How Proxy Servers Can Help Competitive Gamers Improve Their Gameplay

Story Highlight
  • Proxy servers can lower ping for competitive gamers by transmitting data through a shorter route.
  • The SOCKS5 protocol is ideal in this situation to keep ping at bay.
  • Identifying bottlenecks before opting for a server is also a good idea.

Split-second decisions make all the difference when it comes to competitive games, and this is where proxy servers truly shine. High-quality residential proxies provide access to real IP addresses, making it possible to route data in the most optimized manner for the best results.

Why it matters: Titles like Rainbow Six Siege, Battlefield 6, and more have established thriving online communities. This also means that the players with the best connections often perform better than everyone else in these titles.

Why Proxy Servers Are Important

Valorant Gameplay (Image Credits – Riot Games)
Games Like Valorant Require The Best Ping

When playing games online, a server and the host’s console/PC constantly exchange data. However, a problem arises when the path this data goes through is unoptimal.

For instance, providers typically look to conserve costs when choosing a route, making it so that speeds are not necessarily a primary concern to them. This is where advanced players look toward routing optimization for online games.

When connected to a proxy server that is closer to a player’s geographical location, data is transmitted through a shorter route. This leads to fewer hoops for the data to jump through, effectively cutting down latency and lag in online games.

This is especially important during peak hours when servers have to juggle a lot of traffic. Similarly, in more competitive settings, proxy servers can provide a major advantage since each millisecond can be the difference between a win and a loss.

Choosing a Proxy For Your Needs

When picking a proxy connection, speed alone isn’t the most important. Instead, reliability needs to be given just as much importance, so gamers must evaluate all parameters when going for a residential proxy.

These are also beneficial as they offer real IP addresses for a natural online experience. On the other hand, datacenters offer high-speed proxy servers, but their stability suffers compared to residential proxies.

When choosing a residential proxy, it’s best to carefully look for an uptime of 99%, availability of servers in regions where game data centers are located, etc.

High-Speed Proxy Servers And Protocols

battlefield 6
First-Person Shooters Like Battlefield 6 Benefit From Low Latency

When picking a provider, priority must be given to the connection protocol itself. Choosing SOCKS5 is the ideal option since it operates at a low level and transfers data without any unnecessary header processing, making it more valuable for gaming.

Also, HTTP proxies offer a downside in the form of overhead that becomes more noticeable on high-bandwidth, low-latency servers. Therefore, to keep ping at a minimum for competitive gameplay, SOCKS5 is the best choice.

Where To Start

When opting for a proxy server, it’s essential to identify potential bottlenecks and hurdles beforehand. Using connection diagnostic tools can come in handy here, helping users identify bandwidth loss for each node.

Also, proxy servers can be used alongside these tools to make the process more seamless. To minimize packet loss, it’s important to prioritize the wired connection and use the router’s QoS settings.

Ultimately, relying on a proxy server can help gamers overcome jitter, packet loss, and all sorts of other network-related problems that come in the way of gameplay.

As mentioned earlier, sticking to the SOCKS5 protocol and using diagnostic tools to identify the bottleneck are recommended, and one must also take care to examine connection speed and stability at all times.

How Browser Gaming Has Evolved To Offer Fun Experiences Today

Story Highlight
  • Browser games remain popular among millions of users today.
  • They offer convenient and accessible experiences to reach a wide audience.
  • Many of these games also use technology like OpenGL for 3D graphics to enhance the visuals and gameplay.

Games come in all shapes and sizes, which is exactly why flash titles remain so popular today. Even with options like the latest and greatest AAA titles, handheld games on consoles like the Nintendo Switch 2, and gacha games on phones, many continue to gravitate to the reliability of browser-based Flash games.

Not only do these HTML5 games offer great and memorable experiences, but they are accessible practically everywhere. This is precisely why platforms like Y8 are so interesting today.

Why it matters: Although simple in nature, gaming on browsers can be a lot of fun at times.

How Browser Games Stand Out

Browser Games on Y8
A Title Like MotoX3M Is Incredibly Enjoyable

Compared to older browser games with a lot of problems, modern options benefit from the more mature technology. In particular, HTML5 games make it so users can simply jump in and out of games without a hassle.

