Marathon Already Among Top 10 Steam Best-Sellers Despite Doubts of Failure

Story Highlight
  • Bungie recently opened pre-orders for Marathon and confirmed a March 5 release date.
  • Since then, the game has shot up to the top 10 Steam best-selling games in a single day.
  • The extraction shooter is going toe-to-toe with many free-to-play titles, alleviating concerns of immediate failure at launch.

Bungie has recently announced a March release date for Marathon, and with this announcement, pre-orders for the game have also been opened. For context, Marathon is priced at $40, making it one of the more expensive live-service games in a market dominated by free-to-play titles.

Because of this price point and Bungie’s dwindling reputation in relation to Destiny 2 recently, many expected the game to underperform at launch. However, Marathon’s current position on the Steam best-sellers list suggests the game will do just fine.

Why it matters: Many were comparing Marathon to Concord only a few months ago, so the Steam best-sellers list has likely been a huge relief for Bungie.

Looking at the current best-sellers, Marathon is doing incredibly well. At the time of writing, the game has managed to make it to the top best-sellers list, competing with hit free-to-play titles like Where Winds Meet.

Excluding other free-to-play titles on the list, Marathon is the 5th best-selling Steam game at the moment. The extraction shooter’s current position suggests that its price point won’t be a problem.

It’s also being said that Bungie’s regional pricing is better than most other studios. Perhaps this has played a role in helping Marathon climb the charts over a month before its official release. As shown above, the game costs less than $30 in our region.

For those still on the fence about Bungie’s upcoming extraction shooter, it’s worth noting that an open playtest is set to take place ahead of the release. Depending on how that playtest goes, pre-orders could shoot up further or see a dramatic decline.

Nonetheless, the game seems set to join the list of already successful Bungie releases for now. Have you pre-ordered the extraction shooter? Let us know in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.

Why Gamers Become Targets of Online Harassment And How To Deal With Cyberbullies

Story Highlight
  • Cyberbullying in games is a serious problem today.
  • Gamers often face harassment due to the anonymous nature of most online experiences.
  • Consulting an adult is the best way to deal with these instances; some players can even consider legal action.

Video games have joined the most popular entertainment mediums in the modern era. Thanks to the popularity of free-to-play titles, affordable consoles, and mobile gaming, this medium has become accessible to practically everyone today.

However, this also means that the negative elements of the industry also show up much more frequently in today’s world. Among others, cyberbullying is a major one, since the anonymity of the digital world has made it easier for bullies to harass others online.

Fortunately, there are a few ways players can deal with bullying and enjoy harassment-free time playing games.

Why it matters: Online communities have grown to millions of players, so it can be difficult to track small instances of bullying, even if they leave a large impact on individual gamers.

Why Gamers Face Online Harassment

toxic gamer

Simply put, the anonymity of the online world makes gamers an easy target for bullies. Players use discreet names and never truly reveal their identities, and although this measure serves to protect them, it also means that bullies use this anonymity to their advantage.

It’s common to see new players in multiplayer games being targeted. Initially, they may feel that this is part of the experience, but when others continue to insult them regardless of whether they feel offended or not, the scenario turns into a case of bullying.

Moreover, some players attempt to gain the trust of an individual at first. Once they gain access to personal information, like a real name and location, they may dox the individual by revealing their personal information with malicious intent.

Also, cybercriminals can target gamers on forums, posting malicious links disguised as helpful ones to install viruses or malware on gamers’ devices.

What To Do When Being Bullied Online

The best thing to do in the case of cyberbullying is to inform a trusted adult or guardian. Moreover, players should block the bully to prevent further harassment, but this should be done after ample evidence is collected regarding the act itself.

Still, criminals can slip through the cracks. There exist many instances of reported incidents of sexual abuse involving Roblox. Similarly, Discord has had more than a few instances of harassment, with several lawsuits also filed against the platform regarding this matter.

This means that legal action is sometimes necessary to put an end to bullying. When victims report the situation to the police, they even have the option to press charges or sue the culprit.

