Horizon 3 Is Still A Long-Time Away As Guerrilla Is Focused On The Multiplayer Game, Reveals Insider

Story Highlight
  • Horizon 3 is still a long way out, according to insider Jason Schreier.
  • Guerrilla Games is fully focused on multiplayer title Horizon Hunters Gathering right now, which has pushed the project’s release date further.
  • Hence, PlayStation’s live-service strategy has once again come back to haunt its single-player games this generation.

PlayStation has gotten a fair share of slack for putting extensive focus on its live-service games lineup instead of its flagship narrative adventures this generation. Despite its misguided strategy leading to failures like Concord, the company is still set to launch more live-service titles this year than single-player adventures

One of these multiplayer games is Horizon Hunters Gathering, developed by Guerrilla and set in the same universe as the Horizon series. As it turns out, the studio’s work on the live-service title means that fans will have to wait for Horizon 3 even longer now.

Why It Matters: More than 50% of PlayStation’s live service products in the past few years have ended up failing. However, the company still proceeds to put emphasis on multiplayer games instead of creating a new single-player title for a franchise with over 40 million sales.

According to insider Jason Schreier, Horizon 3 is still a long way off from launch, as Guerrilla is now focusing on Horizon Hunters Gathering.

While replying to a question on BlueSky, the insider confirmed that the studio is currently working on the sequel, but fans will have to wait a long time for Horizon 3.

Considering how the single-player title was first teased back in 2023, having to wait several years more for the third mainline entry is an indictment of Sony’s insistence on live-service titles.

Horizon Hunters Gathering
Guerrilla has called Horizon Hunters Gathering one of its dream projects.

Previous leaks suggested that Horizon 3 would launch in 2027, right after the multiplayer title came out. However, according to Jason Schreier, that doesn’t seem like the case, as Guerrilla is hard at work on one of its “long-standing” dreams, Horizon Hunters Gathering.

Do you think PlayStation single-player games have suffered from Sony’s emphasis on multiplayer titles? Will Horizon 3 launch in the next two years or so? Tell us in the comments below or head to the Tech4Gamers forum for discussion.

Resident Evil Requiem Will Be Almost Double The Length Of Resident Evil 8

Story Highlight
  • Game producer confirms that Resident Evil Requiem will be around 17-18 hours long.
  • The playtime will be the same as Resident Evil 4 Remake, with similar chapters.
  • The title will equally divide the playtime between Leon and Grace’s segments.

Resident Evil Requiem is just around the corner and is already slated to be a hit. It has become one of the most wishlisted games on Steam, and Capcom also revealed that pre-orders have exceeded expectations.

One big problem with the last couple of Resident Evil games has been the length of the overall story. Requiem will fix that and will be almost double the length of Resident Evil 8, with the story spanning around 17-18 hours.

Why it matters: Both Resident Evil 7 and 8 were criticized for being too short, at just around 10 hours or less. While the titles were great, the story length didn’t justify the full price tag.

Requiem Length
Requiem will almost be the same length as RE4 Remake

In a recent interview, producer Masato Kumazawa confirmed that Resident Evil Requiem will be the same length as Resident Evil 4 Remake. The latter, for context, takes about 17-18 hours to beat the full campaign.

Both the recent mainline entries were fairly short, so this new development will delight the fans. The game will be divided into chapters, and the length and content of the chapters will also be similar to Resident Evil 4 Remake.

Resident Evil Requiem Leon Kennedy
The game will equally divide the playtime between the two protagonists

We already know from previous reports that the game will be split 50/50 between Leon and Grace, so both will have equal playtime. The game presents two aspects: complete action with Leon, and horror with Grace.

Anyhow, this means that for players who like to get 100%, it’ll take at least over 20 hours, which is a decent length for a AAA title. Fans are also hoping the side-quests are as fun as the remake, too.

What are your thoughts on Resident Evil Requiem being double the length of Resident Evil 8? Let us know your opinions in the comments or join the discussion at the official Tech4Gamers Forum

Ubisoft Has Cancelled At Least 25 Games In The Last 8 Years

Story Highlight
  • A new compilation shows that Ubisoft cancelled at least 25 games in the last 8 years.
  • The list includes multiple Assassin’s Creed titles, live-service attempts, and more.
  • Multiple unannounced games and new IPs were also canned midway through development.

