New Steam Controller Is A Huge Success, Entire Stock Sells Out Within 30 Minutes

Steam Also Crashed After Sales Went Live Due To High Traffic!

Story Highlight
  • Valve’s new Steam Controller has proven to be so popular that the entire stock sold out within 30 minutes.
  • The sales saw a huge influx of gamers trying to snag a unit, crashing the entire platform.
  • Many gamers were unable to buy a piece despite multiple attempts.

The new-generation Steam Controller is definitely an upgrade over the old one. The TMR magnetic thumbsticks solve the drift-stick dilemma found in other controllers, while a stylish ergonomic design makes it quite aesthetic and comfortable to hold at the same time.

Therefore, it’s no surprise to argue that the controller would sell like hotcakes, but the entire stock sold out in a matter of minutes as soon as sales went live. The milestone confirms that Valve’s foray into a new lineup of hardware is more than a simple success.

Why it matters: The stock running out so fast confirms that Valve’s Steam Controller has been nothing short of successful. This is a far cry from how the reception of its old-generation controller went.

The official page for the Steam Controller confirms it is still currently ‘out of stock.’

Many hawk-eyed gamers who rushed to purchase a piece were unable to buy one after a few minutes since the supply ran out. A new batch of stock reportedly appeared after 15 minutes of sales, but it also quickly dried up within the next few moments.

It didn’t help that Steam crashed due to the high influx of traffic, which caused transactions to show an error message and fail for many users. It’s unclear when a fresh batch of stock will become available in the future.

The Downdetector site saw many reports about Steam going haywire when the sales went live. The site was filled with comments from users who failed to buy the controller due to the ongoing crashes, at least at the time of writing.

This is similar to what we saw during the Steam Deck launch, and Valve’s upcoming Steam Machine will likely see a similar situation play out.
