Concord developers received a commemorative plaque celebrating the launch of the game last year.
One such plaque has been put up for auction, with the highest bid currently standing at over $2500.
The bidding period ends in five days, so the price is expected to rise further.
Over a full year after it was shut down, Concord remains one of gaming’s biggest failures. The PlayStation live-service title cost millions of dollars and was expected to stay up for several years as an ongoing release.
Despite this failure, it seems someone is willing to pay as much as $2500 for an exclusive Concord plaque.
Why it matters: The game’s support was cut short in record time, leading to Concord and its studio being shut down weeks after its release. Therefore, it comes as a surprise that an item related to this title is fetching such a price.
Concord Exclusive Plaque Up On Auction | Image via Goodwill
For context, these plaques were given to developers of Firewalk Studios as part of Concord’s release celebration. As per the listing, this particular plaque belonged to Chelsea Grace, a member of Firewalk Studios’ art team.
The plaque has been put on auction on Goodwill and has already received a bid as high as $2,526. Although this price is already quite high, the bidding period will last over the next five days, so an even higher final price is expected.
The person who ends up winning the bid will also receive a Concord disc alongside the plaque, but the disc itself will be of little use now that the game has been pulled offline.
Because collectors typically agree to pay exorbitant prices for rare items, the Concord plaque will likely fetch quite a high price once all is said and done.
Concord has hurt the reputation of Sony’s live-service push
At the time of writing, it remains unclear whether developer Chelsea Grace herself is responsible for this auction.
Even with Concord failing as badly as it did, many Firewalk Studios developers expressed a sense of pride in their work, so it would be odd to see them getting rid of a commemorative item like this so soon.
What are your thoughts on the auction? Do you think a price this high is justified for an item related to Concord? Let’s discuss this in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 producer François Meurisse claims that Sandfall Interactive will continue to have a small team of developers.
So, fewer than 50 people on board would focus on the studio’s next project, which also includes a sequel to the successful RPG.
The producer argues that many games, including Half-Life 2 and Zelda: Ocarina of Time, have thrived with small teams.
So, producer Francois Meurisse says that Sandfall Interactive will continue to have a small yet talented team for its future projects, including a Clair Obscur sequel. The studio will avoid growing and stick with fewer than 50 people because of its significant benefits.
Why it matters: Clair Obscur’s success proves small, cohesive teams can outperform bloated studios.
Clair Obscur’s studio wants to keep a small team moving forward.
In an interview with GamesIndustry, the game’s producer said Sandfall wants to keep the agility and creativity of a small, passionate team for future projects.
For now, our vision would be to stick to a close team working in the same city with less than 50 people on board, focusing on one project after another.
Francois Meurisse highlights that some of the best games in the industry were crafted by a small group, including Half-Life 2 and Zelda: Ocarina of Time. That kind of size just allows the studio to focus on creativity, good decisions, and smooth communication.
We want to keep the organisation that made us successful.
Do you think Sandfall Interactive will be able to maintain a tight-knit, small team of developers instead of expanding for future projects? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Shuhei Yoshida, the former president of SIE, reveals that Subscription Services like Game Pass are hazardous.
He thinks that big companies can dictate the ideas of a game only if they provide a subscription platform.
Even though the developer was pretty small, that didn’t happen with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
Subscription services in the video game industry are very popular. However, as much as they are popular, they are hated by a massive fandom, too. That is because console manufacturers charge their consumers money to enable them to play online.
One of the most popular figures in the gaming industry, Shuhei Yoshida, recently discussed why subscription services can be dangerous. Yoshida said that playing games through only subscription services can be very harmful to the developers.
Why it matters: Yoshida is targeting Xbox here as the gaming giant is releasing almost every single one of its games to the subscription service.
Speaking to Game Developers at Gamescom LATAM, Shuhei Yoshida says that the rise of subscription services can be perilous, but at the same time says Sony has delivered a healthier subscription model, which almost doesn’t make sense given the fandom thinks opposite, but if you are aware who Yoshida is, this statement would make total sense.
For those unaware, Yoshida is the former boss of PlayStation, so the bias is pretty clear here.
