Ever since Asha Sharma ascended to the top of Xbox, the new CEO has been making sweeping changes to reconcile the company and its fans. From lowering Game Pass prices significantly to making the overall brand more affordable, Sharma has taken some important steps to resurrect the gaming giant.
The CEO is even taking a second look at exclusivity and has promised fans that the company will reevaluate its multiplatform strategy. As it turns out, Asha Sharma has made another round of changes at Xbox, this time taking out AI assistant Copilot.
Why it matters: Getting rid of an unnecessary AI assistant that fans haven’t asked for showcases that Asha Sharma is focusing on the right things at Xbox.
In a post on X, Asha Sharma revealed that Xbox will stop developing the AI assistant Copilot for consoles. While addressing leadership changes at Xbox, the CEO stated that she is going to retire features that don’t align with the company’s new direction, and that includes Copilot.
As part of this new shift, Xbox will also wind down the AI assistant on mobile, while its eventual launch on consoles will be cancelled. Previously, the gaming giant had announced that Copilot would come to current-gen Xbox hardware by the end of 2026, as part of Microsoft’s AI push.
Furthermore, the AI assistant was also going to be an integral part of the next-gen Xbox Helix. However, it seems like AI companions do not align with Asha Sharma’s vision for the company.
In the X post, the new CEO emphasized that she wants to deepen the connection between the company and its fans while reducing the friction between them, and getting rid of AI seems like a surefire way to do it.
