I Don’t Want To See GTA 6 Bringing Back These Mechanics From Past Games

Story Highlight
  • The GTA series always follows a very tried-and-true formula, but GTA 6 needs to fundamentally change many of Rockstar’s existing tropes.
  • Elements like excessive driving, linear gameplay, and more hold the series back from reaching its true potential.
  • GTA 6 should either eliminate these elements or modify them to improve the experience.

No franchise is as big as Grand Theft Auto today. Just consider the fact that practically everyone, whether they are fond of games or not, is aware of the IP, and you’ll know how big Rockstar’s magnum opus is. Even for me, GTA Vice City played an important role in my gaming journey.

I adore most of the entries in the series, but they are far from perfect. GTA 6 is coming next year, and in my opinion, this title needs to be the one to address this IP’s biggest drawbacks once and for all.

With Take-Two making bold claims about GTA 6, the game cannot afford to repeat past mistakes.

Why it matters: The series has relied on an established template that has rarely changed over the years. These mechanics often come across as redundant and outdated.

Excessive Linearity

Grand Theft Auto GTA 5
Despite Its Open World, GTA 5 Is Extremely Linear

Every GTA game I have ever played is linear. There is no freedom in the franchise whatsoever.

Most Rockstar games are open-world, but surprisingly, they offer little to no non-linearity, which is my main concern. During the mission, if you deviate from the precise set of instructions even a little, you will see the famous “Mission Failed” text pop up.

This is far from ideal and quickly becomes annoying. I hope to see GTA 6 making full use of its open-world and breaking away from this trend next year. Even Red Dead Redemption 2 suffers from a similar problem since Rockstar has become too comfortable with this mission structure.

However, Red Dead Revolver didn’t have a similar problem. I wouldn’t mind seeing similar levels of freedom in Grand Theft Auto since GTA 6 is supposed to be a once-in-a-generation game.

I doubt Rockstar will release another entry in the series anytime soon, so non-linearity is practically necessary to innovate the open-world genre.

The Police System Needs To Change

Which of the Rockstar games do you think has the worst police system ?
by inGTA

Grand Theft Auto wouldn’t be itself without the police. The cat-and-mouse chases between players and cops are fundamental to the GTA experience, but I found GTA 5’s police system to be a remnant of a very old era.

For starters, whenever you commit a crime, and nobody sees you, how do the police automatically learn about the crime? I know that if someone sees you commit a crime, they can report it to the police.

However, once a crime is reported, how do the police identify you so quickly? Even if you change cars, the police can identify you almost instantly. I found Red Dead Redemption 2’s Wanted system better in this regard, but GTA 6 needs to push the envelope further.

No Checkpoints

Kate's Death In GTA 4
The Checkpoint Problem Is A Major One In GTA

There are many instances in the series where players are given no checkpoints. Every open-world should have checkpoints during main missions since the lack of checkpoints can quickly become an annoyance in these settings.

I clearly remember going through difficult missions in GTA San Andreas and GTA 4; repeating those missions was a drag. Checkpoints would have made the experience much better, so I hope to see Rockstar making major strides in this regard.

For instance, in Cyberpunk 2077, you get a lot of checkpoints while doing a mission, not to mention you can also quickly save the game. If Rockstar can’t do something similar, then short missions with better gameplay mechanics would be the way to go.

A Lot of Driving

Realistic Mod
Many Fans Were Annoyed By Excessive Driving In The Previous GTA Games

I don’t mind driving in massive open worlds, but this shouldn’t be necessary during main missions.

I know driving is a fundamental part of the experience, but I have always been unhappy with the core loop of driving to a location to initiate a mission and then driving to another location for the actual mission.

These sections often help provide exposition and context before the missions get going, but there has to be a better way to do things. Even in Red Dead Redemption 2, half of the mandatory horse rides exist for the sake of exposition.

