AMD Ryzen 5 7600x Vs AMD Ryzen 5 5600x: Differences In Specifications
To compare the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x with the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x, we should first take a look at their specifications.
Released in November 2020, the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x still holds up as one of the fastest CPUs in the market built on the 7nm process. Its successor, the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x, has just been released in September 2022 on the new 5nm Zen 4 platform and continues this trend.
We can see that both processors have the same core and thread counts of 6 cores & 12 threads, as to be expected from the Ryzen 5 lineup. What’s new, on the other hand, are the overwhelming clock speed upgrades from the last gen, with the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x coming at a base clock of 4.7 GHz and a boosted clock speed of 5.3 GHz. Comparatively, the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x is at much slower clock speeds with a stock clock of 3.7 GHz and a boosted clock speed of 4.6 GHz.
Moreover, both the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x and the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x have the same L3 cache of 32MB. However, AMD has doubled the L2 cache of the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x for the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x, which is sitting at 6MB compared to the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x’s 3MB. This should have a good impact on the gaming and productivity benchmarks.
With the new Zen 4 chips, AMD has added support for DDR5 memory, and since it’s running on a newer socket, it has no backward compatibility with DDR4.
Moreover, the power requirements have been significantly increased, with the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x having a TDP of 105 W compared to the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x’s generous TDP of 65 W.
As it’s running on the new AM5 socket, you’ll need to spend quite a bunch on other PC components such as RAM, PSU, and motherboard to enjoy the full capabilities of the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x. The AMD Ryzen 5 5600x, on the other hand, is a much older CPU running on the AM4 socket, which means you can find all the compatible components at cheaper rates.
AMD has also added Radeon Graphics in their Zen 4 chips, including the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x, which can come in handy if your dedicated GPU stops functioning. As you can probably guess, the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x doesn’t have any integrated graphics.

With the specifications out of the way, we can finally compare the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x and AMD Ryzen 5 5600x performance on games. For the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x vs AMD Ryzen 5 5600x gaming comparison, we’ve borrowed the benchmarks done by YT/Jarrod’s Tech. Also, it’s worth mentioning that all benchmarks were done with eco mode turned off so the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x can perform to the best of its abilities.

Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered

Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered is a 2022 action-adventure game and is regarded as one of the best games in the superhero genre. It’s one of the most demanding games to run on PC, especially because of its intensive CPU requirements. This makes it a great starting point to see how much difference we can see between the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x and AMD Ryzen 5 5600x in CPU-intensive games.
For 1080p, the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x was 20% faster than the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x at rendering frames with an average of 101 FPS, compared to the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x, which was outputting 89 FPS.
As for 1440p, the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x was outputting a 14% higher average FPS compared to the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x. The difference between the 1080p and the 1440p resolutions wasn’t that huge in retrospect for both CPUs.
Lastly, with 4K, the difference in average FPS between both the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x and AMD Ryzen 5 5600x was much lower at 3% as the games get entirely GPU bound at such high resolutions.
We can also observe the differences in 1% low FPS drop were the same as the average FPS in all three resolutions.
Microsoft Flight Simulator

Microsoft Flight Simulator was released in 2020, and it’s one of the best amateur flight simulators out there. It’s one of the most demanding games to run on a PC because of its high CPU and GPU requirements. It does require more power coming from the GPU to render everything perfectly, though. Microsoft Flight Simulator was tested in the Sydney landing challenge with all graphics settings turned to high.
For the Microsoft Flight Simulator benchmark at 1080p resolution, the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x was delivering 101 FPS compared to the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x’s 89 FPS. This puts a difference of 12% between the performances of both CPUs.
At 1440p, the results were similar to those at 1080p resolution, just as we observed from the previous benchmark. The AMD Ryzen 5 7600x was outputting an average of 98 FPS compared to the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x’s 85 FPS, putting a difference of 13% in both CPUs.
For 4K, the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x was outputting a mere 2% higher average FPS than the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x because of GPU bottleneck at 4K resolution.
As for 1% lows, the results were very close for both CPUs on all resolution scales, with a difference of just a few FPS.
Total War: Warhammer III

