Xbox Handheld Potentially Set To Use AMD Z2 Extreme Chipset

Story Highlight
  • A new report suggests that Xbox could be using the AMD Z2 Extreme chip for its handheld device.
  • AMD recently held a meeting where they revealed the chip and Microsoft was present too.
  • AMD Z2 Extreme will bring significant performance and battery improvements.

The gaming handheld space is really heating up. With so many releases in the past years like Steam Deck, ROG Ally, MSI Claw, and more, PlayStation and Xbox are rumored to mark their spot too. A report states that the Xbox handheld could use AMD’s Z2 Extreme chipset.

Why it matters? We saw AMD introducing its Extreme chips with the ROG Ally. The chip is quite powerful already, and if the Xbox handheld indeed uses the next iteration, we could be looking at a significantly powerful device.

The Xbox handheld device could use an AMD Z2 Extreme chip

According to eXtas1s, a reliable leaker, AMD plans to release the Z2 Extreme in early 2025. The chip will reportedly offer great performance improvements in gaming over its predecessor. Interstingly, Xbox was at the meeting too.

In AMD, official presentation, they revealed their aims with this new chip. The first is more efficiency for a better battery life. Their other motive is to be able to play demanding AAA games smoothly, and they gave the example of Black Myth: Wukong.

The battery jump seems to be massive too. With the ROG Ally X, you are looking at just 30 to 45 minutes of gameplay without plugged in before the battery dies. With the Z2 Extreme, AMD aims to achieve at least 3 hours.

The Z2 Extreme will be a significant upgrade over the Z1 Extreme chip

Considering, that Xbox has plans to launch its handheld, the AMD Z2 Extreme could be a great option. Z1 Extreme powered devices are some of the most powerful handhelds on the market and Xbox could take it a notch up by using the version with its handheld.

It should be noted that Microsoft hasn’t officially announced the handheld yet but there is solid evidence it’s in the works. However, using Z2 Extreme is speculation, so take this with a grain of salt.

In other news, PlayStation also seems to be jumping on the handheld bandwagon too. Though the company is no stranger to them, they haven’t released any portable device since the PS Vista in 2011, not including the latest PS Portal.

GTA 6 Won’t Run At 60FPS On PS5 Pro, Experts Suggest

Story Highlight
  • GTA 6 was expected to run at 30FPS on the current-gen consoles.
  • That is why fans have been expecting the PlayStation 5 Pro to be able to run this game at 60FPS.
  • However, Digital Foundry has just confirmed that given the history of GTA games, the upcoming one won’t be running at 60FPS on the PS5 Pro.

GTA 6 is arguably the most hyped and anticipated game in the gaming industry. Although the game is said to be the first one to increase the $70 price tag, fans shouldn’t worry, as that might not be the case.

Also, there were recently some rumours going on that the game is being delayed to 2026 but the most reliable insider in this instance confirmed that no delay is currently planned. That said, fans have also been concerned whether the game will run at 60FPS on the upcoming PS5 Pro.

Unfortunately, this console won’t be able to run GTA 6 at 60 FPS as confirmed by Digital Foundry.

Why it matters: PS5 Pro is advertised as an 8K console that can run games at double the framerates the base PS5 can.

Fans Desperately Need A New GTA 6 Trailer

In a recent interview, IGN asked Digital Foundry whether GTA 6 will run at 60FPS on PS5 Pro. Leadbetter gave a quick response, saying no, as GTA games have always been complex, so achieving 60FPS will not be possible even for the upcoming pro console.

No. Grand Theft Auto games have always run complex simulations that push the CPU hard, which is why every GTA game has initially launched on their target platforms at 30fps (or lower!).

-Digital Foundry

He further explains that the pro version uses the same CPU as the PS5, so it would be extremely challenging to achieve 60FPS. It doesn’t even seem achievable, as the problem doesn’t lie with the GPU; it lies with the CPU.

The Upcoming GTA Won’t Be Released Day One On The PC Platform

PS5 Pro is a big upgrade from the base version. While many might not think it is a worthy upgrade, it will still run the upcoming GTA better than any other console. The game won’t be released on PC on day one, so for the best results, fans would have to opt for the pro version.

While the game might not target the desired FPS, it could give you a more stable performance. Also, it is worth noting that there might be some enhanced games for the pro console that run at 30FPS, as Sony wasn’t really clear on this.

