Former Resident Evil Director Furious Over Requiem Leaks, Wishes Leakers “A Thousand Deaths”

Story Highlight
  • Resident Evil Requiem physical copies were leaked ahead of the game’s launch.
  • Hideki Kamiya isn’t too pleased with the leakers and called them out in a new social media post.
  • He wishes them a “thousand deaths” and wishes that they may never play games again.

Just a couple of weeks before Resident Evil Requiem‘s launch, a few people managed to get their hands on the game’s physical copies, and chaos has now been unleashed all over the internet. Entire gameplay clips are being shared, and Capcom can do little for the damage control.

In fact, Hideki Kamiya, director of Resident Evil 2 and creator of the Devil May Cry series, voiced his frustration on the matter on social media. In fact, he even went as far as to wish a “thousand deaths” on the leakers and the people ruining the game for others.

Why it matters: No matter how publishers try, video games are susceptible to leaks, but this has gone too far. A similar situation happened with Assassin’s Creed: Shadows last year, and it damaged much of the developers’ work, which had taken years to create.

Above is Hideki Kamiya’s message to the leakers, translated from Japanese into English. He recalls a magazine leaking the plot of Resident Evil 2 (called Biohazard 2 in Japan) ahead of the game’s launch.

He says that he abhors such people and calls this a “detestable act that destroys everyone’s happiness” and the developers’ who pour everything into making the game.

May you be cursed to never play games again…

Capcom is doing its best to calm the situation and prevent leaks from spoiling many gamers. The publisher’s legal department is taking down leakers and deleting any video clips posted ahead of launch, but they can only do so much.

We advise skipping any leaks for Resident Evil Requiem to avoid spoiling yourself. The game is just a week away from launch now, so the wait is about to end. In the meantime, publicly available information about the game reveals its length is twice that of Resident Evil 8 and has a much lower horror emphasis than the 7th entry.

Phil Spencer Allegedly Forced to Retire Early as Xbox CEO, with Sarah Bond Originally Set to Succeed Him

Story Highlight
  • Insider claims Phil Spencer was forced to retire earlier than he planned to.
  • Initially, Sarah Bond was set to replace Phil as Xbox’s new CEO.
  • Both of these executives left their positions because of the gaming division’s poor performance last year.

Yesterday, Xbox CEO Phil Spencer announced that he’ll be stepping down from his role after dedicating 38 years of his life to the gaming giant. In a new message shared publicly, Phil said he had been thinking about retiring for nearly a year now.

However, that apparently wasn’t the case, according to a new report, which suggests that Phil originally intended to retire after the release of the next-gen Xbox and is now being forced out of his role early due to last year’s underperformance for the gaming division.

Why it matters: It seems like Xbox is set to enter a new generation with a major shift from its past strategy, and as such, the older leadership being part of this change wouldn’t be a good fit.

Microsoft Is Shaking Up Xbox Leadership Following A Rough Last Year || X

On social media, reliable insider Ghost of Hope stated that Phil was originally supposed to step down from his CEO role after the release of the next-gen Xbox. Sarah Bond would’ve succeeded Phil as the new CEO, but unfortunately, she too has retired from her previous role as President of Xbox.

Now, Asha Sharma has been named the new CEO for Xbox. She was previously part of Microsoft’s CoreAI Products team and has been with Microsoft for just 2 years, with no experience in gaming. Meanwhile, Matt Booty has been promoted to Executive Vice President (EVP) and Chief Content Officer and will report to Asha.

Asha Sharma Has Tons Of Experience In AI But Not In Gaming

As for why these older executives are stepping down, well, 2025 was rock bottom for Microsoft’s gaming divisions. None of their first-party games had the impact they expected, and hardware sales also fell to an all-time low. The only surviving pillar, Game Pass, also experienced a steep fall.

Saints Row Creator Calls the IP “Pretty Much Dead” After Embracer Ghosted His 1970s Prequel Pitch

Story Highlight
  • Chris Stockman, the creator of Saints Row, says that Embracer has ghosted his pitch for a new game.
  • The pitch was for a sequel set in the 1970s, exploring the origin of the gang.
  • Unfortunately, the 2022 reboot has caused so much damage to the IP that it’s now considered dead.

Saints Row was originally intended to be an over-the-top satirical take on the open-world GTA formula, but unfortunately, the series has strayed away from its original concept over the past few years.

2022’s Saints Row, meant to reboot the series, turned out to be the final nail in the franchise’s coffin. Unfortunately, it has caused so much damage to the IP that it may now be considered pretty much dead.

