  • Lenovo ThinkPad series, especially the X1 Yoga Gen 8, offers various features that make it a perfect pick for work purposes. These include long battery life, a 360-degree screen with a stylus, and a portable design.
  • Lenovo Legion series also offers a powerful processor with ample storage.
  • Reviews also show the Lenovo ThinkPad series to be superior to Dell and HP business laptops.

Business laptops are a must for those in the corporate world. It’s clear to me that Lenovo leads the industry in providing the best business laptops. With standout features that set them apart, Lenovo laptops are the ideal choice for anyone needing reliable, functional devices for work.

Distinctive Features Of My Favorite Lenovo Laptops

According to Statista, Lenovo dominates the laptop market with its strong presence. By the end of 2023, it had a market share of 25.1% of the global PC shipments.

Lenovo stands out from other brands with its superior performance and durability. My Lenovo Ideapad 330 lasted a solid 7 years without any performance issues, and it stayed intact despite a few accidental drops on my end. This proves one of the key advantages of Lenovo laptops: their exceptional durability.

For my business laptop needs, I went with the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 8. Thanks to its great features, it’s top-notch for work.

Processor

Intel Core vPro processors give it a faster processing speed. During my five months of consistent usage, I have not encountered a single instance of abrupt crashes or delayed responses. Plus, it aids in rapid charging, so there are no long delays between tasks.

Design

The Thinkpad series is sleek and compact, which means it is comfortable to carry to and from work. Furthermore, I was particularly impressed with the keyboard design. The keys on the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 8 are highly responsive to light keystrokes.

Battery And Memory

On a single charge, ThinkPad gives me a battery time of about 10 hours, which is excellent for a business laptop. Additionally, it has plenty of memory to store all my hefty work apps.

Other Features

The model has a decent camera for those important Zoom sessions. What impressed me highly was that it comes with a 360-degree touchscreen and a stylus pen. Paired together, I could quickly turn it into a tablet to take quick notes during important meetings.

The Intel Evo allows for intelligent video conferencing paired with an AI-based noise-cancellation feature. Featuring a 1080p camera, my coworkers can see me clearly when I am presenting. Online meetings have never been better.

Adding to the convenience, it lets you connect your Android/iOS phones wirelessly. Transfer files, tackle calls, and view notifications and messages all on one screen. Consequently, you do not have to switch constantly between screens during working hours. Plus, the ThinkPad series is equipped with up to 4 USB ports to connect multiple devices simultaneously.

Other Business-Friendly Lenovo Series

The Lenovo Legion series also makes for an excellent business laptop. The powerful processors offer up to 5.8GHz of processing speed, so the device never freezes between important tasks. For multitasking, the Legion series did not disappoint the users and can handle multiple browsing and editing tasks simultaneously.

How Others Rate Lenovo Business Laptops

Multiple reviews from hundreds of users have poured in, confirming that the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 is one of the best in the series. Matthew Moniz on YouTube has the same opinions, and viewers in the comment section agreed with him.

Moreover, Forbes also listed a model from the ThinkPad series in their list of the best business laptops. Considering the similar features, NanoReview compared the Lenovo ThinkPad and HP EliteBook. ThinkPad outperformed its competitor in terms of performance, portability, battery life, and connectivity and won the overall comparison.

A user on Spiceworks Community had performance issues with Dell Latitude, making them more inclined towards the ThinkPad series for their work demands. Therefore, in several aspects, Lenovo has surpassed HP and Dell, especially when it comes to durability and portability.

Nine Sols Is Almost The Next Hollow Knight

Story Highlight
  • Nine Sol feels like a successor to Hollow Knight because of many shared features and inspiration.
  • The combat is as deep yet simple as Hollow Knight, with even the charm system being borrowed over.
  • Some lengthy dialogue sections serve to break immersion, which is why it is almost as good as Hollow Knight.

Even non-Metroidvania fans know Hollow Knight, the 2017 indie hit. While Team Cherry teases us with Silksong, let’s discuss Nine Sols, a game that’s almost the next Hollow Knight.

