersection.

Intel did not provide benchmarks but rather claimed performance improvements in different tasks, such as a 4.1x increase in Mesh shader dispatch and 1.5x faster vertex processing. Ray triangle intersection and ray tracing are 1.6x and 2.1x faster, respectively.

Packaging and Unboxing

The ARC B850 comes in a blue box, quite similar to previous generations. On the front is the GPU name, while some features are highlighted on the backside.

Unboxing (Image by Tech4Gamers)

Inside, the GPU sits in a black box.

The GPU is all black and has a dual-fan design. On the backside, its name is printed, and a cutout exposes the heatsink inside. This is something we’ve seen in a few Nvidia cards before. It looks great and helps with cooling!

The ARC B850 occupies two slots and has four output display ports. These include three DisplayPort 2.1 and an HDMI 2.1a. The middle DisplayPort 2.1 supports a higher bitrate than the other two. An 8-pin PCIe connector provides 12V power. Up to 225W is available to the card (150W from the connector and 75W from the PCIe slot).

Test Setup

Here’s a look at our test bench:

Gaming Benchmarks

Let’s start with 1080p performance.

1080p Gaming Benchmarks

Let’s start with the 1080p benchmarks. All the titles are tested at very high/ultra (or equivalent preset).

The Arc B580’s 1080P gaming performance is thoroughly impressive. It maintained at least a fairly playable FPS across all the test titles, outperforming all other cards on three occasions. Compared to other cards around its price range (that is, generally costlier than the B580), the card’s price to performance is great.

1440p Gaming Benchmarks

With 12 GB of VRAM, Intel is targeting the 1440P market with this card, so it’s only right we test the same titles at that resolution. Let’s put it to the test.

Like the 1080P testing, all titles are tested at very high/ultra presets.

The Arc B580 impresses even more at 1440P resolution, now beating all the other cards in five titles. In the remaining two titles, it’s beaten only marginally. Intel hit the nail on the head as the GPU, marketed for 1440P gaming, beats all the other GPUs in our list when we average the scores across all the games. Given, you might need to use upscaling and/or tune down the settings a bit, but that’s completely fair given its price tag.

Ray Tracing

As we discussed in the Architecture section, Intel has also worked on the ray tracing cores, so let’s see how that translates to real-world performance. Of course, considering the performance hit of ray tracing, we can’t expect a lot from a sub-$300 card, and we’ll add upscaling to the mix.

As a reminder, the card has 20 ray-tracing cores, compared to 32 Arc A770 and 28 Arc A750 (which cost $289 at launch).

While it’s unrealistic to expect playable performance in demanding titles like Alan Wake 2 and Black Myth: Wukong (especially at ultra preset), it’s clear that the card can, in fact, handle ray tracing in those slightly friendlier titles like Cyberpunk 2077. The card managed nearly 60 FPS on average when mixed in with AMD FSR at quality.

Thermals And Power

One area where the new generation seemingly hasn’t improved is power consumption. The Arc B580 is rated at 190W, which puts it only below the previous generation’s Arc A770 and A750 cards (both rated at 225W).

We noted its power consumption across our 1440P gaming tests and also tested the average idle power consumption. The idle power consumption is important to test as Intel’s Arc Alchemist GPUs were plagued with high consumption initially at launch. For this test, we left our system idle for 10 minutes with only the essential Windows programs running.

Meanwhile, for load testing, we are using Cyberpunk 2077, running it at 4K at ultra to push the card to its limit. We also noted the power consumption draw here.

Given the Arc B580’s 190W TDP rating, the power draw during 1440P gaming is decent, at 157.6 watts. Meanwhile, we noted 35W on average when we left our test system idle. This is still quite high. It looks like we will have to wait for newer drivers to see if Intel will address this issue. If not, you might have to resort to ASPM (Active-state power management).

The Arc B580 consumed 187.1 watts at max, while the maximum GPU core temperature was 67°C. This is pretty impressive for a dual-fan card consuming that much power; the cooling design is a success! The power efficiency has definitely improved, especially compared to last generation’s Arc A770. It consumed far less power than the Arc A770 and RX 7600 XT, but is still far behind Nvidia in terms of power efficiency.

Value: Is It Good Enough?