If the only way for people to play games is through subscriptions that’s really dangerous, because what [type] of games can be created will be dictated by the owner of the subscription services.
-Shuhei Yoshida
Yoshida further says this is risky because small developers’ ideas must be implemented into video games. He says that if the big companies dictate what games can be created, the industry won’t advance.
While Shuhei Yoshida is a legendary figure in the gaming industry, his statements seem a bit unclear. If a game is being released on Xbox’s subscription, that doesn’t mean that Xbox is dictating the type of game the developers will make.
Also, regarding the statement that this can be harmful for the developers, it depends on the game. Doom: The Dark Ages didn’t perform well on any of the platforms, but most players gave it a try on the Game Pass and didn’t like it very much.
If the game had been good and not involved in any controversy, it would have sold just like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. So, Game Pass doesn’t hurt a game’s sales; it gives players an additional option.
What do you think about the statements made by Shuhei Yoshida? Do you agree with him? Share your thoughts with us in the comments section below or join the official Tech4Gamers forums for discussion.

CDPR was asked if Witcher 4’s development cycle is a good indicator of when Cyberpunk 2 is expected.
According to them, each title takes around 4-5 years to develop from their pre-production phase.
As such, Cyberpunk 2 is expected to release between 2029 and 2030.
Project Orion has finally entered pre-production, and we may already have the official title for the sequel, as CDPR is now referring to the project as simply Cyberpunk 2.
The studio currently has its hands full with Witcher 4, and Cyberpunk 2 isn’t coming out anytime soon. However, as per the development cycle from pre-production to final release, Cyberpunk 2 isn’t expected until after 2029.
Why it matters: Cyberpunk 2077 has had the biggest redemption arc in gaming history, solidifying its status as one of the greatest RPGs. A sequel is highly anticipated, and fans will now have an idea of when to expect the next entry.
In their latest investor call, CDPR was asked whether Witcher 4’s development cycle from pre-production in 2022 to its scheduled release in 2027 was a good indicator of when to expect Cyberpunk 2’s release.
The studio’s Co-CEO, Michał Nowakowski, replied with the following statement:
Our journey from the pre-production to the final release date takes four to five years on average
Cyberpunk 2 officially entered pre-production just recently, which implies that the title is expected to be released during 2029-2030 based on CDPR’s 4-5 years of development cycle.
However, the CEO did add that each project is unique and has variables to consider, so the final outcome cannot be decided.
3 Witcher Projects Are Underway, Including A Fourth Entry, A Remake, And A Spin-off Multiplayer
From the scarce details we know, Cyberpunk 2 will be on an even bigger scale than the first title. Job listings suggest it will feature the most realistic NPC crowds to date. Moreover, multiplayer will be added to the project, including a brand new city of Chicago, with Night City possibly returning.
Even with all these features, 4-5 years of development for Cyberpunk 2 seems reasonable enough. Moreover, the studio has also changed the development procedure for its games after the disastrous launch of Cyberpunk 2077. Therefore, the sequel will launch in a much better state, as the developers themselves have promised.

EA reportedly plans to lay off 400 employees.
Codemasters will also shut down its main headquarters and relocate its workers to other projects, such as EA Sports F1 and a new Need for Speed title.
Going forward, the publisher will streamline its focus on just a handful of franchises.
Update: An EA spokesperson has now reached out to clarify the situation regarding the shutdown of Codemasters’ main headquarters. They stated:
The speculation around Codemasters is entirely unfounded and inaccurate
The original report follows:
Just recently, one of the most disappointing news of this year struck that EA has decided to cancel the Black Panther game and shut down Cliffhanger Studios.
This may not be the last we hear from EA. A new report reveals that the publisher will soon lay off approximately 400 employees, including closing Codemasters’ main headquarters.
Why it matters: Layoffs are never a good sign, and the gaming industry is in its worst state ever despite its tremendous growth over the past few years.