Anyhow, these are just a few things I hope to see gone or fundamentally changed in GTA 6. Not much is known about the game for now, but another trailer is expected soon. Take-Two has also emphasized Rockstar’s ambitions multiple times, so I hope to see the studio living up to these claims.

AIDA64 – Why It Is The Best PC Benchmarking Tool

AIDA64 is a renowned enthusiast-level software that offers a lot of different functionalities such as in-depth stress tests, detailed system information and benchmarks for various components like CPU, GPU, memory & storage. It is primarily a stress-testing utility with a lot of features baked in. This is also why it’s paid software with a limited-time trial version.

You can download the trial software straight from AIDA64’s official website and choose the AIDA64 Extreme version.

User Interface and Usability

As far as the UI is concerned, you are greeted with an old-fashioned yet functional user interface with a lot going on but in a streamlined manner. You can navigate through the available features and settings in two different styles. On the right side, you can access everything, such as system summary, OC settings, power management, sensors, and more, via their icons. Similarly, on the left side, you can navigate the menu with the provided tabs all on the same page.

Besides that, AIDA64 comes in handy if you want to verify your PC is completely stable with the new settings you applied. Or if you’re looking to evaluate the system’s performance against the competition in its database.

Core Features

AIDA64 Extreme contains some of the coolest enthusiast-level features; a few that are the most important are:

  1. In-depth system diagnostics & information.
  2. Stress test for all components.
  3. Benchmark for CPU, GPU, memory & storage.
  4. System monitoring sensors.
  5. Shortcut for drivers & bios updates.

Stress Test

The stress test is its most popular feature because AIDA64 can stress test RAM, storage, cache, and FPU besides the CPU & GPU. During the stress test, the software puts a load by giving computational tasks to the CPU & GPU, as well as making them generate a lot of heat by allowing them to draw maximum power. The memory and storage devices are thrown into read/write tasks that go on until the stress test is over.

Moreover, you can monitor the usage, voltages, clocks, and temperatures in the graphs given below. Not to mention, if something goes wrong during the stability test, the utility notifies the user by mentioning the error in the status bar.

Benchmark

Besides the stress test, AIDA64 also has a benchmarking tool that can benchmark the system memory, storage, CPU, and GPU. The AIDA64 runs complex calculations on the CPU and GPU, which they already do, but not too many at once. Also, it doesn’t include 3D performance testing.

For memory and storage drives, it tests their read/write speeds, cache, and also latency to produce a detailed report to compare with the competition.

Monitoring Sensors

Alongside those two, AIDA64 allows you to monitor the temperature and voltages of every component in real-time as well. You can use the included monitoring feature by accessing the sensors tab from either side of the menu. From there, you can monitor stuff like CPU core voltage, fan speeds, DIMM voltage, SoC voltage, the temperature of the motherboard, VRM, CPU diode, PCI-E, Aux, GPU, Storage drive, and a lot of other components. It’s very much like HWinfo in terms of looks and function.

Benchmarking Tools

As we mentioned everything in detail earlier, AIDA64 Extreme is beneficial for enthusiasts because it can benchmark things like cache, memory, storage drives, CPU & GPU. We can benchmark pretty much everything from this app alone and don’t have to opt for other alternatives to test each of the components.

Pros and Cons

What We Liked What We Disliked
Benchmarks all components. License-based paid app.
System monitoring in real-time. A little confusing for new users.
Drivers & bios updater. Can’t benchmark 3D performance.
Detailed system information.
System stability test.

Comparison with Competitors

AIDA64, in comparison with Geekbench, Cinebench, and MSI Afterburner, has some edge. Simply because those tools primarily cater to either CPU, GPU, or both, that’s about it. However, the AIDA64 suite offers a lot of distinct and useful features that also cover the things that the competition can’t, like memory, storage drive, cache stability tests, and benchmarks.