A Cousin Of Hollow Knight

Everyone called Hollow Knight a Souls-like because of some mechanical similarities. If Hollow Knight is Dark Souls, then Nine Sols is Sekiro. Let’s dive deeper into this claim in the sections below.

The World

Nine Sols is rich in lore. We won’t be diving into the story to avoid spoilers for anyone who wants to play this game, but the stories in Nine Sol’s world are so abundant that we could do a whole series on them.

I Wish The Maps Were More Detailed (Image By Tech4Gamers)

From the Primordial Roots to the technological innovations, Nine Sols takes the formula of story-telling formulated by From Soft and implemented by Team Cherry to never-before-seen lands.

We do have some gripes about the story’s telling, but we’ll save that for a later section.

Combat

Nine Sols offers a straightforward yet engaging combat system with a block, parry, and two types of attacks. Perfect parries allow players to attach a bomb to their opponent, similar to Sekiro’s stance-break reward.

The Animation For This Is So Satisfying (Image By Tech4Gamers)

Though different from Hollow Knight, Nine Sols’ combat feels like a natural evolution rather than a complete overhaul. While Silksong will likely deepen combat differently, Nine Sols provides a fun variation on Hollow Knight’s mechanics.

Interconnectivity

The world of Nine Sols is interconnected, much like Hollow Knight or any other Metroidvania. There are branching paths and secret rooms that make each playthrough feel unique.

Guard Statue

Nine Sols features many moments where you encounter obstacles that act as roadblocks, only to return later and unlock hidden paths. While this is a common trait of Metroidvanias, both Hollow Knight and Nine Sols implement it in a way that doesn’t require long waits to clear these obstacles.

Charms? No, Jades.

This is as similar as it gets. Hollow Knight brought a fun charms system to its genre, which allowed players to customize their playstyle. Want a longer dash? There’s a charm for that. Want more attack range? There’s a charm for that.

Jades Nine Sols
The Menu Also Looks The Same (Image By Tech4Gamers)

Nine Sols dub its charms system “Jades,” and they work identically to how they did in Hollow Knight. Want a quicker heal? Get the Quick Dose Jade. Want to get your health back when you attack? Get the Breather Jade. The combinations you can make are nearly endless.

Even the system for attaching Charms is similar, with a set amount of slots that you can increase by exploring and killing enemies, with each Jade taking up varying amounts of slots, depending on how overpowered they are.

Bosses

Yes, Hollow Knight was special because of its world design, but the bosses helped elevate it to the next level. Hollow Knight has only a few means of inflicting damage onto the player: contact damage and projectiles, while Nine Sols chose the more traditional “If sword swings, then damage dealt” approach.

Nine Sols Boss Fight
The Trailer Had Me Hyped For Yingzhou (Image By GameSkinny)

This opens up the game to interesting attack patterns, animations, and hitboxes that make the spectacle of the boss fights better to me than its contemporaries.

Everything Else

Nine Sols is an incredible game featuring a focused story, deep lore, and charming comic book-like sections. However, it isn’t perfect. One aspect that hindered my experience was the lengthy dialogue sequences between characters.

Often, I found myself either trying to engage with the dialogue and then skipping it when I got bored or skipping it outright. This issue prevents Nine Sols from breaking into my top five Metroidvanias, which is why I say it’s almost as good as Hollow Knight.

That said, I highly recommend trying Nine Sols; it’s amazing, regardless of the more rambly sections. Keep visiting us for more features on the best up-and-coming video games!

0.5% of Square’s Profits Came From non-MMO PC/ Console Games In Q1

Story Highlight
  • Square Enix reported mixed financial results for the last quarter.
  • It has been reported that it only saw 0.5% of profit coming from console and PC games, while MMOs contributed to nearly 70% of the profits.
  • Mobile gaming was also quite profitable, so the company intends to increase its focus on this market moving forward.

Square Enix, despite being one of Japan’s biggest gaming publishers, has found it difficult to compete in the modern AAA industry. Over the last year, this publisher has launched two major titles, in addition to supporting various smaller projects.