Ubisoft went through a devastating restructuring in early 2026 to streamline its teams into various creative houses. Each of these houses is responsible for certain popular franchises that are expected to make the most money and appeal to fans.

The publisher was previously involved with a lot more franchises, developing many games in different genres across its studios worldwide. Unfortunately, dozens of them have been either shelved, rebooted, or cancelled entirely over the years.

Why it matters: Ubisoft has cancelled many games mid-development for one reason or another, after spending a lot of budget on them. Many of the publisher’s live-service attempts also never materialized.

Ubisoft Live Service Games
Ubisoft is now focused on open-world and live-service initiatives.

According to redditor KekanKok, the following 25 major games have been cancelled since 2018, per official reports, credible rumors by insiders, and industry leaks:

  • 2026
  •  2025
    • Star Wars Outlaws 2
    • Project Maverick (original version): A Far Cry extraction-based spin-off, it was initially meant to be a multiplayer mode of Far Cry 7. Development was rebooted in early 2025, and Ubisoft is still figuring it out.
  • 2024
  • 2023
    • Project Oxygen (Immortals Fenyx Rising 2)
    • Project Q: A stylized 3rd-person PVPVE game made using Unreal Engine 5.
    • Project Renaissance: A Minecraft-type voxel game where you could create different worlds. Turned into Project Alterra, an Animal Crossing-inspired social sim game.
  • 2022
  • 2021
    • The Story of Rayman/Rayman Forever: A remake of the original Rayman
    • Project Reaper (original version of The Division: Heartland): A battle royale that was cancelled after poor player feedback.
  • 2019
    • Project Pioneer: A sci-fi project with non-violent exploration. It was apparently rebooted into a co-op multiplayer alien shooter.
    • Project Avalon: A medieval fantasy RPG, which was loosely based on King Arthur.
    • Prince of Persia 2: The Shadow and the Flame sequel
  • 2018
    • Project Falcon (original version of XDefiant): It was a monster-hunting game that got reworked into the now-shelved XDefiant
    • Project Ion: Another sci-fi title, but not much is known about it
Ubisoft franchises
The company is now only focused on some of its IPs.

Surprisingly, the nearly two-decade old Beyond Good and Evil 2 and the next Ghost Recon game have survived Ubisoft’s recent purges and remain in development.

Do you think some of these cancelled Ubisoft games would have been a success, or was it the wise decision to shelve all the projects indefinitely? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Embark Is Developing Two New Games Thanks To Arc Raiders’ Success

Story Highlight
  • Embark CEO confirms that the studio is already working on two new games.
  • Arc Raiders’ success will enable Embark to thrive for a long time, providing financial stability.
  • The studio can expand and hire more talent because of the immense profits.

It’s already become clear that Arc Raiders has been an astounding success. The innovative shooter has proven to be a strong competitor against established series like Battlefield and Call of Duty. However, it has done much more for Embark than the numbers suggested.

The studio CEO claims that Embark is already cooking up two new games thanks to the money generated by Arc Raiders so far.

Why it matters: Arc Raiders’ success is allowing Embark to expand and focus on new projects amid an industry that is otherwise struggling with layoffs and studio closures. Therefore, we may see more ambitious games from the developers in the future.

Arc Raiders
Arc Raiders is dominating the live-service genre.

In an interview with IGN, Embark CEO Patrick Soderlund explains that the studio is expanding and hiring more talent to focus on The Finals and Arc Raiders in the future. Additionally, more projects can continue development because of the latter’s success.

For those not in the know, Arc Raiders continues to see about 300K players on Steam three months after launch. In comparison, Battlefield 6 has lost 80% of its players, while Highguard’s player base collapsed after just two days.

We’re growing our studio, we’re hiring people, we want to build more of ARC Raiders, we want to build more of The Finals. We also have two new games in development that we hope to finish someday.

-Patrick Soderlund, Embark CEO.

Patrick confirms that Embark will ‘live for a long time on the money that Arc Raiders has been generating,’ which is allowing the studio to grow instead of having to worry about shedding talent.