Use Cases

We use AIDA64 extensively in our reviews related to CPU, GPU, memory kits, and storage drives. We use it to ensure their stability and performance when paired with different components and how they stack up against other combinations. You can do the same, especially while opting for overclocking, to verify the stability and performance gains.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

  • Wrong Sensor Readings: If the sensor readings on the app seem to be incorrect, then it could be due to outdated drivers or bios. Make sure to install the latest hardware drivers and update the bios, either from within the app or manually from the web, to fix the issue at hand.
  • Crash During Stability Test: In case you encounter software or system crashes, it’s definitely related to the hardware side of things. If you have done overclocking or undervolting, then you better change those and try to test again to find the stable value.
  • Invalid License: In a situation like where you have bought the license, but the key isn’t being activated for some reason. It might be because the key is used or invalid, contacting AIDA64 online support will help you resolve the issue more effectively.

Glossary of Terms

  • Latency: The time it takes to complete the requested action, the delay in between all this is called latency.
  • Throughput: The total data that a system can process within a given time frame is called throughput and is usually measured in MB/s or Gb/s.
  • Stress Test: A test through which the stability and performance of the system is measured by taxing the system to its limits is called a stress test.
  • Cache: This is a very fast and small memory inside a CPU and is responsible for storing data that is accessed frequently, it ensures quick processing.
  • TDPThermal design power is the maximum power a component like a CPU or GPU generates when pushed to its limits.

Cyberpunk 2077 Is The Best Open World Game I Have Ever Played

Story Highlight
  • Having played many open-world games, Cyberpunk 2077 still shocked me to my core.
  • The game has a brilliant open world, story, characters, and combat system.
  • After 100 hours of gameplay, it is the best open-world game I have ever played.

I have played every single GTA entry, Watch Dogs, Sleeping Dogs, Red Dead Redemption 2, and numerous other open-world games out there. Let’s just say I am a huge open-world fan who enjoys exploration.

Elden Ring is another favorite of mine, though I don’t necessarily count it in the same category because of the distinctions that come with the Souls-like genre. Anyhow, my quest to further explore the genre recently led me to Cyberpunk 2077.

I must admit that I’ve been ignoring this CDPR RPG for a really long time. In my defense, the game was in no condition to be played at launch, and I never got around to playing it later on. However, my first playthrough of Cyberpunk 2077 has left me in awe of CDPR’s work.

Why it matters: Cyberpunk 2077 was plagued with so many glitches and bugs on release that it was unplayable, but the RPG is in a completely different situation now

Cyberpunk 2077 Is A Never Ending Treat

The Cyberpunk 2077 Experience Is Unforgettable | Image via Tech4Gamers

I picked up Cyberpunk 2077 two weeks ago and already spent over 100 hours on the game; that’s how great it is.

The main story starts slow and a bit boring, but once you get stuck with Jhonny Silverhand, things immediately become interesting. It seems like a crime that I didn’t know how good of a character Jhonny Silverhand is. He is my favorite character in gaming history right now because of how well he is written.

At first, he just wants to kill you, but as the story progresses, you can see how his character changes. When he talks to you and gives you advice, it feels like he is talking to you in real life, and I just can’t get over that feeling. And his side quests? They are simply the best.

V aims to make a name for himself in the Night City, and Jhonny understands that. He does everything to save V’s life so he can continue living, making for one of gaming’s most iconic duos and friendships.

Cruising In Night City Never Gets Old

Rock Music in Cyberpunk 2077
Night City Has A Vibe I Can Never Get From Another Game | Image via Tech4Gamers

Even after playing for over 100 hours, I am still discovering new places in Night City. Cruising in Night City is just so fun, and it is an experience that no other setting has been able to match.

Imagine driving through the streets and listening to the Outsider No More or Valentino Combat Theme; the Chooms probably know what I am talking about. The experience is so relaxing that you can simply lose yourself in Night City’s melancholic yet marvelous vibe.