However, it seems these have not been the game-changers that the studio needs. While Square Enix reported increased operating income for the last quarter, it has been said that less than 1% of its profits came from console and PC games.

Why it matters: Square Enix has made massive investments in this sector recently. Both Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Final Fantasy 16 had incredibly high production values.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Saw Incredible Critical Success At Launch

According to the latest financial results, the company saw sales drop by nearly 20% year-on-year. However, the operating income was up by a whopping 250%. The sales drop-off seems to be a result of Square Enix’s lack of major titles in the last three months.

At the same in 2024, it released Final Fantasy 16, which sold 3 million units. Anyhow, analyst Daniel Ahmad chimed in on the discussion, revealing how the profits were divided between the company’s various segments.

More than 68% of the profits came directly from MMOs, while 31.1% came as a result of mobile games. Quite shockingly, non-MMO PC and console games contributed just 0.5% to the total profit.

One might argue that this figure is low for the quarter due to the lack of major AAA releases from Square Enix in the past three months. However, it is important to note that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is not that old.

On the subject of this JRPG, the studio has yet to share updated sales figures.

Final Fantasy 16 Square Enix
Final Fantasy 16 Sold More Than Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

A major contributor to the current outlook is undoubtedly the publisher’s exclusivity deal. Because its last two Final Fantasy releases are only available on the PS5, Square Enix has been unable to capitalize on the PC and Xbox markets.

The company also intends to focus more on mobile gaming moving forward. This seems to be a wise decision. Based on these results, Final Fantasy 14 will be a huge success on mobile.

Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel To Feature Multiplayer, Job Listing Suggests

Story Highlight
  • Cyberpunk 2077’s multiplayer mode was scrapped, which left fans disappointed.
  • A job listing suggests that the team could be bringing this mode to the sequel.
  • A mod is also being worked on that aims to bring multiplayer to the original game.

Cyberpunk 2077’s comeback will go down in history. Despite the disastrous launch, fans gave the studio a second chance, and CDPR did well to redeem itself. The game is now better than ever, but it is still missing a crucial element.

Fans were disappointed when CDPR cancelled the multiplayer element for the RPG. However, this may not be the case with the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel since a job listing via Game Rant suggests it could feature multiplayer.

Why it matters: The Cyberpunk 2077 universe has a lot of untapped potential. A multiplayer component could create a GTA Online-like experience in Night City.

CDPR Job Listing
CDPR Job Listing Hints At Multiplayer In Project Orion | Source CD Projekt Red

CDPR is looking for a lead network programmer who will play a pivotal role in designing and implementing the network architecture and online systems. The person will also lead a team of engineers to ensure the multiplayer experience is seamless and robust.

Develop and optimize multiplayer systems, including matchmaking, and address challenges related to latency, bandwidth usage, and server performance.

-CDPR Job Listing

It is important to note that CDPR’s Witcher multiplayer spin-off will feature multiplayer. However, this project is being developed by The Molasses Flood, a completely different team.

This job listing appears to be for a different project since it was not listed under The Molasses Flood’s section. CDPR’s website shows a completely different set of job listings for this particular studio.

Therefore, it implies that other projects, including Project Orion and The Witcher 4, will include multiplayer. Since CDPR has already discussed this possibility in the past, the former seems more likely.

It is also important to note that Cyberpunk 2077 was always supposed to come with a multiplayer component. This was later scrapped, so it seems fitting that CDPR would want to redeem itself and bring it to the sequel.

Anyhow, it may be best to keep expectations in check. CDPR has yet to confirm any details, so there’s no telling what may happen. If you want a glimpse of how multiplayer would look in Cyberpunk 2077, fans are working on a custom mod that looks quite promising.

Palworld Dev Has No Intentions Of Using AI For Future Games

Story Highlight
  • Generative AI is gaining popularity throughout the industry, and most studios are interested in exploring the technology.
  • The team behind Palworld is going the opposite route, stating that it will keep a healthy distance from the technology.
  • The developer is doing this to avoid upsetting the masses. Nintendo is also going a similar route.

