Let’s look at the performance benchmarks. The two GPUs will be tested in 10 titles at 1440P. All games were tested at Ultra or equivalent preset.

• The thermal performance of the cards varies from variant to variant. Thus, the recorded temperatures should not be considered the generalized thermal performance of the card.

The Last Of Us Part I

• Kicking off the benchmarks with The Last of Us Part 1, the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB averaged 46 FPS, trailing the RTX 4070 by 37%.
• Regarding the %1 lows, the RTX 4070 leads again with 53 FPS over 38 FPS of the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB.
• Looking at thermals, the RTX 4070 ran 5°C warmer on average.
• The power consumption numbers show the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB averaging 151.9 watts of power consumption, significantly less than the RTX 4070.

Cyberpunk 2077

• Next up is Cyberpunk 2077; the RTX 4070 recorded 64 FPS on average in this title. In reply, the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB averaged 50 FPS.
• Moving on to the %1 lows, the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB scored 38 FPS, trailing its big brother’s score of 53 FPS.
• Again, a 5°C temperature difference is seen between the two GPUs.
• The RTX 4070 consumed 191 watts of power on average, whereas the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16GB averaged 146.8 watts.

A Plague Tale: Requiem

• In “A Plague Tale: Requiem,” the RTX 4070 accumulated a healthy average of 80 FPS. In contrast, the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB scored 65 FPS.
• As for the %1 lows, the RTX 4070 scored 64 FPS, leading by 15 FPS again.
• In this test, the Nvidia RTX 4070 averaged 62°C, running 6.8% warmer.
• The RTX 4070 crossed the 200-watt mark of heat output, while the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB averaged 155.3 watts.

Hogwarts Legacy

• The next title is Hogwarts Legacy. During this test, the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB averaged 35 FPS, trailing by 20% this time.
• Concerning %1 FPS, the RTX 4070 scored 32 FPS, leading by a 5-FPS margin.
• As for the thermal performance, the RTX 4060 Ti ran 10.3% cooler in this test.
• Looking at power consumption, the RTX 4070 averaged 188.1 watts compared to the 4060 Ti 16GB’s figure of 139.2 watts.

Resident Evil 4

• Running Resident Evil 4 with ray tracing set to normal, the RTX 4070 averaged 93 FPS. Its lower-end Lovelace rival scored 77 FPS.
• In terms of the %1 lows, the RTX 4070 scored 79 FPS, bagging a 21.5% winning margin.
• Here, the two GPUs differ by 2°C when it comes to temperatures.
• The Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 displayed a mean power consumption of 188.1 watts, 23.1% higher than the 16GB RTX 4060 Ti variant.

Hitman 3

• Hitman 3 sees the RTX 4070 and RTX 4060 Ti 16GB generating over a hundred FPS, at 188 and 144 FPS, respectively.
• As for the %1 lows, the RTX 4070 FPS scored 151 FPS while the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB managed 118 FPS.
• The RTX 4070 ran 12.2% warmer over the course of this test.
• Additionally, the RTX 4070 nearly hit the 200-watt mark again, whereas the RTX 4060 Ti remained just under 150 watts.

Microsoft Flight Simulator

• The next test is Microsoft Flight Simulator. Here, the RTX 4070 averaged 28.3% more FPS than the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB.
• Looking at the %1 lows, the RTX 4070 scored 70 FPS in response to 54 FPS of the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB.
• Moving on to the temperature figures, the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB averaged 59°C, leading again in thermal performance.
• The RTX 4070 drew 193.9 watts of power on average, 33.2% more than the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB.

• In God of War, the RTX 4070 averaged 104 FPS, contrasting with the 75 FPS tally of the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB.
• The %1 low figures show the RTX 4070 scoring 84 FPS. In comparison, the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB scored 61 FPS.
• As for the thermal performance, the RTX 4070 averaged 63°C, 5°C warmer than the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB.
• The power consumption numbers read 191.8 watts for the RTX 4070 and 147.5 watts for the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB.