Black Myth: Wukong Is A GOTY Contender But It Might Not Win – Here’s Why

Story Highlight
  • Black Myth: Wukong has proven to be a solid GOTY contender, as the hype of this game is real.
  • While this game is a GOTY contender it is unlikely to win due to various reasons.
  • Some media outlets gave this game a really low score due to less inclusivity and diversity, so it has a low chance of surviving in a Western-dominated award ceremony.

It has been over two weeks since Black Myth: Wukong was released, and I have over 60 hours in this game. It would be fair to say that I am obsessed with this game. I am currently on my NG+ run and have thoroughly enjoyed the game.

Having beaten the majority of the bosses and explored almost every single place, I think this game is a solid GOTY Contender. That should be obvious to anyone who has played this game and saw the positive points. However, this game might not be able to take the most prestigious award home, and I have plenty of reasons to think so.

Why it matters: Black Myth: Wukong is the first massive AAA game from a Chinese studio and its erupting success has made many try this game out.

Black Myth: Wukong is Amazing

Black Myth: Wukong Deserves To Be Nominated For The GOTY

I have played the game for so long and would 100% recommend every RPG and Soulslike fan to give this game a try. You can make it too hard or too easy, depending on how you would like to play this game. There is so much you can do in this game, and once you get to understand how it works, I am positive that you will have a fun experience.

This game boasts over 90 bosses, many of which are unique. While there are badly designed boss fights like Yellowbrow, I think many are designed quite well. I would say some of its bosses would even give FromSoftware a run for its money.

The Great Sage’s Broken Shell is arguably the coolest boss in the game, and it might even surpass the quality of the final version of FromSoftware’s boss. All the taunts and arrogance he shows while besting you in a fight are worth watching.

There are many positive points about the game that make it a worthy GOTY contender. However, while it has a lot of positive points, it is bound to have some negatives, too.

The Terrible Boss Fights Somewhat Ruins The Experience

yellowbrow boss
Yellowbrow Is The Worst Designed Boss In Black Myth: Wukong

I am a huge fan of FromSoftware’s works, and playing its game is fun. Sure, games like the Elden Ring and Dark Souls series can get frustrating, but that is slightly different from the frustration you can face in Black Myth: Wukong. Let me explain why.

In Elden Ring bosses, you can see a pattern and learn about it. You can improvise and beat the boss that way. However, in Black Myth: Wukong, the bosses are unpredictable and can get the better of you often.

Also, some of them are hard just for the sake of being hard. Don’t get me wrong, you can learn the boss pattern, but the boss may act really unpredictable sometimes.

They are given so many gimmicks to figure out, which is annoying and frustrating. I don’t really like the idea of using some items to take those gimmicks away from the bosses, but at least you can do something to remove them.

Ironically, No Diversity and Inclusivity

Above, I have highlighted some genuine problems in the game. However, there are some other problems, which is why it might not win the Game of the Year Award. Some game journalists gave this game a really low score because it lacked exclusivity and diversity

I don’t think that’s fair, as the game has enough diversity. What do you want more? Different race people? That wouldn’t make sense at all, as this game revolves around the novel Journey to the West. So, changing it to fit the modern audience would be disrespectful to the Chinese folks as well as to history.

However, I think the game won’t win the GOTY awards because of this unfair reasoning. Of course, there are many things that are considered when evaluating the winner. Among those, I think this game should have the most chance of winning as it has a really compelling story, boss fights, OSTs, and graphics.

Black Myth: Wukong is literally a visual feast despite featuring a lot of great boss fights and a fascinating story. While it might not win the award, it is still a great game and is among my favorite games. If you haven’t played this game yet, you should give it a try and see the hype for yourself.

If you want an RTX 4090 GPU, your most comfortable and future-proof wattage requirements should be around 1,200W. In that sense, the Seasonic VERTEX GX-1200 PSU is a great option. The PSU offers an incredibly sleek design, 100% cable modularity, and comes with soft-sleeved cables for easy installation and routing. Moreover, its 80+ Gold certification is efficient enough to allow decent overclocking possibilities without any hiccups.

Regarding its performance, the load regulation of the PSU stayed consistent and tight because the temperatures didn’t rise. Unlike most PSUs that may croak during transient spikes, the GX-1200 handled them well during my testing, especially when the RTX 4090’s spikes require up to 1.3x more power. The only thing I disliked about the PSU was the higher OCP on the minor 5V and 3.3V rails, which went at 140.4% and 138.8%, respectively.

