Take-Two CEO Says GTA 6 Will ‘Energize’ Console Sales When It Launches Later This Year

Story Highlight
  • Take-Two boss says that GTA 6 will energize console sales.
  • Many people will upgrade from last-gen, and most PC players will also potentially buy consoles specifically for GTA 6.
  • Microsoft has reportedly started increasing Xbox Series X|S production to prepare for the game release.

GTA 6 is finally releasing later this year on November 19th, with no further delays expected, as stated by the Take-Two boss. Marketing for the game will soon ramp up in summertime, and we’re just months from arguably the greatest release in the history of entertainment.

With massive sales expected for the nearly $1 billion+ project, GTA 6 will also give the entire industry a boost, including a push for console sales, as Take-Two CEO puts it.

Why it matters: A software pushing hardware sales is completely opposite of what one would expect, but it just goes to show the scale of what Rockstar is building with GTA 6.

New Details For GTA 6 Launch || Source: X

On CNBC, Strauss Zelnick discussed the upcoming plans for GTA 6, now that the game’s release date has been locked.

We’re launching GTA 6 on the newest consoles. Those consoles have been in the market for some time, so some people who don’t have those consoles might have to buy them and i think we’ll probably energize console sales.

Here, the CEO is likely referring to the people on the last-generation consoles, saying that the GTA 6 launch will compel them to upgrade, leading to a surge in the sales of PS5 and Xbox Series devices.

Microsoft has already begun ramping up production of the Xbox Series X|S to prepare for the game’s launch. GTA 6 will be a blessing for Team Green, especially considering their recent hardware performance which was hit rock bottom.

GTA 6
Global Gaming Revenue Expected To Surpass A $200 Billion

For PS5, it is expected to be the main platform for the game, with Rockstar reportedly having secured a marketing deal secured with Sony. The PS5 Pro is already expected to be the only console to support 60FPS for the game, and with the upcoming PSSR update, the mid-gen refresh is finally expected to become successful.

It is also notable that GTA 6 will be a console-only release at launch, as history goes for Rockstar titles. Therefore, expect a lot of PC players also buy consoles exclusively for this game.

Nvidia RTX 60 Series Delayed Beyond 2027 As Memory Shortages Intensify

Story Highlight
  • Nvidia has reportedly scrapped plans to launch the RTX 50 Super graphics card this year due to the memory dilemma and AI focus.
  • The company also appears to have cancelled plans to ship the RTX 60 series in late 2027.
  • A change in Nvidia’s plans could lead to a similar delay for AMD’s next-generation lineup.

Nvidia’s plans for the RTX 50 lineup’s Super refresh were thwarted when demand for AI suddenly shot up, and memory seemingly ceased to exist for consumer-grade products.

Team Green, being the leader of the AI revolution, was quick to shift focus from the gaming segment, and a new update highlights that it may have done so for the long term. According to a new report, Nvidia has delayed the RTX 60 lineup.

Why it matters: Nvidia has consistently released a new generation of GeForce gaming graphics cards over the last two decades. It seems the current memory shortages brought about by chip demand for the AI industry have put these plans in jeopardy.

Nvidia RTX 50 Super Series
The RTX 50 Super Won’t See The Light of Day

According to a report published by The Information, Nvidia initially hoped to debut the RTX 50 Super lineup at CES 2026. This information lines up with past rumors regarding the series, but the new report reiterates that no more gaming graphics cards are coming this year.

In fact, it is also said that Nvidia is pushing back plans for the RTX 60 series. Previously, this generation of RTX GPUs was expected to launch in late 2027, so gamers might not have new Nvidia products to look forward to till 2028 at the earliest.

Demand for GeForce RTX GPUs is strong, and memory supply is constrained.

-Nvidia Spokesperson

At the same time, Nvidia is also dialing down production for various RTX 50 graphics cards, seemingly focusing on those with limited memory for the time being. Simply put, the situation is quite dire for gaming enthusiasts looking forward to new GPUs.

Perhaps the most disappointing part about the whole ordeal is that Nvidia was said to be tackling the issue of limited VRAM with the RTX 50 Super series and beyond. With memory shortages now rampant, there’s no telling when new graphics cards will hit the market.

