Neil Druckmann Previously Confirmed That The Studio Was Working On 2 Projects!

Story Highlight
  • Tech4Gamers has come across a job listing from Naughty Dog that appears to be hiring for a multiplatform multiplayer release.
  • Neil Druckmann had previously confirmed they were working on another project in addition to Intergalactic.
  • The studio had previously worked on a multiplayer Last of Us title before they eventually axed it.

Naughty Dog, one of the oldest SIE studios, is also its most prized, credited with creating some of the best video game IPs, including Uncharted, The Last of Us, Crash Bandicoot, and Jak and Daxter.

Now, the studio is fully engaged in developing its next IP, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, an action-adventure sci-fi game.

Aside from the single-player project, Naught Dog appears to be working on a second project, a multiplatform multiplayer release, according to a new job listing found by Tech4Gamers.

Why it matters: Naughty Dog’s past multiplayer experiences were surprisingly enjoyable for a single-player-focused team. Fans have also wanted to see the studio try its hand at multiplayer again for a while.

Potential Key Details For Naughty Dog’s Next Project | Source: Naughty Dog Job Listing For Senior Sound Designer

The job posting titled ‘Senior Sound Designer (Contingent)’ seeks to hire a developer for crafting in-game sound effects. While the job responsibilities and skills are mostly technical, the Bonus Skills section provides some insight into the project.

Experience with multiplayer games is a plus for Naughty Dog, as is experience implementing audio across multiple platforms, strongly suggesting it will be a multiplatform multiplayer release.

The ‘multiple platform’ point effectively rules out the aforementioned job posting being for Intergalactic, since the single-player release will be a PlayStation exclusive.

It is also worth noting that Neil Druckmann previously confirmed that they were working on another project in addition to Intergalactic, so this job posting could be for that second game.

Naughty Dog Reportedly Cancelled Game That Caused It To Abandon The Last of Us Multiplayer

It is unknown what this title could be, and it likely will not be released anytime soon. Currently, Naughty Dog is fast-tracking development for Intergalactic, which is reportedly scheduled for a mid 2027 release.

At one point, the studio worked on a standalone multiplayer Last of Us project, but it was unfortunately shelved. There is a possibility that Naughty Dog could be reviving the project.

Anyhow, we don’t exclude the possibility that Naughty Dog could be providing support to another studio, but it’s unlikely they’ll do so for a multiplayer project and at a time when Intergalactic is approaching its final stages of development.