Considering the utter mess the entry-level gaming GPU market has been in the past few years, the Arc B580 comes as a breath of fresh air. We’re glad to see the competitive performance compared to similarly priced cards, including the Arc A770. With a price tag of $249, it’s cheaper than all the competing cards from our benchmarks, even though those cards launched around a year or longer ago.

For what you’re paying, you get excellent performance, and the card is capable of smooth 1440P gaming in most titles with a few tweaks. Compared to the RTX 4060 and the RX 7600 XT, the overall numbers in our tests are better. Power consumption, while not as good as Nvidia, has improved over the previous generation.

Overall, this is undeniably the best value we’ve seen for an entry-level card in a few years.

Should You Buy It?

Better question: why shouldn’t you buy it!?

Buy It If:

✅You’re looking for an entry-level GPU: As it stands, this is the best you can get in the entry-level GPU market unless you’re willing to go the “second-hand route.” It’s well capable of handling 1440P gaming, and plenty for 1080P.

✅More VRAM is important: Compared to other budget-oriented cards, the Arc B580 houses 12 GB of GDDR6 memory, plenty for 1440P gaming.

✅You want impressive thermal efficiency: Despite its fairly high power consumption, the GPU manages to keep its cool; it didn’t even touch 70°C under 4K gaming loads.

Don’t Buy It If:

❌You want less power consumption: Users who want the best power consumption numbers (under stress or at idle) should seek other options, such as the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060.

Final Thoughts

The Intel Arc B580 is an excellent option for stepping into 1440P gaming without spending $300 or more. It improves on Intel’s previous-generation Alchemist GPUs with key architectural changes, including a move to TSMC’s 5nm manufacturing process. The GPU also sports a sleek black dual-fan design that looks quite nice; however, the power consumption is quite high. We tested 187.1 watts under 4K gaming load, which nearly aligns with its 190W rating.

We’re happy to see that the power consumption numbers are better than the last generation; the card outdoes competing cards from AMD in power efficiency. However, Nvidia still remains the king in this department. In any case, it was nice to see that the cooling system of the card is quite capable; it kept the GPU under 70°C even when the power consumption nearly touched 190 watts!

Talking more specifically of its gaming performance, the card showed excellent numbers in our 1080P and 1440P gaming tests. Compared to the Radeon RX 7600 (XT), Nvidia’s RTX 4060, and Intel’s Arc A770, the card is top-scored (in average FPS) in three titles. Even in the remaining titles, it was not far behind the top-scoring GPU(s). 1440P gaming performance is even better: the Arc B580 card beat all the other cards in our list when we averaged its FPS output across the seven tests. However, you may find yourself needing to tone down the settings or use upscaling to maintain over 60 FPS in most titles.

Ray-tracing performance has improved, as the GPU outperformed the Arc A770 despite having fewer ray-tracing cores. It will require you to mix ray-tracing with upscaling in most titles, but that’s acceptable given this is a budget-oriented card. In Cyberpunk 2077, the card managed nearly 60 FPS on average, with ray-tracing set to high and FSR set to Quality.

The budget gaming GPU market really needed something new—something better—and Intel has delivered just that. Now, the ball is in AMD’s court (and Nvidia’s, too?) as they prepare to launch their next-generation cards. We’re hoping that this card’s entry into the market prompts the two giants to shift their focus a bit more toward their budget cards.

Mark Cerny Says PS5 Pro And PSSR Are A Preparation For Next-Gen Consoles

Story Highlight
  • Mark Cerny Says PS5 and PSSR are preparing them for next-gen consoles.
  • Machine learning and PSSR are expected to play a huge role in PlayStation 6.
  • PSSR currently needs a lot of polishing as it causes visual and performance glitches.

PlayStation 5 Pro has been quite underwhelming for the most part. There have been a few incremental upgrades but they don’t line up so well to be worth the upgrade. Even the PlayStation designer says that the PS5 Pro is a preparation for next-gen consoles.

Why it matters? The new stuff with the PS5 Pro especially PSSR already feels very experimental at this point. It’s currently causing major issues with games like compromised visuals, performance issues, and more.