After testing the Vertex GX-1200, Arsalan Shakil, our PSU expert, praised the power supply for its consistent and reliable performance. Here’s what he said:

The Seasonic Vertex GX-1200 is a high-quality, reliable PSU that handles demanding systems with ease. Our Test Results Of These PSUs

To back our recommendations, we have tested more than a dozen power supplies. You can check the test results of some of them:

Important PSU Terms

  • Efficiency RatingThese ratings showcase the output percentage guaranteed for your PSU. Ratings go from Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Titanium.
  • 12VHPWR CableAbbreviated as 12-Volt High Power Cable, this is the latest cable with ATX 3.0 power supplies.
  • Voltage Ripple: Voltage ripple refers to the small fluctuations or variations in the output voltage of a power supply, usually caused by the AC-to-DC conversion process
  • Voltage Regulation: Voltage regulation is about how well a power supply maintains a constant output voltage, even when the load changes (like when you plug in more devices) or when the input voltage varies.
  • ATX 3.0: It is the latest power supply standard that handles the high power needs of modern PCs, especially for top-tier graphics cards, offering better efficiency and safety features.

How We Selected These PSUs For RTX 4090

The RTX 4090 is no doubt a beast, and to make sure my recommended PSUs for it are up to mark, my team and I tested a bunch of different power supplies. We paid extra attention to their performance (max ripple, regulation, efficiency), as well as stability under stress tests. These are the key factors we focused the most on during our testing:

  • Performance: The initial step in our testing process for power supplies focuses on their performance. We use specialized equipment to checkk the max voltage ripple, difference in regulation, and average efficiency across all rails for each PSU. This approach helps us determine which power supply is the most stable and suitable.
  • Modularity: While choosing the power supplies, I made sure all of the power supplies were 100% modular. Unlike non-modular PSUs with pre-attached cables, modular power supplies allow you to plug in cables as per your needs.
  • ATX 3.0 Compatibility: Because we were recommending power supplies for the RTX 4090, our power supplies should be ATX 3.0 compatible. Otherwise, connecting the GPU with the cables would be another hassle.
  • Internals: We disassembled each power supply to inspect the internal components closely. The quality of a PSU heavily relies on its capacitors and other internal parts, which are crucial for its overall performance

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a new PSU for the RTX 4090?

It depends. There’s almost no need to upgrade if you have a high-wattage ATX 2.0 PSU, presumably over 1,000W. However, if you’re using a lower-wattage PSU, upgrading for better performance and future-proofing is better.

How much power does a 4090 use?

If we include the transient spikes, an RTX 4090 can reach up to 630 watts. It should be noted that this will only happen for a few miliseconds, and the GPU actually consumes around 400W during high-performance gaming and productivity tasks.

Is 850W PSU enough for 4090?

You can go ahead with an 850W PSU for a 4090, but I wouldn’t recommend it. The primary reason is that you’ll probably be using a flagship CPU with the mighty 4090, and that’s where an 850W PSU may fall short. Plus, people don’t really change PSUs every few years, so it is best to future proof as well.

Intel Core Ultra 7 265KF In V-Ray 6 Shows Almost As Fast As i9-14900K

Story Highlight
  • Intel’s upcoming next-gen CPU details have surfaced online.
  • The CPU seems to be as fast as the i9-14900K in performance.
  • The upcoming Intel Core Ultra 7 265KF beats its predecessor by a 34.38% thread for thread.

The details of the Intel Upcoming next-gen CPU Core Ultra 7 265KF have been leaked. This is the first CPU from the Arrow Lake-S series to be leaked. The leak shows that this mid-range CPU appears in V-Ray 6. It performs well against the current high-end Intel CPU Core 14.

The Intel Core Ultra 7 265 KF is a mid-range dark silicon SoC equipped with 8 p-cores and 12 e-cores. The CPU’s thread count is 20, as the Loin Cove and Skymont architectures do not support hyperthreading.

The Intel Core Ultra 7 265KF is to replace its predecessor i7 i7-14700KF, but we also have performance results with i9-14900 and 14900k for comparison.

Why it matters: Intel’s latest chips are expected to come with a slew of changes, leading to excitement within the community.

Intel Core Ultra 7 265KF and V Ray 6
CPU Benchmarks

Now, compared to i7-14700KF, the new Core Ultra 7 265KF beats it with its 20 cores and 28 threads, scoring 34,529 points vs 33,153 points. In other words, the Core 14 is 4.15% faster than the Core Ultra, although it has 8 more threads. The Core Ultra 7 receives 1,657 points per thread, whereas the i7 receives 1,233 points.