Total War: Warhammer III is another demanding PC game released in 2022. You will need a decent quad-core or above CPU and a high-end GPU to run the game at playable frame rates. It was also tested at the highest settings on 4K, 1440p, and 1080p resolutions.
In Total War: Warhammer III, we saw very small differences across all resolutions because of the GPU bottleneck. In the case of the 1080p test, the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x was 4% ahead of the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x in terms of average FPS, reaching 197 FPS compared to 191 average FPS of the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x.
For 1440p, both CPUs were even closer, reaching the same number of frames per second at 140 FPS.
As for the 4K resolution test, there was no difference between both the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x and the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x, reaching the same number of frames at 76-77 FPS.
For 1% lows at 1080p, we can observe a difference of 16% in favor of the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x, which implies a more stable frame rate. Other than that, the differences at 1440p and 4K were pretty much standard mirroring the results of the average FPS benchmark.
Halo Infinite

Halo Infinite is a first-person shooter game released in 2021 and is the sixth installment in the main Halo franchise. It’s also a CPU-intensive title and was tested at ultra-settings on 1080p, 4K, and 1440p resolutions.
With Halo Infinite, we saw the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x reaching an average of 129 FPS compared to the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x’s 98 FPS at 1080p. This means that the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x was 25% better at rendering frames than the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x.
For 1440p, the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x reached 109 FPS while the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x reached 95 FPS which means that the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x was 13% faster than the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x.
As for the benchmark 4K resolution, the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x and the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x were tied at 73 FPS average.
Lastly, the 1% low FPS drops were pretty much the same as their average FPS counterparts for all 3 resolutions.
Call of Duty: Warzone

Call of Duty Warzone is a popular FPS battle royale game released in 2020 as part of the greater Call of Duty franchise. It’s generally more CPU intensive and doesn’t rely a whole lot on the GPU. It was tested on max settings on different resolutions.
For Call of Duty Warzone, the results were a bit weird. At 1080p, we saw the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x coming out a little ahead of the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x with a difference of 3% in average FPS.
A similar case was observed at the 1440p benchmark, with the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x having a 2% higher average frame rate compared to the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x.
As for 4K, the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x and the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x were tied at 136 FPS.
Regarding 1% lows, the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x was ahead of the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x at 1080p, which implies a more stable frame rate. As for the other two resolutions, the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x as much.
Apex Legends

Apex Legends is another FPS battle royale game that was released in 2019 and quickly gained a lot of attraction. It’s more GPU intensive rather than the CPU. Like others on this list, Apex Legends was also tested at max settings on all resolutions.
With Apex Legends, the differences in performance between the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x vs AMD Ryzen 5 5600x were quite small as well. At 1080p, the results showed the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x reaching 240 FPS compared to the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x’s 231 FPS which means there was a difference of 4% between both CPUs.
As for the 1440p benchmark, the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x was performing 4% better than the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x same as the 1080p benchmark.
For the 4K benchmark, the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x reached 140 FPS compared to the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x’s 132 FPS. This means that the difference in average FPS between the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x and AMD Ryzen 5 7600x was 8%.
For 1080p and 1440p resolutions, the 1% lows were higher in favor of the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x, which means there was a lower but more stable frame rate compared to the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x. On the other hand, the difference was standard at 4K resolution.
Fortnite

Fortnite Battle Royale is a 2017 game and is one of the most popular games in the world. After its release, the game received a lot of updates with additions to both gameplay and graphics. It’s both CPU and GPU intensive, with it relying more on the GPU when engaging in combat with other players. Fortnite was also tested at the highest settings on all 3 resolutions.
For Fortnite, the difference in FPS at 1080p resolution between the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x and AMD Ryzen 5 5600x was 12%, with the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x in the lead at 368 FPS compared to the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x, which was at 326 FPS.
With the 1440p benchmark, the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x reached an average of 312 FPS, whereas the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x reached 298 FPS. This means there was a difference of 4% between the performances of both CPUs.
As for the 4K test, the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x was outputting a slightly higher frame rate of 203 FPS on average against the 197 FPS average of the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x, which means there was a difference of 3% between both processors.
In the Fortnite benchmark, we observed the 1% lows being higher with AMD Ryzen 5 5600x in all resolutions as compared to the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x. This means the average FPS was lower but more stable as compared to the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x.
CS: GO

