Live-Action Film Is Also In Development!

Story Highlight
  • A live-action film for Death Stranding is in the works, as Kojima is passionate about the film industry.
  • Thanks to that passion, Kojima Productions is also working on an anime for the game.
  • The sequel to Death Stranding is set to release next month.

Death Stranding is one of the most famous but weird franchises in the gaming industry. The first game in the series gained traction pretty fast, but many thought it was quite bizarre, which sums up Hideo Kojima’s entire personality pretty well.

He tried something different, and it clicked with the fandom. However, it always felt right for this franchise to have an anime. Now, Kojima has announced that this franchise is getting an anime.

Why it matters: Death Stranding is a unique game with a story that would fit perfectly in an anime.

In an interview with Vogue Japan, Hideo Kojima discussed his thoughts regarding the gaming and movie industry.

He thinks that the boundaries between these two will disappear in the future. Koijima then discussed the upcoming live-action movie of the game and also revealed that there is an anime in the works

I aim to create a Death Stranding that can only be realised through film, one that could win awards at festivals like the Cannes Film Festival or the Venice Film Festival. we are also currently working on an anime adaptation.

-Hideo Kojima

Kojima isn’t just passionate about games; he is also very passionate about films, and that is precisely why an anime and live-action film are in the works for Death Stranding. He previously hinted at an anime adaptation for the game, but it has never been confirmed until now.

Hideo Kojima also discussed the different types of adaptation involved in converting games into visual media (movies, live-action films, seasons).

When it comes to adapting games into visual media, there are works like The Last of Us, which stays true to the original storyline, and films like The Super Mario Bros Movie which are more of a service to fans of the game.