HTML5 by itself is also impressive as it means these titles can support a wide range of devices through compatibility with keyboard and mouse inputs in addition to touch controls.

Moreover, relying on HTML5 gives developers the ability to update their titles in real-time. When players launch a game after an update is pushed out, they simply play the latest version without having to download any additional data.

A platform like Y8.com benefits from a consistent experience because of this implementation.

WebGL Changes the Scope of Games

Like HTML5, WebGL helps push browser-based games forward. WebGL effectively allows for the use of a PC GPU inside the browser for real-time 3D rendering, making it possible to ship browser games with advanced lighting, physics, and environments.

As an example, a title like Snow Rider 3D illustrates smooth movement, depth, and environmental interactions. These experiences, built from the ground up for a browser, showcase just how far this segment of gaming has come.

This results in a wide range of options for those who prefer browser games. Titles that take advantage of WebGL naturally offer more advanced visuals and gameplay, giving users additional choice when it comes to playing games.

Performance And Optimization

Browser Games on Y8
Browser Games on Y8 Offer A Wide Variety

What makes these games appealing is their click-and-play experience, but a lot of work goes into making this possible.

Due to the sheer variety of hardware used by players, games typically load only the necessary information when starting out. Then, the rest is filled in as the game goes on, leading to a fast and responsive experience.

Also, developers work on file sizes and memory management to ensure a seamless experience.

Convenient And Accessible Gameplay

As mentioned earlier, accessibility is a big part of what makes these games so appealing. A lot of browser games can simply be loaded up for a few minutes during breaks from work or study sessions.

As an example, a title like Slope and Drift Boss is easy to get in and out of. On the other hand, games like Moto X3M and Interstellar Legends add progression while retaining a similar accessible foundation.

Accessibility is also a major part of the end-user experience since browser games eliminate the barrier of entry associated with AAA titles. Players can simply rely on smartphones or basic computers to jump into games they find appealing, making for instant gameplay sessions.

It’s worth noting that the browser gaming experience is still very much evolving as it attempts to bridge the gap between itself and installed titles.

Technologies like WebGL and HTML5 have real potential for the future, so platforms like Y8.com are expected to become even more important as this part of the games business changes.

Story Highlight
  • PlayStation showed a heavy AI emphasis on its recent investor call meeting.
  • The company also used an AI animation tool to remaster Horizon Zero Dawn.
  • Other first-party studios are also using it, as the company goes all out on the tech.

PlayStation recently held its earnings call for this quarter and AI was the at the helm of it. The gaming giants showed intention towards going all out with AI, with all of its major first-party titles using the tech to enhance game development.

Now, it has been revealed that PlayStation used its new AI animation tool for its remasters like Horizon Zero Dawn. The tool animates 3D facial model based on the performance capture expiditing the whole process.

Why it matters: In these kind of scenarios using AI does sound like the right and a very effecient move. However, fans are worried that if they use the tech too deeply for game development, they’ll turn into slops.

Guerilla Co-Founder Is Making A New Game Engine With AI-Integration To Rival Unreal Engine

Story Highlight
  • Guerrilla co-founder Arjan Brussee is developing an engine with full AI integration to rival UE5.
  • The former Epic dev thinks new software built on AI-based principles could do the work of 10 people.
  • Titled The Immense Engine, this software will be fully hosted in Europe.

Unreal Engine 5 has developed an unspoken dominance in the gaming world since its inception. Besides studios that employ an in-house engine, most developers utilise the Epic software. However, titles using Unreal Engine 5 have notoriously suffered from performance issues, with the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake being a recent example of this.

Developers have started to trim the engine’s key features to achieve better results with Phantom Blade Zero and Arc Raiders, implementing this method. However, studios could obtain a formidable alternative to Unreal Engine 5 if Guerrilla co-founder Arjan Brussee succeeds in his efforts.

Why it matters: Unreal Engine 5 is in no way horrible, but having options is never bad, and if the software gets some competition, Epic might work harder on its next iteration.