Arc Raiders
The game features compelling and satisfying PvPvE gameplay.

An analyst revealed that Arc Raiders supposedly consumed about a $75 million budget, which the CEO also confirms is quite close to the real number.

Additionally, Embark is also focused on offering competitive salaries and generous bonuses to the developers who made it possible for Arc Raiders to achieve such success.

Do you think Embark will work on more multiplayer live-service entries or single-player games instead? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

RE4 Remake Review Bombed As New DRM Kills PC Performance By Up To 50%

Story Highlight
  • Capcom has recently changed Denuvo DRM to Enigma DRM for Resident Evil 4 Remake.
  • Reports suggest the game runs up to 50% worse on PC following this update and consumes more VRAM.
  • Many gamers have begun leaving negative reviews for the title on Steam following this update.

Resident Evil 4 Remake received a sudden update recently, which replaced Denuvo with a new DRM on PC. For all its downsides, it seems Denuvo was not as bad as many made it out to be, since the new DRM appears to have negatively impacted Capcom’s latest Resident Evil remake.

According to reports, Resident Evil 4 Remake now runs worse on PC. The game is even being review-bombed on Steam due to the performance impacts.

Why it matters: Like most other Capcom titles, Resident Evil 4 Remake generally ran well on PC. As such, fans have been greatly disappointed by the recent impact on the performance.

Capcom’s fan-favorite remake now makes use of Enigma DRM instead of Denuvo. According to a video posted by ItalicMaze, the game now runs at half the frame rate on his Ryzen 5 5600 and RX 7600 PC.

This may be the worst-case scenario in this instance, but other reports show similar impacts, with performance on the Steam Deck also being worsened by 20-30% at any given moment.

Also, gamers on Reddit state that the title now uses more VRAM on PC. In the aftermath, the remake is being review bombed on Steam. Filtering by recent reviews shows that most of the recent reviews are negative, citing issues with the DRM.

Don’t buy this until they remove the performance-breaking DRM.

It remains to be seen whether Capcom will respond to the negativity surrounding Resident Evil 4 Remake following this update. The team’s sudden decision to change the remake’s DRM was strange to begin with, considering it typically removes Denuvo completely from older titles.

Have you tested the remake after the implementation of Enigma DRM? Let’s discuss in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.

MSI Afterburner Adding Support For Automatic Protection For 12V-2×6 GPU Connectors Amid Burning Issues

Story Highlight
  • The 12V-2×6 GPU connectors burning is one of the biggest issues for top-tier GPUs.
  • MSI Afterburner will add a Safeguard+ mode to warn users in case of high temperatures.
  • However, the feature will only work with new and select MSI power supplies.

The 16-pin power connector, namely 12V-2×6, is notorious for causing burning issues. Since its introduction, we’ve had hundreds of cases of burning connectors, which recur on both AMD and Nvidia top-end GPUs.

However, MSI Afterburner could soon help with that, as it will add an automatic protection feature for the 12V-2×6 GPU connector for the RTX 50 and Radeon 9000 series. However, you’ll need a new MSI PSU for that.

Why it matters: With the RTX 5080 and 5090 costing a fortune these days, this could help you keep your connector temperature in check, which is one of the primary reasons burning occurs.

Afterburner Update
MSI Afterburner will add a new Safeguard+ Feature for 16-Pin Connector GPUs

The MSI Afterburner developer, Unwinder, has shared details about the new beta program for the software that will add a GPU Safeuard+ feature. The feature will receive an alarm system from the connector in case of a mishap.

When it detects a higher temperature, a sound signal will be played. The GPU will be put into an emergency low power mode that will reduce the consumption of Nvidia GPUs by 75%, and AMD by 25%.

The 16-pin connector is notorious for burning issues

The feature will be intuitive for both beginners and pros. For starters, beginners will just be able to toggle the “GPU Safeguard+” feature on and off, while experts can customize it to the way they want it.

The only catch here is that you’ll need one of the newer MSI PSUs revealed at CES. However, they do make a good choice because you need a top-tier PSU anyway. Nonetheless, let’s hope the compatibility increases in the future.

