Sony Acquisition of FromSoftware Looking More And More Likely!

Story Highlight
  • A certain number of Kadokawa employees are optimistic about the Sony buyout because they want to be under its leadership.
  • The employees also believe that Sony would get rid of the current president of the conglomerate after the buyout.
  • They are unsatisfied with the current leadership and think the acquisition of Sony is quite thrilling.

After the massive Microsoft acquisition of Activision Blizzard saga, the gaming industry is now facing another gargantuan merger. Rumors began a couple of weeks ago that suggested Sony was in talks with FromSoftware parent company Kadokawa for a buyout.

These were confirmed later on, causing a wave of extremely split reactions from the community and various analysts. However, it appears that a certain number of Kadokawa employees are quite thrilled about the merger with Sony instead of being wary—something that no one expected.

Why it matters: The reaction of the Kadokawa employees to the acquisition of Sony suggests that it will face little resistance from within both conglomerates. However, the antitrust regulators might still stop the buyout from happening.

Speaking in an interview with Automaton, economic analyst Takahiro Suzuki clarified that a certain number of Kadokawa employees want to be under Sony’s leadership. They are seemingly unsatisfied with the Natsuno administration and believe that Sony would lead them better.

The people around me are thrilled at the prospect of an acquisition by Sony. […] They expect that if Sony were to acquire the company, they would get rid of the president first.

The current Kadokawa president and CEO, Takeshi Natsuno, saw a lot of criticism after responding inappropriately to the cyberattack earlier this year. The fueled discontent after the crisis has made veteran Kadokawa employees want Sony’s leadership.
