RX 9070 XT Is Faster And Beats RTX 5080 In Vulkan And DX12 Benchmarks

Story Highlight
  • Using DirectX 12 in a benchmark, the RX 9070 XT was more than twice as fast as the RTX 5080.
  • In Vulkan, the results were mixed, with each card winning in different test modes.
  • Outside of this specific test, the RTX 5080 is expected to be 15-20% faster for general gaming.

AMD, NVIDIA, and Intel are the three companies that offer a range of graphics card models to suit all tastes and budgets. Despite having over 80% of the market, NVIDIA is not the one that provides the best performance for the money, even if the great majority of people choose it.

An NVIDIA benchmark using DX 12 and Vulkan has now demonstrated that an AMD RX 9070 XT can be twice as powerful as an RTX 5080 for half the price.

Source: Opinali

If we are looking for the best high-end performance, Nvidia has an advantage over AMD. Lisa Su’s firm hasn’t yet outperformed a graphics card like the RTX 4090, much less the RTX 5090. However, the best AMD presently has outperformed the RTX 4080 and RTX 4080 SUPER.

In general, the RX 9070 XT is slightly behind the RTX 5080; however, this AMD card outperforms it in both DirectX 12 and Vulkan in the NVIDIA Neural Texture Compression benchmark.

In the tweet, we can see the first comparative tests with DP4A, which enable the RX 9070 XT to achieve 1,800 FPS in Vulkan, surpassing the RTX 5080’s 1,630 FPS. In DX 12, the RX 9070 XT outperforms the RTX 5080 by 110%, achieving 2,650 FPS and 1,260 FPS, respectively.

When we switch to “Transcoded” mode, we can observe that the RX 9070 XT once again outperforms the RTX 5080 in DX12, achieving 5,500 FPS compared to 2,800 FPS. In this Vulkan test, we observe that the 3,000 FPS certification is doubled by the 5080 to 6,000 FPS.

Thus, we can confirm that, except for this particular scenario, the RX 9070 XT graphics card outperforms the RTX 5080 in DX12 and Vulkan on NVIDIA NTC.

The truth is that AMD dominates in terms of performance-to-pricing ratio. According to TechPowerUp, the RTX 5080 is 20% more powerful in 4K games and 15% better in 2K compared to the RX 9070 XT. However, it is ultimately up to personal preference to determine whether it is worthwhile.

Analyst Who Previously Predicted 200M Game Pass Subs Raises Alarms On Stagnating Numbers Amid Price Hike

Story Highlight
  • A famous analyst predicted 200 million Game Pass customers by 2034.
  • He now feels less confident about the figure, stating that no progress has been made toward this goal.
  • The analyst points to price hikes and Xbox’s failure to evolve as potential reasons behind the stagnation.

Game Pass completely changed the fate of Xbox when Microsoft bet big on day-one subscription releases. Since then, the gaming giant has seen millions of subscribers on the service with hopes of significantly higher numbers by the next generation.

In fact, an analyst previously predicted 200 million Game Pass subscribers by 2034. This prediction reflected strong growth and future outlook for the service last year, but the same analyst has now warned that Xbox has not made substantial progress toward this figure.

Why it matters: Game Pass is now central to Microsoft’s entire gaming business model, but the service has slowed down over the last year.

Michael Pachter, the analyst famous for his bold prediction of 200 million Game Pass subscribers by 2034, recently discussed Xbox’s layoffs and current position.

As per Pachter, the gaming giant’s troubles are a result of recent acquisitions. He believes Xbox bit off more than it could chew with the large-scale acquisitions of ZeniMax Media and Activision Blizzard made back-to-back.

This led to price hikes for Game Pass without a significant improvement in the content itself. According to Michael Pachter, this is precisely why the service is struggling today.

I thought they’d have 200 million Game Pass customers in the next 10 years. They’re making no progress toward that.

The analyst believes that Microsoft is not doing enough to support the service and has yet to evolve in line with the model.

He explained that Xbox’s old approach to game development is a hurdle to Game Pass’ growth. The analyst pointed out that Microsoft’s game development model is still based on the proposition of selling consoles despite Xbox hardware no longer being the driving force behind the content.