In an interview with De Technology, former Epic programmer Arjan Brussee revealed that he is building a new game engine called The Immense Engine with a Dutch startup that will offer developers a European alternative to American and Chinese software.

The rise of AI means that we need to approach the development of this kind of crucial software differently. If you are smart and know how to put a good framework of AI agents to work, you can do the work of ten or fifteen people.

The Guerrilla co-founder explained that he sees this new engine as an opportunity to build something with the full integration of AI. Unlike Unreal, which is made by and for people who are used to manual work, The Immense Engine will be built on entirely new construction principles that utilise a framework of AI agents.

AI agents like Claude and ChatGPT will be present as modules inside this new software, and new features for any LLM can be easily integrated into the engine. Brussee is approaching the development of The Immense Engine differently due to AI’s meteoric rise, and the Dutch industry veteran thinks developers can do the work of 10 people by utilising AI agents

UE5 has seemingly worked better when devs haven’t utilised its key features.

Moreover, Arjan Brussee also emphasized the importance of this software being European, as the region doesn’t have an engine natively built and hosted by Europeans. Therefore, if or when he succeeds in building it, The Immense Engine could also be utilised for Defence and Logistics.

New Resident Evil Requiem DLC Faces Mixed Reception From Players

Story Highlight
  • The new and free Resident Evil Requiem DLC has received a mixed response online from players and critics.
  • Many fans would have preferred a classic Mercenaries mode instead.
  • Leon Must Die Forever feels uninspired and heavily focused on RNG, which disappointed players.

Resident Evil Requiem turned out to be one of Capcom’s most successful ventures ever, even setting a new sales milestone in the highly successful IP. Many fans naturally had high expectations for the game’s future, but its new DLC has failed to match the hype.

The free DLC features the Leon Must Die Forever game mode, which is best described as a longer rogue-like survival gauntlet focused on exploration, random upgrades based on RNG, and campaign maps with plot-related events.

However, it has several gameplay flaws.

Why it matters: Capcom has fumbled the ball with the new free DLC for Resident Evil Requiem. A lack of flawed gameplay elements, instead of an action focus, has plunged it into a mixed reception.

Including Reddit, the sources above highlight several different criticisms that Leon Must Die Forever has faced. Many players online criticized a lack of more maps and the huge focus on RNG, for example.

It essentially feels like playing a worse version of the campaign to many players. For those not in the know, players need to survive campaign maps and power Leon up enough to defeat Victor, the final boss, for completion.

The DLC differs significantly from the Mercenaries experience, which increases the timer the more you kill the enemies. Therefore, many players would have preferred the more action-focused classic mode instead.

Resident Evil Requiem
Even Leon’s return in the new DLC could not save it from a mixed reception.

Ethan Must Die had proven to be more well-implemented and popular, so these flaws have left many gamers confused. Even reviewers have evaluated the new DLC harshly, with Push Square claiming that it is ‘not worth going back to RE Requiem for.’

Do you think the new Leon Must Die Forever mode is a good substitute for Mercenaries? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Despite Laying Off 1,000 Devs, Epic Says AI Isn’t Killing Jobs And Is Making Them More Efficient

Story Highlight
  • A senior development manager at Epic revealed the company isn’t using AI to steal jobs from people.
  • AI will only be used at the company to improve efficiency and reduce task duration.
  • Furthermore, no Fortnite development partners will be allowed to utilise AI.

Yesterday, Sony became the biggest entity in the gaming industry to openly embrace AI as the way forward. Just like EA, the Japanese company also insisted that the technology won’t replace human jobs or creativity, but instead amplify them.

According to executives, AI is already the norm in the gaming world, with 9 out of 10 studios using it in development but just not disclosing this info. Fortnite creator Epic Games holds a similar opinion to Sony and EA when it comes to the technology, saying AI tools are making jobs less hectic rather than taking them away.

Why it matters: Epic’s intentions might be right when it comes to utilising the technology, but fans will find its statement on job safety hard to swallow, considering the company fired 1,000 employees in 2026.

Epic Games
Epic Games fired 1,000 employees earlier this year.