What Game Developers Need To Do

It is often believed that toxic players are impacting gaming as a whole, and this is where developers and communities come in.

Many games already enforce community guidelines, but content moderation could take things one step further. In this instance, monitoring chats and other interactions between players could prevent bullying.

Moreover, the emergence of AI could be used to gaming’s advantage, with algorithms taking on the role of monitoring interactions in real time. Game developers can even work with regulatory bodies for more effective moderation.

Ultimately, the threat of bullying is one that cannot be ignored. Where games are supposed to be enjoyable experiences, they can become a nightmare when bullying goes too far. Fortunately, reporting these instances to the authorities, taking legal action, or contacting the developers can be an effective way to curtail cyberbullying in games.

Marathon March 5 Release Date Officially Revealed As Pre-orders Go Live

Story Highlight
  • Pre-orders for Marathon are now live for $40.
  • The game will be launched on March 5.
  • Bungie has released a pre-order trailer that includes new gameplay and cinematics.

Bungie has revealed the pre-order trailer for Marathon, confirming that their upcoming extraction shooter will be released on March 5. This comes after a leaked pre-order trailer for the game was posted on Reddit earlier.

The user posted the trailer on the Marathon subreddit, and moderators subsequently removed it, but not before it spread everywhere online. The user explained that they saw the trailer on the Xbox store.

Why it matters: Marathon is a highly anticipated upcoming AAA title being published by PlayStation and developed by Bungie; however, it has been the subject of numerous controversies. Marathon faced overwhelming negative fan reception and allegations of stolen art, leading to the game’s delay.

Bungie’s latest blog post for Marathon reveals new details regarding the game, like its voice cast. The cast features popular names like Ben Starr and Jennifer English (both of whom were part of 2024’s Game of the Year, Expedition 33).

Bungie’s decision to create Marathon as an extraction shooter was widely regarded as a mistake, given the genre’s image as a punishing, hardcore experience. However, the massive success of Arc Raiders has proven that well-made games in the category can break into the mainstream.

Along with the standard and deluxe editions, Bungie has also revealed a beautiful collector’s edition.

Marathon Collector's Edition

Preorders for Marathon are live on PlayStation 5, Steam, and Xbox Series X|S, with the standard edition costing $40.

CDPR Expands Aggressively With Nearly 100 Openings Across Witcher, Cyberpunk 2, and Project Hadar

Story Highlight
  • CDPR has nearly 100 openings across titles like Witcher games, Cyberpunk 2, and Project Hadar.
  • All of the studio’s projects are now reaching late stages of development, requiring more manpower.
  • Employee count is likely around 1000 for CDPR now.

CD Projekt Red continues to strengthen its pool in preparation for its upcoming slate of several ambitious AAA titles. Now in the late stages of development for these projects, the studio is moving at breakneck speed, going on a massive hiring spree to complete these titles.

In fact, CDPR now has openings for around 100 jobs across projects like Witcher games, Cyberpunk 2, and Project Hadar.

Why it matters: The gaming industry is in its most unstable state ever, with layoffs across all major studios under giants like Xbox, PlayStation, EA, and Ubisoft. In the current scenario, seeing CDPR go in the opposite direction solidifies the studio’s position as a leader in the gaming space.

Pawel Sasko, Associate Game Director of Cyberpunk 2, shared a link to openings at CDPR, stating that there are jobs across all of the studio’s upcoming projects, including Witcher 4, Project Sirius, Project Hadar, and, of course, Cyberpunk 2.

Witcher 4 is the studio’s next title and will kick off a new trilogy, with Ciri being the series’ next protagonist. The game is expected to launch in the latter half of 2027.

Project Sirius is the spin-off multiplayer Witcher project, initially led by The Molasses Flood, which was absorbed by CDPR last year and is expected to be released after Witcher 4.

As for Project Hadar, it is a new original IP by CDPR and was first uncovered by Tech4Gamers through a job listing. From what we know so far, it’s an action RPG that involves melee combat and is still in its early stages of development.

