The US has raised concerns about Kaspersky Lab being used to steal sensitive data.
Kaspersky Lab is set to end all activities in the region starting from July 20.
Existing US customers have until the end of September to find a replacement.
The United States is a cautious country, which takes steps to stop other nations from eavesdropping on information or jeopardizing national security. It has proven to be very protective after taking action against China, which was recently prohibited from acquiring semiconductors and AI-related equipment.
Now, the US is accusing Russian Companies, including Russian cybersecurity and antivirus software provider Kaspersky Lab, of stealing sensitive data.
Why it matters: Kaspersky is a popular anti-virus of choice for millions across the globe. Over the years, it has established a solid reputation.
Kaspersky Is An All-Purpose Antivirus Software
The Kaspersky Lab declared that it would begin to cease all of its activities within the United States from July 20. After 12 firm executives received sanctions and the company’s products were prohibited from being sold in the United States, the closure was unavoidable.
Kaspersky was sanctioned in June by the Bureau of Industry & Security of the Department of Commerce. The company was prohibited from offering any antivirus or cybersecurity products to any American.
This will force them to discontinue selling their goods in the US, which will definitely hurt the business. Overall, the closure will impact fewer than 50 American employees.
The main issue is the Russian company’s declining reputation as a result of US accusations that it poses a security danger. The US government is concerned that Kaspersky Lab may acquire information that Russia could use against them.
Although Kaspersky Lab has chosen to soon cease all of its operations in the United States, users of its antivirus software will have more time to take action. In particular, American residents who own the antivirus software have until September 29, 2024, to uninstall Kaspersky and find a replacement program.

Dragon Age games are well known for their storytelling and unforgettable characters.
However, BioWare was planning to make Dragon Age: The Veilguard a multiplayer game.
This plan didn’t go far, as it would have taken the series far away from its roots.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard was revealed during the Xbox Games Showcase 2024, and it looked stunning. The fandom is quite excited about the game, even though recent releases from the studio have been nothing short of disastrous.
While everything looks promising so far, the studio almost made another huge mistake. BioWare has recently revealed that the upcoming Dragon Age was planned to be a multiplayer game.
Why it matters: The Dragon Age series has been all about the single-player experience with a lot of emphasis on the story and characters. A multiplayer focus could have ruined those core aspects.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard Looks Promising And Can Help BioWare Redeem Itself
Speaking to GameInformer, Gary McKay, the general manager of BioWare revealed new information about the pre-production phase. He explained that there were a lot of experiments and decisions done on what type of game the next Dragon Age should be.
At one point, it was multiplayer – we did a hard look at multiplayer, but we felt we really couldn’t return to our roots.
-Gary McKay
According to his statement, Dragon Age: The Veilguard was set to be a multiplayer-focused title at one point. However, this would have forced the team to completely divert from Dragon Age’s roots, and such an approach would not be welcomed by the fandom.
Moreover, a multiplayer focus would mean aspects like the live service and monetization taking center stage. This would not have been a great fit for the series, making it difficult for BioWare to work with.
McKay further explained that if the idea of making the game multiplayer was approved, then BioWare wouldn’t have been able to create unforgettable characters, and we completely agree.
Dragon Age games have in-depth stories about the characters, which is an essential part of the RPG experience.
It seems BioWare put a lot of thought into Dragon Age: The Veilguard, and rightfully so. This game marks the IP’s revival after more than a decade, so the team is taking extra care to get things right.
Arriving later this year, the RPG has already received more than 15 minutes of extensive gameplay. Fans can also expect more footage in the coming months as BioWare’s marketing ramps up ahead of the release.

The G515 is a solid addition to Logitech’s gaming keyboard lineup, offering a low-profile design with high-quality switches.
Unlike previous low-profile keyboards from Logitech, the G515 seems to be reasonably priced, making it a competitive offering.
Implementation of Software features such as Key Control, and alt mode, make the G515 a well-rounded package.
Logitech has undeniably been behind in the gaming keyboard scene for a long time now, with most new releases failing in the face of competition from companies such as Wooting and Keychron. Personally, I haven’t been a huge fan of Logitech’s previous releases either, which is why I have been excited to see what changes with the newly released G515.
