Nintendo Switch 2 Prices Officially Going Up By 10%

All Three Console Giants Have Now Increased Prices!

Story Highlight
  • Nintendo has officially announced new pricing for the Switch 2, raising the price by 10% in the US.
  • Nintendo Switch Online has also become more expensive.
  • Due to the new pricing structure, the company expects to lose 3 million sales next Fiscal Year.

Both PlayStation and Xbox went through major price hikes last year, leaving Nintendo as the only console manufacturer to keep prices stable in 2025.

However, because of memory shortages that came as an unexpected challenge to the industry, it became clear soon enough that the Japanese giant would not be able to retain prices for too long. Sure enough, the Nintendo Switch 2 has now seen a price hike.

Why it matters: In the past, consoles became cheaper over time, but the back-to-back challenges faced by the industry have led to this trend shifting in the opposite direction this generation.

Switch 2 Digital Games Are Now $10 Less Cheaper

In an official announcement, the company has now confirmed new prices for the Nintendo Switch 2. The console now costs $500 in the US, up from the $450 MSRP. Similarly, prices in Canada have risen from $630 to $680.

In Japan, the console now costs a whopping ¥59,980, marking an increase of ¥10,000. These changes officially take effect on May 25 in Japan and September 1 in the US, Canada, and Europe.

Interestingly, the gaming giant has even increased the prices of the last-gen Nintendo Switch models in Japan. However, the price hikes aren’t limited to just console hardware.

The company has also increased Nintendo Switch Online prices, though this change is limited to Japan for now. According to the new prices, the 12-month plan will now cost ¥3,000 compared to the previous price of ¥2,400.

All things considered, this price hike is still relatively conservative. However, because both PlayStation and Xbox have raised prices more than once, Nintendo will likely do the same as memory shortages persist.

To account for the new price, the gaming giant has also revised its sales target, expecting to lose 3 million sales during the Fiscal Year.
