Ubisoft Aims To Make Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry and Rainbow Six “Annual Billionare Brands”

The Company Is Going Through A Major Restructuring!

Story Highlight
  • Ubisoft says it wants to make its major franchises annual billion-dollar brands.
  • This seems too ambitious considering the mediocre performance in the last few years.
  • The studio has just cancelled Sands of Time Remake and another 5 games.

Ubisoft is fresh from cancelling the much-anticipated Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake after so much wait and speculation. The French giant is going through a major restructuring and has also set a new target for its flagship franchises.

Now, according to the same document that revealed the game Prince of Persia Remake cancellation, Ubisoft aims to make its major franchises: Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six, “annual billionare brands”.

Why it matters: This seems rather ambitious, as none of Ubisoft’s franchises have even come close to generating this much profit in many years since their release, let alone every year.

The studio wants to make its major franchise annual billionare brands

The document explicitly states that Vantage Studio, its subsidiary with Tencent, is focused on extending and scaling established franchises to turn into annual-billion Dollar brands, so it must be planning something big for them.

Based on a report from last year, Assassin’s Creed, which undoubtedly is Ubisoft’s most successful franchise, managed about $4 billion in revenue in the last decade, which is way less than what the studio aims for in the future.

Assassin's Creed Shadows
The Assassin’s Creed franchise hasn’t been too successful for the last few years

The case is similar with both of the other major franchises as well. The Assassin’s Creed brand hasn’t been the same for the past few years, and its fan following has rapidly declined, so Ubisoft will have to fix that.

The studio is in a strange spot now, having canceled 6 games and delayed another 7 to enhance quality. There will also be another round of additional layoffs, after over 150 people already lost their jobs in 2026 alone.