It’s worth noting that leakers have insisted that Nvidia’s RTX 60 launch would also determine AMD’s release window for the next generation of RDNA graphics cards. With Nvidia seemingly ready to delay its next generation, AMD could follow suit.

HP, Dell, Acer, and ASUS Reportedly Turning to Chinese DRAM to Keep 2026 Production on Track

Story Highlight
  • HP, Dell, Acer, and ASUS are reportedly considering sourcing DRAM from China.
  • Currently, a contract hasn’t been set in place as manufacturers are still considering this option.
  • This will help the manufacturers maintain production for PC units till the global DRAM shortage ends.

A quiet shift in Asia’s semiconductor supply chain could send shockwaves through the world’s PC sector.

The report by Nikkei Asia tells us that major hardware manufacturers such as HP, Dell, Acer, and ASUS are reportedly considering using DRAM memory chips manufactured in China for their PCs and laptops until 2026.

Why it matters: While the plan may bring cost and supply advantages, it also risks unleashing geopolitical and commercial reactions. What’s unfolding isn’t just industry friction; it’s a high-stakes test of how far global tech companies are willing to push against entrenched power centers in memory manufacturing.

HP Dell Acer and ASUS buying DRAM memory from China
The DRAM Shortage Is Expected To Last For At Least A Couple Of Years

The report states that HP is the manufacturer that has made the most significant progress and is currently in negotiations. The company is already certifying DRAM modules from Chinese producer ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT), demonstrating its seriousness.

This technique provides HP with a viable alternative if present market conditions persist through much of 2026. If this memory gets integrated, it will first be limited to markets outside of the United States due to less harsh regulatory limitations.

Dell, for its part, is also investigating CXMT DRAM, although the purpose is to decrease its exposure to future price increases and potential supply cuts from large traditional suppliers. However, there are no finalized contracts, merely an ongoing technical and logistical evaluation process, indicating that this is more than just discussions.

China Manufacturing RAMs To Export
More Companies Are Getting Into DRAM Production Business As Global Supply Becomes Constricted

Acer’s approach is more practical. The company is open to using Chinese memory if its manufacturing partners incorporate it into the supply chain. It assumes that diversifying suppliers may be required to maintain production volumes and lead times with Chinese DRAM.

ASUS is taking a similar route as Acer, with notable changes. According to the source, it has requested assistance from local Chinese manufacturers in locating available memory for certain laptop projects. The search is limited to specific models and does not necessarily suggest widespread usage.

None of the four manufacturers is refusing to buy extra memory; rather, their manufacturing partners lack production capacity.

Simultaneously, they must sell their products in order to cover expenses and investments, which they cannot do without memory. China’s entry into the memory equation in 2026 will be interesting, as we know that it will not offer cheaper memory. In fact, it may be more expensive than memory from South Korea and the United States.

PS5 Price Hike Unlikely In 2026 As Sony Says It Has Already Secured Enough Memory For The Year

Story Highlight
  • Sony’s CFO states that the company has secured enough memory to last the next fiscal year.
  • This should keep PS5 prices stable despite ongoing memory shortages and price hikes.
  • Sony likely intends to sell as many PS5 consoles as possible to capitalize on the excitement for GTA 6.

Sony is rapidly closing in on 100 million PS5 sales. Despite a price hike last year, the console continues to perform well, highlighting higher-than-expected sales during the Holidays last year.

At the same time, many have expressed concerns regarding the PS5’s pricing due to the prevalent memory crisis. Fortunately, Sony has shared words of encouragement in a recent update on the matter. The gaming giant’s latest statement also suggests another price hike is unlikely for 2026.

Why it matters: Big titles like GTA 6 and Marvel’s Wolverine are set to launch later this year, so 2026 could be the biggest success story for the PS5. As such, Sony appears keen on maintaining its current price point.

Sony Aims To Ship As Many PS5 Consoles As Possible

As part of Sony’s latest earnings release, CFO Lin Tao addressed the ongoing memory shortage in the earnings call.

