Many Don't Even Want to Work at The Studio Anymore!

Story Highlight
  • EA recently went through a major wave of 400 layoffs, with BioWare being shuttered.
  • The employees say that morale at the studio is terrible following the layoffs.
  • The management is reportedly forcing the use of gen AI tools like Claude and more.

Last week, EA laid off employees and closed its once-legendary BioWare studio. This has obviously garnered many responses, with some being fine with the closure, while others are angry. However, existing developers don’t seem too happy.

A new report suggests that the EA workers are complaining of terrible morale and forced use of generative AI platforms like Claude, following the layoffs. They complain that the company is just decaying as its leadership gets greedy.

Why it matters: Many have raised concerns that EA has done this out of corporate greed since the company as a whole is doing really well. Internal fears among the developers about further layoffs might’ve increased too.

Vertical Slice talked to multiple developers who revealed the current condition at the company. Morale is apparently terrible, with many just biding their time and wanting to leave EA if things don’t get better with time.

Morale has been terrible. The line we kept hearing is ‘do less, better’ but it just felt like we were doing the same amount with less people.

Upper management was very excited about Claude and the possibilities of [generative] AI. The message from every single manager I’ve heard is ‘this is the future, you have to get onboard

Another major revelation is that the leadership is heavily pushing for the use of gen AI. They haven’t currently mandated it, but are forcing employees to familiarize themselves with tools like Claude and other platforms.