While AAA games are widely popular, AA and indie titles have recently found a huge place in the industry. Following the launch of Helldivers 2 and Palworld, the AA industry is stronger than ever.

Moving forward, this industry is expected to benefit from technological advancements made to AI. However, the studio behind Palworld is not interested in AI, with the team stating that it will maintain a distance from the technology.

Why it matters: Most developers have also decided to use generative AI and other technologies in the future. This makes teams like Pocketpair the exception rather than the norm.

Helldivers 2 Palworld
Helldivers 2 And Palworld Were Both Huge AA Releases In 2024

Palworld was released earlier this year, and the game has just surpassed everyone’s expectations since it reached millions of players.

Interestingly, Pocketpair was also accused of using generative AI for the Palworld characters. These allegations were denied by the CEO, though he recently confirmed that generative AI was used for the studio’s last release.

AI: Art Imposter was a drawing game released in 2022, but the team has changed its views since then. Discussing this technology in a recent interview, CEO Takuro Mizobe confirmed that generative AI would not be part of future titles.

What we’re making is entertainment, so I don’t want us to actively pursue something that’s going to upset people. I want us to maintain healthy distance from technological advancements.

-Pocketpair CEO

Still, the CEO admitted that AI integration in gaming is inevitable. This has already been confirmed by various other publishers and developers.

Palworld Pokemon
Palworld Was Accused Of Using AI

Interestingly, Nintendo is another publisher that has confirmed it won’t be using generative AI. This makes both Pocketpair and Nintendo the exceptions rather than the norm.

Overall, fans will be glad to know that a few studios are still willing to bet against the technology. This could help their releases achieve a distinct feel that may not be possible for other publishers who actively integrate the technology into future projects.

RPCS3 Adds Ryzen 9000 CPU Support Ahead of Launch

Story Highlight
  • The RPCS3 emulator has been updated to version v0.0.32-16742 to provide compatibility with future AMD Zen 5 processors.
  • The update fixes instability issues seen with newer Ryzen 9000 CPUs.
  • Proper optimizations and tweaks are necessary for smooth gameplay, and users should expect similar stability with Zen 5 CPUs as with Zen 4.

To better work with the future AMD Zen 5 CPUs, RPCS3, the popular PlayStation 3 emulator, has been modified. The most recent version of RPCS3 is now available for use on systems with the upcoming AMD Zen 5 processors.

Why it matters: The Ryzen 9000 processors will arrive later this month, so millions of users will be upgrading their PC builds.

Image via RPCS3

The RPCS3 team revealed in a recent post on X that the emulator will finally support Zen 5-based chips for hassle-free gameplay as of version v0.0.32-16742.

Updates are necessary since the emulator experiences instability on newer hardware, especially for some users who have already obtained the Ryzen 9000 SKUs. The RPCS3 version v0.0.32-16742 or higher can now play PS3 games without problems.

Because of its strong reliance on the CPU, RPCS3 requires effective optimizations. As a result, even with a high-end GPU powering your system, your CPU must be able to run the emulator smoothly.

RPCS3 can boot and play many games without experiencing any stability problems in its current state.

Meanwhile, many titles still have performance problems or fail the boot state. The likes of God of War 3 recently became playable, and the team is constantly making improvements to the emulator.

Overall, users should expect the same level of stability when running games on AMD Zen 5 CPUs as Zen 4-based computers.

Steam Hardware Survey Reveals 1080p Still Mainstream Resolution In 2024

Story Highlight
  • Currently, the best resolution you can readily get for monitors is 4K.
  • However, Steam’s official monthly survey reveals that gamers still prefer 1080p.
  • The official survey from Steam also revealed that the majority of gamers still use RTX 3060 and 16GB RAM.

In this era, the highest resolution used for gaming is 4K. While 8K is already a thing, it is barely used in the mainstream world. Moreover, the PPI at 8K is so high that it’s hard to benefit from this resolution without a massive screen.