In conclusion, the new Core Ultra 7 265KF outperforms the existing i7-14700KF in V-Ray by 34.38% thread for thread. This is relevant because the suite reveals that the scores have been achieved at a frequency of 5 GHz in both cases. So, without being a pure IPC comparison, it does tell us something very clear: Intel’s performance jump to one core will be large.

This, along with the fact that performance without HT is typically superior and that it doesn’t scale well in games, suggests that Intel will either make significant progress in gaming or fall somewhat short of the Ryzen 9000X3D. With 12 fewer threads and 300 MHz less than the potent i9-14900K in V-Ray, the performance is so good that it just lags by 6.77%.

In comparison, the Ryzen 7 9700X, which has 16 threads and scores an average of 24,253 points, is 36.69% slower. This is the AMD competitor that this Intel CPU will face. To continue the comparison, AMD obtains 1,515 points with this CPU as opposed to 1,657 points, thread by thread.

The launch date has yet to be revealed. But many rumours suggest that Intel will launch its Arrow Lake-S series in October.

How FromSoftware Has Forever Changed The Action Genre

Story Highlight
  • FromSoftware’s creation of Soulsborne games inspired many developers, resulting in the creation of the Souls-Like subgenre.
  • Souls games greatly influence new action games, making distinguishing between normal action and Souls-Like games difficult.
  • Titles Like Black Myth: Wukong blends Souls elements with fresh ideas, evolving the action genre.

The Soulsborne genre, created by FromSoftware with 2009’s Demon’s Souls, has gained significant notoriety in recent years, particularly with the success of the Dark Souls series. What sets these games apart is their harsh difficulty and focus on gameplay over cinematics, offering a true challenge and a deep sense of satisfaction upon completion.

The genre is known for its intricate lore, unique character design, and punishing difficulty. FromSoftware has continued to evolve this formula with titles like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Elden Ring.

The developer has inspired countless games and led to the birth of a Souls-Like genre that includes the Souls element but developed by a different studio. FromSoftware’s impact is so profound that many new action games are often labeled “Souls-like” despite this not being the case.

Why It Matters: FromSoftware has changed how people think of action games because every other game released after Elden Ring is immediately labeled as a Sous-Like, even if that isn’t the case.

How FromSoftware Has Increased The Overlap Between Souls And Action Games

RPG With FromSoftware Souls Elements
Black Myth Wukong Is A Character RPG Game With A few Souls Elements

Elden Ring truly brought the franchise to its peak thanks to its open-world setting and freedom. As such, every developer was desperate to implement the same formula in their games to replicate Elden Ring’s success.

The Souls-Like subgenre has been on an incredible run with high-quality releases like Lies of P and Lords of the Fallen. However, the rise of the subgenre has caused other releases that aren’t even from the same subgenre to be called Souls-Like.

Now, every person playing a game with dodge/parry and stamina mechanics thinks that the game is a Souls-Like. However, that isn’t the case, and action RPGs have existed for years.

These newer games were only inspired by the emphasis and combat of FromSoftware games, but that doesn’t make them Souls-like. Black Myth: Wukong and Phantom Blade Zero are all called Souls-like despite the developers’ claims otherwise.

This also applies to character action games like the Star Wars Jedi series. These games can sometimes be tough, but there’s no reason to refer to them as Souls-Like, as they are the same as games like Devil May Cry and Bayonetta.

Nothing changes the fact that stamina bars were popularized in the action game world by FromSoftware, who also introduced the concept of limited health items, mainly to increase the difficulty level of the Soulsborne games. People must realize that they aren’t confined to the Souls games and can be used outside of that genre.

What Makes A Game Souls And What Doesn’t

Phantom Blade Zero
Phantom Blade Zero Isn’t A Souls-Like Evident By Its Combo Emphasized Combat

This leads me to believe that Souls and action games have a very fine line between them today. It’s important to realize that borrowing a feature or two or maybe increased difficulty doesn’t make a game Souls-like.

The important features of Soulsborne games are a stamina bar, limited health items, emphasis on parry and block, being unforgiving regardless of the difficulty, more boss battles, a checkpoint-based bonfire system, and a shared XP and currency system that resets after death.