Why it matters: Saints Row was the closest thing gamers could find to GTA. The series was amazing and one of the most unique games on the market, but unfortunately, it hasn’t been good for years and is unlikely to ever bounce back.

Chris Stockman, the creator of Saints Row, previously revealed last year that he was asked by the IP owner, Embracer Group, to develop a pitch for a new game. Unfortunately, he now says he’s been ghosted by Embracer and that they have “zero ability” to do anything about it going forward.

Regarding the said pitch, we already have a few details regarding the game. It would’ve been a prequel set in the 1970s, exploring the origin of the gang. The creator even expressed that he’d round up the developers from the first Saints Row game to work on this prequel.

Chris didn’t even think the 2022 reboot was a good idea in the first place and instead wanted a sequel. Had Embracer gone with his vision, things would probably be different.

Unfortunately, the studio behind the IP, Volition Games, has now been shut down due to poor commercial performance.

New Xbox Head Assures That Their Games Won’t Be “Soulless AI Slop” Despite Her Background

Story Highlight
  • New Xbox head says they are committed to hand-crafted and creative games.
  • Despite her background, she says that their games won’t be soulless AI slop.
  • They are committed to a long-term plan, and this will require a lot of patience.

Microsoft just appointed a new head for its gaming department after Phil Spencer retired from the company. She has deep roots in the AI scene and no gaming background, which has led to a lot of concerns about Xbox’s future.

However, the new head has assured fans that she is really committed to the role, and despite her background, their games won’t be “soulless AI slop”, instead they’ll always be an art and will be crafted by humans

Why it matters: In the era of the AI boom, and especially when many studios have made the tech a central part of their game development, it is a relief to find out that the new Xbox head is preferring human touch.

Sharma penned a note explaining her vision for Xbox. She wrote that they will not chase short-term efficiency or flood the Xbox ecosystem with soulless AI slop, instead they’ll focus on innovation through human craft.

We will not chase short-term efficiency or flood our ecosystem with soulless AI slop. Games are and always will be art, crafted by humans and with the most innovative technology provided by us.

Xbox won’t chase short-term goals by monetizing and milking IPs

She also mentioned three points that she’ll focus on as the head of Xbox. First, great games, the return of Xbox to the mainstream, after it lost its way, and the reinvention of play through new business models.

Additionally, the company won’t make static IPs to milk and monetize the players. This will be a long-term thing, so it’ll need patience from the players and the studios, but this is the start of something new at Xbox.

Xbox’s New Boss Has Deep AI Roots — But No Gaming Experience

Story Highlight
  • Phil Spencer just retired and has been replaced by Microsoft’s former AI executive.
  • Despite having extensive AI knowledge, she doesn’t have any prior experience.
  • This has made fans skeptical, and Sharma will have to prove a lot in the long term.

Xbox just marked a huge shift in its leadership with Phil Spencer retiring as the head after 12 years, and Sarah Bond also leaving. Amid this, the total control of the gaming division will be held by Matt Booty and the newly appointed Asha Sharma.

Phil Spencer hadn’t been meeting the expectations for a long time now, but fans are even more skeptical about the new head based on her profile. She has extensive roots in AI, but no gaming experience.

Why it matters: Appointing someone who hasn’t had any gaming experience as the head of Microsoft’s gaming division doesn’t seem like the right move on paper, but it’s currently too soon to judge.

Asha Sharma
Ashma Sharma has extensive AI roots, but no gaming experience

Asha Sharma joined Microsoft in 2024 from Instacart. Since then, she has been serving as the President of product in the company’s core AI business. So, she has deep roots with AI, but nothing related to gaming.

Now, she has been working with Phil Spencer for a few months, so she must be well-versed with the company’s models now. Nonetheless, fans won’t really be satisfied until they see results, which obviously will take time.

Phil Retires
She has taken over from Phil, who has retired after 38 years at Xbox

Asha has committed to a lot of promising things. She notes that they aim to introduce new business models that will reinvent games, help Xbox reach its lost heights, and go out of the box and take risks.

Phil Spencer Has Officially Retired From Xbox After Being At The Company for 38 Years

Story Highlight
  • Phil Spencer is retiring from Xbox after a whopping 38 years at the company.
  • He had been serving as the president and CEO of Microsoft Gaming for many years.
  • Phil’s position will be occupied by a former AI executive, Asha Sharma.

It is no big secret that Xbox has been struggling in the industry lately. Faltering sales this generation almost totally killed off its hardware, and now there has been a massive shakeup in the company’s leadership.

In a very shocking move, Phil Spencer has retired from Xbox after being there for 38 years and almost 12 years as the head of Microsoft’s gaming division. He will be replaced by a former AI Executive, Asha Sharma.

