However The Company Is Hiring More QA Testers Than Ever Before.

Story Highlight
  • EA CEO Andrew Wilson has revealed that 85% of the company’s QA work is driven by AI.
  • However, the gaming giant is hiring more employees than ever in the department.
  • Wilson thinks AI has increased QA jobs instead of replacing them.

As many predicted, AI proliferation in the gaming industry has only increased with time. According to a Google executive, 9 out of 10 studios are currently using the technology in development, but aren’t disclosing it due to fear of backlash.

Major companies like Ubisoft are not even hiding their reliance on generative AI, specifically looking to hire people who have experience using the technology. To make matters worse, EA is also pivoting towards AI, and according to its CEO, AI-driven algorithms already shoulder a fair share of work at the company.

Why it matters: This spin on AI may feel like ideal co-existence, but as the technology becomes more efficient and reliable, companies will start cutting jobs to save unnecessary expenditure.

EA’s CEO thinks AI has actually increased jobs.

While speaking at the iicon gaming conference, EA CEO Andrew Wilson revealed that 85% of the company’s quality assurance tasks are now done with the help of AI.

I saw some data recently, I think, now almost all—like 85%—of our quality assurance [work] is done with some kind of machine learning or AI-driven algorithm.

Despite using AI-driven algorithms for such a large portion of its QA work, Wilson stated that EA is hiring more employees in the department than ever before. He explained that the gaming giant is only using AI for basic tasks, like checking if a game is crashing or not.

Furthermore, many QA workers are needed to analyse the findings of AI, meaning that the implementation of the technology at EA has increased jobs instead of replacing them.

The CEO previously said the company’s future is AI.

When asked if AI could eventually take over from human employees, Andrew Wilson stated that so far, it has only augmented jobs. Previously, the EA CEO had claimed that the technology was the company’s future after laying off a couple of hundred employees. Hence, it wouldn’t be too surprising if that is eventually what the gaming giant wants to aim for.