Insider Suggests EA Has More Disappointing News To Reveal || Source: Social Media
Extas1s, a reputable insider with a solid track record of verified information, recently made this claim. According to the insider, the employees affected by the Codemaster’s headquarters shutdown will be transferred to EA Sports F1 and a new Need For Speed game that is currently under development.
For those unfamiliar, Codemasters is one of the oldest studios under EA and is credited with developing titles like Dirt and Grid games. It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything major from the studio, and unfortunately, we may never get to do it again.
This will be EA’s second round of layoffs this year, and it seems that no studio is immune to such practices. Just recently, Respawn Entertainment, one of the most successful studios under EA, faced a tremendous layoff that even resulted in the cancellation of an extraction-based Titanfall game.
Gaming companies have laid off more than 25,000 employees from 2023 to 2024.
EA Entertainment president Laura Miele said the company will streamline its focus to just a handful of franchises. As such, only expect focus on IPs like Battlefield, Sims, and Apex Legends.
This also dismisses the case of a new Star Wars Battlefront game. The campaign for a threequel has gathered over 10k signatures, but it seems that the corporate side is too blind to see what fans want and will instead do what they think is best, just as they did with Dragon Age Veilguard.
Limiting RGB has helped me focus better on the screen, as light hitting my eye’s corner became too distracting.
It comes with a 10%-30% increase in cost, which you could be investing in getting better components for higher performance instead.
Syncing all RGB products, especially if they aren’t from the same brand, rarely goes perfectly despite the long hassle.
I used to be obsessed with RGB lighting, and I needed my entire setup to be rigged with all sorts of RGB lighting, be it in my keyboard, mouse, PC case fans, RAM, or even behind my monitor for aesthetics.
RGB PC Setup (Image Credits – SignalRGB)
But over time, the RGB lighting proved to be more distracting than pleasing to my eye, especially when it comes to working on my PC. So, I decided to limit my RGB use, which has improved my productivity and focus.
Distracting
One major downside that no one talks about is that flashing lights, even subtle ones, can be distracting. There have been times when the lights and even reflections hitting from the corner of my eyes pulled me out of my zone.
I found that while using my PC, I could focus way more when there weren’t any lights or reflections other than my monitor. Even the smallest RGB from my PC case fans became annoying to me.
Reduced Focus
This is why people use blinds in their rooms: to avoid even the smallest reflections hitting their monitor’s screen. If light and RGB from your setup hinder your productivity without you knowing it, you should also consider limiting them.
Way Too Distracting (Image Credits – Pinterest)
I tried using an RGB strip across my PC or behind my monitor, only to find that it doesn’t evenly spread the light. So, I prefer neon rope light instead, but it still distracts you from the monitor’s screen, so it defeats the purpose.
RGB In Peripherals Isn’t Necessary
Also, RGB in peripherals for users like me becomes problematic. The constant RGB leaking from the keyboard and mouse is way distracting, especially when you have to focus on something on your monitor.
Moreover, using RGB on wireless peripherals is unnecessary, because not only is it distracting but it also consumes way too much battery life that you’ll end up feeling that you’re charging them all day.
RGB In Peripherals (Image Credits – The Gaming Stuff)
PC Case Is Best Kept Minimal
I even get annoyed by the RGB lighting leaking from my PC case and the tempered glass. This is why I use a minimalistic PC case with no RGB inside. While RGB fans look appealing, I don’t care for them either.
It is also better to place your PC case on the ground because I don’t like the fancy lights and equipment being showcased. I prefer the clean desk look, where my PC’s performance does the talking, not the lighting.
Increased Cost
Cost is another huge factor. Instead of paying for the visuals, you could be paying to get better performance. Typically, RGB components cost around 10%-30% more than non-RGB variants.
Instead of paying for the RGB, you could be getting a better SSD, a higher-end GPU, more RAM, or even better airflow. Most people who resort to the hype end up with visually appealing but lower-performing PC components, which drain their budget.
Software & Synching Hassle
Then there’s the software aspect. If you have components from different brands, you need to sync them using various software. This means that GPU lighting, fan hub, RAM, and motherboard RGB all need to be adjusted separately.