As such, 4K gaming is typically the best when looking at monitors. However, you might be surprised to know that the best resolution isn’t close to being the most popular. Steam’s official survey reveals that the majority of users still play at 1080p.

Why it matters: In this era, most developers are aiming for ultra-realistic graphics, but this makes new games more intensive than ever. Therefore, playing at lower resolutions can be beneficial to performance.

Steam Survey
Steam Official Survey Reveals That Most Gamers Still Use 1080p and RTX 3060 | Credits: Steam

The official Steam hardware and software survey reveals that the majority of Steam users are using Windows 10 as their operating system, 16 GB RAM, RTX 3060, and 1080p as their primary display resolution.

Looking at the other display resolutions, 1440p accounts for 20% of the users, while 4K accounts for just 3.65% of the Steam user base. In comparison, a whopping 57.28% of users still rely on 1080p.

This might not be that surprising to most PC games, as 1080p is still a solid resolution. Not to mention, it gives you the best performance for new games. So, if you have a 24-inch monitor, what else do you need?

The RTX 3060 is also very well suited to this resolution. They are basically a match made in heaven, so this combination being the most popular makes a lot of sense.

Moreover, Steam’s biggest games are esports titles like CS2 and Dota 2. Therefore, none of these games require you to play at a high resolution for the best experience. Shooters are also best played at high frame rates, so fans prefer to use 1080p for the best results.

Many gamers believe that getting 60FPS at 1080p is way better than 30FPS at 4K. We also agree with this notion since frame rates hold more value than resolution for us. So, even in this era, 1080p is getting the job done for many people.

Sony Says PS VR2 Was Designed for PC Compatibility From The Beginning

Story Highlight
  • Sony reveals that PS VR2 was designed with PC compatibility in mind from the start.
  • However, the PC adapter does not support advanced features like headset feedback and eye tracking.

Sony has unveiled the PS VR2 PC adapter, which will make their VR headset compatible with PCs. The aim is to enhance the VR experience for users who own a PS5 and a PC. Sony also revealed that when designing the PS VR2, it was a top priority to ensure it worked with PCs.

Why it matters: The development team understood that a smooth VR experience across various platforms was essential. This early focus meant the PS VR2 was built to connect to PCs from the very beginning.

PlayStation VR2
Sony’s VR Headset department was hit with layoffs in March 2024.

AV Watch, a Japanese magazine, asked Sony if they planned for the PS VR2 to connect to PCs from the beginning.

The PS VR2 was designed with PC connection in mind from the beginning.

-Sony

At first, Sony focused on making the VR experience great for the PlayStation 5. When the PS VR2 launched, the main aim was to deliver excellent performance and user satisfaction with the PS5.

After that, the team quickly improved compatibility with PCs to offer a more flexible VR experience. To make this transition easier, Sony is releasing an adaptor for the PS VR2 on August 7, priced at $60.

This adaptor will allow the headset to connect to a PC if the system meets certain requirements. While the PC adaptor will support advanced features like 4K visuals, a 110-degree field of view, and 3D audio, it won’t support the headset’s best features.

These include headset feedback, eye tracking, and adaptive triggers on PC.

PlayStation VR2
Sony recently lowered the price of the PS VR2, causing it to sell out quickly on Amazon.

However, with PC compatibility, PS VR2 users can now enjoy more than just PlayStation-exclusive games. They can access a wide range of VR content on PCs, including indie games and advanced simulations.

The PC adapter will let PS VR2 users access various games on platforms like SteamVR and OpenXR. Games like Half-Life: Alyx will now be available, greatly expanding their options.

It also hints that Sony might start offering its exclusive VR releases on PC, making the gap between console and PC gaming even smaller.

Overall, the PC adapter could increase the headset’s value, but it comes at a high price. It will be interesting to see if the headset challenges popular VR headsets like the Valve Index and Meta Quest Pro.

WB Considers Selling Part of Gaming Business Amid Financial Troubles

Story Highlights
  • Warner Bros Discovery has not been able to live up to its potential.
  • Chief Executive David Zaslav is working on a plan to bring the company back on track.
  • Sources state he is considering selling a stake in the gaming business to prevent splitting the TV and film divisions.