CS: GO is popular FPS gaming which was released in 2012 as part of the Counter-Strike franchise. It’s a very light game to run on PC as it’s a decade old at this point. It’s mostly CPU dependent which is why we can expect a lot of difference in performance. CS: GO was tested at medium settings on 1080p, 1440p, and 4K resolutions.
In CS: GO benchmark, we saw the biggest differences in FPS with the newer gen compared to other games on the list. For 1080p, the difference was a staggering 23% in favor of the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x over the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x.
At 1440p, there wasn’t a huge drop in performance as the GPU wasn’t causing a bottleneck. The AMD Ryzen 5 7600x was delivering an average 22% higher average FPS compared to the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x.
Lastly, with 4K, the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x was delivering 434 FPS compared to the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x’s 370 FPS. This means there was a difference of 15% between both processors.
As for 1% lows, the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x came ahead at 4K resolution with a more stable frame rate than the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x. Other than that, for 1080p and 1440p, the difference was similar to the average FPS.
Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077, even the newest players to come to PC gaming would be aware of. It’s a 2020 released action roleplaying game that received a lot of backlash after its release for its notorious glitches and bad optimization. It is a highly CPU and GPU-intensive game because of how it’s optimized to run. It was also tested at high settings on three resolutions.
For Cyberpunk 2077 benchmarks, the differences in FPS were quite similar. At 1080p resolution, the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x was performing 6% faster than the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x.
At 1440p, both processors were tied at 112 FPS. Similarly, in the 4K benchmark, both CPUs reached the same average frame rate of 57 FPS.
For 1% lows, the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x dropped at slightly higher frames than the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x at 1440p and 4K resolutions. Otherwise, at 1080p resolution, the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x was ahead in terms of 1% low FPS drops.
The Riftbreaker

The Riftbreaker is a game released in 2021 with a blend of elements from tower defense, RPG, and strategy genres. While it doesn’t require a powerful GPU at 1080p, you’ll need it if you’re willing to play on higher resolutions. Otherwise, it’s a mostly CPU-intensive game. It was also tested using the CPU benchmark at 1080p, 4K, and 1440p resolutions.
In The Riftbreaker benchmark at 1080p, the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x was reaching 170 FPS compared to the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x, which was reaching 128 FPS. This puts a difference of 25% between both CPUs.
For 1440p, the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x reached 166 FPS, and the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x reached 128 FPS which means there was a difference of 23% between both processors. So, there wasn’t a huge dip in performance going from 1080p to 1440p in this game.
For 4K, the performance did take a hit, with the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x having an average of 120 FPS, whereas the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x reached 113 FPS. This means there was a difference of 6% in both processors.
Regarding the 1% lows, there wasn’t anything important to mention, as the dips in the performance graph were similar to the average FPS graph.
Watch Dogs: Legion

The last one on the list we have is the 2020 released action-adventure game, Watch Dogs: Legion. It’s the third installment in the Watch Dogs franchise developed by Ubisoft, and it’s one of the most demanding PC games out there. It’s mostly CPU-dependent but does require more GPU power on higher resolutions. Like others on this list, the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x and the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x were tested on Watch Dogs: Legion at 1080p, 1440p, and 4K resolutions.
In the 1080p benchmark, the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x was performing 17% higher than the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x by reaching an average frame rate of 138 FPS compared to the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x, which was reaching 115 FPS.
For the 1440p test, the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x was 13% faster at outputting frames than the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x by reaching a frame rate of 130 FPS compared to the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x, which was reaching 115 FPS.
Finally, with the 4K tests, we can see a difference of just 3% between both CPUs, with the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x being in the lead at 87 FPS compared to the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x, reaching 86 FPS.
As for the 1% lows, the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x was ahead, maintaining a higher FPS over the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x across all three resolutions, similar to the average FPS graph.
Productivity Benchmarks
In this section, we’ll be comparing the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x vs AMD Ryzen 5 5600x in a number of applications to see how much faster the new gen is for productive tasks. Also, the same PC setup was used in the productivity benchmarks. Except for the Cinebench R23 benchmark, all benchmarks will be done with eco mode turned off.
Cinebench R23

Cinebench R23 is a good starting point to get a general overview of how much difference there is between the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x vs AMD Ryzen 5 5600x in terms of single and multi-core performance. The difference is mentioned in the score given by the Cinebench R23 benchmark, which means the higher the score is, the better the performance.
In Cinebench R23, the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x was tested with eco mode turned on and off. In both scenarios, the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x offered a huge leap in performance compared to the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x.
We can observe the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x performing 22% better than the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x in single-core performance and 27% better in the multi-core test with eco mode turned off.
With eco mode turned on, the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x was performing 22% better in single-core performance and 26% better in multicore performance.
Blender Open Data

A blender is a free software used for developing and rendering 3D graphics. The Blender benchmark was done by rendering out a classroom scene, a junkshop, and a monster model with the time noted for how long it took to complete these tasks.
For the Blender benchmark, both CPUs were tested based on multicore performance. For the Monster rendering, the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x was 28% faster than the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x. Moreover, the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x was 25% faster than the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x at rendering the junkshop scene and 28% faster when rendering the classroom scene.
V-Ray