While talking to GamesRadar, Stephanie Arnette, the senior development manager for Fortnite, stated that even though Epic recently fired 1,000 employees, AI isn’t being used to make jobs redundant at the company.

Epic has been exploring different AI tooling that we can use to help support our games. I know everyone’s biggest fear is, ‘Oh my god, AI is going to take all our jobs.’ That’s not our goal. The goal is to make us more efficient.

According to Arnette, Epic has been exploring different AI tools to help support games and make the company more efficient. However, its goal isn’t to take jobs away from human creatives like many people seem to think.

She further explained that the technology is being explored to reduce the time required for certain tasks. Furthermore, Stephanie Arnette also revealed that the company will use AI for artistic ventures.

Fortnite epic
Epic won’t allow development partners to use AI for Fortnite.

After hearing Sony’s remarks yesterday, it seems like Epic is borrowing from the same playbook. But considering its recent history with layoffs, it’s hard to believe the job safety rhetoric.

Stephanie Arnette also clarified that no Fortnite development partner can implement the technology from their end, as Epic will dictate if AI is used during the development process of Fortnite

Sony Now Actively Inviting PS4 Players To Upgrade To PS5 For GTA 6 Release

Story Highlight
  • Sony is inviting the remaining PS4 players over to PS5 in a new marketing campaign.
  • This invitation is actively targeting gamers who wishlisted GTA 6, asking them to prepare for its release.
  • The campaign appears to be international, as gamers worldwide are reportedly receiving the emails.

Sony’s PS5 sales have been slowing down significantly in recent months due to price hikes, as the console hovers around the 100 million lifetime milestone. It has also sold fewer units than the PS4 over the same period, and the gap between the two has widened over time.

However, Sony appears to be cooking up a big PS5 promotion to turn things around.

New reports reveal that Sony is actively sending emails to PlayStation 4 users, asking them to switch over to PS5. The brand wants them to prepare for GTA 6 ahead of its expected November 19, 2026, launch.

Why it matters: The new marketing campaign could give Sony the push needed to catch up to PS4, as the ongoing memory apocalypse and price hikes have slowed this goal over time. Many PS4 users are expected to buy a PS5 when GTA 6 rolls around.

Including GTA 6 Countdown on Twitter, multiple other sources and users online have reported receiving these messages in different formats. Some users received emails, while others saw them through the console’s notification center.

This message is reportedly being sent to gamers who wishlisted GTA 6 since Sony wants them to buy a PS5 ahead of its awaited launch. The timing also coincides with the expected GTA 6 summer marketing schedule.

Regardless, the PS5 marketing campaign also targets international users, as indicated by the same message being sent to players in different languages.

This marketing campaign is likely Sony’s final major attempt to sell as many PlayStation 5 units as possible before the next generation era slowly rolls around.

PS5 Declining Sales
The PS5 sales have declined over time.

Analysts have always argued that GTA 6 will help Sony sell a lot of PS5 units and move a large chunk of remaining PS4 players to the PS5. A report earlier claimed that the sudden GTA 6 delays were a ‘real blow’ to the PlayStation economy.

Do you think the new Sony marketing campaign will convince a lot of PS4 users? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis Still on Track For 2026 Despite Rumors of Delay

Story Highlight
  • There were rumors that Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis had been delayed to 2027.
  • One of the support studios has reconfirmed that it is indeed still planned for 2026.
  • The title is a faithful remake of the original game built in Unreal Engine 5.

Originally revealed at The Game Awards 2025, the announcement of the Tomb Raider caught everyone by pleasant surprise. While it was announced for a 2026 release at the event, rumors pointed to a delay to 2027

However, one of the support studios working with Crystal Dynamics on Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis has reaffirmed the 2026 release, putting the rumors to rest. This means we might get a concrete release date very soon.

Why it matters: The studio has been going through hell, with constant layoffs, restructuring, and multiple project cancellations in the last few years, so many anticipated that to be the reason for the rumored delay.

Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis still comes out this year

Electric Square, one of the support studios on Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis, pinned a note on LinkedIn revealing its contribution to the upcoming remake and reaffirming the 2026 release window, but still no proper date.