She confirmed that Sony has secured the minimum quantity to manage sales throughout the next fiscal year. The company’s latest earnings call covers Q3 of fiscal year 2025, so this statement should imply the gaming giant has enough memory to produce PS5 units till the end of 2026 and possibly into 2027.

CFO Lin Tao also stated that Sony will continue to negotiate further deals with suppliers to meet customer demands. Moreover, the gaming giant will continue working toward ways to monetize existing PS5 users as memory shortages evolve.

We are already in a position to secure the minimum quantity necessary to manage the year-end selling season of the next fiscal year.

-Lin Tao

This is good news for both Sony and its consumers since GTA 6 will undoubtedly push millions of gamers to buy a PS5.

GTA 6 Will Likely Lead To The PS5’s Most Successful Year In 2026

Given that Sony is confident in the amount of memory it has secured for the year, the PS5 should be able to survive the wave of rising costs coming in the next few months.

Whether the same will be true of other consoles like the Xbox Series S|X and the Nintendo Switch 2 throughout the year remains to be seen, but the latter also appears to have secured memory inventory to avoid price hikes for now.

Steam Machine Still Set To Launch In The First Half Of 2026 Despite Memory Crisis, Confirms Valve

Story Highlight
  • The Steam Machine is still planning to launch in the first-half of 2026, as per Valve.
  • The company admitted that the memory crisis has made them re-evaluate the release date and cost of the console.
  • Moreover, the Steam Machine will run most of the new and demanding titles at 4K 60 FPS due to FSR.

Despite the initial anticipation, the hype around the Steam Machine has been impacted by the memory crisis, with analysts claiming that the console will be delayed and priced higher than what consumers expected.

Some have predicted that Valve could be forced to put a $700 price tag on the Steam Machine due to the constraints of growing RAM prices. Now, the company has come out to confirm that the PC-console hybrid will launch as planned, but the cost is still a mystery.

Why It Matters: Valve taking its time to announce the price point of the Steam Machine is the best move, as the memory shortages are very unpredictable right now.

In a new Steam Hardware Blog post, Valve revealed that its intention to launch the Steam Machine in the first half of 2026 hasn’t changed despite the growing prices of essential components.

The company stated that it was planning to disclose the cost and launch date of the console by now. However, the memory shortage has forced Valve to re-evaluate the price of the Steam Machine and its shipping schedule.

Furthermore, the blog explained that there is still work to do before the company can announce the price tag and release date of the Steam Machine, as the conditions of the market can change very quickly.

Regardless, Valve did feed fans some information about the console’s performance. Most of the new and more demanding games will run at 4K 60FPS with FSR on the Steam Machine, while some other titles will require a bit of upscaling, but the blog suggests playing them at a lower frame rate is preferable to maintain the 1080p resolution.

Nintendo Switch 2 Prices To Remain Stable Despite RAM Cost Hike, Says Nintendo President

Story Highlight
  • The Nintendo Switch 2 won’t see a price hike despite the memory crisis, says the company’s president.
  • The company has a stable supply of essential components thanks to its partners.
  • However, if RAM prices rise beyond Nintendo’s expectations, the company will adjust the Switch 2’s price based on various factors, not just profitability.

The AI boom has severely impacted the gaming industry, with memory shortages driving up the prices of almost every essential component. Even a gaming giant like Valve is withholding the release of the Steam Machine due to the ongoing crisis.

Nintendo Switch 2 is another console being affected by the growing price of RAM, with the company previously admitting that the rising costs will eat into profits. Despite the impact, however, the Switch 2 will stick to its $450 price point, at least for now.

Why It Matters: Nintendo holding the fort and keeping Switch 2 prices stable despite the current situation is a testament to its fan-service and consumer-friendly policies.

switch 2 price increase
Switch 2’s profitability hasn’t suffered despite an increase in RAM pricing.

In a Q&A session after Nintendo’s recent financial report, president Shuntaro Furukawa stated that the Switch 2 pricing will remain stable for now as the company doesn’t want to be overly influenced by the memory crisis.

Price changes will be determined comprehensively, taking into account not only profitability but also the adoption of the platform, sales trends and market conditions.”

