12GB For Switch 2 Compared To 10GB For Xbox!

Nintendo has left a permanent mark on the gaming industry with the Nintendo Switch, inspiring waves of handheld gaming devices after this segment of the market had not been too active recently. This has also led to excitement for the Nintendo Switch 2.

Nintendo’s next console is already shaping up to be a worthy successor, with rumors claiming the gaming giant has already provided developers a sneak peek at Gamescom 2023.

The console is expected to support ray tracing and handle Unreal Engine 5 games. Following this information, a leak claims that the Nintendo Switch successor includes 12GB of RAM.

Why it matters: While the Nintendo Switch was a great console, it received criticism for its weaker hardware compared to the competition. The new hardware should allow the gaming giant to push its beloved IPs further and explore more possibilities.

The latest report comes from Universo Nintendo’s editor-in-chief, who has previously proven to be an accurate source of Nintendo information.

Previously, sources claimed the Nintendo Switch 2 was able to run Zelda: Breath of the Wild at a higher frame rate than its predecessor. The latest rumor claims that this is made possible due to the new hardware, including 12GB of RAM.

This is three times the RAM found in the original Nintendo Switch, putting the Nintendo console ahead of the Xbox Series S since Microsoft’s cheapest current-generation console is limited to 10GB of RAM.

On the other hand, the more capable Xbox Series X and PS5 come with 16GB of unified memory, making them more capable than the Nintendo Switch 2, as expected. Still, this should provide a much-needed step up for Nintendo.

The source also claimed that the console includes DLSS 3.1, allowing it to support ray tracing on the Nvidia hardware. This should open up new opportunities for the console, allowing studios to experiment with the revolutionary upscaling and lighting techniques.

Nintendo Switch 2

The rumor mill is now in full swing as the Nintendo Switch 2 gets closer to launch.

Nintendo is expected to release the console with 512GB of storage and an 8-inch display, making it much better than the original console in terms of storage at release.

According to reports, the console will be released at some point in the second half of 2024, leading to hopes for a small teaser from Nintendo by the end of 2023.