All of this means that Xbox needs to course-correct and pivot to a different model that complements Game Pass. As it stands, Pachter does not seem too enthusiastic about his prediction from last year.

Game Pass Still Has Good Games, But It Needs To Do More

Of course, this is not the first time a major analyst has expressed concerns regarding Game Pass stagnation. Microsoft itself seems to be facing challenges due to the lower-than-anticipated numbers, resulting in cancellations of million-dollar games like Perfect Dark.

What do you think about Michael Pachter’s statement on Game Pass? Do you think the service will hit 200 million subscribers by 2034? Let’s discuss in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.

Xbox Backtracks On $80 Pricing For The Outer Worlds 2 And Other Holiday Releases Amid Intense Backlash

Story Highlight
  • Xbox has confirmed that it is backtracking on the new pricing structure for The Outer Worlds 2.
  • The other holiday releases will also cost $69.99 instead of going up to $80.
  • The decision to revert to the older pricing was likely made to curb intense backlash and stick with current market conditions.

Besides layoffs and project cancellations, Xbox has also been criticized for increasing the price of its premium offerings to $80 since earlier this year. The change was supposed to go into effect this holiday season, but the brand seems to have changed its mind yet again.

Now, a new statement from an Xbox spokesperson confirms that the company has backtracked on the new pricing structure for the time being. In other words, The Outer Worlds 2 will now only cost $69.99, including the rest of the unannounced 2025 holiday releases.

Why it matters: Xbox backtracking to old $69 pricing for its premium offerings could be an attempt to do damage control for the gaming brand after intense backlash and other criticism surrounding layoffs.

Outer Worlds 2
There was a lot of backlash from fans when Xbox announced the price increase for the sequel.

As reported by IGN, all the full-priced holiday releases—which likely include the new Call of Duty: Black Ops 7—will now only cost $69.99.

We’re focused on bringing players incredible worlds to explore, and will keep our full priced holiday releases, including The Outer Worlds 2, at $69.99 – in line with current market conditions.

-Xbox Spokesperson.

The Outer Worlds 2 was supposed to be the first $80 game for Xbox, but it was harshly criticized by fans due to the new pricing standard, especially considering the original only cost $60 back in 2019.

Therefore, the decision to revert the pricing to match the current market conditions may convince a bigger audience to try out the game. We can also expect a positive ripple effect across the rest of the holiday releases.

Xbox Games Lineup 2025
It’s unclear whether the future Xbox lineup will follow the new pricing structure.

Gamers who already pre-ordered The Outer Worlds 2 for $80 will also be refunded by retailers, then the game can be pre-ordered against for $69.99.

It is unclear whether the new $80 pricing has been shelved for the foreseeable future; it may inevitably return after the holiday season passes.

Do you think Xbox reverting to the old pricing standard means the upcoming holiday games will perform much better, or would it not make much of a difference? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Battlefield 6 Priced At €80 Despite EA Assuring It Wouldn’t Follow New AAA Price Trend

Story Highlight
  • Leaks have emerged revealing that Battlefield 6 will be EA’s first title to cost €80.
  • EA has adopted the inflated price tag after previously saying it wouldn’t raise prices.
  • The official reveal is set for tomorrow, so we will receive a confirmation soon.

EA is set to announce details about Battlefield 6 officially on July 24. However, leaks have emerged revealing everything there is to know about the title, including the price tag, and unfortunately, it isn’t good news, especially for console gamers.

Battlefield 6 is set to be the first EA game to cost the new AAA price tag of €80. The title is reportedly scheduled to release on October 10, which aligns with the usual release window for the franchise.

Why it matters: EA previously stated that it opposes the idea of a new inflated price tag for AAA games and will not implement it with its titles. However, there seems to be a change of heart.

Battlefield 6 will be the first EA title with an inflated price tag.

According to reliable leaker Billbil-kun, Battlefield 6 on consoles will cost €80, while for PC players it will retain the €70 price tag. The reason behind the change is unclear, but it represents a deviation from what the company previously stated.

