- Modders got a leaked DLSS 5 build running in Control before Nvidia’s official rollout.
- An early 4K test on the RTX 5070 Ti showed the game dropping from 71FPS to 35FPS.
- These numbers suggest DLSS 5 will be extremely heavy on graphics cards.
When Nvidia initially showed off DLSS 5, it received plenty of criticism from gamers. Since then, the technology has been adjusted quite a bit, and a new leak has resulted in DLSS 5 falling into gamers’ hands earlier than expected.
The technology has now been tested in games like Control, and the first tests show that it comes with quite a heavy impact on performance.
Why it matters: DLSS 5 marks the biggest leap for Nvidia’s software features since DLSS was first introduced. The company promises to revolutionize gaming graphics with this iteration.

so one of the renodx guys has dlss 5 neural rendering (ai filter) running on control. This was using the dlss nr dll found in nba 2k27. They have it working on character models only so far.

A mod that uses a DLL from NBA 2K27 has allowed gamers to test DLSS 5 in Control.
According to one developer on the RenoDX Discord server, an early test on the RTX 5070 Ti saw performance fall from 71FPS to 35FPS at 4K after DLSS 5 was enabled. That marks a roughly 50% drop despite the RTX 5070 Ti being quite a capable GPU.
Of course, this performance impact isn’t the biggest surprise. Nvidia’s DLSS 5 debut made use of two RTX 5090s, so it’s impressive to see how far it has come since then. There is also the chance that the technology will be optimized further before its official rollout.
Since the mod’s arrival, many gamers have also implemented DLSS 5 in other titles. Audiences continue to remain split on the technology, however, with many still not on board with the resulting visual look that comes after DLSS 5 is enabled.