Lastly, Cyberpunk 2 is scheduled for 2030, the same year Cyberpunk 2077 has its 10th anniversary. The Cyberpunk sequel has a lot of talented talent under its helm, including a writer from Bioshock and a gameplay programmer from Insomniac Games.

As of mid-2025, CDPR consisted of 730 employees. The latter half of last year also saw a bunch of new faces at the studio, and by the time the current positions are filled, the employee count will likely rise to around 1000.

Former Anthem Producer Claims Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s Failure Has Delayed Mass Effect 5

Story Highlight
  • Mass Effect 5 could be several years away due to the failure of Dragon Age: Veilguard.
  • Mike Darrah says BioWare is now a one-project studio, which is a positive change.
  • It will help them put full focus on Mass Effect 5, but it’s still a long way to go.

BioWare was once a name synonymous with great quality titles led by the Dragon Age and Mass Effect franchises. Years later, the studio has fallen from grace with its recent titles like Anthem and Dragon Age: The Veilguard failing miserably.

A former Anthem producer has weighed in on the current situation of the studio and says that Veilguard’s failure has delayed Mass Effect 5. The studio is currently going through a tough phase, so it isn’t coming out soon.

Why it matters: Both Veilguard and Anthem had huge expectations riding on them, but both failed to hit the mark, which led to layoffs and even led to the looming threat that BioWare might be shut down for good.

Anthem was officially released in 2019, and the initial trailer promised a lot. The end product was a bland game with just good flight mechanics. Dragon Age: The Veilguard was in development for years, but still failed

Mass Effect 5 is going to be a long time after Dragon Age: The Veilguard, but BioWare has become a one-project studio, which is a positive sign.

– Mike Darrah

Veilguard was a huge failure for BioWare

These things have caused issues at BioWare that they just can’t seem to get out of. The team has now become a “one-project studio” at a time, which Mike Darrah believes is a positive sign and could help them with Mass Effect.

However, based on recent years, Darrah says that Mass Effect 5 is many years away after Dragon Age: The Veilguard. He says BioWare used to focus on many projects at a time, which led to a drop in quality, and that is different now.

NPCs in GTA 6 Will Call the Police and Defend Their Homes Against Trespassers

Story Highlight
  • GTA 6 NPCs will call the police and defend their homes if the player tries to trespass.
  • They will react naturally to every situation, as Rockstar massively upgraded NPC behavior.
  • The NPCs are expected to have daily routines, and cops will track players more intelligently.

GTA 6 is arguably shaping up to be the most advanced game, both in terms of visuals and technical mechanics that set it apart from other AAA projects. This belief is certainly not unfounded, as Rockstar is said to have allocated a staggering $2 billion budget for the game.

Many past leaks have suggested that NPCs in GTA 6 will be the best we’ve ever seen. A popular rumor is now going viral that claims NPCs will call the police if the player trespasses into their homes.

Why it matters: NPCs in GTA 6 will be quite lifelike and deal with every situation naturally, which will prove to be arguably the biggest upgrade compared to the past titles.

GTA 6 NPCs will try to arrest the player upon trespassing into their homes.

The leak allegedly comes from a source who got in direct contact with a GTA 6 developer. It was featured in a Reddit compilation post that includes reliable insiders and other credible leaks.

Since reportedly about 70% of the buildings will be enterable in the game, many of those are expected to be the homes of NPCs.

NPCs will allegedly attempt to fight and tackle you until cops arrive if you trespass onto their properties. Also, expect to face resistance if you commit other crimes in front of them.

Additionally, NPCs are rumored to have proper routines and unique personalities, with advanced AI for realistic route planning.

GTA 6
GTA 6 will feature some of the most realistic NPCs we’ve ever seen in gaming.

Leaks have also suggested that cops will track the player intelligently. They will allegedly seal off crime scenes and do proper investigations, and there will be up to 6-star wanted levels this time around.