Warner Bros Discovery is reportedly gearing up to make drastic changes to its business. This division has not had the most success over the last two years, and David Zaslav is now considering extreme measures to minimize losses.

The company is considering selling off part of its gaming business amid other changes.

Why it matters: Warner Bros owns some of the industry’s biggest IPs. Its presence in the gaming market has been inconsistent recently, but a new stakeholder would have much to gain from such a deal.

mortal-kombat-1
Mortal Kombat 1 Has Sold Millions of Copies

Currently, IPs like Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, and more fall under Warner Bros. However, selling off a stake in the gaming division would not lead to ownership of these IPs. Instead, the company seems to be looking at a co-ownership approach.

This could mean that the new stakeholder would be able to gain ownership of a few of the studios under the gaming division, including Rocksteady, NetherRealm, and Monolith.

According to the Financial Times, this decision is being made to prevent splitting up the movie and TV divisions. Warner Bros is hoping investors will patiently observe these moves as the company works on bouncing back.

Warner Bros believes the company’s stock should be valued at $25/share despite its current price of $7.88/share.

Hogwarts Legacy
Hogwarts Legacy Was Last Year’s Best-Selling Title

Warner Bros’ gaming division has shown mixed results recently, but it would be very lucrative for anybody interested in buying a stake. For starters, both Mortal Kombat 1 and Hogwarts Legacy ended up being huge releases last year.

Suicide Squad went the opposite route this year, but the potential of working on these IPs is limitless. Perhaps Xbox will be interested in buying a stake since the gaming giant has been known to buy up major publishers in the past.

Ubisoft Accused Of Using Bots To Hype Up Star Wars Outlaws

Story Highlights
  • A Twitter user has accused Ubisoft of using bots to create hype for Star Wars Outlaws.
  • The user has made an entire video to expose how these bots work.
  • Previously, it was also claimed that the company tried to influence YouTube previews.

When the first previews for Star Wars Outlaws poured in, most media outlets didn’t have much positive to say about it. However, things took a turn with the latest ones, and the previews were mostly positive. According to a report, there has been more to the story.

Recently, it was claimed that Ubisoft offered YouTubers VIP Disneyland trips to earn favors for the game. The publisher is also being accused of using bots to create excitement for Star Wars Outlaws.

Why it matters: Modern social media platforms are plagued with bots. These can also be used to influence public opinion in an unfair manner, making this practice quite despised.

Star Wars Outlaws bots
Star Wars Outlaws Seems To Have Used A Bot Campaign For Promotions

According to a Twitter user who shared an entire set of comments on a post, the majority of them are being led by bots. The user has shown that these bots have commented on posts about Star Wars Outlaws.

The source has even created a video to expose these bots. Interestingly, a number of these accounts also have blue ticks, which is a worrying sign for the platform’s credibility, considering how bot-influenced it has become.

Anyhow, this raises many questions about Star Wars Outlaws. We already know that the game will have a huge fan base, considering it belongs to a big franchise, but the use of bots isn’t the best move.

Star Wars Outlaws
Massive Entertainment Has Tried Its Best To Deliver A Great Experience With This Adaptation

Ubisoft revealed that Star Wars Outlaws has the largest marketing budget of all its games. However, relying on bots suggests a lack of confidence from the company’s side.

If the title is actually good, people will play it themselves. With many previews saying that Star Wars Outlaws marks a new take on the open-world formula, there’s already enough reason to be excited.

Black Myth: Wukong Development Wrapped Up As Game Goes Gold

Story Highlight
  • Black Myth: Wukong is currently the most wishlisted and best-selling game on Steam.
  • The studio has announced that development has been completed.
  • There won’t be any delays, and a new trailer will be released on August 8.

Black Myth: Wukong is one of the biggest upcoming releases. The game’s hype is currently skyrocketing, as there are just two weeks left before the release. Due to that, it is also the best seller on Steam right now.