Why it matters: This is a huge shakeup that nobody really saw coming. It will be really interesting to see how Xbox operates from here, considering that, despite the ups and downs, Phil was instrumental for the company.

Phil Spencer has officially retired from Xbox after 38 years

Phil Spencer penned a note revealing that he had been thinking of stepping down since last year. He further says that working with Sharma over the past few months has given him a lot of confidence that she is the right person for the job.

Additionally, Sarah Bond is also leaving Microsoft, handing full control to Matt Booty and Asha Sharma. The latter of whom says in her note that she is committed to great games, return of Xbox, and future play.

New Xbox CEO says she is committed to making the company great again

While it is too early to judge, people are skeptical about her appointment, considering she doesn’t have any previous gaming experience. Nonetheless, this is the start of a new chapter for Xbox, and we hope it goes well for them.

Lords of the Fallen Studio Welcomes Laid-Off Employees Following Bluepoint Games’ Closure

Story Highlight
  • The CEO of CI Games is asking the affected developers from Bluepoint Games’ shutdown to join them.
  • He also complimented Demon’s Souls remake and said that he’d love to have that talent onboard.
  • They’re currently working on a Lords of the Fallen sequel and other projects.

Just 5 years after acquiring Bluepoint Games, Sony is now shutting down the Demon’s Souls and Shadow of Colossus remake creator next month. The publisher argues that this decision wasn’t made lightly and was a result of their industry’s challenging state.

Around 70 of the industry’s most talented developers will now be left jobless. Fortunately, CI Games, the developer behind Lords of the Fallen, is now offering roles to those impacted by Bluepoint Games’ closure.

Why it matters: With such negativity and toxicity surrounding the gaming industry in recent times, it’s nice to see a positive change as fellow developers reach out to support their peers.

On social media, Marek Tyminski, CEO and founder of CI Games, announced that he’s inviting laid-off developers from Bluepoint Games to join them on the development of the Lords of the Fallen sequel and other projects.

He further complimented the studio’s work on the Demon’s Souls remake and said that they would be honored to bring the same talent to their company.

The first Lords of the Fallen title was a massive success, and now, the studio has secured a capital raise, which implies that the sequel won’t be tied to just the Epic Games Launcher now. It is also expected to feature fan service, good-looking female characters, and a much darker aesthetic now.

Cancelled God of War Multiplayer
The Cancelled Live-Service God of War Game Was Set Between The Events Of The Third Game And Before The Reboot

As for Bluepoint Games, it’s a missed opportunity for Sony to explore more remakes. The studio never really had a chance to showcase its true capabilities under Team Blue. For this generation, they were practically neglected, especially after it was handed a God of War live-service game that eventually got shelved.

Moreover, the studio had been pitching new remakes and ideas for the past year, but it seems none of them got approved. Last year, we found that the studio was working on a third-person melee game, but unfortunately, that’s seemingly shelved as well.

Shutting Down Bluepoint Games Is A Huge Mistake From Sony

Story Highlight
  • PlayStation recently shut down Bluepoint Games despite the studio’s prestige and quality releases.
  • The closure comes across as unfair because the studio was forced to pursue a live-service project outside of its usual expertise.
  • The team could have been vital to PlayStation for its remakes in the coming years, especially with IPs like Infamous and Killzone lying dormant.

Studio closures, layoffs, and cancellations have unfortunately become the norm in the gaming industry today. The latest team to be buried under the load of gaming’s never-ending challenges is Bluepoint Games, Sony’s talented team acquired in 2021.

This studio, credited for Demon’s Souls Remakes and various other re-releases, was suddenly shut down earlier today. After a botched live-service attempt at a God of War title that the studio likely never wanted to work on to begin with, Sony has decided to completely seal the team’s fate.

Like many others, this decision has left me gutted and heartbroken. After all, Bluepoint Games was among Sony’s best first-party teams, and it had a clear purpose moving forward. In my opinion, this decision will eventually come back to bite Sony.

Why it matters: PlayStation already wasted the team’s true potential when it assigned a live-service project to the studio. The current decision means that Bluepoint Games will never be able to bounce back from this misstep.

Bluepoint Games’ Remasters and Remakes

As a quick recap, Bluepoint Games most recently worked on Demon’s Souls Remake, the divisive yet popular remake of FromSoftware’s first Souls-like hit.

Before this remake, the team brought Shadow of the Colossus to life with a PS4 remake, and going even further back, this studio worked on remasters of the Uncharted trilogy and the first two God of War titles.