Logitech Gets The Design Right
I was actually surprised by how much functionality Logitech has managed to pack within such a compact, low-profile form factor. There seems to be adequate spacing between each key, just the right amount of switch travel, as well as a thickness of 22mm which negates the need for a separate wristpad.
Logitech G515 (Image By Logitech)
While the keyboard isn’t hot-swappable, Logitech has moved to cherry-style key caps, allowing for customization in that regard. Additionally, I found that software customization also works well with the keyboard, with G-Hub allowing for per-key lighting, as well as Key control, which allows you to map up to 15 different functions to a single key.
Compared to the G915 TKL, the improvements Logitech has implemented are clear. They have gotten rid of the volume wheel and some media keys in the process; however, I won’t necessarily miss those exclusions.
Logitech Key Caps Removed (Image By Logitech)
Naturally, you also get factory-lubed switches, sound-dampening foam, and PBT keycaps, all of which have become industry standards at this point, especially for keyboards in this price category.
Great Features, At A Reasonable Cost
With a price of $139 for the wireless version, the Logitech G515 also manages to stack up well against other low-profile alternatives such as Keychron K3. That also means that the price tag sits $100 below the previous G915 TKL, which is a huge improvement.
Logitech G515 (Image By Logitech)
That is not to say that the Logitech G515 is the best low-profile keyboard on the market, but it’s safe to say that you aren’t going to be overpaying for any of the features the keyboard provides. In addition to that, a cheaper $99 wired variant is also on the way, which is great news for anyone on a budget.
Battery life also remains strong, lasting for around 625 hours with no RGB. Of course, that is going to be reduced to 36 hours if you are going to keep RGB running at maximum brightness. Still, I have no complaints regarding that, and flawless connectivity is essentially a guarantee with that 2.4GHz lightspeed dongle.
A Complete Low-Profile Package
If you are after a well-rounded low-profile keyboard that doesn’t compromise on most aspects, then the Logitech G515 is going to be right up your alley. The keyboard packs all of the well-received features of the previous G915 while also providing much-needed additions such as the PBT keycaps, making it a very competitive offering.
Of course, some people aren’t necessarily going to be happy with the removed media buttons and the volume knob, but, aside from that, Logitech has priced it just right for the amount of features it provides.
At Tech4Gamers I test and write about different hardware configurations to show other PC users what they can expect from their build. My end goal is to educate the masses to make the right decision when they are looking for new PC parts to buy

The GTX 1080 Ti provided unparalleled performance at the time of its release, one-upping almost every other GPU.
7 years after its initial launch, it still manages to keep up with modern GPUs, while also providing better value in the used market.
OC Headroom on the 1080 Ti used to be a huge advantage, with even the lower-end variants offering decent overclocking potential.
There’s no denying that the 1080 Ti has cemented itself as the greatest GPU of all time. In fact, with the current price-to-performance of current-generation flagships, the chances of getting a card as good as the 1080 Ti are close to none. That said, what is it that made it so appealing in the first place?
Unprecedented Price-To-Performance
A reasonably priced flagship GPU that delivers results far better than any gaming GPU? Sounds almost too good to be true, right? Well, the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti managed exactly that at the time of its release.
GTX 1080 Ti (Image By Tech4Gamers)
The GTX 1080 Ti (Image Via Hardware Unboxed)That is not to say that the 1080 Ti was the only GPU of its class. I mean, the Titan XP did rival it in terms of gaming performance; however, that came at a huge cost of around $1199.
The 1080 Ti essentially matched the Titan XP in most titles, at almost half the cost, which made it a great value purchase at the time of its release. In Linus Tech Tips‘ initial review of the 1080 Ti, the card equaled the Titan Xp in most gaming and productivity tests, while also consuming a similar amount of power.
Even if you take inflation into account here, the price at which the founder’s edition retailed is still remarkable, especially considering how you simply can’t get a modern flagship GPU at a price as low as that. For reference, the current flagship GPU from Nvidia, the 4090, comes with an MSRP of $1600.
