EA Does Not Want To Raise Game Prices Yet!

Story Highlight
  • During a Q&A in the recent earnings call, EA confirmed it is not raising game prices despite Xbox and Nintendo doing so.
  • The CEO wants EA to deliver the same quality regardless of the pricing, while the CFO confirms no changes have been made.
  • However, EA could increase the pricing of its premium offerings in the future to meet the new standard.

Whether it’s because of failing releases or contentious remarks, EA has often found itself at the center of controversy over the years. However, an unexpected and altruistic decision made by the company is being appreciated by gamers across the industry.

EA executives have refused to increase the pricing of its premium AAA offerings despite Xbox and Nintendo pushing ahead with the $80 price tags. The company has decided to stick with the old structure because it does not see a need to raise prices yet.

Why it matters: EA not increasing the price of its premium entries is widely appreciated, especially when Xbox and Nintendo have already confirmed to target the $80 price tags.

Xbox and Nintendo have announced raising their premium game prices, while PS has been silent.

During a Q&A in the Q4 and FY2025 earnings call, EA’s CFO confirms that no changes have been made to the pricing of current or future AAA games after deliberation. However, it’s unclear how long the firm will hold out with the old standard in this declining economy.

From a games perspective we put out, we have reflected no changes in our current strategy at this point.

EA CEO Andrew Wilson accepts that the business has changed immensely over the last decade. Still, he clarifies that the company’s goal is to deliver ‘incredible quality and exponential value’ to gamers regardless of what pricing structure is used.

And what we’ve discovered over the course of time is whether we can marry quality and value together, our business is strong, resilient and continues to grow.

Battlefield
Battlefield 6 is shaping up to be EA’s next big venture.

This move by EA has been admired, while gamers have criticized Xbox and Nintendo for the price hikes, especially because Series X now also costs more than PS5.

Do you think EA will hold to its word and keep its premium game prices locked at $70 for the next few years? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.