There will be 2 different versions of the game, the Standard and the Phantom Editions. We can expect the latter to come with some additional perks. Nonetheless, there is no early access regardless of which edition you buy.

Battlefield 6 is set to release on October 10th

All in all, this seems like EA’s official steps into the $80 price tag for new games. However, this pricing is in Euros, so it may translate to $70 when officially revealed. For now, it seems the company is adopting inflated prices.

Elden Ring Still Rakes In Huge Profits For Bandai Namco 3 Years After Release

Story Highlight
  • Bandai Namco posted a 51.5% increase in revenue year-over-year.
  • This increase is attributed to Elden Ring and Shadow of the Erdtree DLC release, which have sold really well over the past year.
  • With the momentum of Elden Ring slowing down, Bandai Namco expects a 22.1% drop in sales despite numerous releases.

Elden Ring has undoubtedly been one of the biggest game releases of this decade. The title practically popularized the Souls genre, with the whole industry following in FromSoftware’s footsteps.

Released back in 2022, the game still averages around 50k players a day, which is impressive for a single-player game. Moreover, it’s also a key driver for Bandai Namco, as the release of Shadow of the Erdtree alongside the base game has helped boost Bandai Namco’s revenue by 51.5% year over year

Why it matters: For a big publisher like Bandai Namco, a single release that helps increase revenue and profits showcases just how massive Elden Ring actually is.

Latest Financial Report By Bandai Namco

In the latest financial report published by Bandai Namco, it was revealed that the company’s net profit was $45 million, representing a 66.1% increase from the previous year.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree was released on June 21st, 2024, and went on to sell really well. The publisher also had major releases of Dragon Ball Sparking Zero and Gundam Breaker 4 last year.

However, Elden Ring is speculated to have made the most profits here. As of last year, before the release of Shadow of the Erdtree, the game had sold 25 million units. In April of 2025, the game surpassed 30 million sales overall, which is likely contributed to the DLC’s release.

Elden Ring Has Received 435 GOTY Awards, Possibly The Most For A Game

The DLC sold 5 million units in its first week, and a year later, sales were likely to have doubled in size.

For this year, Elden Ring Nightreign has been released alongside the Elden Ring Tarnished Edition for Switch 2, planned for later this year. These releases will undoubtedly perform well for Bandai Namco, but they still expect a 22.6% decline in sales over the next year.

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers Received Bad Review Over “Tasteless Depiction of Women”

Story Highlight
  • Wuchang: Fallen Feathers has received a negative rating due to the tasteless depiction of women.
  • The reviewer mentions that the game sexualises women after making them go through untold horrors.
  • This seems like a personal bias, and fans are criticising the reviewers because of it.

The review scores of Wuchang: Fallen Feathers by critics have been made public, and the game has received a generally positive reception overall. It has a score of 75 on Metacritic, which is by no means a bad score, but not a particularly good one either.

The main concern of most reviewers was the difficulty in boss fights, as it seemed unfair to them. While that is a fair criticism, unfortunately, some reviewers gave negative reviews because of personal bias. The game received a poor score primarily due to its general attitude toward women

Why it matters: Personal bias in reviews should be a big no-no. If such reviews are published, then others may follow the same trend, and eventually, everyone would give reviews based on their own taste.

Wuchang Fallen Feathers Bad Review
Wuchang: Fallen Feathers Received A Bad Review Because of Unfair Boss Fights And Uncomfortable Depiction of Women

The review constantly mentions how there is a negative attitude toward women in the game and how it is distasteful for women to go through untold horrors, which reward you with a revealing armour set.

This seems like a case with every game that features beautiful women. This has become a trend, as many reviewers have been seen reviewing a game negatively because it features an attractive woman character

On the other hand, if you remember, Black Myth: Wukong received bad scores because it didn’t feature enough diversity and inclusivity, even though you play as a literal monkey. Another reviewer, while giving the game a pretty solid score, cited “gonner-approved” as a reason in the pros

This has sparked a massive controversy, as fans actually prefer it when women in video games are attractive. Stellar Blade has received a lot of criticism from journalists, with even the director being targeted. The reviewer stated that the Stellar Blade director has never touched a woman, even though he has a wife.

