Architectural Differences

1. Process Node: The newer 7000 series of Ryzen processors use a more advanced 5nm processing node, while the Ryzen 5 5600x uses a 7nm processing node, which was very advanced when it was released.
2. Clock Speed: The Ryzen 5 7600x has a base clock of 4.7GHz, with a boost of up to 5.3GHz. The Ryzen 5 5600x had a much lower floor at 3.7GHz, which could go up to 4.6GHz.
3. L3 Cache: Both processors use the same 32MB L3 cache in their architectures.
4. Memory Support: The newer Ryzen processors exclusively support a newer DDR5 memory standard, while the 5600x exclusively supports DDR4 memory.

Amongst AMD’s Ryzen 5 lineup, we have the latest Ryzen 5 7600x. It’s only natural that we find out how much of an improvement it is over their last-gen 6-core CPU, the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x. Gaming Benchmarks – 1080p

Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered

• Kicking off this comparison, Marvel’s Spiderman ran around 26% better on the newer processor. It had an average framerate of 157 FPS, whereas the 5600x had an average framerate of 124 FPS.
• The 1% lows were around 105 FPS for the 7600x, while the 5600x had lows of around 92 FPS. The results of our tests showed the 7600x to be much smoother than its predecessor.

Microsoft Flight Simulator

• In our test of MS Flight Sim 2020, the 7600X had an average framerate of 102 FPS, which was around 14% higher than the average of the 5600x at 89 FPS.
• The 1% lows were almost the same between the two processors, with the 7600x hanging around 68 FPS, while the 5600x had minimums of 67 FPS.

Total War: Warhammer III

• Total War: Warhammer III had an average framerate of 198 FPS on the 7600x, whereas the Ryzen 5 5600x had an average framerate of closer to 191 FPS. This marked a small 3.6% higher performance for the 7900x in this game.
• The 1% lows showed a large difference between the two processors, with 5600x getting lows of around 123 FPS, while the 7600x had lows closer to 198 FPS.

Halo Infinite

• The average framerate of the Ryzen 5 7600x was around 129 FPS in our test of Halo Infinite, whereas the 5600x was way behind with an average of 98 FPS, which was around 31.5% lower than that of the 7600x.
• The 1% lows did not share as drastic of a difference. The 7600x had lows of 77 FPS, while the 5600x had lows closer to 66 FPS.

Call of Duty: Warzone

• Call Of Duty Warzone ran pretty much the same on both CPUs, indicating that it is a more GPU-heavy title. The average framerate of the 5600x was 243 FPS, which was surprisingly a bit higher than the 238 FPS average of the 7600x.
• The newer CPU regained its throne in terms of 1% lows, with a framerate of around 198 FPS, while the 5600x had a minimum framerate of around 189 FPS.

Apex Legends

• The performance of the 7600x was higher in our test of Apex Legends as well, with an average framerate of 240 FPS, while the 5600x had a lower framerate of 232 FPS. This converts to the newer chip being only 3% faster.
• The 1% lows were higher on the older processor, around 188 FPS. In contrast, the 7600x could only manage a minimum of 180 FPS.

Fortnite

• Our test of Fortnite showed a rather large difference between the two processors. The 5600x was around 12% behind with an average framerate of 327 FPS, while the 7600x had an average framerate of 369 FPS.
• The 1% lows were once again higher on the older processor, around 237 FPS, while the 7600x had lows of 225 FPS.

Watch Dogs: Legion

• Finally, to round out our comparison, we tested Watch Dogs: Legion. The newer processor had quite a lead in this game, with an average framerate of 139 FPS, while the 5600x was 21% slower, with an average framerate of 115 FPS.
• The 1% lows had a similar difference between the two, with the Ryzen 5 5600x having lows of 86 FPS, while the lows of the 7600x were around 105 FPS.

Overall Gaming Performance

Power Draw

In stress tests, the Ryzen 5 7600x consumed notably more power than the Ryzen 5 5600x. Despite the newer processing nodes, the 7600x demonstrated a significant increase in power demand, potentially requiring a new power supply and leading to a higher electricity bill.

Price And Availability

The going price of the Ryzen 5 7600x is around $220, whereas the Ryzen 5 5600x can be had for a dirt cheap $156. Remember that the 7600x is based on a completely new platform, which can substantially add to the cost. As for availability, both of these processors enjoyed a global release, so they should be stocked up at retail stores.

Ryzen 5 5600x: The Ryzen 5 5600x, despite being older, offers ample performance and cost-effectiveness. Its capability remains noteworthy, especially at higher resolutions like 4k and 1440p, making it suitable for those seeking a budget-friendly yet powerful processor.

Ryzen 5 7600x: On the other hand, the Ryzen 5 7600x brings excellent improvements over its predecessor. It is a reality that this chip is noticeably more expensive at the moment, but it might be worth it for people looking for an upgrade path, as well as extra performance.