Horizon Zero Dawn

• The second-last title is Horizon Zero Dawn, in which the RTX 4070 averaged 113 F{S while the 4060 Ti 16GB accumulated 86 FPS.
• On to the %1 lows, the RTX 4070 scored 96 FPS while the 4060 Ti 16GB managed 77 FPS.
• Thermal statistics favor the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB yet again.
• As for power consumption, the RTX 4070 averaged 186.2 watts, and the Nvidia RTX 4060 Ti 16GB averaged 141.4 watts.

• Concluding our benchmarks is Forza Horizon 5. With Ray Tracing switched to High, the RTX 4070 averaged a healthy 108 FPS — 16.1% more than the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB.
• Concerning the %1 lows, the RTX 4070 racked up 90 FPS, and the RTX 4060 Ti scored 78 FPS.
• The temperature figures show the RTX 4070 averaging 62°C, 4°C more than the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB.
• Lastly, the RTX 4070 consumed 183.2 watts, nearly 31% higher than the RTX 4060 Ti this time around.

Overall Gaming Performance

Here are the average scores across the ten tests for both GPUs.

• The RTX 4070 averaged 93.2 FPS across the 10 games. In contrast, the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB averaged 73.1 FPS. So, the RTX 4070 is about 27.4% faster than the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB in 1440P gaming.
• As for the %1 lows, the RTX 4070 racked up 77.2 FPS in reply to 60.5 FPS of the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB — a nearly identical 27.6% difference.

Average Power Consumption

Here’s a peek into the power consumption numbers.

Reminder: 

• RTX 4060 Ti 16GB: 165W 
• RTX 4070: 200W (21.2% higher)

• The RTX 4060 Ti 16GB averaged 146.9 watts of power draw compared to the RTX 4070’s figure of 190.8 watts. Thus, the RTX 4070 is 29.8% more power-consuming than the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB in 1440P gaming.
• Both GPUs remained under their TDP ratings as far as the average power draw is concerned. However, the difference in power consumption in 1440P gaming (29.8%) is greater than in their TDP ratings.

Thermal Performance

We saw nearly a 30% difference in power consumption — what about the temperatures?

• The RTX 4070 averaged 62.8°C while the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB averaged 58°C across the 10 benchmarks. This means the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB is 8.2% more power-consuming than the RTX 4070 in 1440P gaming.
• So, it turns out that the difference in thermal performance is much less than in power consumption. We can credit the RTX 4070’s cooling design here.

Prices And Electricity Costs

Firstly, both GPUs cost as much as they did on launch, $499 and $599. The best price you can get for an RTX 4070 is for variants like PNY’s Vetro ($589). Furthermore, various sub-vendors offer the card for the $599 price tag.

The same case goes for the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB; you can only find it for $499 at the cheapest price. So at best, you’ll find an RTX 4060 Ti 16GB card for 18% cheaper than you will an RTX 4070.

The RTX 4070 consumes nearly 30% more power than the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16GB in 1440P gaming. So depending on electricity costs in your area, you may or may not need to keep that in mind.

RTX 4070 Vs RTX 4060 Ti 16GB: Which GPU Has Better Value?

So which GPU is worth your dollar? Well, the RTX 4070 performed 27.6% better in 1440P gaming, but the price difference between the cards is only about 18%. It does draw significantly more power and may run a touch warmer, but the performance difference makes up for these “drawbacks.”

Hence, the RTX 4070 provides a better overall value than the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB.

Final Thoughts

So, there you have it. I’ve compared the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB vs RTX 4070 in every department to find the winner. The RTX 4070 wins the race in terms of value, and that doesn’t come as a surprise.

Nvidia added 8GB of VRAM to the original RTX 4060 Ti and added $100 to the price tag. And as seen in my RTX 4060 Ti 16GB vs 8GB comparison, the two GPUs differed by less than 1% in 1440P gaming performance. So, it’s more reasonable to choose from one of the RTX 4060 Ti 8GB and the RTX 4070.

As far as this comparison is concerned, the optimal choice is the RTX 4070. The only wins for the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB are its lower power consumption and slightly better thermals.