Other leaks have claimed that GTA 6 will feature a relationship system similar to Red Dead Redemption 2’s honor mechanics. The game will even let you play with both protagonists at the same time.

Do you think the NPCs will be as advanced as the rumors have claimed so far? Are you looking forward to how they react to every situation? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

GTA 6 To Feature Relationship System Similar To Red Dead Redemption 2’s Honor

Story Highlight
  • Reliable leaks suggest GTA 6 will feature a relationship system similar to Red Dead Redemption 2’s honor mechanic.
  • This system could be used for NPC interactions and consequences in the game.
  • It may also lead to an interesting dynamic between Jason and Lucia, depending on certain choices.

Take-Two and Rockstar have not shied away from highlighting GTA 6’s many qualities. In addition to being a genre-defining title, the game is expected to feature new water physics, interactable buildings, ray-tracing support, and a lot more.

Past leaks have also discussed various other features, and with recent information validating multiple past leaks, it seems likely that GTA 6 will feature a relationship system.

Why it matters: This relationship system might be one of the many mechanics that add additional depth to the world and systems of GTA 6.

GTA 6 Will Feature A Living Open-World

According to leaks compiled on Reddit, GTA 6 will feature a mechanic similar to Red Dead Redemption 2’s honor system. Note that this list features leaks from insiders who have proven reliable in the past.

For the unaware, the game allowed Arthur to greet or antagonize NPCs in the game, while also making choices that impacted how he was perceived by the characters in the world.

Depending on how the game was played, Arthur would be treated differently by those around him, and this system even impacted the ending of the game. As for GTA 6, there’s no telling how this system will be evolved for Rockstar’s latest game.

Beyond hostile and amicable relations with NPCs and core characters, this mechanic could impact core scenes between Lucia and Jason, potentially creating moments of tension and relief within the story, depending on certain choices.

GTA 6 Anticipation Is Through The Roof

Of course, since Rockstar is expected to push the boundaries with GTA 6, fans wish to see a more in-depth implementation of the system beyond superficial details. Rockstar Games already delved into choices with GTA 5, so perhaps a potential relationship system could lead to more subtle branching narratives in GTA 6.

GTA 6 Will Let Players Control Dual Protagonists Simultaneously in the Open World

Story Highlight
  • Some new leaks have emerged, revealing in-depth details about GTA 6.
  • The game reportedly features a dual-protagonist control system, along with solo modes.
  • It will let you control both protagonists simultaneously in missions and the open-world.

We are finally in the year of GTA 6 with no more delays expected as of yet. The title is set to be the biggest thing in gaming in decades, with projected revenues of billions of Dollars. As the release draws nearer, new information has emerged.

We all know that GTA 6 will feature dual protagonists: Lucia and Jason. However, new information suggests we’ll have a new mode in the game that will allow dual protagonists to be controlled simultaneously.

Why it matters: Rockstar’s blockbuster title aims to take the franchise to new highs, presenting its best and most ambitious version to date by integrating new and more refined gameplay elements.

GTA 6 Dual Protagonists
GTA 6 will feature a new dual protagonist control system

The new leaks reveal a bunch of new gameplay details from GTA 6. The players will have three gameplay options: Solo Jason, solo Lucia, and the above-mentioned dual protagonist control, where you can play as both at the same time.

Certain missions are especially designed to integrate this new gameplay mechanic. However, it isn’t only restricted to missions, but you can use it to navigate through the open-world as well.

GTA 6
You’ll be able to control both Jason and Lucia at the same time

This will present a new perspective to the gameplay, making the title even more dynamic and fresh. These new leaks also delve into the game’s characters, story, setting, and more, and are reportedly quite credible.

All in all, if that wasn’t already solidified, GTA 6 is going to be grand. Rockstar recently was also kind enough to give a terminally ill fan early access to the title, so we know it’s certainly almost in its final form ahead of the November release.

