The new prices come into effect on April 2, and following this update, the PS5 will start at $599.99 for the Digital Edition. New pricing for the other editions in the US is as follows:

  • PS5 Disc Edition $649.99

Original Story:

Things may be about to get a whole lot worse for gamers as Sony is reportedly preparing for a massive PS5 price hike across Europe. This will affect all the consoles in the current lineup, including the PS5 slim, PS5 Pro, and the PlayStation Portal.

For the price increase, the report expects a €100 increase for both the PS5 Slim and the PS5 Pro, while a minor €30 increase for the PlayStation Portal.

Why it matters: This deep into a console’s generation, prices are expected to drop and not increase. The current volatility in the memory industry is really taking a toll on the gaming market.

A Major Price Hike Is Coming For The PS5 Consoles || X

This information comes from French leaker Gyo, who claimed the price increase announcement will take place soon. This would mean the PS5 Slim would now cost €650 instead of €550, and the PS5 Pro would cost €800 instead of €700. As for the PlayStation Portal, the streaming device will be priced at €250, down from €230.

As for the leaker’s credibility, Gyo has made accurate reports in the past, including the Xbox Series X|S price increase, and he also operates a video game store in France, further making his statement more believable.

The worst part is that PS5 consoles would be retailed at a higher price than Xbox Series X|S. On the other hand, the Nintendo Switch 2 price will also be raised soon, due to the same rising memory costs.

Sony Previously Claimed It Had Stockpiled Enough Memory To Avoid A Price Hike

Console sales were expected to boom this year, largely driven by GTA 6’s launch later this year, which comes as a console exclusive. As such, this price increase will surely affect the previous sale expectations.

As for the next-generation plans, reports currently suggest that Sony and Microsoft are on track for the previously announced release, which is scheduled for the holidays of 2027. However, if the situation were to get worse beyond this point, do expect PS6 and Xbox ‘Project Helix’ to get delayed.