The city is also full of things to do. Complete side quests, explore the many nooks and crannies of Night City, or just interact with the RPG’s rich cast. I also think Cyberpunk 2077 has some of the best side quests in gaming, so you should not ignore this part of the game.

Completing the side quests alone can lead to hundreds of hours of gameplay, and these are definitely worth your time since they add to the experience.

Preem Combat Mechanics

The Combat Provides A Solid Experience

This game not only has one of the best open worlds, stories, and side quests but also one of the best combat systems of any RPG. I am addicted to the combat system, and if you have yet to see the madness of Cyberpunk 2077’s combat after update 2.0, then try it out as soon as possible.

The combat is rich and offers enough build diversity to keep the gameplay fresh for hours upon hours. A plethora of skills and abilities in your arsenal means that fighting in Night City is rarely dull.

My favorite weapon ended up being the Mentis blades. There’s just no other feeling like using a katana to deflect bullets. What it comes down to is the fact that you are basically a cyborg installed with deadly weapons; what could be cooler than that? Unlocking new abilities and testing them on the enemies is as fun as it can get.

If this RPG was released in this condition, then I am 100% sure it would have won Game of The Year in 2021.

That year was already light on competition, but I would even bet that Cyberpunk 2077 would have been able to beat The Last of Us Part 2 if it was nominated in 2020. While it’s a shame this didn’t happen, I urge everyone to give the RPG another shot today.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Dev Says Star Wars Outlaws Is Best AAA Game In Years

Story Highlight
  • Following Star Wars Outlaws’ release, everyone is sharing their thoughts on the first open-world Star Wars experience.
  • Larian Studios’ publishing director seems to be enjoying his time with the game.
  • He compared the gameplay to Splinter Cell’s exciting stealth.

Star Wars Outlaws has been available for multiple days at this point, and audiences have been quite divided about Ubisoft’s first major release in many months.

On one hand, many users have shared clips of bugs and glitches on social media. However, on the other hand, it seems some fans have genuinely enjoyed Massive Entertainment’s take on the IP.

The Baldur’s Gate 3 publishing director seems to be in the latter group, stating that he loves the experience.

Why it matters: This is an interesting response since Star Wars Outlaws has received more criticism than praise from the general fandom.

Star Wars Outlaws
Image via Twitter

Taking to Twitter, Michael Douse confirmed that he had played about 10 hours of Star Wars Outlaws.

He went on to compare the title with Splinter Cell, which is quite appropriate since Massive Entertainment’s core gameplay loop revolves around stealth. For more on the gameplay, read our full review here.

Michael Douse even went on to say that Star Wars Outlaws is the best AAA game he has played in years. This is high praise coming from someone who was part of the Baldur’s Gate 3 development team, a title that swept game awards across the industry last year.

I don’t like it, I actually love it.

As Michael Douse explained, it’s not unusual for him to enjoy games that are often rated below 80 100. As such, it’s quite fitting that the developer enjoyed Star Wars Outlaws since it ended up with a 78/100 average on Metacritic.

The publishing director is also using the OneXPlayer Mini handheld to explore the Star Wars open world, so he has not yet experienced the full scope of the visuals and gameplay at smooth frame rates yet.

Perhaps he will enjoy the title even more once he experiences it in all its glory on a PC or current-generation console.

Star Wars Outlaws Hype Seems Non-Existent On Release Day

Story Highlight
  • Star Wars Outlaws has just been launched, but no one is talking about this game.
  • Ubisoft allocated the biggest marketing budget for this release, but it might have been all in vain.
  • This could lead to low sales for the first open-world Star Wars release, setting a concerning precedent ahead of Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

Ubisoft has been the center of criticism for a long time now. The gaming giant can’t catch a break and seems to be caught in some controversy every now and then. This is proving to troublesome for the developer since both of its biggest releases this year have been met with skepticism.

We previously reported that Star Wars Outlaws’ marketing looked suspiciously quiet. However, the excitement seems nearly non-existent now that the game has been out in early access for three days.