Naughty Dog Job Listing Hints at Unannounced Multiplatform Game With Multiplayer Experience

Story Highlight
  • Tech4Gamers has come across a job listing from Naughty Dog that appears to be hiring for a multiplatform multiplayer release.
  • Neil Druckmann had previously confirmed they were working on another project in addition to Intergalactic.
  • The studio had previously worked on a multiplayer Last of Us title before they eventually axed it.

Naughty Dog, one of the oldest SIE studios, is also its most prized, credited with creating some of the best video game IPs, including Uncharted, The Last of Us, Crash Bandicoot, and Jak and Daxter.

Now, the studio is fully engaged in developing its next IP, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, an action-adventure sci-fi game.

Aside from the single-player project, Naught Dog appears to be working on a second project, a multiplatform multiplayer release, according to a new job listing found by Tech4Gamers.

Why it matters: Naughty Dog’s past multiplayer experiences were surprisingly enjoyable for a single-player-focused team. Fans have also wanted to see the studio try its hand at multiplayer again for a while.

The job posting titled ‘Senior Sound Designer (Contingent)’ seeks to hire a developer for crafting in-game sound effects. While the job responsibilities and skills are mostly technical, the Bonus Skills section provides some insight into the project.

Experience with multiplayer games is a plus for Naughty Dog, as is experience implementing audio across multiple platforms, strongly suggesting it will be a multiplatform multiplayer release.

The ‘multiple platform’ point effectively rules out the aforementioned job posting being for Intergalactic, since the single-player release will be a PlayStation exclusive.

It is also worth noting that Neil Druckmann previously confirmed that they were working on another project in addition to Intergalactic, so this job posting could be for that second game.

Naughty Dog Reportedly Cancelled Game That Caused It To Abandon The Last of Us Multiplayer

It is unknown what this title could be, and it likely will not be released anytime soon. Currently, Naughty Dog is fast-tracking development for Intergalactic, which is reportedly scheduled for a mid 2027 release.

At one point, the studio worked on a standalone multiplayer Last of Us project, but it was unfortunately shelved. There is a possibility that Naughty Dog could be reviving the project.

Anyhow, we don’t exclude the possibility that Naughty Dog could be providing support to another studio, but it’s unlikely they’ll do so for a multiplayer project and at a time when Intergalactic is approaching its final stages of development.

What are your thoughts on this project? What do you think Naughty Dog is working on? Let us know in the comments below, or at the official Tech4Gamers Forums.

Sony Plans Heavy AI Use in Game Production, Calls It a Tool And Not a Threat

Story Highlight
  • Sony says it wants to use “a lot of AI” going forward for its game production.
  • The company views it as a tool, not a threat.
  • They want to make it a commercial product and not a focal business point.

Use of generative AI in game development is the future, whether we like it or not. While some studios remain wary of it, others have shown strong enthusiasm for integrating it into development, and Sony could do the same.

Sony plans to use heavy AI in game production going forward. The CFO says that it is just a tool, and not a threat. It can help speed up tasks, but it cannot replace entire development teams or become a business.

Why it matters: Generative AI can indeed accelerate game development by doing tasks that normally take a lot of time manually, but handcrafted assets and other intricate core elements will always be superior.

Sony PlayStation
Sony wants to use a lot of AI for game production

During their recent Investor Call, Sony CFO Lin Tao expressed support for the use of AI in game production. She says it’s just another tool in the toolbox, and not something their studios should be scared of

What we can say right now is to use a lot of AI (in game production). I don’t think it’s a threat, and the creators can use AI in a fast way.

– Lin Tao

79% Game Devs Support AI
The company sees it as a tool rather than a threat.

They will use AI extensively in production, but that doesn’t mean it’ll replace developers or become a focal point of the business. In fact, they’ll keep it in check and integrate it into development to help the developers.

The topic of gen AI in games has become rather sensitive. Some fans and developers strongly oppose it, while others don’t mind it. Nonetheless, its tasteful use can help, and it is directed as the future of game development.