Not to mention that the 1080 Ti still reigned supreme even after the launch of 2000 series cards from Nvidia. Sure, the card lacked exclusive features such as Ray Tracing and DLSS, but, most people preferred it over the RTX 2080 since it provided similar performance in traditionally rasterized titles at a lower price.
Still Keeps Up
What’s even more remarkable to me is how well the 1080 Ti compares to modern GPUs. While it might not be the fastest GPU around anymore, that doesn’t take away from the fact that it is still capable of running modern titles at 1080p with 60 fps.
1080 Ti Against Modern GPUs (Image Via Gamers Nexus)
In Gamers Nexus‘ 2024 revisit of the 1080 Ti, it roughly provided the same performance as the RTX 4060 in most titles, even gunning ahead of it in some titles thanks to its 11GB VRAM capacity.
Of course, I wouldn’t necessarily recommend purchasing a 1080 Ti in 2024; however, those who own the card will still be satisfied with the experience they are getting 7 years after the card’s initial launch.
Huge OC Headroom
One of the best things about the GTX 1080 Ti was its overclocking headroom, which was an enthusiast’s dream. Even the lower-end variants of the card that didn’t come with the best possible cooler could be modestly overclocked without running into major hiccups.
1080 Ti Overclocked (Image Via Gamers Nexus)
When overclocked, the 1080 Ti even gained a small lead over the RTX 4060 Ti, which is an impressive feat. Don’t get me wrong, its overclocking capabilities aren’t the best in the world; however, when it came down to it, the 1080 Ti overclocked well.
Of course, you didn’t necessarily need to overclock the 1080 Ti, and most did consider its stock clocks to be more than enough for most tasks.
Lives Up To Its Title
With decent overclocking headroom, a solid price-to-performance ratio, and essentially no competition in its range, the 1080 Ti is considered among the best GPUs ever released. Even 7 years after its launch, the card has consistently managed to surprise me with its results in modern triple-A games, and while it may not be the beast it once was, it’s safe to say that it still lives up to its title.
Unfortunately, it seems like Nvidia has no real plans of launching a real successor to the 1080 Ti either. Sure, the 4090 might be the best-performing card, but it comes nowhere close to the value the 1080 Ti provided at the time of its release.

The Acer Nitro 17 ships with both Intel and AMD configurations which are customisable to a major extent.
Customisable upgrades are very cheap, and you can go up to an RTX 4070 with a 1 TB SSD and 16 GB of DDR5 RAM.
A 165 Hz high refresh rate FHD display is standard with all configurations of the Nitro 17.
Great battery life and room-filling speakers are consistent with the nature of the Acer Nitro 17.
Ah, yes.
You’ve finally decided to get rid of the physical limitations of your Desktop PC.
Or perhaps you want something that’s portable, but still has enough oomph to give similarly priced Gaming PCs a run for their money while not sacrificing five essential areas.
What are those five essential areas, you ask?Screen, performance, battery life, keyboard, and audio.
But hey, let’s not forget you’re a wise person who isn’t idiotic enough to buy overpriced laptops like the likes of Razer would have you buy. You want an all-rounded package with a reasonable price tag to match.
You’re in luck. The Acer Nitro 17 has all of the above and much more to offer while still demanding a very sensible amount of money.Let’s have a look at what Acer has for us.
Acer Nitro 17: Specs
You’ll be spoiled for choice when it comes to customising your Nitro 17.
That’s because Acer gives you the flexibility to choose from a variety of variants with both Intel and AMD hardware under the hood.
AMD Variants
The Acer Nitro 17 unit that I am spotlighting boasts a Ryzen 7 8845HS CPU along with the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 GPU with 8 GB GDDR6 VRAM and a 1 TB SSD, bolstered by 32 GB DDR5 RAM, for just $1,250.
However, you can also upgrade to a faster Ryzen 9 7940HS CPU along with an RTX 4070 (8 GB VRAM) GPU with the same 1 TB SSD and 32 GB DDR5 Memory.