V-Ray benchmark also puts a lot of load on the CPU to see how it performs and scores it based on the performance. The higher the score is, the better performing the processor.
Same as the previous benchmark, V-Ray also relies on multicore performance. In this benchmark, the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x scored 39% higher than the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x, which is a huge improvement in one generation.
Corona Renderer

Corona Renderer is also another software that notes down the time it takes for the processor to render out a scene. In this case, the lower the time it took to render the scene, the faster the processor is.
For the Corona benchmark, the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x was performing 20% faster than the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x, which is another nice boost over the previous gen.
Linux Kernel Compilation

Linux Kernel Compilation test was done using the Linux OS. The time it took to complete the task was measured in seconds, so the lower the graph, the faster the performance.
With the Linux Kernel Compilation benchmark, the difference in score between the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x and the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x was a staggering 30%.
LLVM Compilation

The LLVM compilation test was also done in the Linux OS. Similar to the previous benchmark, the lesser time taken, the faster the performance.
LLVM compilation test showed similar results to the previous benchmark, with the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x being 27% faster at completing the tasks than the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x.
Handbrake Video Encode

Handbrake is a video editing program that was tested by converting a 37-minute-long video from 4K 60 FPS h.264 to 1080p 30 FPS h.265. The time taken to complete this task was measured in seconds, so the lower it is, the better the performance.
For the Handbrake benchmark, the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x completes the task with a 26% faster speed when compared with the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x.
Adobe Premiere

Adobe Premiere is another video editing workload tested using the Puget System benchmark tool. This tool ranks the performance of the processor according to a score which means the higher the score, the better the performance.
Here we can see that the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x was scoring 16% higher than the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x.
DaVinci Resolve

DaVinci Resolve was tested using the same Puget System benchmark. Same as per the previous benchmark, the higher the score, the faster the performance of the processors.
In DaVinci Resolve, we can see another 18% increase in performance in favor of the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x compared to the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x.
Adobe Photoshop

Like previous benchmarks, the Adobe Photoshop photo editing software was also tested using the Puget System benchmark tool. Again, the higher the score, the better the performance.
Adobe Photoshop saw a nice difference of 30% between both the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x vs AMD Ryzen 5 5600x, with the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x being in the lead.
Microsoft Office
To test the capabilities of AMD Ryzen 5 7600x vs AMD Ryzen 5 5600x for Microsoft Office-related tasks, the UL Procyon Office Productivity benchmark tool was used.

For Microsoft Word, the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x didn’t offer a huge improvement compared to other benchmarks on the list, with just a 4% higher score than the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x.

As for Microsoft Excel, the difference was much greater at 22%.
7-Zip

The 7-Zip benchmark was used to test the encryption and decryption speeds of AMD Ryzen 5 7600x vs AMD Ryzen 5 5600x. The performance was measured in MIPS, meaning the higher it is, the better the performance.
For decompression, the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x was 19% faster than the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x and 29% faster for compression speeds.
GeekBench 5

The last one on the list is the GeekBench 5 benchmark, where we see both processors tested at a number of different workloads. Geekbench 5 ranks the performance of both processors based on the score, so the higher it is, the better the performance.
In the Geekbench 5 benchmark, the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x was performing 23% better than the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x and 25% better in the multicore test.
Average CPU Clock Speed

Looking at the average clock speeds in the Cinebench R23 test, we can see that the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x was much faster with both eco modes turned on and off. With eco mode turned on, the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x reached an average clock speed of 5.1 GHz, whereas with the eco mode turned off, the average clock speed went up to 5.2 GHz. On the other hand, the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x reaches 4.3 GHz clock speed on average, which puts into perspective why there’s such a huge performance gap between the last gen and the current gen.
TDP

The TDP is an important factor to consider when buying these CPUs, which is why we can see observe how power-hungry/efficient both CPUs are in the Cinebench R23 test. We can see that the total power draw of the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x was 228 W when the eco mode was turned off and 192 W when the eco mode was turned on, compared to the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x, which was only using 156 W.
The AMD Ryzen 5 7600x was performing 36% better for the Cinebench R23 test but was also consuming 46% more power with the eco mode turned off. With eco mode turned on, the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x was still much more power efficient, with the AMD Ryzen 5 7600x consuming 23% more power than the AMD Ryzen 5 5600x.
CPU Temperature

With eco mode turned on, the difference was decreased to 25%, which is still quite hot but still a decent improvement over the normal. It’s worth mentioning that AMD has announced that the newer chips will have no problems working at 95° C temperatures for extended periods of time, so this shouldn’t be very concerning.