Additionally, shortcuts that open late in the game lead to another place, optional places that hold big secrets, whether it’s loot or lore for the game, skill/knowledge rewards, and unique and grotesque enemy designs combined with a gothic theme of the game, mainly make a game Soulsborne.

Now, a Souls game doesn’t necessarily have to include all these features. If an action game borrows a few features from here, it mashes them up with new ideas and creates something beautiful, e.g., Black Myth: Wukong

It’s safe to assume that the industry will continue to evolve beyond this point, and we will see more diversity in the action genre, and Phantom Blade will hold true to that testimony.

GTA Competitors’ Absence Causes Lack Of Diversity In The Open-World Genre

Story Highlight
  • GTA is such an influential franchise that it has now become the benchmark for open-world sandbox games.
  • As such, every modern open-world game suffers from being compared to GTA and doesn’t live up to the comparisons.
  • With no active GTA competitors, the open-world genre lacks the diversity it once had.

Grand Theft Auto is the only gaming franchise without a competitor because it’s the only franchise that no one can come even close to. The series is so successful that almost every person worldwide, gamer or non-gamer, immediately recognizes the IP.

The IP is so successful that every open-world sandbox game set in the modern era is labeled as a GTA clone even without trying. It’s safe to assume that, at this point, GTA has become the benchmark for open-world games.

While GTA’s clones and competitors have come and gone for generations now, for the first time, there is no active competitor against which GTA can compete, leaving the market wide open. GTA has always dominated the open-world genre, but the lack of competitors is not a good thing.

Why it matters: GTA clones have always been interesting. They take Rockstar’s blueprint and add a new twist, opening new doors. They’ve kept us busy while waiting for Rockstar to produce new games.

Despite Playing Vastly Different, Mafia Is Still Referred To As A GTA Clone | Image Credits: Tech4Gamers

As I previously mentioned, every open-world sandbox is labeled as a GTA clone without even trying so. This leads to comparisons between the IPs, and it’s obvious that GTA always wins those.

It makes sense, considering the budget and development time Rockstar can afford. GTA’s level of detail, interaction, and lore is something that can’t be replicated.

Take Watch Dogs, for instance. It was a unique game with a cyber twist but was still called a GTA clone because of its third-person gameplay and modern open-world setting.

Saints Row tried to take a different route using the same base formula, making an unhinged parody series. While that has worked in the past, the latest entry, Saints Row 2022, felt like a low-budget mobile game and completely missed the mark.

The Mafia series, on the other hand, looks very much GTA-like but is entirely different on paper because of its linear and realistic approach. Still, it also ended up being discarded as a GTA clone.

Other franchises include Sleeping Dogs, a game first intended to be a True Crime sequel. For reference, True Crime was the most obvious GTA rip-off, and it even led Rockstar to troll them.

Anyhow, Sleeping Dogs became its own thing, and while it is one of the games that has aged like fine wine, there hasn’t been a follow-up in the series due to disappointing sales. All that happened was because of the contrast between Sleeping Dogs and the GTA games, with everyone labelling it as another rip-off when it was first launched.

GTA’s Long Development Times And Other Franchises Shelved Limit Open-World Diversity

Watch Dogs
Watch Dogs Failed To Live Up To The Expectations As A GTA Clone Causing The Franchise’s Downfall

It won’t be an understatement if I say that GTA 6 is the most-awaited game in history. The last GTA game was released a little over a decade ago, and fans have been hungry ever since.

Surprisingly, we’ve witnessed the run of the whole Watch Dogs franchise since the release of GTA 5, with 3 titles spanning the franchise. The franchise has already been reportedly shelved while we’re still waiting for GTA 6.

Titles like Watch Dogs, Sleeping Dogs, and others have kept us entertained during the long hiatus of every GTA release. However, the modern open-world genre has become less diverse with each decade.

This is because these games couldn’t live up to the comparison with GTA, which was used as the benchmark.

Watch Dogs is still one of my favorite games. Ubisoft eventually went in the wrong direction with the series, trying to rid itself of the comparisons, which has reportedly led to the franchise being shelved.

Now that GTA 6 is nearing release, we don’t have any open-world sandbox game to look forward to, or as others would call it, GTA Clones. The only title releasing next is Mafia 4, which will probably be overshadowed by GTA 6 since it will be released in the same time frame.

It’s unfortunate that we won’t see as many experiments or diversity in the open-world genre as we once did. This does make sense since these comparisons demotivate developers. Even though that isn’t the case, all of the development time and effort put into the game is ruined after being called out for copying GTA games.