Alternatively, the base AMD variant sports a Ryzen 8645HS Processor and an RTX 4050 (6 GB) GPU while halving the SSD to 512 gigs and the DDR5 RAM to 16 gigs.
Intel Variants
If you opt for the Intel route, Acer will start you off at $1,250 for an Intel Core i5-14450HX CPU, an RTX 4050 (6 GB) GPU, a 512 GB SSD, and 16 GB RAM.
You can work your way up through several configurations all the way up to an Intel Core i7-13700HX or Core i7-13700H Processor, an RTX 4060 (8 GB) GPU, a 1TB SSD, and 32 GB RAM.
Acer Nitro 17: Real-World Performance
Where should I start?
Display: For starters, the Nitro 17 offers you a 165 Hz 17.3” FHD (1920×1080) Display which can get as bright as roughly 350 nits with support for Nvidia G-Sync to solidify the immersive gaming experience. However, Acer also offers an upgraded option of the same 165 Hz 17.3″ display but with a higher QHD (2560×1440) resolution.
Keyboard & Speakers: Moving on, Acer’s value-packed 17” laptop integrates a full-sized RGB keyboard with a dedicated number pad and arrow keys and somewhat front-facing dual stereo speakers, which do get surprisingly loud, akin to the speakers found on Apple’s MacBooks.
I/O Connectivity: Furthermore, the Nitro 17 acts as a docking station, what with its 2x USB Type-C connectors, 3x USB Type-A ports, an Ethernet connection, a MicroSD card reader, and of course, an HDMI port. Phew.
Battery Life: Even more surprising is the Nitro 17’s battery life where it outshined other gaming laptops with a runtime of almost more than 7.5 hours on normal web browsing and almost 3 hours of gaming with full power, which is atypical of a gaming laptop.
Gaming Grunt: Needless to say, featuring a Ryzen 7 8845 processor along with an RTX 4060 GPU and a 1 TB SSD/16 GB RAM configuration means that the Nitro 17 is more than capable of taking on your boatload of games without breaking a sweat.
Acer Nitro 17: Don’t Miss Out
Acer’s latest creation begs the attention of those on a budget, but even if your budget’s flexible, I would highly recommend checking out the Nitro 17.
Who knows, you might end up saving quite some serious bits of money.
Acer Nitro 17 – Nvidia is pushing hard for AI integration within its ‘RTX’ lineup of GPUs.
High-performance CPUs, latest generation GPUs from Nvidia, the newest DDR5 RAM, a high refresh rate FHD screen, outstanding speakers, an RGB keyboard, and ample battery life, no matter what you’re in the market for, Acer has got you covered.
Long story short, if you’re looking for a budget gaming laptop, look no further than the Acer Nitro 17, regardless of whether you’re an Intel or AMD fan, but especially if you’re siding with Team Red.

Valve introduced weapon skins, cases, and keys in 2012, which paved the way for its exponential success.
The idea of trading and selling skins was lucrative and gave rise to the Steam Community Market.
The rarity of the skins led users to purchase more, which increased Valve’s business and gave rise to gambling markets.
We all know the features and gameplay of Counter-Strike. But, do you know how Valve has opened a multi-billion dollar market just from a single game?
History Of CS:GO’s Market
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive came into being by Valve Corporation on August 21, 2012. The game was initially not free and that was the only way Valve earned from it. However, Valve wanted to convert this one-time purchase into something more lucrative.
This model was followed for a year until, Value decided to drop an “Arms Deal” update on August 13, 2013, which introduced weapon skins, cases, and keys. This created the iconic weapon skins system and the ever-growing Steam market for this game.
Rare Patterns
Not only were weapon skins rare due to special cases and events, but the weapon’s patterns (or finish) also significantly impacted its sales price. With the Arms Deal update, CSGO also launched a randomized skin pattern where each weapon had a distinct design.
This meant that people who stumbled across a skin, particularly a knife with unique patterns were flowing in profits since this specific skin equated to not only a few thousand dollars but the value could ramp up to hundreds of thousands of dollars.