OpenAI Heading Toward Bankruptcy Amid Announcement of New Ads, Says Analyst

Story Highlight
  • An economist predicts OpenAI will run out of cash within the next 18 months.
  • He argues that the company has made too many commitments without having avenues to generate revenue.
  • In contrast, tech giants like Google and Microsoft are reportedly more likely to be able to absorb losses from initial investments in the AI business.

As the AI boom continues and companies move toward investing in data centers and other AI-based infrastructure, OpenAI remains one of the leaders in the industry.

At the same time, the company seems to be admitting defeat after recently confirming the addition of advertisements to the service. Following this announcement, an analyst believes OpenAI will run out of money in the next two years.

Why it matters: OpenAI can be considered the pioneer of modern generative AI implementations, thanks to its work on ChatGPT, which has become the benchmark for other tech giants.

Sam Altman of OpenAI
Sam Altman Previously Spoke of Ads As A Last Resort For OpenAI

Sebastian Mallaby, an economist at the Council on Foreign Relations, believes that OpenAI has committed to far too many spendings for its own good. In a new story published on the NYTimes, he predicted that the company would run out of cash over the next 18 months.

Mallaby pointed out that the AI giant has already committed to spending over $1 trillion before 2030, an amount it may never be able to raise. It also lost $8 billion in 2025, and this sum is expected to go up to $40 billion by 2028.

According to the economist, the math does not add up for OpenAI. He argues that the initial losses in the AI industry could still be absorbed by a giant like Google or Microsoft due to already present revenue streams and profitable businesses at these companies.

OpenAI, on the other hand, has no way to make up for its current and past losses. Therefore, 2026 is expected to be a make-or-break year for the company regardless of what the future holds.

Even if OpenAI reneges on many of those promises and pays for others with its shares, the company must still find daunting sums of capital. However rich the eventual AI prize, the capital markets seem unlikely to deliver.

-Sebastian Mallaby

The analyst also noted that most users seem unwilling to pay for ChatGPT. In the event that a paid model is enforced upon consumers as a form of revenue generation for OpenAI, they are likely to simply switch to other free alternatives.

Previously, the OpenAI founder noted that ads would serve as the last resort for the company. With ChatGPT officially set to begin incorporating ads into the service, it seems the situation could change for the worse in the coming months.

50% of Oblivion Remastered Players Quit In Just 15 Hours Or Less

Story Highlight
  • The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered reportedly sold 1.1 million units on PS5.
  • It is said that only half of the 1.1 million+ players spent over 15 hours on the RPG.
  • Analysts believe Starfield will perform better when it arrives on the console.

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered launched last year and quickly became one of Xbox’s more impressive third-party offerings on PS5.

Selling over 1 million copies on Sony’s console alone, Oblivion Remastered established a name for itself across all its platforms. However, a report suggests that only half of the players played the game through completion.

Why it matters: The Elder Scrolls is famous for giving players hundreds of hours’ worth of content, so this figure comes as a surprise.

Elder Scrolls Oblivion Remastered
Oblivion Remastered Was Shadow-Dropped Last Year

According to Rhys Elliott from Alinea Analytics, Oblivion Remastered did not see the best player retention on PS5. Around 50% of all gamers played the game for 15 hours or less, a surprising figure for a series lauded for its extensive replayability.

The analyst believes most people left the game after enjoying a nostalgic trip to Cyrodiil. One reason for the surprising player retention may be the lack of mods on consoles since modding has always been a major part of the Bethesda RPG experience.

Nonetheless, this report comes as a surprise, given the legacy of The Elder Scrolls on PlayStation. In particular, The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim left a major impact on PlayStation gamers, so Oblivion Remastered was expected to be a similarly massive hit.

starfield ps5
Starfield Is Not Out For For PS5 Yet

Rhys Elliott also believes Starfield will perform better than The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered on PS5 once it eventually arrives on the platform. Although the game has not been announced for Sony’s platform yet, rumor has it that the RPG will join the PS5’s library at some point this year.

Data Centers Will Eat Up 70% Of Memory Chips Made This Year

Story Highlight
  • Data centers are expected to eat up 70% of memory chips produced this year.
  • The shortage will last for years, leading to higher component prices and reduced availability.
  • The manufacturing capacity for next year is already being sold out.