This is a plain hassle because syncing everything rarely works perfectly, which feels chaotic and time-consuming. You could counter that by having all peripherals and components from one brand, but another, easier way is to ditch RGB entirely.
Unsynced RGB (Image Credits – Corsair)
Downgrade?
By doing this, it didn’t feel like a downgrade to me. In a way, it felt like a complete upgrade because I moved from the vibrant setup to a more minimalist one. I believe that over the years, people do move to a mature setup.
I started focusing more on simplicity by removing added objects and lighting from my setup and focused more on ergonomics, better audio quality and comfort instead.
This doesn’t mean that I don’t have love for RGB. In fact, I love to see it on other people’s setups. But personally, I love colours and RGB as long as they are on my monitor, which is why I prefer OLED monitors.
Minimalist PC Setup (Image Credits – Pinterest)
Verdict
These are all strictly my personal opinions, and you’re free to disagree. I can’t help but be distracted by even a tinge of light in my peripheral vision, and I envy people who can easily use RGB while maintaining their focus.

Gaming laptops don’t perform as well as gaming PCs despite having the exact specifications because of their compact components.
They also tend to have thermal throttling issues, poor battery life even in new models, and a lack of upgradability compared to PCs.
You also get all of these issues at a much greater price when compared to desktop PCs.
For many years, gaming laptops were the best choice for people who preferred portability. Sure, they are portable, but if portability isn’t the only thing you’re looking for, gaming laptops have more downsides than advantages.
Gaming Laptops (Image Credits – Asus)
Drawbacks Of A Gaming Laptop
Firstly, having a gaming laptop means that you’ll be getting higher specifications that’ll serve you well in demanding applications and games. However, that isn’t the case for laptops.
Thermal Throttling
Gaming laptops have thermal throttling issues during extended sessions. This is when heat is trapped in the laptop chassis, which reduces the CPU and the GPU’s clock speeds.
This means the performance you want will not be available unless you cool it down. Unlike gaming PCs with larger and dedicated cooling options, gaming laptops have relied on their fans for the longest time.
Games On Gaming Laptop (Image Credits – Acom Distributer)
Due to this, many people resort to buying laptop cooling pads, but they still aren’t as effective as a PC air cooler or an AIO liquid cooler. Not only does this limit performance, but it also forces you not to use it on your lap.
Gaming Performance
The gaming performance on these laptops isn’t the same as that on gaming PCs. A similar specification on a PC and a laptop will have significant differences because the components are compact for the laptop.
This means you won’t get the best framerates unless you go for the ultimate killer laptops. If you compare their gaming performance side-by-side, you’ll see how better the desktop PC will perform with the same specs.
Benchmarks Using Same Specs (Image Credits – YT/Techo Mode)
Battery Life
Another significant downside is the poor battery life on laptops, even with lighter tasks. What’s fascinating is that battery life improvement remains somewhat untouched after so many years of advancements in other technical aspects.
While you can optimise your laptop’s battery for non-gaming use, you still need to be plugged in if you want to use it for gaming or other high-energy-consuming workloads.
Laptop On Your Lap Isn’t Ideal For Gaming
I like laptops because they can sit on my lap, but using them when it gets hot becomes a nightmare, even after I add a cooling pad. Moreover, I used to hunch over weirdly when using it, which caused much strain to my back.
Hunch While Using Laptop (Image Credits – Insight Creative, Inc.)
Practically A Desktop PC Now
So, most of the time, especially while running demanding applications or games, you’ll use it on your desk. Moreover, you can’t use the trackpad to play games or for other precise movement tasks, so you’ll also use a mouse.
Since you don’t want the battery to run out, you need to plug your laptop in as well. And most people find it easier and more ergonomic to view a laptop’s display on a monitor, so they hook it up to a monitor as well.
Doing this, you automatically need a keyboard as well. You see where I’m going with this. This way, you’re indirectly using your laptop as a PC, which defeats the purpose of having a gaming laptop.
Laptop As A PC (Image Credits – r/GamingLaptops)
High Price Despite Less Performance
One of the main aspects of switching to a PC from a laptop is the reduced cost. While laptop brands such as Gigabyte offer huge discounts, the value proposition is still in favor of desktop PCs.