The infamous blue gem is one of the examples of an incredibly rare skin pattern that the “Case Hardened” skins possess. In this pattern, an entire side of the weapon is covered with a shiny blue surface. A knife or an AK-47 with this pattern sells for $800K to $1.5M.
Stickers, Gloves & Others
On February 5, 2014, Valve introduced stickers along with the “Katowice 2014” which was in correspondence to the EMS One Katowice 2014 tournament that was taking place at that time.
Katowice 2014 Current Prices
Since these were the first-ever stickers, they are of so much value today that now their starting price is $400 and goes up to $110,000. Similarly, over the years, Value introduced gloves, agents, music kits, Graffiti, and Pins that were also tradable and sellable.
Steam Market
The weapon cases gave players an opportunity to obtain expensive skins on the basis of their luck. After the players had the skins, the Steam Community Market allowed users to trade or sell their skins.
Skins were categorized by rarity, with some being extremely rare and hence highly priced. These rare items were often found in limited-time events or special cases and stumbling upon these items meant that you could bag thousands of dollars by selling a single skin.
Skin-Betting & Gambling
This urge to obtain the rarest weapon skins encouraged people to open more cases in the hope of getting lucky. However, the twist was that the cases required a key worth a few dollars that they needed to purchase. This meant that Valve was raking in high profits.
Due to the popularity of the skins, skin betting began to rise in Mid-2014. Here, players wagered their skins on the outcomes of professional CS players, and all the skins from users were placed in a virtual pot and the winner gets to take all the skins.
This also led to other gambling sites, which came in the form of Roulette, Jackpot, Coin Flip, and other games. Here, the concept was to bet the skins and a random winner would be selected who would take all the skins.
Scams
These sites began doing extremely well and it got to a point where YouTubers and streamers started to indulge in scams. These guys would record themselves getting rare skins from gambling websites that they were promoting.
As innocent as it seemed, it turned out that these promoted websites were their own inventions where they rigged all the items in their favor, which hooked the audience and encouraged users to buy from their sites.
This site raked so much money that in July 2016, Valve had to issue cease and desist letters to over 20 gambling sites, to shut down the prevalence of this scam.
CS2
We see that Valve is the ultimate raker of profit. With the transition from CSGO to CS2, Valve had improved the outlook of the game enhancing the visuals and the details on the skins. This also equates to a rise in Valve’s ever-growing profit.

The PS5 Pro was previously leaked with a 2024 release date.
The same insider who revealed this information now seems unsure about the hardware launching this year.
He suggests that the console will only be revealed in 2024 if Sony intends to launch it before 2025.
The PS5 Pro was heavily rumored for the past few months. Sony is said to be quite ambitious with this console, hoping to improve ray tracing and offer its own in-house upscaling solution.
While the new console was always expected to be announced later this year and launch in 2024, there has been a noticeable lack of updates recently. The original insider who broke the news on the PS5 Pro also seems doubtful about its 2024 launch.
In his latest tweet, the leaker suggests that the console may not launch this year.
Why it matters: 2025 is already said to be a major year for PlayStation and its first-party lineup. Adding a new console launch to this year would make it even better.
Sony Launched The PlayStation Portal Last Year
Tom Henderson was the source behind the original reports of Sony’s new console.
In a series of recent tweets, he was asked about PlayStation’s upcoming announcement in September. Replying to the tweet, Tom Henderson seemed unsure, stating that this would happen only if Sony had plans to launch the console in 2024.
If it releases this year!
-Tom Henderson
What’s interesting here is the fact that Tom Henderson has been quite sure about a late 2024 launch in the past. His track record also speaks for itself, so the leaker likely had enough evidence to back these claims.
The latest reply suggests that Sony may have changed its plans. At the very least, the gaming giant may be considering a delay into 2025, potentially to ensure the PS5 Pro launches with a strong first-party lineup.
The current year has seen Sony relying on mostly third-party exclusives and smaller games. However, 2025 will mark releases like Death Stranding 2, GTA 6, and more. As such, it would be a wise move to use these releases as showcases for the PS5 Pro’s capabilities.
