1. Clock Speed: The RTX 4060 Ti has higher clock speeds through and through, with a base clock of 2310MHz and a boost of up to 2535MHz. The RTX 3070 falls short in this matter, with a base clock of 1500MHz and a boost of up to 1725MHz.
2. VRAM: The RTX 4060 Ti comes in two memory configurations: an 8GB variant and a 16GB variant. Both support GDDR6 RAM over a 128-bit bus. The RTX 3070, however, comes in only one variant with 8GB of memory over a 256-bit bus.
3. Process Node: The RTX 4060 Ti uses a 5nm manufacturing process from TSMC, whereas the RTX 3070 has 8nm processing nodes manufactured by Samsung.
4. TDP: The RTX 4060 Ti has a very low TDP of only 160 watts, whereas the RTX 3070 uses more power with a rated TDP of 220 watts.

The subsequent sections will shift our focus towards the performance of the RTX 4060 Ti vs RTX 3070 in real-world gaming scenarios atop a test bench, the specifications of which are mentioned below:

Spider-Man: Miles Morales

• The RTX 4060 Ti exhibits better performance, delivering an impressive average framerate of 120 FPS, surpassing the RTX 3070’s 116 FPS by a small margin of 3.3%.
• When it comes to 1% low performance, the RTX 4060 Ti slightly outperforms the RTX 3070, showcasing a small 2.1% improvement with 93 FPS compared to the RTX 3070’s 91 FPS.

Apex Legends

• The narrative shifted with the RTX 4060 Ti getting an average framerate of 139 FPS in our test of Apex Legends, whereas the RTX 3070 averaged a framerate of 144 FPS under the same conditions.
• Additionally, the RTX 4060 Ti falls short in terms of 1% low performance, demonstrating a 6.1% decrease and delivering 111 FPS, falling behind the RTX 3070’s 118 FPS.

Call Of Duty Warzone 2.0

• Our test of COD: Warzone 2 also showed that the RTX 3070 is slightly faster, with an average framerate of 102 FPS, 2.9% higher than the RTX 4060 Ti’s average of 99 FPS.
• Moreover, the RTX 4060 Ti falls behind in 1% low performance, showcasing a 3.7% decrease with 79 FPS, outperforming the RTX 3070’s 82 FPS.

Microsoft Flight Simulator

• The narrative changed once again in MS Flight Sim 2020, with the RTX 4060 Ti getting an average framerate of 58 FPS, 3.5% higher than the 56 FPS average of the RTX 3070.
• Furthermore, the RTX 4060 Ti showcases its superiority in 1% low performance, exhibiting a 4.4% increase with 46 FPS compared to the RTX 3070’s 44 FPS.

Forza Horizon 5

• The RTX 4060 Ti stayed ahead in our test of Forza Horizon 5, with an average framerate of 108 FPS against the RTX 3070’s average of 106 FPS, which accounted for a small difference of around 1.8%.
• Additionally, when it comes to 1% low performance, the RTX 4060 Ti outperforms the RTX 3070 with a 1.1% improvement, delivering 86 FPS compared to the RTX 3070’s 85 FPS.

• Interestingly, the RTX 4060 Ti surpasses the RTX 3070 in terms of average FPS, achieving an impressive 133 FPS vs 126 FPS, signifying a notable 5.4% improvement.
• Moreover, the RTX 4060 Ti demonstrates its dominance in 1% low performance, exhibiting a significant 5.7% increase with 107 FPS, surpassing the RTX 3070’s 101 FPS.

The Witcher 3

• The RTX 3070 took the lead in our run of The Witcher 3, with an average framerate of 104 FPS, whereas the Ada Lovelace card was a few frames behind with an average of 101 FPS.
• Furthermore, the RTX 4060 Ti takes the fall in terms of 1% low performance, showcasing a 2.4% decrease with 81 FPS, while the RTX 3070 showcases 83 FPS.

Overall Gaming Performance

Both cards demonstrated nearly identical performance in our testing, with a minimal difference of 3-5% at best. The RTX 4060 Ti gains an advantage through its frame generation capability, a feature absent in the RTX 3070. However, this distinction becomes negligible when utilizing AMD’s Fluid Motion Frames software.

Average Power Consumption

Though the RTX 4060 Ti did not bring noticeable gains in performance, it reduced the power consumption a lot compared to its predecessor. The RTX 3070 took around 62% more power than the RTX 4060 Ti on average in our testing, which is a difference certain to affect your power bill.

Average Thermal Statistics

Both the cards we tested were equipped with robust cooling solutions, which is why we didn’t see any major difference in the thermal performance of these cards. Remember that this metric might change with the variant of both cards you get, making it important to take our readings with a grain of salt. 

Pricing And Availability

Because the RTX 4060 Ti has two variants, both with a noticeable price difference, comparing it against the RTX 3070 gets tricky. As of late February 2024, the RTX 3070 remains 19-34% cheaper than the RTX 4060 Ti, which is noteworthy considering the negligible difference in performance.

RTX 3070 Vs RTX 4060 Ti: Which Is Better?

RTX 4060 Ti: Comparing this card to an older card from Nvidia opened our eyes to the lack of improvements they have brought with this generation. The RTX 4060 Ti only serves to bring shiny new features for a more premium price compared to the RTX 3070.

RTX 3070: The RTX 3070, marked by fluctuating prices since its launch, faces tough competition from the RTX 4060 Ti in this comparison. Opting for the latter is more sensible unless you require Nvidia’s frame generation technology or have power supply limitations that favor the RTX 3070.

All in all, our assessment of the RTX 4060 Ti vs RTX 3070 brings forth a clear winner, though some people might prefer the older card because of its superior power efficiency and better features.
