Relaunched RTX 3060 Now Costs More Than Latest RTX 5050 Despite Worse Performance

Nvidia GPU Pricing Makes No Sense In 2026!

Story Highlight
  • The re-released RTX 3060 has now hit prices close to $500.
  • This makes it more expensive than the superior RTX 5050, which can be purchased starting from $299.
  • The RTX 5050 comes with new software features like Frame Generation, while the RTX 3060 is limited to its older Ampere architecture.

Nvidia has recently relaunched the RTX 3060 after struggling with component shortages and supply chain problems for all of 2026 so far.

The gaming giant has even raised prices for its consumer graphics cards, and the RTX 3060 seems to have fallen victim to this problem. At the time of writing, the RTX 3060 re-release is more expensive than the RTX 5050.

Why it matters: Nvidia’s latest graphics card generations have improved significantly in terms of their software features, so this pricing difference is hard to figure out.

The graphics card was first re-launched a while back, but it was priced at around $329 initially. This was already a higher price than the RTX 3060’s market value in early 2025, but it matched the GPU’s launch MSRP.

Following restocks, the GPU is listed for as much as $479 on websites like Newegg. On the other hand, the RTX 5050 can currently be purchased for as low as $300, making this discrepancy quite interesting.

Comparing the performance of the two graphics cards, the RTX 3060 fails to match the RTX 5050 in practically every way. It also lacks new features like Multi Frame Generation due to using the older Ampere architecture.

In terms of raw rasterization, the RTX 5050 is about 15-20% faster than the aging RTX 3060, although the latter still comes with 50% more VRAM.

Ultimately, this discrepancy shows just how bad the situation is for PC gamers right now. At $300, the RTX 5050 isn’t the best value GPU to begin with, but the fact that a re-released graphics card from 5 years ago is priced at close to $500 is simply absurd.

The situation is the same across various stores in Europe, making the RTX 5050 the better buy between these two graphics cards.