According to the Nintendo president, the company is in constant contact with its business partners to maintain a stable supply of components for the Switch 2. Hence, no price tweaks are planned for the console as the shortage hasn’t impacted Nintendo too much.

Furukawa did issue a warning to fans that if the need arises, the Japanese giant won’t hesitate to adjust the cost of Nintendo Switch 2. But that is only if the price of RAM keeps increasing beyond the company’s expectations.

Nintendo Switch 2
An increase in the console’s price won’t be due to profits alone.

For now, Nintendo predicts that the overall market will continue as expected into the next financial quarter. Moreover, if the situation calls for a price hike, the Japanese giant will adjust the cost by taking into account the market, console adoption, and sales trends, not just profitability.

Do you think the Nintendo Switch 2 will eventually fall victim to the memory crisis, or will the company maintain its $450 price tag? Tell us in the comments below or head to the Tech4Gamers forum for discussion.

Ghost of Yotei Sold Better Than Ghost of Tsushima In The Same Period, Confirms Sony

Story Highlight
  • There were calls for a boycott before Ghost of Yotei was released back in October 2025.
  • Sony says it sold better than Ghost of Tsushima in the same time period.
  • Despite doubts, the game has been both a critical and a commercial success.

Sony didn’t have many significant releases last year. Ghost of Yotei was the company’s major exclusive for 2025, and the expectations were through the roof. It did deliver for the most part, and apparently, the sales were decent as well.

The Japanese tech giant just released its financial report, and the company CFO has confirmed that Ghost of Yotei sold much better than Ghost of Yotei in the same time period and significantly contributed to their financial results.

Why it matters: Some people claimed the title was underwhelming from initial impressions, and there was also a call for a boycott. Regardless, it seems to have posted good sales for the company.

Ghost of Yotei
Sony’s tentpole release of 2025 apparently posted quite decent sales numbers

Sony just released its earnings report, boasting good figures and revealing that the PlayStation 5 has now sold over 92 million units. The CFO, Lin Tao, stated that Ghost of Yotei sales were really impressive.

Ghost of Yotei, a tentpole title we released in October, exceeded the sales of the previous title in the same period of time

– Lin Tao

Ghost of Tsushima, released in 2024 was a major financial success. It has sold over 13 million copies to date. But since its release, Sony says that Ghost of Yotei has had more sales compared to the first samurai game.

Ghost of Tsushima
The sales were better than the original in the same time

Ghost of Yotei has had its fair share of controversies. Its protagonist was criticized, and the studio was called woke. This led to calls for boycotts as well, which didn’t really affect it, considering the reviews and sales.

Sony hasn’t really revealed any specific sales numbers, but according to its last report that released in November 2025, the title had sold 3.3 million units, so the sales numbers could be much higher now.

Black Myth: Wukong Could Be Coming to Nintendo Switch 2, Report Suggests

Story Highlight
  • Insider NateTheHate reveals a Black Myth Wukong port planned for Switch 2.
  • The announcement is expected at today’s Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase.
  • It’ll be interesting to see how the handheld will run this infamous demanding title.

Black Myth Wukong was one of those RPGs that put Chinese developers on the radar, going on to become the biggest release of 2024, and currently holds the record for the second-highest concurrent players on Steam at 2.25 million.

Now, 2 years after its original release, the game is headed for the Nintendo Switch 2, potentially becoming one of the biggest third-party releases for the handheld.

Why it matters: Black Myth Wukong was a shocking release and one of the most unique RPGs despite being a soulslike at its core. The title arriving on the Switch 2 will open it to a whole new fanbase.

This claim comes from insider Nate The Hate, one of the most reliable leakers in the industry, who dropped this massive bombshell in his latest YouTube video.

“I have heard this game is coming to Switch 2 at some point and that title is Black Myth Wukong.”

Nate expects a reveal at the Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase scheduled for later today. The showcase is said to focus on third-party reveals, since support was lacking at release, and Nintendo is apparently making up for it.

Games like Resident Evil Remakes, Expedition 33, and more are expected for the Switch 2 at the Direct.

Black Myth: Zhong Kui Announced As The Series’ Next Chapter

Anyhow, it’ll be exciting to see how the Switch 2 handles such a demanding game that even gave the RTX 5090 a run for its money, struggling to maintain 30 FPS at 4K Ultra.

