- PlayStation introduced a DRM, where your digital games disappear if you don’t log in for 30 days.
- Fans are outraged by this move and are threatening to completely boycott digital games.
- Some have even called for a class action lawsuit, as this move is totally unethical.
PlayStation recently found itself wrapped in a big controversy when it introduced a new DRM, which kind of took away the ownership of your digital titles. At first, it was thought to be a system error, but now it has been officially confirmed.
Amid the new DRM, through which digital games will vanish from your library if you don’t log in for 30 days, players are now threatening to boycott digital games. This means that you don’t really own the games that you paid for.
Why it matters: This new DRM doesn’t make sense at all. When you buy a digital game, you are paying for full ownership, and logging in after 30 days or however long shouldn’t matter.
Players are rightfully outraged at this and are calling for a boycott. Some even shared screenshots from E3, where Sony especially highlighted that players won’t require regular check-ins to keep their game license.
Come 2026, the company seems to have forgotten all this. People are also calling for a lawsuit against this move. Furthermore, fans are worried this might affect discs too, since most of them don’t contain much data anymore.

Anyhow, this is a dire situation, and Sony must look into it. People preferred digital for its convenience, but now, with this in mind, things could drastically change. Even Steam claimed that you don’t really own your digital games.
