Capcom Opted For Leon Must Die Forever Mode Instead Of The Classic Mercenaries!

Story Highlight
  • The new and free Resident Evil Requiem DLC has received a mixed response online from players and critics.
  • Many fans would have preferred a classic Mercenaries mode instead.
  • Leon Must Die Forever feels uninspired and heavily focused on RNG, which disappointed players.

Resident Evil Requiem turned out to be one of Capcom’s most successful ventures ever, even setting a new sales milestone in the highly successful IP. Many fans naturally had high expectations for the game’s future, but its new DLC has failed to match the hype.

The free DLC features the Leon Must Die Forever game mode, which is best described as a longer rogue-like survival gauntlet focused on exploration, random upgrades based on RNG, and campaign maps with plot-related events.

However, it has several gameplay flaws.

Why it matters: Capcom has fumbled the ball with the new free DLC for Resident Evil Requiem. A lack of flawed gameplay elements, instead of an action focus, has plunged it into a mixed reception.

Including Reddit, the sources above highlight several different criticisms that Leon Must Die Forever has faced. Many players online criticized a lack of more maps and the huge focus on RNG, for example.

It essentially feels like playing a worse version of the campaign to many players. For those not in the know, players need to survive campaign maps and power Leon up enough to defeat Victor, the final boss, for completion.

The DLC differs significantly from the Mercenaries experience, which increases the timer the more you kill the enemies. Therefore, many players would have preferred the more action-focused classic mode instead.

Even Leon’s return in the new DLC could not save it from a mixed reception.

Ethan Must Die had proven to be more well-implemented and popular, so these flaws have left many gamers confused. Even reviewers have rated the new DLC harshly, with Push Square claiming that it is ‘not worth going back to RE Requiem for.’