Why it matters: Ubisoft said that Star Wars Outlaws would have the biggest marketing budget it ever allocated to a game. In theory, this should have led to incredible buzz for the past few days.

Star Wars Outlaws
Image via Twitter

This should be concerning for Ubisoft, as it seems that fans are not very interested in the publisher’s take on Star Wars.

The game just launched globally, but looking at social media, it’s clear that barely anyone is talking about it. As journalist Destin Legarie points out, Ubisoft itself seems to be unusually quiet too.

Following the review embargo, plenty of details about Star Wars Outlaws flooded social media. This led to the expectation that people would discuss the game further in the days leading up to the launch, but this does not seem to be the case.

In fact, many players have shared clips of bugs and glitches. Stealth is also quite sluggish in these clips, leading to negativity around the title. If you want to learn more, make sure to read our detailed review for all the details.

Moreover, the average review score wasn’t that great on Metacritic either. Fans may now be waiting for more gameplay footage before getting themselves excited.

What’s interesting is that Ubisoft’s CEO previously failed to share any encouraging comments about Star Wars Outlaws’ pre-orders. A rumor also suggests that retail pre-orders have been much worse than anticipated. However, this information has yet to be verified.

Nonetheless, fans seem uninterested in the publisher’s returning open-world formula. While Star Wars and Ubisoft’s open-world formula seemed like a match made in heaven, the current situation is quite gloomy.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Potentially Suffering From Poor Pre-Orders

Story Highlights
  • Assassin’s Creed Shadows is reportedly facing very poor physical pre-order figures in the US.
  • Across nearly 900 stores, there have been only about 800 pre-orders for PS5 and Xbox consoles.
  • Previously, Ubisoft also refused to comment on the pre-order figures when asked by investors.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is set to launch in just a few months. Ubisoft’s upcoming game has been plagued with controversy, ranging from the protagonist to the historical accuracy. It also seems that Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ pre-orders are suffering due to these issues.

Why it matters: Ubisoft labelled this entry as one of the biggest games of 2024. However, due to all the controversy and the not-so-good gameplay showcases, fans seem skeptical about the release.

Assassin's Creed Shadows
Assassin’s Creed Shadows Features Two Playable Characters

According to Craig Skistimas from the Side Scrollers Podcast, the game’s pre-order numbers don’t seem too impressive. He revealed that this information comes from a source who works in high-traffic game stores in one of the most populated areas of the US.

His source told him that across 900 stores, there have been only 800 pre-orders for Assassin’s Creed Shadows when looking at the PS5 and Xbox Series S|X consoles. This puts the game at less than 1 pre-order per store.

While we suggest taking this information with a grain of salt, Ubisoft was quite hesitant to talk about pre-order figures in the past. During the recent investor call, the company had no proper answer when CEO Yves Guillemot asked about pre-order figures for Star Wars Outlaws and Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

Following this response, many believe that numbers may not be what the company was anticipating.

Assassin's Creed Shadows
Community Sentiment Around Assassin’s Creed Shadows Is Mixed At Best

It should be noted that if these numbers are indeed true, they are for physical pre-orders. Most gamers nowadays prefer digital purchases, so digital pre-orders likely make up for the bulk of current spending on this Assassin’s Creed entry.

Still, the community sentiment around the game has been far from positive, which could ultimately affect the sales. Yves Guillemot expects Assassin’s Creed Shadows to be one of Ubisoft’s best-selling releases, but only time will tell if these expectations are met.

Warner Bros Reportedly Working On Game Based On The Batman

Story Highlight
  • Warner Bros is planning a new game set in The Batman universe.
  • The second film in this series is scheduled to release in 2026.
  • DC could recapture Batman Arkham’s success with this new gaming adaptation.

The Batman has been one of Warner Bros’ most successful film projects in recent years. After a shaky take on Batman in the Snyderverse, director Matt Reeves brought forth a more grounded approach to the world’s greatest detective, successfully kickstarting a whole new franchise.