You can build a future-proof PC at a fraction of the price of a gaming laptop. Most gaming laptops cost upwards of $1,499, with some reaching an absurd price tag of $4,650.
Lack Of Upgradability & Customization
Speaking of upgradability, laptops are limited to their own hardware, and upgrading components means going to a tech support guy unless you want to take the hassle of unscrewing the computer and replacing the components.
Upgradability On A Gaming Laptop (Image Credits – YT/Dave2D)
Besides, there aren’t many upgrades you can do to a laptop. You can replace the SSDs, RAMs, and perhaps the battery in a laptop. In contrast, you get to upgrade almost any component in a desktop PC.
As for the customization, you only get a laptop back cover that you can customize using your stickers. Asus’s Project Dali is an exception with its E-ink on the back cover, but there isn’t much you can customize.
In comparison, you can place fans around your desktop PC, rig the tower with RGB, even place an action figure inside your PC case, and even swap the case altogether. On PCs, you get much freedom regarding this aspect.
Maximum Customization On A Gaming PC (Image Credits – Gallery Panda)
Verdict
If you’re planning on buying a gaming laptop and portability isn’t your priority, this is your sign to consider buying a gaming PC instead. Most users were also happy to purchase a gaming PC and a budget laptop to get the best of both worlds.
At T4G, my task is to cover the latest news around the gaming globe ASAP and with the utmost precision. I adore all the games and respect all the devs behind the amazing games that we get all year. So, whether it’s a PC or a Console game, I got it all covered.

EA has reportedly canceled the Black Panther game, 2 years after the development began.
It has also closed Cliffhanger Studios, which was especially created for the game in 2023.
More layoffs have also been made in the mobile department and central teams.
Black Panther is among the most prominent Marvel characters since his debut in the MCU in 2016. So, when EA revealed that it is specifically opening a studio to work on the Black Panther game in 2023, fans were hyped for it.
Almost two years later, the company has canceled the Black Panther game and closed the studio that had been working on the project, resulting in several layoffs.
Why it matters: Ever since its announcement, no further details had been revealed about the title, due to which fans were already skeptical. Now, this report has confirmed their worst fears.
EA has officially cancelled its Black Panther game
According to a report from IGN, EA sent an email to its staff announcing that the company is making several changes to sharpen its focus and put its creative energy behind the most significant growth opportunities.
These decisions are hard, they affect people we’ve worked with, learned from, and shared real moments with.
– Email Sent to Staff Members
EA isn’t only canceling Black Panther and closing Cliffhanger, it is also laying off staff from its mobile and central teams. While the company hasn’t confirmed the number, IGN says that the number is less than 300.
EA has also closed the studio and laid off some of the other staff as well
However, the gaming giants have announced that they’ll try to accommodate the laid-off staff in other departments of the company, so at least that’s a good sign, but for fans waiting on the Black Panther game, it’s bad news.
Nonetheless, there is still Marvel 1943: Hydra to look forward to. While it won’t have T’Challa as the Black Panther, it’s still somewhat of a comfort that we will be getting the character in some form.
What are your thoughts on this EA canceling the Black Panther game? Let us know your opinions in the comments or join the discussion at the official Tech4Gamers Forum.

GTA 6 will include many features, such as destructible environments, enterable buildings, heavy population density, and real-time traffic.
Given these features, it will require at least 32GB of RAM, a decent GPU like the RTX 3080 or 6800 XT, and a 150GB SSD.
However, to run at the highest settings, we recommend having at least 64GB of GDDR5 RAM, an RTX 4080 or 7900 XT, and 200GB of NVMe SSD.
The highly anticipated GTA 6 is on the wishlist for almost every gamer, including PC gamers. But given the game’s $1 billion budget and realistic-looking graphics, it is reasonable to wonder what the PC requirements would be.
GTA 6 On PC (Image Credits – TechRadar)
Technologically Advanced
GTA 6 is set to utilize the RAGE 9 engine, and Rockstar decided to include all the latest technologies and visuals so the game would satisfy fans. This means this game will be like no other, but you need a great PC to achieve that.
