- Battlefield 6’s free trial has once again failed to create a lasting Steam player-count boost.
- Steam shows that the game has failed to even hit 100K players despite being free to play right now.
- The weak response raises questions about Battlefield 6’s future yet again.
Battlefield 6’s downfall has been quite interesting to follow, since the game debuted as 2025’s best-selling title. In the months that have followed since its release, it has rapidly lost player interest, and even recent updates have failed to do much for the first-person shooter.
EA also resorted to a free trial for the game this week, but these efforts seem to have done little to move the needle.
Why it matters: This is not the first time Battlefield 6 has seen disappointing results following the arrival of a free trial. The latest disappointment raises red flags for the first-person shooter’s longevity.

The latest free trial for Battlefield 6 kicked off on August 18 and runs till August 25. This move has come right around Modern Warfare 4’s upcoming beta, but it seems EA’s efforts have been to no avail.
The free trial has done little to bring back lapsed players on PC. As of recently, the game has peaked at 63K concurrent players, an amount very typical for the first-person shooter as of the last few weeks.
In fact, earlier this month, the game showed higher player counts on multiple occasions. It’s possible that more players will join the free trial over the weekend, but as it stands, the situation seems grim for Battlefield 6.

Ultimately, this disappointment shows once again that Battlefield 6’s struggles can’t be simply solved through a free trial. Dice and EA must do something about the situation promptly if they plan on supporting the game for as long as other successful live-service releases.
What do you think Battlefield 6 needs most right now? Why do you think it failed to entice players, even with a free ongoing trial?