Not that it needs to be proven, but Bluepoint Games’ pedigree for re-releases is highlighted further in its work on the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection for the PS3. As such, the team’s work speaks for itself.

Very few teams have the experience that Bluepoint Games has with remakes and remasters today. The developer also had a long relationship with PlayStation, dating back over two decades, which was why the acquisition felt like a natural progression.

The Current Era of Remakes

virtous games
Ambitious Remakes And Remasters Are Everywhere Right Now

The modern gaming landscape has popularized remakes to a point where practically everyone is trying to get in on the action. Whether it be Capcom’s fantastic Resident Evil remakes or Konami’s recent work on Silent Hill 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3, big-budget re-releases are everywhere.

Even EA remade Dead Space, and Xbox is gearing up to launch Halo: Campaign Evolved later this year. As for PlayStation, the gaming giant clearly understands the demand for remakes, leading to the announcement of the God of War Trilogy remake.

What baffles me about Bluepoint Games’ closure, then, is the fact that this very team would have been a perfect fit for PlayStation’s remake strategy. No other studio under PlayStation understands remakes quite like Bluepoint Games.

Moreover, the team has experience working with all sorts of legacy Sony IPs already. It’s also worth noting that Bluepoint Games’ technical finesse is almost in a league of its own, with Demon’s Souls Remake still being one of this generation’s best-looking titles.

PlayStation already has a backlog of IPs like Infamous, Motorstorm, and Killzone. What better studio to bring these franchises back with the remake treatment than Bluepoint Games?

In my opinion, what happened to this team is a true shame, and PlayStation has practically handicapped its own remake potential with this decision.

The Consequences of Live-Service

PlayStation Live Service
PlayStation’s Live Service Plans Continue To Be A Problem

The truth is that Bluepoint Games’ closure is a reflection of Sony’s failure itself. What began as an ambitious push for live-service games from PlayStation has led to the industry losing one of its best teams.

It also reflects poorly on the current management within Sony, with the executives offering nothing but generic excuses to cover for their failure.

Perhaps the developers from Bluepoint Games will come together under a different name in the future. It would truly be a shame to see them being disbanded so soon, especially with the passion and excitement around remakes being as high as it is today.

Two Far Cry Games And Multiple Assassin’s Creed Entries Are In The Works, Confirms Ubisoft

Story Highlight
  • Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot says that two Far Cry titles and various Assassin’s Creed games are in development.
  • For Assassin’s Creed, the studio is working on both multiplayer and single-player content.
  • This confirmation comes following Ubisoft’s aim to make these franchises worth a billion dollars annually.

Ubisoft continues to weather the storm of its ongoing financial turmoil following the cancellation of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake. The French gaming giant now hopes to use its flagship IPs, Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, etc., to bounce back.

In a new interview, the studio laid out its plans for the future of the aforementioned IPs. According to Ubisoft, various new entries are in the works for both series.

Why it matters: Far Cry and Assassin’s Creed have always been among the pillars of the open-world games genre, making them the most prominent IPs under Ubisoft’s umbrella today.

Assassin’s Creed Is Still A Huge Focus For The Company

Speaking to Variety, CEO Yves Guillemot noted that the team is currently working on two brand new Far Cry titles.

If rumors are to be believed, these two games are Project Blackbird and Project Maverick, with the former being Far Cry 7 and the latter being a multiplayer spin-off. The French gaming giant did not go into too many details regarding Far Cry, but it did hint at the future of Assassin’s Creed in the same interview.

As per Ubisoft, several new titles for the IP are currently in the works, including those belonging to single-player and multiplayer genres. Among these titles, Assassin’s Creed Hexe and Black Flag Remake are already known.

The multiplayer Assassin’s Creed Invictus is also no secret, so Ubisoft’s statement suggests that all projects are moving forward in development. Of course, it’s also possible that the team is working on other entries that have yet to be announced.

Moving forward, the French publisher will aim to go all in on these IPs. This could also lead to a few experimental spin-offs for the franchises, appealing to fans who may not necessarily enjoy the vanilla experience.

Study Shows AAA Games Are Losing Ground Among The Youth to Adult Content, Gambling and Doomscrolling

Story Highlight
  • New study shows that the AAA game market is losing younger audiences to gambling, adult content, and doomscrolling.
  • Figures show an increase in social media usage, adult content spending, and betting.
  • Given the stale state of AAA gaming, the future market for this sector is uncertain, as AA and indie titles continue to outperform.

The video game market is seemingly faltering due to rising hardware costs and the industry’s dire state, particularly because of poor recent AAA and live-service releases.