Huge Map
Firstly, let’s see what the game is set to include, judging from the images and trailers Rockstar has posted. A huge map is intended for this GTA 6, and it is said that it’ll be three times the size of the map from GTA 5.
With this massive environment, streaming technology similar to Red Dead Redemption 2 will be seen, but with more refinement and optimization. If you’re on a standard hard drive, switching to an SSD would be a must for this game.
GTA 6 Map (Image Credits – r/GTA6)
Graphics & Visuals
The game will also feature stunning visuals, setting a new bar for open-world games. We already see highly realistic hair, water-simulation, and facial features. Even the cutscenes in this upcoming game resemble high-end CGI films.
Speaking of the graphics, GTA 6 might have ray-traced lighting, reflections, and global illumination as the default features. This means a 3080 or an RX 6800 XT would be suitable for running everything smoothly at 60 FPS.
Resolution & Framerate
This is for 1080p only, and increasing the resolution means upgrading your GPU. While you can still play it with reduced settings on 1440p on these GPUs, having a 4080 or a 4090 for smooth gameplay at 1440p and 4K resolution is best.
GTA 6 Limited To 30 FPS On Consoles (Image Credits – YT/Daily HUBRANX)
Given the game’s demanding nature, fans are already doubtful it will run smoothly on an Xbox Series S. Rockstar might optimise it for each console during the delay, but there are chances that consoles will be limited to 30 FPS.
However, the PC players would have no limit for the FPS, but they still have to keep other specifications in mind before getting this game, as it could get very demanding, especially at the highest settings.
PC Specs Depending On GTA 6’s Features
Not only that, but including destructible environments will likely be very demanding. Real-time destruction involves rendering debris, particles, and explosions and includes dynamic physics, which is taxing to the GPU.
Destructable Enviorment
The CPU handles all the calculations related to the breaking, falling, and impact of the environment. For instance, if a building explodes and crumbles, this is a heavy CPU calculation.
The more destroyed objects, particles, and debris are scattered around you, the more RAM is utilized. Overall, the destructive environment alone is demanding on the CPU, GPU, and RAM.
Enterable Buildings
In GTA 6, more than 40% of the buildings will be enterable. Now, each building has its assets, scripts, lighting, and AI, which are all taxing to the CPU, especially if multiple interiors are used.
However, Rockstar has designed a way to reduce that by randomizing interiors using AI, saving the strain on your hardware. Still, it requires fast level-streaming to load interiors, so you need an NVMe SSD, and an HDD isn’t recommended.
There will be simulations of real-time traffic incidents and realistic AI, which means more cars and NPCs will be present throughout the game. We’ve also seen from the trailer that there are more people in groups placed around the map.
These NPCs and vehicles require behaviour scripting, collision detection, AI processing, and pathfinding, all CPU-intensive workloads. Moreover, the greater the population density, the higher the RAM usage.
This means that at least 32GB of RAM is required to process all of these things smoothly. While you could easily control population density in GTA 5 from the main menu, GTA 6 might have a similar option to lower it if you have less RAM.
Heavy Traffic & Population Density (Image Credits – Rockstar Games)
Compared To Other AAA Games
If we look at other AAA open-world titles like Cyberpunk 2077, we see that they require upwards of 32GB RAM, a 4070, and a hefty SSD, preferably an NVMe, especially at 4K resolution.
Modding Scene
If we consider the modding aspect, then it is a no-brainer to get the best possible graphics card and other components to ensure things run smoothly without you worrying about any stuttering whatsoever.
What The Requirements Could Be (Speculation)
Minimum Requirements: (1080p Mostly High Settings @ 60FPS)
CPU: Intel Core i7-12700K / AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
GPU: Nvidia RTX 4070 or 3080 / AMD RX 6800 XT or 6900 XT
While we could only predict the system requirements of the upcoming GTA 6, its official requirements will surely be released prior to the PC launch. Regardless, there is a chance that the requirements will more or less be the same.