The PS5 Pro Will Be The World’s Most Powerful Console
Previous leaks have already confirmed that the PS5 Pro is in development. Internal documents from Sony have verified this information, with multiple sources corroborating past leaks about this hardware.
PlayStation has been very quiet about its future for the PS5 so far. Perhaps the gaming giant wants a few more months of secrecy before it’s fully prepared to reveal its hand.
At Tech4gamers, I cover all sorts of gaming news. Whether it’s a leak of any upcoming game or an update, an announcement, or a rumour, I like to write about it all. Over the weekend, I sit and write features where I talk about games that I miss or want to see return.

Naughty Dog has created great franchises like Uncharted, The Last of Us, and more.
Fans believe The Last of Us Part 2 is the developer’s best work to date.
Fans think it’s the culmination of the developer’s work in various areas.
Naughty Dog has released some of the best titles over the past decades. Whether it’s The Last of Us, Uncharted, Crash Bandicoot, or Jak and Daxter, all of them have been enjoyed by millions of players.
This makes it hard to pick one out of Naughty Dog’s long list of games. However, fans have concluded that The Last of Us Part 2remains the team’s best work.
Why it matters: The Last of Us Part 2 might be the studio’s most divisive release to date. This makes it surprising that fans picked it ahead of every other game.
The Last Of Us Part 2 Sold Over 10 Million Copies
A recent poll on Resetera asked fans to pick the best game from Naughty Dog.
Securing almost 41% of the total votes, The Last of Us Part 2 came on top with a major lead. The Last of Us came in second position with around 21% of the total votes, and Uncharted 2 finished as the third best with nearly 18% votes.
The Last of Us Part 2 has almost double the votes as its predecessor, suggesting that a large majority of the fandom agrees with this outcome. Over in the comments, many fans have explained why they specifically picked this title.
TLOU2 is the culmination of their work in combat design, animation, graphics, storytelling, and character work.
-Conciliator
The game was released nearly four years ago and recently received a remaster earlier this year.
Despite the many controversies around Naughty Dog’s narrative decisions in The Last of Us Part 2, it ended up as PlayStation Store’s fourth most-downloaded first-party title and generated over $240 million in revenue.
Love it or hate it, it’s hard to deny the excellence of The Last of Us Part 2 from a purely technical perspective. Naughty Dog’s carefully crafted animations, detailed visuals, and overhauled gameplay truly shined on the PS4.
This is exactly why fans are so excited to see what the team will do with its next title.
The Last of Us Part 2 Is Often Considered Last Generation’s Most Advanced Game
If recent reports are to be believed Naughty Dog is gearing up to release a PC port soon. This should introduce the game to an even larger audience, continuing the success of Naughty Dog and its biggest IP.

A toolchain developed by Spectral Compute aims to enable CUDA programs to run natively on AMD GPUs.
It handles NVPTX Assembly without manual translation and can replace Nvidia’s nvcc compiler.
SCALE has shown success on AMD’s RDNA architecture, enhancing CUDA accessibility beyond Nvidia hardware.
Various efforts have been made to assist in converting CUDA source code to portable C++ code for AMD graphics processors. At the same time, ZLUDA was originally financed by AMD to enable CUDA binaries to operate on AMD.
It looks like a new competitor named SCALE is in town. UK-based company Spectral Compute has been working on SCALE for the past seven years using some open-source LLVM components, helping users run CUDA programs natively on AMD GPUs via the GPGPU toolset.
CUDA Support Gives Nvidia A Huge Advantage Over AMD
SCALE also has a significant advantage over other alternatives that just help with code translation through manual developer processes. CUDA applications that depend on line NVPTX Assembly can be handled by SCALE, which accepts them just as they are.
Furthermore, the SCALE compiler can be used in place of Nvidia’s nvcc compiler, and it features a runtime that “impersonates” the CUDA Toolkit. While compatibility with Vega is still being worked on, Spectral Compute has begun testing SCALE across RDNA3 and RDNA2 GPUs, in addition to basic testing on RDNA1.