Bethesda Is “Having Problems” Bringing Starfield To Switch 2 And Cancellation Is Possible, Its Claimed

Story Highlight
  • Starfield’s Switch 2 version could be dead as Bethesda is having trouble porting to the console.
  • According to a popular insider, the port has been “pushed out” and may not be released.
  • Take-Two also recently cancelled the Borderlands 4 port for Nintendo Switch 2 due to technical difficulties.

The Nintendo Switch 2 has received tremendous third-party support so far, with titles like Cyberpunk 2077 running perfectly on the platform. Even new AAA games like Resident Evil Requiem are set to launch day-and-date on the platform alongside other consoles.

However, it’s no secret that some developers have had trouble optimising for the Switch 2, with the Final Fantasy 7 Remake director also pointing out the challenges studios face. As it turns out, Bethesda is one of the developers affected by the console issue, and Starfield may bear the brunt of it.

Why It Matters: Starfield could have used the RPG audience of the Switch 2 to get a boost in sales, but it seems like Bethesda is unable to find a way to port the title so far.

Nintendo Switch 2
Source: ResetEra

According to insider Shinobi602 on ResetEra, Starfield’s Nintendo Switch 2 version might be cancelled due to Bethesda’s difficulties porting the RPG. While replying to a post announcing Starfield for the PS5, the leaker stated that the Nintendo Switch 2 port has been “pushed out” and might not release at all

Just yesterday, Bethesda revealed that titles like Fallout 4 and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will launch on the Nintendo console. Hence, the developer’s struggle with Starfield could be due to the game’s massive scale.

This isn’t the first instance of a veteran studio struggling with the Switch 2 either. Borderlands 4 was also set to launch on the platform, but after a delay due to performance issues, Take-Two has halted production on the port.

Starfield
Starfield is an outlier, as other Bethesda games are heading to Switch 2.

Furthermore, Shinobi602 is a renowned insider, particularly regarding major AAA titles, and he successfully leaked the Norse setting for the God of War reboot and revealed the pricing issue Valve is facing with the Steam Machine. Hence, from the looks of it, Starfield’s Switch 2 version is in jeopardy.

Do you think Bethesda will figure out how to port Starfield to the Nintendo Switch 2, or is the much-awaited port bound to die? Tell us in the comments below or head to the Tech4Gamers forum for discussion.

2 Assassin’s Creed Titles at Ubisoft Annecy Cancelled, Separate from Project Invictus

Story Highlight
  • 2 multiplayer Assassin’s Creed games have been cancelled under Ubisoft Annecy in the last few years.
  • The most recent cancellation was codenamed ‘League’, meant to be a DLC for Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, but was later made into a standalone game.
  • It was cancelled by Vantage Studios but expected to be revived as a DLC for future Assassin’s Creed games.

Late last month, Ubisoft announced a strategic reset that involved 2 studio closures and 6 project cancellations that included the Sands of Time remake, and now a new Assassin’s Creed multiplayer project, as per a new report.

Codenamed Assassin’s Creed League, the game was initially planned as a DLC for Shadows, but later became a standalone title.

Why it matters: Ubisoft has been cancelling far too many projects, which is why they’ve lost more than 90% of their stock value, ultimately losing billions of dollars.

assassins creed invictus
Assassin’s Creed Invictus Is Still Under Development But Things Aren’t Exactly Going Smooth

According to Origami, which spoke with nearly a dozen employees at the French publisher, Ubisoft Annecy was developing a codenamed project called League before it was axed after the formation of Vantage Studios, the subsidiary formed by Ubisoft alongside Tencent.

Ubisoft Annecy was the support studio that had previously worked to develop the multiplayer modes for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag, Unity, Brotherhood, and Splinter Cell. Recently, the studio had been working to revive the multiplayer aspect of the franchise.

It is also notable to mention that this work would’ve been done to create a technical foundation for multiplayer elements in future Assassin’s Creed games.

Initially, they began work on project Echoes in 2022, a multiplayer Assassin’s Creed game with ‘massive online ambitions’ but was later scrapped. Then they moved on to another project with Ubisoft Bordeaux, still a concept featuring multiple players, but it was canceled again.

More recently, they started working on Assassin’s Creed Shadows, developing a 4-player multiplayer game mode, which was deemed too expensive for DLC and was therefore converted into a standalone small project.

Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag Remake
Black Flag Remake Has Also Been Delayed

Unfortunately, the recent Ubisoft strategic reset gutted the project after top management from Vantage Studios had playtested the game. This was shortly before live testing of the game planned for May 2026.

Even though Assassin’s Creed League is cancelled, Ubisoft Annecy’s work is still not entirely wasted. Vantage Studios still wants to carry their work forward and has created a small team to further refine the idea so it can be used as a co-op mode in a future Assassin’s Creed game.

What are your thoughts on this cancellation? Let us know in the comments below, or at the official Tech4Gamers Forums.

Sony’s First-Party Titles Published on PC and Xbox Have Brought in At Least $2.3 Billion

Story Highlight
  • Sony’s multiplatform pursuit has proven to be really successful for them.
  • They’ve made at least $2.3 billion by releasing games on Xbox and PC over the last 4 years.
  • Expect continued multiplatform push and Day One release for live-service release across all platforms.

The era of exclusivity has finally come to an end, as most games are now multiplatform, and Sony has also joined this trend. They started porting first-party titles to PC a few years ago and to Xbox more recently.

This strategy has been incredibly successful for them, bringing in a whopping $2.3 billion over the past 4 years.

Why it matters: Exclusivity isn’t viable anymore in this era, and publishers pursuing it only bring themselves harm. Hence, Sony’s adoption of this path was the righteous move as evidenced by this massive revenue from publishing games.

first party playstation games other platform
PlayStation First-Party Games Revenue On Other Platforms

Combining all revenues from Q1 2022 till the recent Q3 2025 earnings from games released on PC and Xbox (Thanks, Tweaktown), we find that they’ve made nearly $2.37 billion from publishing games on third-party platforms.

It is notable to mention that Sony does consider published titles like Helldivers 2, which is owned by Arrowhead Studios, a first-party game. The same is the case with MLB The Show games.

This is a considerable amount of money, and it’s safe to say that Sony will stick with this strategy moving forward. Better yet, they only release single-player games on PC nearly a year or two after their initial release on PlayStation, creating a timed exclusive window, a win-win for both PC and PlayStation users.

Ghost of Yotei
Expect A 6 Month Release Window Going Forward

On Xbox, however, they only release live-service games like Helldivers 2. Going forward, all live-service games from Team Blue will be multiplatform releases as well, that too on Day One.

Xbox doesn’t implement this strategy, however, as they launch all titles across PC, Xbox, and PlayStation, even aiming for a consistent Day One release on the rival platform now.

Story Highlight
  • Xbox Elite controllers are some of the most popular pro controllers in the market.
  • The latest refresh, the Elite Series 3, is expected to be released this year.
  • A next-gen controller was also greenlit with built-in Wi-Fi for Xbox Cloud Gaming.

Xbox controllers have been the staple for many people over the years. They are not only very reliable but also offer some of the best compatibility for PC users. However, the Xbox Elite controller is due for a refresh, and it might happen this year.

A new report claims that the Xbox Elite Series 3 controller will come out this year. These controllers are generally geared towards pros, who require features like tap triggers, additional buttons, and more.

Why it matters: The “Pro” controller space has seen a lot of activity with Sony having the Dual Sense Edge, others like Flydigi, but the Xbox controllers remain the default choice for many gamers.

Xbox Elite Series 2
Xbox Elite Series controllers are due for a refresh for a very long time

According to The Verge, we can expect the Elite Series 3 to launch this year. A next-gen Xbox controller has also been greenlit, which will include built-in Wi-Fi and help with reduced latency during Xbox Cloud Gaming.

Xbox Elite Controller Series 3 debuts in 2026, which would align with a rollout of next-gen Xbox controllers.

Next-gen Xbox Controllers are also expected this year

The Series Elite refresh has been a long time coming. As good as Series 2 is, it has some glaring issues, like standard joysticks that are prone to drift. However, there is no confirmation if Series 3 will ship with hall-effect sticks or not.

Other quality control issues have also been recurrent, with reports of peeling grips, sticky buttons, and more, which people don’t expect for the steep price. Nonetheless, it’ll be interesting to see what Xbox does with it.