Mark Cerny says that tech like machine learning and PSSR on PS5 Pro is preparing them for the next generation of consoles. By this, it seems like the PS5 Pro has been a big setup for the PS6, which will implement these things better.

It’s been great digging into M.L. aspects of this and gaining some knowledge there because we know that’s the future were heading into.

– Mark Cerny

However, while the PS5 Pro might not be too big of an update, it has its pros. Sony claimed it’s very easy to develop games for and a straightforward upgradability path. Also, there’s no denying that it’s currently the most powerful console of all time.

PS5 Pro
Cerny says that the PS5 Pro features are a path toward next-gen consoles

PSSR has been hit or miss in most cases, but the company has vowed to improve that as well. Sony has even stated that their upscaling tech will be at its best with the release of GTA 6.

Anyhow, for now, PSSR isn’t the best but recently in an interview with Tech4Gamers War Thunder developer said it’s on par with DLSS and XeSS as it has a lot of untapped potential.

  • However, in the latest interview with Tech4Gamers, the game’s community manager teased the patch.
  • He said ‘it’s something we’re looking into’ and that ‘it’s very possible.’

Tons of games have already been patched for the latest PS5 Pro. However, there are a lot of games that have not received any updates, and fans might wonder if they will ever be patched.

CDPR has confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 won’t be enhanced for the mid-gen refresh. While that is unfortunate for the Cyberpunk 2077 fans, V Rising fans might have something to look forward to.

The game’s community manager just recently teased a PS5 Pro patch, so it could be coming out soon.

Why it matters: The PS5 Pro offers significantly better visuals than the base console, which can clearly be seen in games like Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, so V Rising fans would really be excited about the patch, if there is any.

V Rising
A Massive Update For V Rising Is Set To Release Anytime In 2025

In a recent interview with Tech4Gamers, Jeremy Fielding, the community manager of V Rising, was asked if V Rising is being enhanced for the PlayStation 5 Pro. He didn’t say it is a sure case, but his answer does give a lot of hope to those who want to play the game on the latest mid-gen refresh.

This is a maybe! Funny you ask, it’s something we’re looking into. It’s very possible we’ll be able to make some improvements for it, and I think it would be a nice treat for people who happen to pick up a Pro.

-Jeremy Fielding

While Jeremy didn’t exactly confirm that the patch is in the works, he did say that it is very possible. So, fans can be optimistic but it would still be better to keep expectations in check

The community manager also had a lot to talk about the upcoming version 1.1. Its release date hasn’t been specified yet, but the developer aims to announce it in a few months.

On that note, what do you think about the game being potentially enhanced for the PS5 Pro? Are you excited about its upcoming massive update? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below, or join the discussion on the official Tech4Gamers forums.

Nintendo Switch Surpasses PlayStation 2 Sales In US

Story Highlight
  • Nintendo Switch has now surpassed PS2 sales in the US.
  • It is on track to become the best-selling console of all time.
  • Its successor is already in development and could be announced soon.

Having sold over 160 million units, PlayStation 2 is the most successful console in history. However, many still believe that the Nintendo Switch will eventually surpass the iconic console.

Although that milestone is still far away, Nintendo Switch continues to reach new levels of success. The handheld has just surpassed PlayStation 2 in the US.

Why it matters: This is a massive milestone for the Switch, as the US has been one of the biggest markets for PlayStation.

Switch Vs PS2 Sales In The US
Nintendo Switch Is On The Track To Become Best Selling Console of All Time

Just recently, a reliable industry analyst confirmed that Nintendo Switch has surpassed PlayStation 2 sales in the US.

Lifetime unit sales of Nintendo Switch have now exceeded those of PlayStation 2 in the U.S.

-Mat Piscatella

Switch has sold over 46.6 million units in the US, making it the second-best-selling video game hardware. However, the Nintendo DS holds the top spot at the moment.

While the Switch has achieved another milestone, its sales have been declining, perhaps because fans are leaning more toward its upcoming successor.

STALKER 2 Dev Has Already Recouped Development Cost In Less Than A Month

Story Highlight
  • Stalker 2 sold over 1 million copies in less than 48 hours despite being available on Xbox Game Pass.
  • Now, one of GSC Game World’s investors has revealed that the title has already recouped its development cost.
  • While he didn’t give an update on how many copies the game has sold, turning in profits in less than a month is quite an achievement.