Batman Arkham Shadows Might Be The Final Nail In The Coffin For The Series

Story Highlight
  • Rocksteady’s direction with the Arkham franchise has only worsened with their latest VR title, which nobody wants.
  • Batman Arkham Shadows will be a Meta Quest 3 exclusive, further making it prone to be a commercial failure
  • Batman will evidently get a new start in the video game world and will hopefully get a tie-in game with the new DCU.

Up until a year ago, the Batman Arkham series was my favourite gaming franchise. Those games made me truly fall in love with The Dark Knight. Since playing the Arkham games, I’ve become a huge Batman fan and read almost all his comic issues.

However, Rocksteady has now become a shell of its former self and hasn’t been that kind to the Dark Knight. The Arkham franchise is no longer what we know of since the release of Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League, a game universally hated.

The recent announcement of the first mainline Arkham game in nearly a decade seemed promising, but it turned out to be a VR game—and a huge letdown even after all the low expectations I had from Rocksteady. This was the franchise’s last chance to redeem itself, and I fear that Rocksteady has just blown it.

Why It Matters: Rocksteady has butchered the Arkham series, which was once regarded as the best action series of all time. The developers are continuing to disrespect Batman’s legacy with these poor decisions.

Nobody Likes VR Exclusive Games

Batman: Arkham Series
Batman: Arkham VR was a cool game, but many missed it due to its VR exclusivity.

The VR concept is cool, and I love how games are ported to the platform after being released as proper console and PC titles. However, Rocksteady’s decision to make Batman Arkham Shadows was a little dumb, considering the track record of VR-exclusive games.

Assassin’s Creed Nexus was released last year, and despite being absolutely amazing, it was considered a commercial failure because it was released on a platform with a relatively small market.

Hence, I can already foreshadow Batman Arkham Shadows as a commercial failure, which is backed by the fact that on top of a VR exclusive, the game is also a Meta Quest 3 platform exclusive.

Personally, I know very few people who use VR and even fewer with Meta Quest 3. Even among Meta Quest 3 users, I don’t think everyone will buy Batman Arkham Shadows. I doubt that the title’s sales will even cover the development costs.

Batman Arkham Shadows Looks Amazing But Not Something That The Franchise Needs

Batman Kevin Conroy
Arkham Batman’s Last Appearance Was Underwhelming And In Desperate Need Of A Redemption

One would think that, after Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League’s failure and almost being shut down as a studio, Rocksteady would make a huge comeback and try to redeem itself, but they’ve already sunken further.

Whether a publisher or studio decision, going VR wasn’t the right choice; people needed a AAA title that would follow Batman Arkham Knight’s story. It was still pretty heartbreaking to see a Batman Beyond title in the franchise that was set years after the events of Arkham Knight being scrapped for Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League.

All talks aside, Batman Arkham Shadows looks good from the small clips we’ve seen in the trailer, and I love that we’ll get to witness the old gameplay styles from Arkham City—at least some of us will.

Regardless, the game looks outdated and is a carbon copy of the older games. Batman Arkham VR was a better concept but still not what the franchise needs right now. All Warner Bros. and Rocksteady have done is set themselves for failure with this title.

New Beginnings For Batman

The Batman
Matt Reeves Batman Reportedly Getting A Game

Rocksteady can’t be trusted with future Arkham or Batman games, and that’s something every one of us can agree upon. I can also see the Arkham series being laid to rest and the caped crusader getting new beginnings in the future.

With James Gunn as the new co-CEO of DC Studios, he’s decided to bring together the animated department, live-action, and video games in the same universe.

As such, we’ll probably get to see tie-in DC video games, and characters like Superman and Batman will probably get video game adaptations in the DCU. Hopefully, under James Gunn’s supervision, the character will get the love from the creative team that it got from the original Arkham trilogy.

Nintendo Reportedly Revealing Trailer For Next-Gen Console In 6 Weeks

Story Highlight
  • A leaker suggests that Nintendo has prepared a new trailer for a next-gen console.
  • He believes this trailer could be made public within six weeks, with the gaming giant announcing the Nintendo Switch 2.
  • Multiple sources seem to be backing up this claim.

Following Sony’s announcement of the PS5 Pro, the Nintendo Switch 2 is next in line. With rumors discussing this hardware for well over a year at this point, excitement is still high for what could be Nintendo’s most successful generation.

