Fans Say AMD’s FSR 4 Redstone Is A Failure, Consider Switching To NVIDIA RTX Series

Only Two Games Have Utilized The Redstone Suite So Far.

Story Highlight
  • Users on Reddit state that AMD’s FSR 4 Redstone update has been a failure so far.
  • The upscaling suite promised fans that FSR 4 would be able to go toe-to-toe with DLSS.
  • However, fans have seen no substantial improvements, and only two games have utilized the technology, resulting in many considering a switch to Nvidia’s RTX GPUs.

Nvidia has always been ahead of AMD in the upscaling race, but with the introduction of FSR 4, the American company’s upscaler was finally matching up to its competitor. The announcement of FSR 4’s Redstone suite enticed fans even more as AMD finally embraced machine learning and promised to go head-to-head with DLSS.

However, a year on from its announcement, Project Redstone has failed to impress and fulfill promises like third-party GPU support. The update has suffered from a lack of implementation, and in contrast to the excitement at launch, fans now think it has failed to live up to expectations.

Why it matters: AMD gave consumers genuine hope it could compete with DLSS, but from the looks of it, the company still has catching up to do.

On the Radeon subreddit, fans unanimously agreed that the FSR 4 Redstone update has been a disappointment so far, with many considering a switch to Nvidia’s RTX series. Almost a year on from its announcement, the Project Redstone suite has only been utilised in two games, Crimson Desert and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.

Furthermore, despite AMD claiming that Redstone would help FSR 4 go head-to-head with DLSS, there have been no substantial improvements, even in the limited available releases. One fan said that the amount of hype around the technology, compared to the lack of delivery in both performance and implementation, has left him disappointed.

Another user stated that even though they like their Radeon RX 9070 XT, they regret falling for the Project Redstone hype and not buying an Nvidia GPU. Many others on the subreddit held the same opinion, stating that paying $150 more for DLSS is a bargain to ditch AMD, as FSR 4 Redstone has not fulfilled any promises it made.

Despite ambiguity around future support and disappointing results, others were willing to give their RX 9000 series GPUs and the Redstone upscaling tech another year. However, most users have been let down by AMD and can’t wait to buy an Nvidia GPU.
