- The debate of what GTA 6 should cost at launch has been looming for quite some time.
- An analyst suggests that the title should cost $80 for the benefit of the industry.
- He says the gaming market isn’t doing well, and others will follow Rockstar’s title.
With GTA 6 edging closer to launch than ever and marketing set to begin soon, the debate over how much the title should cost has resurfaced. While Rockstar hasn’t officially revealed anything, many have weighed in with their two cents.
An analyst has now suggested that Rockstar should price GTA 6 at $80, as this will encourage others to raise prices and it will benefit the entire industry. He said that the gaming industry is struggling, and this will help it out.
Why it matters: If GTA 6 indeed sells at $80, it will set a new precedent where AAA titles will start to cost the same. There have been reports that the studios are already at the tipping point and waiting for someone to do it.

A Bank of America analyst who was recently present at Take-Two’s earnings call, where Strauss Zelnick briefed about GTA 6. He stated that the gaming industry isn’t doing well, and GTA 6 could help it out with the new price.
(The Industry is) struggling, and would have difficulty selling games for $80 if GTA 6 came out at $70. We think it’s in Take-Two’s self-interest, as a publisher and partner to many developers, to raise the price point for the entire industry,

Games have been selling for a premium of $60-$70 for a long time now, and GTA 6 could be the title to change that, and the others will follow. However, Zelnick did state that they haven’t really decided on pricing yet.
Now, considering the scale of GTA 6, even if it sells at a higher price, it is unarguably going to fly off the shelves. However, when the new standard is followed by others, it will undoubtedly create a massive uproar.
