Everyone Is Afraid of Being Crushed By GTA 6!

Story Highlight
  • A new report states publishers want to avoid releasing their games close to GTA 6.
  • They are currently awaiting confirmation of the Fall 2025 window.
  • The same report states that Rockstar Games has missed multiple deadlines, creating concerns of a potential delay into 2026.

GTA 6 has been missing in action since its debut trailer last year. The title is currently said to be targeting a Fall 2025 launch, but Rockstar Games has yet to comment on the matter officially.

A new report outlines concerns over the studio potentially missing this target but also shows the influence of GTA 6. As per a reliable source, publishers are cautiously waiting to see if the next Grand Theft Auto entry launches in Fall 2025 before moving forward with their plans.

Why it matters: GTA 6 is said to be the most important release for the entire industry. Therefore, major publishers are trying to make schedules that take this major release into account.

As per Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, Rockstar Games has already missed various internal deadlines. This suggests that a potential delay to 2026 is not off the table, but publishers aren’t willing to bet on this just yet.

The report highlights that various publishers may have held back release date announcements. This has been done in anticipation of an official GTA 6 reveal, allowing studios to avoid clashing with the launch in Fall 2025.

Xbox’s Matt Booty made similar claims in the past, so various games could be launched before Fall 2025 or after this period to avoid unnecessary competition with gaming’s biggest franchise.

The same report reveals other interesting information about Grand Theft Auto’s next entry, including a milder tone for the game. As per Jason Schreier, production also started after Red Dead Redemption 2 launched, giving the title about six years of production time so far.

What are your thoughts on publishers potentially avoiding Rockstar Games’ upcoming release? Do you think this much-anticipated release will crush the competition? Let’s discuss this in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.