Specifically for AAA games, the once-blooming market is now withering, but the root cause is different: younger audiences are now falling victim to habits like doomscrolling, watching adult content, and gambling.

Why it matters: The recent rise of short-form content on the internet has caused a massive shift in the youth’s attention span.

survey showing gaming time
Survey Shows Players Spending Less Time Gaming || Matthew Ball

Matthew Ball, a video game analyst, recently published a study on the 2026 state of the gaming industry, and the results were disappointing.

Instead of AAA games, younger audiences are now dedicating their free time to watching adult content, sports betting, and doomscrolling on social media apps like TikTok and YouTube.

For reference, Americans now spend 112 million more hours on social media compared to 2020 and 2021. For OnlyFans, Americans are spending the most of any country, accounting for nearly $5 billion of the total estimated $7.9 billion.

On the other hand, crypto trading is still considered a trend, and the rise of AI apps has led to 1 billion installs in the last quarter. Kalshi and Polymarket are the top betting platforms, and in Q4, users placed 1.5 million bets per day across all platforms.

Black Ops 7
Microtransaction elements in video games are considered gambling in certain instances, and companies are using these tactics to further drain players’ wallets

The research considers all of this to be interactive entertainment, and the study provides additional data showing that youth are drawn away from gaming toward other addictive forms of content.

The only growth in gaming is in China and on Roblox, which will continue to rise as existing live-service games take up a major share of the market, leaving little room for newer titles.

Recent AAA and AAAA releases haven’t been well received, and with fatigue settling in the market due to homogeneous and poor releases, gamers will obviously be diverted towards other forms of entertainment. However, if anything, the recent rise in AA and indie games is a testament that bigger budget games aren’t the future anymore.

NVIDIA RTX 5090 Ti Engineering Sample Leaks — Massive Performance, 750W & Limited Launch Expected

Story Highlight
  • Nvidia is developing an RTX 5090 Ti to surpass its current flagship, despite lacking direct competition from other manufacturers.
  • The new model may feature roughly 5% more CUDA cores than the standard 5090, using a modified GB202 chip.
  • Power requirements are expected to be massive, with estimates ranging from 700W to 750W, and some prototypes reportedly drawing even more.

For more than a year, the RTX 5090 has been the most powerful card. While it has no competition from AMD or Intel, NVIDIA isn’t satisfied with only this top-tier card; an even more powerful version is on the way. NVIDIA has now confirmed it is building an RTX 5090 Ti, with details on its possible performance, high power consumption, and release date revealed.

The Blackwell architecture of the RTX 50 series brought few changes or enhancements over the RTX 40 series, and the only new feature was Multi Frame Generation (MFG). Beyond that, we saw a performance boost that corresponded to increased power consumption; that is, we gained up to 30% more performance with the RTX 5090 at the cost of consuming 125W more than the RTX 4090.

A week ago, we learned that NVIDIA would not be satisfied with the RTX 5090 as the most powerful card and would instead release the RTX 5090 Ti in the second half of 2026. According to Moore’s Law Is Dead, Nvidia has been testing the RTX 5090 Ti, also known as the Blackwell Titan, since the first half of 2025.

If this is true, it means it has been part of the company’s plans from the beginning, and we now have a more precise estimate of its performance, power consumption, and even its expected release date. Regarding its features, it is stated that it would use a reduced GB202 chip, giving it 5% more CUDA Cores than the RTX 5090, meaning 17,152 or 17,216 CUDA Cores, which falls within that range.

In terms of power consumption, the next RTX 5090 Ti is a true beast, with speculations of a TDP of 700 to 750W, which is an additional 100-150W on top of the already powerful RTX 5090. The 750W figure would be the minimum, although there were unlocked prototypes that consumed more than 1000W.

RTX 5090 Is Only 20% Faster Than RTX 4090

While we don’t have actual photographs of the RTX 5090 Ti, someone who tried it last year stated that it was massive and required “both hands to hold it.” Just thinking about the air cooling system required to handle such high power usage gives you an idea. With its high power consumption and minor increase in core count, the RTX 5090 Ti could provide up to 10% more performance than the RTX 5090 at its basic TDP.

It may seem like a minor improvement for a graphics card with the Ti or TITAN name, but the final version is expected to outperform the RTX 5090 by 15-20%. We’ve previously seen that graphics cards like the Blackwell RTX 6000, despite having many more cores (24,064 CUDA cores), aren’t considerably faster in gaming than the RTX 5090, so this Ti or TITAN should lie somewhere in the middle or be somewhat faster in games due to its higher clock speed. It is expected to be released in the third quarter of 2026, or by the end of the current year.