Journo and their jealousy of real woman.

I was already planning to buy it, you don’t have to sell me.

-Fans

Fans are actually disgusted by such reviews and continue to criticise those who give games such ratings based on such agendas.

CDPR’s New IP Project Hadar Is An Action RPG With Melee Combat, Suggests Job Listing

Story Highlight
  • CDPR is currently working on Project Hadar, a brand new and original IP.
  • A job listing for a Senior Gameplay Designer, spotted by us, hints at the game being a melee-combat-focused RPG.
  • The project is currently in pre-production, so details remain slim for the time being.

CDPR has multiple ambitious projects in the works at the moment. The Witcher 4 is the furthest ahead in production, and others, like the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, are also making solid progress. Elsewhere, the team has begun the conception of its first original IP.

Dubbed Project Hadar, this franchise is set to take players on a new adventure in a completely original universe and setting. Although other details remain slim, Tech4Gamers has found a job listing for a Senior Gameplay Designer that suggests the title will be primarily based around melee combat.

Why it matters: CDPR became a household name after selling millions of copies of The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, so fans are excited to see what the team will do with its first original IP.

The Studio Is Hiring For Project Hadar | Image via CDPR

CDPR’s job listing mentions experience with RPG/Action titles as a primary qualification for the role. This isn’t surprising considering the team specializes in RPGs, and Project Hadar was always expected to lean into the studio’s RPG roots.

However, we noted that the listing also states that experience with melee-oriented combat is preferred. This is important since CDPR has a diverse portfolio, and the team’s latest release, Cyberpunk 2077, branched away from melee combat.

Professional experience in RPG/Action titles with melee-oriented combat

-CDPR Job Listing

Although melee combat still played a role in Cyberpunk 2077, the game was primarily a first-person shooter. Anyhow, the job listing suggests Project Hadar will feature a combat system more akin to The Witcher franchise.

Previously, CDPR also expressed an interest in specifically improving the combat of The Witcher franchise with the upcoming fourth mainline release. The experience gained from this process could help shape the melee gameplay of Project Hadar.

The Witcher 4 Ciri
The Witcher 4 Is Expected To Launch In A Few Years

Currently, CDPR is more focused on world design and narrative, but the job listing suggests that the team has some idea of the core gameplay design in mind.

Unfortunately, little else is known about the game at the time of writing. Project Hadar is still in its early stages of development, so the game may undergo numerous changes by the time it is released.

What do you hope to see in the studio’s first original IP? Share your thoughts and opinions in the comments below, or join the Tech4Gamers Forums for more details.

Battlefield 6: EA Paying Content Creators Millions of Dollars For Marketing

Story Highlight
  • EA is set to kick off the Battlefield 6 marketing campaign with a major reveal tomorrow.
  • Reports indicate that the publisher has invested millions in promoting content creators for this reveal.
  • Content creators have received a substantial amount of money, in addition to an all-expenses-paid trip, to promote the game.

EA made Battlefield 6 official earlier this week, confirming a worldwide reveal for July 24. Ahead of this date, excitement for the series’ return was already high, with the publisher setting an ambitious 100 million target for a mighty return to form.

As part of this plan, the gaming giant has also invested a large sum of money into the marketing efforts. In fact, a new report outlines that millions of dollars have been paid to content creators alone.

Why it matters: Paying content creators for positive word of mouth is becoming an increasingly common marketing tactic in the industry. However, it has raised concerns about biased coverage.

Battlefield 6
Battlefield 6 Is Attempting To Course Correct after The Last Game

As reported by the reliable Tom Henderson, EA has planned all-expenses paid trips for the biggest content creators to promote Battlefield 6.

The report states that these plans were in motion as early as last month, but content creators seem to have received additional incentives. According to anonymous sources, content creators have received ‘substantial amounts of money’ as part of the upcoming event.

EA’s funding serves as an incentive for content creators to cover Battlefield 6 at the big upcoming event and during the Beta period. It is reported that this is the largest amount of money content creators have ever received for an event of this kind.

Following the report, it’s clear that EA is doing everything it can to spread positivity regarding Battlefield. However, fans on social media have already expressed caution after the debacle of Battlefield 2042.