Various tests using Blender, Llama-cpp, XGboost, GOMC, Hashcat, and even Nvidia Thrust have proven successful for SCALE. Nvidia’s CUDA will no longer be exclusive and will instead become broadly available with the adoption of SCALE.
It’s crucial to remember that while SCALE can be accessed by users under a free software license, the program itself is not open-source.
While it’s promising to see CUDA running natively on AMD, Nvidia will probably not lose its exclusivity status so easily, as CUDA has been instrumental in the company’s supremacy over the AI industry.

Microsoft is reportedly laying off its key team associated with the DEI department.
The company executives have been accused of evidenced discrimination and harassment.
Microsoft has yet to comment on the situation or the extent of these new layoffs.
In an industry where DEI has become a massive deal, with the likes of Sweet Baby Inc. being huge forces, Microsoft has been accused of evidenced discrimination. The company recently shut down its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) team as a part of its new business strategy.
Why it matters: Forced inclusivity has certainly become a huge part of the industry today. This is a bigger deal for Microsoft since DEI is also big in gaming today.
Microsoft executives are being accused of discrimination and toxicity,
According to the email sent by the DEI team lead to employees, Microsoft mentioned that the department has reached its shelf life. The email further reads that the teams were created for a 3-5-year purpose model, and many companies are looking to shut them down.
DEI programs everywhere are no longer business critical or smart as they were in 2020.
– Microsoft Email
The strategy was put in place after the George Floyd incident back in 2020. The mail states that the timing of that shift in strategy was impeccable so all businesses could reevaluate their ways if their federal contracts came at risk.
Moreover, the mail takes a dig at the leadership saying that the team was the victim of ‘investigated and evidenced discrimination, harassment, and toxicity‘. The team lead also praised the employees, stating that they helped make the world a better place.
Microsoft is reportedly making more layoffs.
While the extent of these layoffs is currently unknown, Microsoft has been no stranger to job cuts this year. After reducing Xbox’s workforce by more than 1900 people, the tech giant is still cutting teams off.
The company also recently closed Tango Gameworks and Arkane Austin.
The company itself hasn’t released any statement on the matter, but talking to Business Wire, Microsoft revealed its stance on DEI is still going strong. It seems to be continuing work on future projects with these principles.

Story Highlight
Xbox recently closed a few of its important studios like Tango Gameworks and Arkane Austin.
The Silent Hill creator was recently asked to address the closure, and he believes that preserving the core style of games is key to avoiding such instances.
He pointed to FromSoftware as an example of a team that sticks to a mostly consistent style despite releasing different games.
Everyone had different perspectives on the main cause behind these closures. According to the creator of Silent Hill, preserving a core identity may be the key to avoiding similar fates for other studios.
Why it matters: This statement has led to a major debate. While some argue it’s great for developers to try completely different things, others believe Keiichiro Toyama is right.
Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree Shows The Classic FromSoftware Style
Keiichiro Toyama no longer works on Silent Hill, but he is often credited for being the man behind this IP. Recently, he stated that preserving a certain style is very important for all game developers.
Referring to FromSoftware, the developer pointed out how each game from the studio has a distinct identity that was established more than a decade ago. Thanks to this style, the studio sold 5 million Shadow of the Erdtree copies within a few days.
Not changing everything every time might be the key to surviving.

The developer likely referred to Tango Gameworks’ Hi-Fi Rush in this instance. This title was a huge departure from anything the studio had done up to that point, even though it was extremely well received.
Redfall is a similar example since it broke away from Arkane’s traditional single-player style game and ended up being a complete failure. It seems Keiichiro Toyama believes in studios sticking to a similar type of game.
However, this comes with the inherent risk of stagnation, with developers relying too often on the same tried-and-true formula.
Redfall Was A Complete Disaster
Previously, many studios like Naughty Dog changed styles completely, going from a developer who specialized in platformers to a story-driven action-adventure team. Many studios have been able to establish completely new identities for themselves after making such transitions.
Nonetheless, Keiichiro Toyama raises an interesting point here. He also addressed the closure of Japan Studio in the same interview, outlining the different ideologies of his team and Sony.