There’s been nothing but bad news for the PC and overall gaming industry since DRAM and NAND memory prices shot through the roof in mid-2025. Unfortunately, this year is looking to be even worse, and the next few also won’t be any better.

A new report reveals that hyperscaler data centers will consume a staggering 70% of memory chips produced globally in 2026. This leaves little room for the rest of the industries, including the automotive sector, TVs, and electronics, let alone the gaming scene.

Why it matters: Insane price hikes are threatening nearly every industry that consumes memory. Manufacturers won’t soon be able to absorb costs and will be forced to pass them on to customers.

Rising Memory Prices
Rising memory prices are affecting SSDs, HDDs, RAM, and consoles.

The Wall Street Journal report quotes the respected Counterpoint Research’s MS Hwang, who says the only way to stand a chance at survival is to grab a plane ticket and get that memory allocation from manufacturers as soon as possible.

The US tech giants are doing exactly this—being labeled ‘DRAM Beggars’ by the analysts in the process. Many teams are competing to get as many memory contracts as possible, regardless of pricing, from South Korea’s Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron.

The memory manufacturers are also scaling up production, but it is not enough to meet the industry’s demand.

The analyst further says that manufacturing capacity for 2027 is already being booked after slots filled up for this year. Thus, the value of memory has shot up to the point that Huang argues RAM will account for 10% of the cost of most electronics.

RAM is being most severely impacted by the ongoing crisis.
RAM is being most severely impacted by the ongoing crisis.

Server DRAM prices have already grown by 50%. For smartphones specifically, RAM may reach 30% of the bill of materials. IDC also predicts a 5% dip in smartphone sales and a 9% decline in PC sales this year—other analysts have also forecasted similar outcomes.

Do you think the situation will continue devolving for gamers for the foreseeable future? Is there no solution to this apocalypse? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

PC Market Share to Drop 7–9% in 2026 as Nvidia–Intel Collaboration Focuses on AI, Not Gaming

Story Highlight
  • The Intel-Nvidia partnership, previously thought to be focused on gaming, turns out to be for AI servers.
  • The shift to x86 solutions for AI is expected to diminish ARM.
  • As such, analysts expect a mid-to-high single-digit decline for PC market share in 2026.

While it was already expected that the gaming industry would experience a steep decline this year due to rising memory costs that will take a massive hit on hardware sales, things are now looking to be worse than expected for PC gaming in particular.

The previous Nvidia-Intel partnership has now been revealed as an alliance focused on AI servers rather than gaming. To top it off, the analyst also expects a steep 7-9% decline in the PC market share going into 2026.

Why it matters: The AI focus has left the PC gaming market to be neglected, and manufacturers are now losing interest and shifting their focus away from making hardware for gamers. It’s truly disappointing to see the current state of the industry.

Full Nerd Network on YouTube recently interviewed Dr. Ian Cutress, a technology industry analyst from TechSpot, and, of course, asked him for his thoughts and expectations for the industry in the coming months.

Dr. Ian didn’t have much to be optimistic about, as he expected a “mid-to-high single-digit decrease” in PC market share in 2026. Obviously, the main reason for this decline is a shortage of memory, which, in turn, has raised prices for nearly all PC components.

However, the most interesting part of this conversation was Dr. Ian’s realization that the Nvidia-Intel alliance (Nvidia invested $5 billion in Intel), previously thought to be a gaming collaboration, is now focused on AI servers.

RTX 50 Series Nvidia
Nvidia Has Reportedly Discontinued High-End RTX 50-Series Cards

Regarding the reasons behind their thoughts, the analyst further explained that the AI market has greater potential than the PC gaming market. However, he still didn’t rule out the possibility of a gaming collaboration later down the line.

Customers also want x86 solutions, and by pursuing that, Intel and Nvidia will focus on that segment and take market share from ARM. So instead of AMD, ARM might be in trouble.