Battlefield Series
Battlefield 6 Is Being Led By Vince Zampella

Battlefield 6 is being marketed as a return to form for the long-standing series. It focuses on core elements like destruction, large-scale warfare, and more, setting the stage for the series’ biggest release to date.

Still, EA’s decision to pay content creators for promotions may add further doubts within the community until they get to play the game during the Beta period.

What do you think about EA’s strategy to promote the franchise? Do you agree with this approach? Let us know in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.

Multiple Developers Say They Prioritize PS5 For Their Titles Over Other Platforms

Story Highlight
  • Developers claim that they prefer the PS5 over other platforms based on the numbers.
  • It seems like the logical thing to do, considering the console’s high sales.
  • Even the Ori developers are considering skipping Xbox for No Rest For The Wicked.

The console war has been dead since the current generation of consoles was released. While the Xbox Series X is a more powerful console than the base PS5, it is lagging significantly behind in sales, and Microsoft has become more of a publisher than a console maker.

Even the developers and studios say they prefer the PS5 over other platforms. This comes from notable names in the industry, such as the studios behind titles like Ori, No Rest For The Wicked, Test Drive, and more.

Why it matters: On many occasions, developers have claimed that developing games on the PS5 is a lot easier. Additionally, given the high sales of Sony’s console, it is a safe bet for most companies.

Consoles without Disc Reader
Many developers say they prefer PS5 over other platforms.

Recently, a developer working on Test Drive Unlimited stated that Steam statistics aren’t the best way to measure their game’s success. Instead, PS5 is their biggest platform, and it has the highest number of concurrent players for the game.

He said that the PS5 community is a lot bigger, so judging the title alone by Steam metrics isn’t the way to go. You just don’t see the PS5 numbers this easily because they aren’t available like they are on Steam.

Now, Moon Studios, known for Ori, says that prioritizing PS5 for game development is the logical thing to do based on the numbers. They’ve also hinted that No Rest For The Wicked is likely to skip the Xbox launch.

Even Xbox itself has marked a huge shift in strategy, releasing its flagship titles on the PS5. Recent reports also reveal that titles like Indiana Jones did better on the PlayStation compared to the Xbox, so this seems like the logical way forward

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers Review Roundup – A Near Perfect Soulslike Undone by Boss and Level Design

Story Highlight
  • Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is getting good reviews, but also has clear problems.
  • The main criticisms are unbalanced boss difficulty, confusing level design, and performance issues on the PS5.
  • Despite its flaws, most agree the game is a worthwhile experience for fans of the genre.

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, set to release on July 24 for PC and current-gen consoles, has won praise as a strong addition to the Soulslike genre. But it also drew consistent complaints about its boss balancing and winding level design.

Why it matters: Critics agree that Wuchang stands out for its combat, Chinese-inspired setting, and detailed world design, but it’s not without flaws.

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers Metacritic score.
  • TechRadar – 9
  • DualShockers – 9
  • IGN – 8
  • ComicBook – 8
  • Noisy Pixel – 7.5

Most critics agree that the game stands out for its satisfying combat. Critics appreciated the variety of playstyles, ranging from dodging to utilizing weapon skills, although some may be overpowered.

Some critics pointed out the clash mechanic and Skyborn Might system, saying it made battles feel exciting and gave them the same sense of power as the bosses they faced.

The game’s setting, late-Ming China mixed with supernatural touches, also makes a strong impression. Many reviewers called it one of the best world maps they’ve seen, packed with hand-crafted temples, villages, and forests that pull you into the experience.

Despite the praise, many reviewers had issues with the boss fights and level design. Critics mentioned that boss difficulty felt uneven and that the madness system could be frustrating.

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers Outfits
The game has some of the best-looking armor.

One media outlet noted that the boss fights felt too difficult and the level design was inconsistent, stating that the game was more frustrating than fun. Some reviewers also mentioned performance issues on the PS5, with frequent performance problems detracting from the experience.

Another reviewer warned that the brutal difficulty might force players to take breaks after repeatedly losing to bosses. Some areas felt more annoying than enjoyable, similar to the famously difficult Blighttown level from Dark Souls.

