GTA 6 Will Force You To Think Like An Actual Criminal!

Story Highlight
  • Rockstar has completely overhauled the wanted system and police behavior in GTA 6.
  • The game introduces heat indicators, dynamic wanted stars, and a more realistic police AI.
  • The new system with persistent police memory will force players to act like actual criminals.

Whether it’s the in-depth fitness mechanics or an immersive fast travel system, Rockstar is ensuring every little feature makes GTA 6 feel as immersive as possible. The studio has also completely overhauled the wanted system in GTA 6.

The game will feature dynamic wanted stars, heat indicators, and more realistic police behavior. For example, police will only come looking once someone sees you doing a crime and reports it, or if an alarm gets triggered.

Why it matters: Police in GTA games have always been easy to evade, but not in GTA 6. You will have to plan robberies by preparing masks, destroying CCTV, managing alarms, and more to make run-ins with the law actually fun.

YouTuber TGG talks about the new wanted system he discussed with Rockstar North’s co-head Rob Nelson during his hands-off GTA 6 preview two months ago. We know that the game will feature wanted stars with different colors.

TGG explains that plain white stars mean police have a direct line of sight on you, while hollowed-out white stars appear when a crime has been reported but police have yet to identify you.

Meanwhile, flashing white stars appear when you successfully break the police’s line of sight, but they are still right behind you. Red stars appear when you lose the cops on your trail but remain in the ‘heat zone.’

Heat zones are red circles on the map that show the police search radius. Larger crimes would entail bigger zones, while smaller robberies would have the police only set up neighborhood perimeters. A six-star wanted level would be a map-wide search instead.

You can see the heat indicators on the top right corner of the screen below the stars.
You can see the heat indicators in the top right corner of the screen below the stars.

You will also have to get rid of the heat indicators, the icons revealing several descriptions about you. These indicators will remain even if the stars disappear, forcing you to get rid of them to prevent police from recognizing you.

You can remove these by destroying CCTV, changing clothes, splitting up, ditching weapons, etc. The police will also not show up on the radar unless you use focus.

Lastly, police cars will contain body armor and two-handed weapons like shotguns and assault rifles, making it the best early-game method to get them.
