Will AI Solve Unreal Engine's Persisting Issues?

Story Highlight
  • Epic Games has confirmed that AI is being used to develop code for Unreal Engine.
  • The company believes AI will make Unreal Engine more modular and stable than before.
  • Epic Games also introduced improvements to its launcher on PC using AI recently.

Epic Games has recently become one of gaming’s most pro-AI companies. In fact, CEO Tim Sweeney has even criticized Valve for seemingly limiting developers who use AI in their games. Recently, the company also confirmed AI-based improvements for Unreal Engine.

Why it matters: Despite Unreal Engine’s strengths, drawbacks like shader compilation stutter have held it back, so Epic Games could be eyeing AI use to fix many of these problems.

Unreal Engine 6 Could Come Sooner Thanks To AI

Epic Games has confirmed that AI is being used to help develop code for Unreal Engine.

According to This Week in Videogames, the developer is making use of tools like Claude Code and Codex for this purpose, hoping to make AI integration a key part of Unreal Engine 6 and UEFN.

As per the studio, these tools should help make the engine more stable in the future in a way that wasn’t possible before. Epic Games also states that the engine will become more modular as a result of AI tools being used.

The tools are helping us not just develop code and features, but to keep the engine more stable as we work.