Some gamers who got their hands on a copy early noted the game’s challenging combat, which can be fun for some, but their primary concern was the performance issues on consoles. PC performance remains to be seen.

Still, most reviewers agree the game’s best moments make it worth playing. For fans seeking challenging encounters and a fresh cultural twist on the genre, Wuchang offers a memorable ride, albeit one that occasionally struggles with sudden difficulty spikes and confusing level design.

Xbox Set To Introduce Cloud-Only Subscription Plan, Teases Update

Story Highlight
  • A backend Xbox update teases several new changes to cloud gaming.
  • Microsoft may be gearing up to introduce new cloud-only subscription tiers to further expand this part of the business.
  • Games like GTA 5, Genshin Impact, and more could be included in this push.

Microsoft’s push for cloud gaming has yielded some interesting results. The gaming giant boasts tens of millions of cloud users on the platform today, suggesting that the service is growing dramatically with each passing day.

Amid the growth, a series of backend updates also suggests that something more is being worked on to promote Xbox cloud gaming. It appears Microsoft may be working on a new subscription plan for cloud gaming.

Why it matters: As gaming expands beyond the living room and proprietary hardware devices, cloud functionality is poised to become increasingly important.

Xbox Cloud Gaming Is Improving With Each Passing Year

Over on Bluesky, redphx pointed out that various Game Pass titles have been added to unknown programs within the xCloud files.

These programs are denoted Callisto, Dia, Europa, and Ferdinand, with games like Doom 64 and Genshin Impact being included in all four. On the other hand, a title like GTA 5 is only included in Callisto and Dia, suggesting that Microsoft is preparing new updates for xCloud.

Redphx believes these updates point to incoming streaming-only plans from Xbox. Interestingly, reliable insider Jez Corden previously suggested Microsoft was working on new cloud-only tiers for Xbox Game Pass.

As such, this backend update could be an indication that Microsoft is finally putting these plans into motion. Perhaps an official announcement is also on the way.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows And Other Ubisoft Titles Expected To Release On Switch 2 Later This Year

Story Highlight
  • Assassin’s Creed Shadows is hinted to arrive on Switch 2 later this year by Ubisoft.
  • This hint practically confirms previous rumors of such a port.
  • Ubisoft has other titles planned for the handheld, too, including an unannounced title that could be a remake of Prince of Persia Sands of Time.

Ubisoft’s apparent blockbuster RPG failed to make the expected waves, but the publisher still holds some hope for the title.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows might be arriving on the Switch 2 console later this year, perhaps giving the game a little boost in sales. Ubisoft has recently hinted at such a port, which perfectly aligns with previous reports.

Why it matters: Nintendo audiences aren’t mostly familiar with AAA titles. As such, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows will provide a new and exciting experience for gamers.

Assassin's Creed Shadows
Ubisoft Executives Say That AC Shadows Has Set The Bar High For Their Future Games

In the latest investor call at Ubisoft, CEO Yves Guillemot discussed the roadmap for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, while also hinting at a new port for a different platform.

we have also some new versions (of the game) that will come on other machines

Later in the meeting, an invest outright asked the CFO Frédérick Duguet if the Switch 2 was capable enough to handle Assassin’s Creed Shadows to which Duguet declined to comment.

They’re obviously referring to Switch 2 as the “other machines” since the handheld is the only device capable of handling the title. There would be no sense in releasing the game on last-gen consoles or mobile phones.

Previously, a PEGI rating also mentioned Switch 2 as a platform for the RPG, implying that a port was in the works. A French news channel has also confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Mirage would be headed to Switch 2 this year.

Additionally, Ubisoft also mentioned Star Wars Outlaw headed to the Switch 2 and another unannounced title for the platform, set to release before March 2026. The aforementioned game could be Prince of Persia Sands of Time Remake, but we’ll find out soon enough.

As to when Assassin’s Creed Shadows will arrive on Switch 2, a best guess would be in September alongside the Claws of Awaji expansion. Assassin’s Creed Mirage was also reportedly getting a DLC, so expect a Switch 2 announcement then too.