The console versions weren’t that great either, and even the PS5 Pro struggled to output 1080p and failed to maintain a consistent 60FPS

The developers already stated it was a challenge to port it to Xbox Series X|S, which is why it arrived later on Microsoft consoles. Since the Xbox Series S and Switch 2 are similar in scale, expect the handheld port to run the same as the budget console.

The Witcher 1 Remake Release Postponed as CD Projekt Red Shifts Resources to The Witcher 4

Story Highlight
  • Witcher 1 remake has been delayed because most of the development team has now been assigned to work on Witcher 4.
  • The remake is now targeting a 2028 release.
  • Earlier reports indicated that the remake will completely redefine the original game, move to an open-world format, and remove outdated and problematic elements.

Following a more than a decade-long hiatus, CD Projekt Red is now moving full throttle on the Witcher franchise, currently working on 3 projects: Witcher 4, a Witcher 1 Remake (Canis Majoris), and a spin-off multiplayer Witcher project (Project Sirius).

Witcher 4 is the studio’s next project, currently on track for a 2027 release. For the Witcher 1 remake, however, the project has now been postponed as CD Projekt Red diverts resources to fast-track the development of the fourth entry.

Why it matters: Witcher 4 has a lot of expectations riding on the project and is likely the studio’s biggest project in terms of scale. Therefore, it makes sense that CD Projekt Red is prioritizing it.

CD Projekt RED
The Studio Has Been Working On Various Unreal Engine 5 Improvements That Will Benefit The Entire Industry

This news comes from Noble Securities, an investment firm that primarily focuses on the Polish developer. According to their new report, development on Canis Majoris has been significantly slowed, as most developers from the studio Fool’s Theory have been shifted to work on The Witcher 4.

Now, the project has been pushed to a 2028 release, scheduled to arrive a year after the release of the fourth entry.

The Witcher 1 remake is also being built on Unreal Engine 5, as all other upcoming CD Projekt Red titles are, since the studio abandoned its in-house REDEngine. Furthermore, it is also understandable that Canis Majoris was drawing a lot of assets from The Witcher 4’s development.

CD Projekt RED Cyberpunk 2077 The Witcher 3
CD Projekt RED Expected To Release Projects Annually Starting From 2027

This suggests the titles will likely be similar, as they’ll largely share the same elements. The Witcher 1 remake will be vastly different from the original in gameplay, with outdated features being reworked or removed to better align with modern game design.

Moreover, the game is also expected to go open-world compared to the original’s hub-world structure. While both these projects are still far away, fans can expect some new Witcher content soon, as the same investment firm expects a new DLC expansion for The Witcher 3 in the upcoming months.

“We’ve Been Talking To Microsoft” – Epic Games VP On Third-Party Integration For Next-Gen Xbox

Story Highlight
  • The Epic Games VP has teased the storefront’s arrival on Xbox.
  • He says that the company would be glad to make an Epic Games Store application for Xbox consoles.
  • The VP also discussed a potential Epic Games Store experience for the ROG Xbox Ally.

The Epic Games Store may not have become as big a rival to Steam as it hoped to be, but it has certainly established a name for itself over the years, thanks in large part to the company’s strategy of offering free games.

As the company continues to explore options to grow this ecosystem further, Microsoft’s next-gen console, seemingly on track to launch next year, presents a major opportunity. In fact, the team has even teased its potential storefront on the next-gen Xbox.

Why it matters: Microsoft is taking a new approach with the next-gen Xbox, combining the PC and console experience into one. This console-PC hybrid experience could be a gateway to a bigger audience for the Epic Games Store.

Xbox Series X
Xbox Is Trying Something Different Next Generation

Speaking to Windows Central, Epic Games Store VP Steve Allison acknowledged that talks between Microsoft and Epic Games are already underway on the subject.

He was keen to confirm that the team would be glad to make an application for the upcoming Xbox consoles if third-party storefronts were allowed on the next-generation hardware.

We’ve been talking to the folks at Microsoft. If they do follow through with allowing Steam and the Epic Games Store on Xbox hardware, we will be there.