This clears out the rumors and confirms that it will indeed be released this year. With the Summer Game Fest coming up, we might get the release date soon. This also suggests Tomb Raider Catalyst is still on track as well.

Fans are already hyped about the remake

Anyhow, even with the troubles at Crystal Dynamics, Tomb Raider is one franchise that they’ve never gotten wrong. The trailers have also promised great potential, so the expectations are already quite high

PS6 Release Window To Be Heavily Influenced By Memory Pricing, Sony Says

Story Highlight
  • Sony CEO Hiroki Totoki states that the PS6 does not have a release window for now.
  • The company expects memory prices to remain high and hopes to observe the situation further before making a final decision.
  • Sony is also considering alternative product launches as a solution.

While the PS5 continues to move full speed ahead with upcoming releases like Marvel’s Wolverine and GTA 6 lined up for 2026, Sony is investing a lot of time and effort into the development of the PS6 at the same time.

As the PS5 heads into its sixth year, the console is expected to be replaced by its follow-up soon. Sony also recently discussed the launch of the next PlayStation, suggesting that a release window would be carefully decided upon based on the memory situation.

Why it matters: PlayStation typically pursues new console releases every six to seven years. However, the current expenses surrounding the hardware industry, particularly due to DRAM prices, make the generational transition more complicated.

The PS6 Could Finally Deliver True 4K60FPS Gameplay

As part of its Fiscal Year earnings releases, Sony CEO Hiroki Totoki recently addressed the status of the PS6 and its plans for the future.

As reported on Resetera, the PS6 does not currently have a decided-upon release window. This is because Sony is not sure how the market will evolve and expects component prices to remain high next year.

At the same time, Sony intends to continue exploring other products to deal with the situation. This could be an indirect nod to the rumored PS6 handheld from the gaming giant.

Nonetheless, the discussion suggests that PlayStation is at least open to delaying the PS6 to 2028 if the situation does not improve substantially. Moreover, consumers can expect a hefty launch price for the hardware if memory remains as expensive as it currently is.

Marvel's Wolverine
Marvel’s Wolverine gets its first gameplay trailer after 4 years

Sony’s response also means that others like Microsoft are likely facing a similar dilemma. Although Xbox Project Helix developer kits are set to go out early next year, it will be interesting to see whether the console is pushed back amid the ongoing memory crisis.

Of course, fans can also expect an extended cross-gen period yet again if the PS6 and Xbox Project Helix launch at high prices due to the memory pricing problems.

Do you think the PS6 will launch next year? Let’s discuss in the comments and on the Teach4Gamers Forums.

Sony Outlines Plan To Go All In On AI, Every First-Party Studio Is Incorporating AI

Story Highlight
  • During its Q4 earnings presentation, Sony highlighted its heavy push for AI tools.
  • All first-party studios are using AI for quality assurance, 3D modelling, and animation.
  • The company is partnering up with Bandai Namco to further explore generative AI, but it doesn’t want to replace creatives.

Despite universal disdain for the technology, AI proliferation in the gaming industry has only increased this year. Major companies like EA are relying heavily on the tool, letting it handle 85% of its quality assurance work, while 9 out of 10 studios are currently using generative AI but not disclosing it due to fear of backlash.

However, even this fear is fading away, as Sony has also outlined plans to incorporate AI tools into game development and is pushing heavily to utilise the technology.

Why it matters: From the looks of it, Sony is pushing heavily for AI so it can reduce the tedious nature of modern AAA development and help its developers release titles at a faster pace.

In its Q4 2025 financial report, Sony revealed that all PlayStation studios are incorporating AI, and the company will partner with Bandai Namco to further explore generative AI as part of an internal push to take advantage of the technology.

Sony believes AI will increase the diversity and volume of content, and instead of replacing human creativity, the technology will amplify it to create new possibilities. CEO Hideaki Nishino revealed that PlayStation studios are already using AI tools to accelerate quality assurance, build 3D models, software engineering, and animation.

Naughty Dog is incorporating the technology to generate facial animations from motion capture data, while first-party studios are actively utilising another AI tool to make hair animation an easier process by converting video footage into real hairstyles.