Stalker 2, while being one of the best releases of 2024, was plagued with technical issues on launch. The game is still buggy, but it isn’t a Stalker game if it isn’t buggy (literally). Despite major technical issues, it became a commercial success for the developer as it managed to over 1 million copies in less than 48 hours.

Now, GSC Game World has confirmed that it managed to recoup the game’s development cost in less than a month

Why it matters: GSC Game World faced many hurdles in developing the highly anticipated sequel to Stalker. However, the delays seem to have been worth it, as the game has already become profitable.

Stalker 2
Stalker 2 Has Been Nominated In 3 Major Categories At Steam Game Awards

Speaking in an interview with Forbes Ukraine, Maksym Krippa, a GSC Game World investor, revealed that the title is now turning a profit.

The investor was asked about how many copies the game would need to sell in order for it to be profitable. To this, he simply replied, “We’ve already sold enough to make the project profitable.”

He was also asked about the development cost, but he didn’t give an accurate answer and just said it cost tens of millions of dollars. The investor also didn’t reveal how many copies the title has sold, but it has sold enough to turn in profit for the developer

That said, it is highly possible that Stalker 2 is close to selling 2 million copies and the developer is just waiting for it to reach it. That said, it is prety impressive for the tite to recoup the development cost in such a short amount of time.

This is because one of the most anticipated titles, Alan Wake 2, which is considered a tech marvel, wasn’t profitable for over a year.

The developer currently seems to have its hands full with the upcoming patches, so hopefully, it addresses all of the fans’ concerns.

What do you think of the title being profitable so early despite a backlash for being too buggy? Have you played the game yet? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below, or join the discussion at the official Tech4Gamers forums.

The Witcher 4 Potentially Skipping Xbox Series S Due To Hardware Limitations, CDPR Suggests

Story Highlight
  • The Witcher 4 will be a highly ambitious project.
  • CDPR has hinted that it may not support the Xbox Series S for this RPG.
  • The team’s ambitious visual target, combined with the taxing nature of Unreal Engine 5, may make it too difficult to support the game on Microsoft’s lower-end console.

CDPR’s work on The Witcher 4 is finally official after last week’s incredibly exciting reveal trailer. The team has also confirmed Ciri as the new face of the IP, marking the first step toward a trilogy based on the character.

Among other changes, The Witcher 4 is set to use Unreal Engine 5 for groundbreaking visuals that will make full use of future GPUs like the RTX 5090. Unfortunately, this choice might make the game a bit too ambitious for the Xbox Series S. During a recent interview, CDPR teased the decision to potentially skip this console.

Why it matters: The Witcher 4 seems to be targeting a new standard for gaming visuals, making it challenging to fit the game within the Xbox Series S’ limited hardware.

CDPR was recently asked about its thoughts on The Witcher 4 running on consoles like the Xbox Series S. Supporting the Xbox Series S is still mandatory for studios looking to launch games on Xbox, even if exceptions have been made in the past.

Anyhow, CDPR’s response doesn’t seem too encouraging. For starters, the developer failed to confirm whether it would support the budget Microsoft console directly. Moreover, director Sebastian Kalemba stated that he could not share any specifics on the matter.

I cannot, right now, tell you more specifics regarding that.

-Sebastian Kalemba

The most interesting element about this response is the fact that CDPR is well aware of the Xbox Series S’ capabilities. Both The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 have been updated for the console, so the team should have a decent grasp of Microsoft’s budget hardware.

This makes the response quite puzzling since one would expect CDPR to know whether its vision for The Witcher 4 would fit within the constraints of the Xbox Series S. One could even say that the hesitant response is not a great sign for those looking forward to playing The Witcher 4 on the Xbox Series S.

Another interesting element might be Microsoft’s decision to launch next-generation consoles much earlier than anticipated. If new Xbox hardware, rumored for 2026, is already available by the time The Witcher 4 arrives, skipping the Xbox Series S would be even more of an obvious move for CDPR.

In any case, the team does not sound too hopeful for now. What are your thoughts on CDPR’s response on the matter? Let us know in the comments, and share more thoughts on the Tech4Gamers Forums.