The Metaverse didn’t just up and vanish; it evolved into your favorite titles.
Games such as Fortnite and Roblox quietly brought the Metaverse to life.
Ever-expanding virtual worlds are now a standard in modern gaming.
Virtual concerts and in-game events are today’s defining moments in the Metaverse.
It’s gamers, not tech giants, that are building the Metaverse.
A few years ago, the term “Metaverse” was tech’s biggest buzzword. Major companies, such as Meta, Microsoft, and Epic Games, were pouring billions of dollars into the concept of persistent virtual worlds. However, they were only met with media skepticism, declining interest, and headlines suggesting its demise.
But fast forward to 2025, the Metaverse did not die it evolved. It just quietly evolved into something more practical and engaging: your next gaming platform. The concept, however, is shaky and has piqued the interest of many who look forward to what the future of the Metaverse holds.
From Hype to Gameplay
When the Metaverse was first introduced, it was often tied to grand visions, such as virtual offices, digital real estate, and cartoonish avatars attending meetings. Critics were quick to dismiss the Metaverse as a tech utopia that no one wanted.
Metaverse illustration – Image Credits [Pinterest]Behind the scenes, however, game developers saw potential not in reinventing the internet but in using the Metaverse to increase immersion, continuity, and cross-platform interactions. Tencent abandoned VR hardware in pursuit of the Metaverse, highlighting its importance. The Metaverse has now shifted from being a single-digitized universe to a system of interconnected gaming ecosystems.
Gaming Was the Real Killer App
While metaverse enthusiasts were dreaming of replacing emails and video calls, gamers were already exploring interactive and immersive digital experiences through games like Fortnite and Minecraft. These games weren’t weren’t just hit. They served as Porto-metaverses, blending gameplay with social spaces and more.
Additionally, Sony’s significant investment in live service and extended reality gaming showcases a step forward toward creating persistent, immersive gaming experiences reminiscent of the Metaverse. Recently, the rise of multiverse-native games, such as Core, Horizon Worlds, and The Sandbox, has further blurred the lines between games and platforms.
Metaverse Takes Users into A Virtual Reality – Image Credits [Hyperspace]These digital worlds aren’t just backdrops. They evolve, adapt, and update based on player behavior and community events. The Metaverse didn’t collapse; it just integrated itself into the core loop of gaming.
Persistent Worlds, Real Rewards
One of the biggest promises of the Metaverse, “persistence,” has found its true home in gaming. Game worlds that keep running and evolving even when players log off are now common. What was once a special feature is now expected in modern games.
In No Mans Sky, planets change in real-time, even without player input. Similarly, in Eve Online, players drive the economy and shape the game’s history. These examples show how evolving game Metaverses are becoming a new trend. Building on tokenized economies, user-owned assets, and cross-game progression, the Metaverse has evolved to merge with gaming.
Social Interaction Meets Immersion
At its heart, the Metaverse was always about social presence. The gaming platforms are making this a reality, not just through corporate meetings but through in-game concerts, collaborative building, and voice-integrated dynamics. VR and AR are no longer mandatory entry points.

These events are not just spectacles but are proof that gaming is the social engine of the Metaverse.
Cross-Platform, Cross-Reality
Interoperability, once just an idea in terms of the Metaverse, is now becoming real in gaming. Platforms such as Roblox and Epic Games’ ecosystem enable cross-platform avatars, currencies, and achievements, while cloud gaming allows players to transition seamlessly from one screen to another.
Even AI NPCs and avatars are evolving, with interactive bots populating game worlds, bringing dynamic storytelling and personalized experiences. Slowly but surely, the Metaverse’s vision of a seamless transition between realities is becoming a reality.
If the early version of the Metaverse was about digital offices and shopping malls, today’s Metaverse has evolved and is much more engaging and playable. It’s interactive, fun, and centered around what players actually want to do, which is to play, create, and connect.
While the buzz has faded, what remains is a sturdy foundation upon which the gaming industry is actively building. As we move into the future, we will see more and more interactive and immersive experiences better than ever before. Gaming didn’t save the Metaverse; it became the Metaverse.