Warner Bros is currently in the process of expanding this IP with sequels, spin-offs, and more. According to a report, this expansion will also lead to a new game based on The Batman universe.

Why it matters: The Batman Arkham franchise became famous as the best superhero series more than a decade ago. Warner Bros could be looking to recapture this success with a completely fresh take on Batman games.

The Batman Immediately Became A Hit Among The Fans

As reported by Culture Crave, a new interview with David Zaslav points to a brand-new game project. While details about this project are slim, it will be set directly in Matt Reeves’ shared universe.

Currently, the director is working on The Batman 2 after the first film’s success. Colin Farrell has also returned as the Penguin in a separate TV spin-off, highlighting the efforts to grow this universe.

The prospect of a new Batman game is immediately exciting. Following Rocksteady’s excellent last game, the caped crusader has not shown up in a solo game for nearly a decade.

If a new project takes direct inspiration from the Arkham franchise, it could be an immediate success. Alternatively, Warner Bros could bring something completely new to the table since the publisher previously experimented with a similar adaptation for Christopher Nolan’s Batman universe.

Batman Arkham Knight
Batman Arkham Knight Concluded Rocksteady’s Work On The Series

It’s also important to note that James Gunn also intends to focus on gaming as part of his plans for the DCU. Therefore, the studio will approach such adaptations with a lot of thought and care.

Whatever direction Warner Bros heads in, the sky is the limit. The Batman is currently on track to launch in 2026, and an announcement around the same time could be a huge deal for the gaming industry.

Stalker 2 Currently Runs At 25FPS On Xbox Series S

Story Highlight
  • Stalker 2 will finally be released later this year.
  • Regarding its performance, the team has confirmed that they are working to optimize the title for Xbox Series S to achieve better results.
  • It is currently running at about 25FPS, but a 60FPS mode will be provided on the Xbox Series X.

Stalker 2 has been in development for many years. Finally, after many delays, the game is set to be released later this year and is currently one of the most anticipated titles of late 2024.

While talking about Stalker 2 running on different platforms, the developers have confirmed that the game doesn’t even run at 30FPS on Xbox Series S in its current state.

Why it matters: The Xbox Series S is currently the most difficult console for developers to work with, and GSC Game World’s experience shows yet another example of its limitations.

STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl
Stalker 2 Is Using Unreal Engine 5 For Next-Gen Visuals

During a recent interview with Wccftech, Lead Producer Slava Lukyanenka discussed multiple aspects of the development, including the hurdles the team faced during the optimization process.

While replying to one of the questions about the Xbox Series S, the lead producer stated that the team is confident it can still achieve solid results with enough hard work and effort.

He says the team has two modes for Xbox Series X: performance mode, which runs at 60 FPS, and quality mode, which runs at 30 FPS but offers high resolution. The team plans to combine both to achieve similar results in Series S.

Not yet. So far, we have it at 25ish FPS on the Xbox Series S, but we still have space to optimize.

-Slava Lukyanenka

While the Xbox Series S currently falls short of the 30FPS target, the developers are hopeful about reaching a solid frame rate before the release.

STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl
Stalker 2 Will Be Released Day One On Game Pass

Overall, Game Science is quite confident. After years of hard work, the studio seems ready to release Stalker 2, with no more delays expected. The game is finally arriving in November, so the team is working diligently to make final optimizations for the Xbox Series S.

Because Stalker 2 is built using Unreal Engine 5, the Xbox Series S will be pushed to its limits. PC will remain the best platform for this game, but GSC Game World is doing everything it can to provide an equally compelling experience on consoles.

If this isn’t enough, the company also offers an extensive three-year zero dead pixel and burn-in warranty. The brand-new QD-OLED monitor is now available and can be purchased from Corsair’s retail distribution network. For more information, head over to the official website through this link.