Not too long ago, there were rumblings about the gaming giant potentially gearing up for an initial reveal. While nothing much has happened yet, another source indicates that the first look could arrive by next month.

Why it matters: The current Nintendo Switch has shown its limitations for many years now. Therefore, a more powerful device would be a breath of fresh air for both developers and fans.

Nintendo Switch 2
The New Hardware Will Come With Nvidia’s Latest Tech

The latest information comes from Paul Gale, who states that a commercial was recently filmed by Nintendo.

He mentions that this commercial is similar to what gaming companies have used to promote upcoming consoles in the past, potentially leaving up to six weeks before the Nintendo Switch 2 is officially announced.

Quite recently, a trailer-like commercial was filmed to promote a certain next generation console.

-Paul Gale

Interestingly, the very reliable Nate The Hate seems to have verified this information. Previously, the likes of VGC’s Andy Robinson have discussed an announcement related to this console happening soon.

With fans noticeably upset with the PS5 Pro, Nintendo can capitalize on the current outrage. While the gaming giant would not complete with $700 hardware, a reveal right now could help create early excitement for the next hybrid console.

Nintendo Switch 2
Fans Are Excited To See New First-Party Games Next Year

It is important to note that both insiders are still trying to verify the information.

Nate The Hate implies that an additional piece of information may appear in a game trailer soon, which would verify the details of said commercial. As such, more on this specific leak could be revealed as the situation develops.

According to past reports, the Nintendo Switch 2 will almost certainly arrive in 2025. Therefore, a small teaser during September or October, followed by a full reveal a few months later, would make a lot of sense to create buzz before 2025.

Should You Base Your Console On The Exclusives?

Story Highlight
  • Console exclusives are a significant factor in differentiating platforms, though their importance is debated, with some arguing they limit the overall market.
  • Performance differences between major consoles have been minimized, leaving game libraries, particularly exclusives, as the primary distinction.
  • Beyond exclusives, factors like price, peripherals, and game subscription services play crucial roles in choosing a console.

Consoles have always relied on exclusives to boost their appeal, but some argue these games hinder the overall market. Today, we’ll discuss whether exclusives should be a key factor in choosing a console.

Good Or Bad

Exclusives are debatably the best set of games that a console can offer. Some people think these experiences cannot be crafted without the exclusivity and focus of only making it for a single console, while others think it’s selfish for one console to hoard art to itself.

Whatever your aliases might be, exclusives are a thing, and they will remain exclusive, at least between consoles. Consoles have adopted PC releases of their exclusives as well, with some being released on the same day, while PlayStation takes a few years to do so.

Come along as we explore whether you should base your console decision on the exclusives!

Center Piece Of The Consoles

In the old days, there were large differences between the performance of consoles from one company to another. Something like the PS1 was miles ahead of the N64 when it was released, but the difference has become much more timid with the years.

PS Exclusives

That being said, if you are looking for a console these days, you can choose three companies, with the two major ones having very similar performance. This leaves the software surrounding them to be mostly the only thing differentiating them.

This software comprises the game services and the games themselves, with the only differences being the exclusives. If you get a Series X or a PS5, you’re not going to notice a difference in performance, but the libraries can differ.

Overrated(?)

With all the smash hit exclusives like the ones from Playstation, people create hype around the consoles to a degree that might not be true. Sure, something like Bloodborne or God Of War might be amazing gaming experiences, but you can still have fun playing Elden Ring or Hellblade on any console.

The Last Of Us 2 On Metacritic (Image By Tech4Gamers)

People tend to create biases in their minds, saying that if they don’t get to play X game, the console isn’t worth getting, but that’s dismissing a lot for a relatively small reason.

This is not to dismiss the advantages a single console game has over its competition, being tailored for its hardware, meaning the technical aspects of these games are usually more or less flawless, at least more than an all-platform game. Still, you can find amazing games on any console.

What Else To Decide On

The question arises: if you’re going to decide on the exclusives, what remains for you to decide on your console? There are a couple of things that you might want to consider.

First of all, the price might be more important for a lot of people. Some consoles like the recent Xboxes frequently go on sale, and saving yourself a few bucks to buy games later might be the best play.

Xbox Game Pass
Xbox Game Pass (Image By Tech4Gamers)

Secondly, look at the things surrounding the console. I know people who bought the PS5 just for its exciting new controller (underutilized, but we’ll talk about it another day), while some people are die-hards for the switch because of its handheld nature.