Now, Game Science has announced that the development has been wrapped up since the title has gone gold.

Why it matters: Black Myth: Wukong is set to be a massive hit, and the action RPG seems to be pretty optimized, given the fact that it comes from a new Chinese studio.

Black-Myth-Wukong-Promising
Black MythL Wukong is Rumored To Have Over 80 Boss Fights

Game Science announced on Twitter that development is finished, and the game will be released as scheduled. The developer has worked hard on the action RPG to ensure that it won’t get delayed so that fans can play it as soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience! We’re thrilled to announce that the full development of Black Myth: Wukong is complete.

-Game Science

The team is still working hard on the game, as it is currently being experimented on, tested, and prepared for deployment. This should lead to a very polished experience since the studio is still making final changes after wrapping up development.

A new trailer will also be released on August 8 at 10 PM Beijing time, so fans are in for a treat. This will likely be the final trailer that fans receive before the action RPG launches later this month.

The developer has requested the fandom to avoid spreading any type of content or leaks from unofficial sources that would spoil the game for others.

Game Science seems to be on track to surprising the industry. The developer behind Stellar Blade surprised everyone in a similar manner before, so everyone is excited about the Chinese industry’s future.

The developer seems pretty confident in its work so far. You should know that it won’t be like your average Souls-like; Black Myth: Wukong is more like God of War. So, the difficulty won’t be much of a problem.

Unfortunately, Xbox fans will have to wait longer as the action RPG was delayed on this particular platform.

Historian Believes AC Shadows Takes Away From Japanese Samurai Culture

Story Highlight
  • Japanese historian Yuichi Goza has commented on Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
  • He believes Yasuke was more of a bodyguard than a proper samurai.
  • The historian also states that Yasuke’s depiction as a samurai representative is disrespectful to samurai culture.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows has constantly sparked debates around Ubisoft’s approach to Japanese culture and tradition. The depiction of Yasuke as a samurai is still up for debate, and the team has even had to come forward with an official clarification on the matter.

While various historians have constantly argued against Yasuke being a samurai, Yuichi Goza offered a different response. He believes Yasuke was more of a bodyguard for Oda Nobunaga and that his depiction as a samurai representative is not a great decision.

Why it matters: The controversy around Assassin’s Creed Shadows is seemingly never-ending, with new thoughts and impressions frequently adding to the discussion.

Assassin's Creed Shadows
Yasuke’s Inclusion Has Been Controversial Since Day One

Speaking to The Sankei Shimbun, Japanese historian Goza admitted that much of Yasuke’s life has gone unrecorded.

The historian pointed out that one record of Oda Nobunaga’s life states that he gave Yasuke a sword. This would basically confirm Yasuke’s status as a samurai, but Goza argues that this event only appears in one of the many stories about Oda Nobunaga.

He also argues that Yasuke may have been treated as a samurai formally. This would entail the historical figure wearing a sword and appearing as a samurai in front of the public. However, if a war broke out, Yasuke would not be expected to fight on the battlefield.

According to Yuichi Goza, Oda Nobunaga used Yasuke to attract attention toward himself and show off his power. However, the historian does not believe that this makes the figure a samurai in the traditional sense.

He was not the samurai Westerners imagine him to be.

-Yuichi Goza

The historian then commented on Ubisoft’s overall depiction of Japan with Assassin’s Creed Shadows. He also addressed the petition calling for the game to be cancelled, stating that it’s understandable why so many are upset with Ubisoft’s decisions.

If Yasuke is made to be a representative of the samurai, it would be like taking something away from Japanese samurai culture.

Assassin's Creed Shadows
Assassin’s Creed Shadows Is Expected To Be A Huge Release Despite The Controversies

Yuichi Goza believes it would have been better to feature Yasuke alongside a traditional Japanese samurai if this was the route Ubisoft intended to take. Instead, the studio pairs the samurai with Naoe, a character who fills the role of the traditional assassin archetype.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is currently scheduled for a November release. As the launch draws closer, Ubisoft expects massive success despite all the controversies.