-Steve Allison

The VP also confirmed that an optimized version of the app store is being considered for the Xbox ROG Ally, teasing that this could come to fruition at some point during the next year.

Steam vs Epic Games
Epic Games Store and Steam Could Compete On Xbox Very Soon

As VP Steve Allison pointed out, Epic Games Store’s arrival on Xbox would also mean competition with Steam on the console.

This competition has been a huge focus for Steve Allison and everyone else at the company, but it remains to be seen whether things will improve for the better when both storefronts debut on Xbox consoles.

Highguard Boss Says Player Count Irrelevant As Game Loses 90% of Active Audience

Story Highlight
  • The team behind Highguard believes player counts don’t matter much when looking at the bigger picture.
  • Wildlight Entertainment’s CEO states that players loving the game matters most, regardless of the community’s size.
  • Highguard’s recent perception has somewhat changed for the better following the introduction of a 5v5 mode.

Highguard is the latest free-to-play first-person shooter to hit the market and bet big on the live-service trend. Unfortunately, the game has been critiqued a bit too harshly following its Game Awards debut.

As the game’s real-world performance continues to unravel following a surprisingly huge audience turnover on day one, the Wildlight Entertainment boss has stated that player counts ultimately don’t mean much to the team.

Why it matters: Highguard’s numbers on Steam indicate that the first-person shooter has lost most of its audience. However, it doesn’t appear to be failing nearly as badly as many people had expected.

Highguard
Highguard has been out for over a week

Speaking to Polygon, Wildlight Entertainment CEO Dusty Welch admitted that the team pursued a free-to-play model to appeal to as many players as possible.

The studio also experimented with a potential premium model, but ended up going the free-to-play route as it made the most sense. According to Dusty Welch, player counts are not the be-all, end-all for Wildlight Entertainment.

Instead, he believes that people loving and showing a passion for the game is the most important. To this end, he finds that even a dedicated community of a few thousand is more than enough.

Whether it gets a thousand people or a hundred million people, it doesn’t matter. What matters most is that the game is loved most by the people who played it.

-Dusty Welch

Highguard is a mishmash of many popular multiplayer tropes.
Highguard is a mishmash of many popular multiplayer tropes

Whether the CEO’s wish will come to fruition is anybody’s guess for now, but the recent addition of 5v5 gameplay has led to slightly more positive conversations regarding Highguard.

The first-person shooter also appears to have somewhat stabilized at daily concurrent peaks of 5-10K players on Steam after initially losing 90% of the day-one audience.

After Nvidia, AMD Is Also Reportedly Prioritizing 8GB GPUs

Story Highlight
  • AMD is just fresh from a recent price hike that surged GPU prices by around 5-10%.
  • The company is now prioritizing 8GB GPUs, and there will be another price increase.
  • Nvidia recently also did the same and is also prioritizing entry to mid-level GPUs.

GPU prices have been soaring lately, with MSRPs not being a thing anymore. Nvidia has already been called out for being anti-consumer, while AMD did show intent on keeping the prices stable, but that doesn’t seem like the case anymore.

According to a new report, AMD is going to prioritize 8GB GPUs from now on, and there will be another price hike. Nvidia previously reportedly did the same and is now focusing mostly on 8GB graphics cards as well.

Why it matters: Because of the abnormally high memory prices, to attain maximum profits, companies are using less VRAM to keep the investment to a minimum, and entry-level cards are being prioritized.

AMD 8GB GPUs
AMD is shifting focus entirely towards 8GB graphics cards

The report (via Board Channels) claims that, based on the memory issues, AMD is readjusting its product line, with a primary focus on 8GB GPUs. This means Radeon RX 9060 XT 8GB will be AMD’s primary graphics card for 2026.

The company has already informed its AIB partners, and there will be another price hike in February or March, which will lead the prices to go even higher. The focus on the 16GB cards will be significantly reduced.

The GPU prices are now at their highest in many years

Nvidia has been doing the same. The RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5080 are being sold at incredibly high prices. The only GPUs that are readily available are RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti 8GB. This will now be the case for AMD, too.