Lastly, the game subscription service might be another huge factor in purchasing decisions. Between Playstation Plus and Xbox Game Pass, we all know what the right decision is but its important to keep this in mind as a good library of games will likely cost you as much as the console itself, if not more.

Should You?

Having talked about most things that make the consoles different, I think it’s safe to say that exclusives are one of the biggest things setting them apart. Still, you need to keep in mind that your favorite console might change it’s approach to its exclusives, either diversifying or shifting to something that you might not enjoy as much.

Either way, keep an open mind to the non-exclusive games that you can play and whatever else the console you wish to buy offers.

PS5 Pro Is A $350 Upgrade for Trade-In Users, Says Ex-Blizzard Boss

Story Highlight
  • The ex-Blizzard boss says PS5 Pro is a $350 upgrade for the existing PS5 owners.
  • You can trade your base console for $350 and use the amount to get the upgraded model.
  • He also said that you don’t have to buy the PS5 Pro, as the base model is still good enough.

PlayStation 5 Pro costs a staggering $700 just for the digital console. The announcement has garnered a lot of criticism from the MSRP. The total comes at over $800 when you also get a disk drive and a stand.

However, the former Blizzard boss says the PS5 Pro is more like a $350 upgrade as it targets existing users who want to trade their base PS5 for the Pro variant.

Why it matters: The PS5 Pro seems to be aimed at those who already own the base version and would want an upgrade for $350.

PS5 Pro New Featured
PS5 Pro is targeted at existing PS5 users

Mike Ybarra Tweeted that his perspective on the console is a bit different. He doesn’t think the console is for a newer audience; the mid-gen refresh or pro consoles are usually targeted at people who already have the base models.

The business model in this regard is that an existing PS5 owner can trade their console for $350 in places like GameStop. Then, they can pay a further $350 and upgrade to the Pro model, which is easier for most people to stomach.

The model is: existing PS5 owners can trade in their PS5 at places like GameStop for $350 in credit (today)

– Mike Ybarra

He said that while this model isn’t for everyone either, it’s the fundamental one that the industry uses. Replying to a comment that stated that the whole scenario still isn’t a good deal, Ybarra said, ‘Good news is no one has to buy it’.

It is only good for people who can afford it and boast that they have the most powerful console in the world. But for the masses out there, the existing PS5 is fine, and they should be happy with it.

Now, the PS5 Pro does have some nice upgrades, but it is still not worth almost $800.

PSSR Aims To Eliminate The Performance Vs. Quality Debate

Story Highlight
  • The PS5 Pro has 28% faster RAM and a GPU with 67% more processing units, potentially outperforming the Xbox Series X.
  • It features super-resolution technology and AI upscaling to enhance graphics and frame rates without needing separate performance or quality settings.
  • The PS5 Pro’s new features are limited to select games and PS VR2 titles, with a price tag of $699 in the US.

Mark Cerny, PlayStation’s hardware lead, revealed the PS5 Pro on YouTube earlier today, outlining the features that gamers can expect when the system launches on November 7, 2024.

According to Mark Cerny, Sony wants to eliminate the necessity for players to choose between performance and quality settings in console games by utilizing super-resolution technology.

Why it matters: PSSR was rumoured to be highly effective, and it seems like Sony has succeeded in making those rumours come true.

PS5 Pro is Being Highly Criticized Due To Its Price Tag

Along with 28% faster RAM, the PS5 Pro boasts a substantially improved GPU featuring 67% more processing units. The Xbox Series X, which has long held the title of “world’s most powerful console,” might be overtaken by it, even though actual performance hasn’t always supported that claim.

While the faster memory, more compute units, and enhanced ray-tracing capabilities are all fantastic, Sony has also created a unique AI upscaling capability that is likely to be crucial in maintaining the ray-traced effects while achieving high frame rates.

Developers do not need to release a PS5 Pro patch for PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution to function throughout the whole library. This would be a major selling factor for fans who are still undecided, considering the steep price tag ($699, £699, €799)

That being said, the PlayStation 5 Pro announcement trailer states otherwise, restricting the feature to a limited number of improved PS5 games. The company also plans to implement it across multiple PS VR2 titles.

The PS5 Pro has AMD’s latest advanced ray tracing feature sets, which represent the next evolution of the company’s roadmap architecture. However, it’s not yet used by any current AMD hardware aside from the PS5 Pro and might give us a glimpse at what future AMD hardware can do in the PC sector.
