Final Verdict—What We Recommend?
RX 7900 GRE: This is a solid card that offers great 1440p performance, especially for single-player games. It is equivalent to RTX 4070 Super but showcases slightly higher performance and is relatively cheaper as well. Unlike atrocious prices of other cards, its price is fairly reasonable and serves as an attraction.
RX 9070 XT: This is a solid release from AMD that could position it as the more sought after card company this year, and could even overshadow Nvidia since their new releases aren’t worth it. It did offer great 1440p performance and could easily push 4K with high FPS using its advanced FSR 4.
Conclusively, we expect that the RX 9070 XT’s price will increase well over the price of the RX 7900 GRE given that its performance is relatively higher. If it falls in the same range as the RX 7900 GRE, then you’re getting a steal deal. If it doesn’t, we recommend you get the RX 7900 GRE because it is absolutely worth its price.
The RX 9070 XT is a more future-proof choice compared to the RX 7900 GRE because of its PCIe gen 5, higher clocks, advanced RDNA 4 architecture, and better AI performance. FSR 4 provides better image clarity while boosting frames. It also provides a much sharper motion and in some cases, the image quality is much better compared to DLSS 4. While both GPUs come with an AV1 encoder, the RX 9070 XT has a more efficient AV1 encoder, making it better for streaming high-quality videos at lower bitrates. The RX 9070 XT has 64 Computer Units (CU) and 4,096 Stream Processors (SP) whereas the RX 7900 GRE contains 80 CUs and 5,120 SPs. While the vast majority of the RX 9070 XT variants use a 2x 8-pin power connector, some variants do use the 12V-2×6 power connector.FAQs
