GTA 6 Delay Could Cost PlayStation and Xbox 700K Console Sales in 2025, Analysts Claim

Story Highlight
  • GTA 6 was recently delayed to 2026.
  • Following the announcement, an industry data company has lowered its sales estimate for PlayStation and Xbox for the year.
  • The company suggests that the recent delay means PlayStation and Xbox will sell 700K fewer consoles this year.

Just recently, it was officially confirmed that GTA 6 has been delayed until 2026 to avoid a crunch during the final stages of development.

Now that the title has been delayed to next year, an analyst suggests that the delay of GTA 6 means PlayStation and Xbox will sell 700K fewer consoles than expected in 2025.

Why it matters: Not too long ago, the Take-Two CEO also stated that the release of GTA 6 would bring huge boosts in PlayStation and Xbox sales.

GTA 6
GTA 6 Has Been Delayed To 2026.

As reported by The Game Business, Analytics firm Ampere Analysis has reduced its 2025  sales forecast for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X by 700K units soon after the delay of GTA 6.

Not only that, but Ampere Analysis has lowered its sales forecast for the video games market for consoles, mainly for PlayStation and Xbox game sales, by 21 million units. It has been further suggested that the console market will miss out on  $2.7 billion in revenue just in 2025, following the delay of GTA 6.

You would expect people to spend on other things [instead]. But that kind of transfer will not be entirely. There will be a significant impact.

-Ampere’s Piers Harding-Rolls

GTA 6
GTA 6 Is Going To Be The Biggest Release In The Gaming Industry.

While it has also been suggested that the video game industry growth will only be by 0.9% this year, which is likely to improve to 2.2% next year because of GTA 6.

The report further suggests that while Xbox and PlayStation will have a quiet year, Nintendo Switch 2 is likely to see a boost in sales as it is also the second device of the owners of PlayStation 5.

Doom: The Dark Ages Is ‘Masterfully Optimized’ Even On Mid-Range Hardware, Reveals Analysis

Story Highlight
  • Doom: The Dark Ages is greatly optimized on PCs, even mid-range hardware.
  • The game offers solid 60 FPS and smooth frames even on an RTX 4060 with R5 3600.
  • id Tech Engine is much superior to Unreal Engine in terms of performance.

With the launch of Doom: The Dark Ages, most fans were complaining about the title’s high system requirements. It seemed like performance would be a major issue at release, however, detailed analysis shows that the game is quite well optimized.

Even testing on a mid-range Nvidia RTX 4060 paired with Ryzen 5 3600, the title shows excellent results with exceptionally smooth frame times and a consistent 60 FPS gameplay, which is commendable for a modern release.

Why it matters: Its predecessor, Doom: Eternal, was exceptionally optimized, but based on the high system requirements, many fans feared that The Dark Ages would face major performance issues.

Digital Foundry tested Doom: The Dark Ages on an RTX 4060 paired with Ryzen 5 3600 at 1440p with max settings, texture pool set at ‘2048’, and ‘Quality’ DLSS. The result was a smooth gameplay with exceptional fluidity.

However, you need to optimize the settings a bit despite this. For example, in a certain challenging environment where FPS drops, you can lower the shadow setting to get back to the higher frame rate, which for Doom is essential.

Doom the Dark Ages
Doom: The Dark Ages is one of the best-optimized modern games on PC.

The game is heavy on the VRAM, though. With an 8GB GPU, 2048 is the suggested texture pool, while you can turn it up for more high-end GPUs. However, there isn’t much difference even when the texture quality is dialled to the max.

The visuals look great in all cases, thanks to the RTGI, and the loading times are almost non-existent. Digital Foundry also claims it is one of the best-optimized games they’ve seen in a while, thanks to no shader compilation in the id Tech engine, compared to Unreal Engine 5.

Stellar Blade Blocked in 132 Countries on Steam as Sony Keeps Region Locking PC Ports

Story Highlight
  • Sony is region-locking the Stellar Blade PC port in about 132 countries, including some European countries.
  • This means players in those countries can’t buy or even see the game’s store page, similar to other PlayStation PC games.
  • Moreover, Stellar Blade will use Denuvo anti-piracy software, which some players say causes performance problems.

Ever since the announcement of Stellar Blade’s PC port, there has been excitement and hype among the PC players. However, that excitement will soon fade when they hear that Sony is continuing the trend of region locking its PC ports with Stellar Blade.

The game, developed by SHIFT UP and slated for a June 11, 2025 release on PC, is unavailable for purchase in as many as 132 countries, mirroring restrictions seen with other PlayStation PC releases.

Why it matters: Sony’s region locking of its PC ports continues to raise eyebrows among players and concerns about its games’ accessibility in various regions.

Stellar Blade PC Port Unavailable in 132 Countries

Sony often restricts access to its PC games in regions where PlayStation Network isn’t officially available. Players in more than 130 countries, such as Estonia and Lithuania, may not be able to buy or even see Stellar Blade on stores like Steam.

Moreover, players in these countries can’t buy titles like The Last of Us Part 2, God of War Ragnarok, or Helldivers 2 on their local Steam stores. Even though Sony no longer requires a PSN login for certain games, these regional restrictions still apply.

It is unclear whether these restrictions are imposed by Sony; however, since they have not provided a response, it’s safe to assume who is responsible.

Adding insult to injury, Stellar Blade will be the first PlayStation PC port to use Denuvo Anti-Tamper, a tool meant to stop piracy. Many players have complained about it causing slower performance and other technical problems in games that use it.

Eve Featured Stellar Blade
The success of Stellar Blade made its director one of the wealthiest people in Korea.

Sony hasn’t officially shared which 132 countries will be affected for Stellar Blade, but this matches their usual restrictions. Their recent game, Lost Soul Aside, faced a similar region lock – about 130 countries couldn’t buy it when pre-orders started. Many players find these games either missing from their Steam store or labelled as unavailable in their region.

Stellar Blade’s PC port could attract millions of players, but region restrictions and the use of Denuvo might limit that number. For now, the chances of Sony lifting these restrictions are close to none. Drop your thoughts in the comments, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Ubisoft May End Support or Delist Multiple Legacy Titles Soon

Story Highlight
  • A new development suggests that Ubisoft might end support or delist multiple legacy games soon.
  • The Ubisoft site no longer has game pages for titles such as Driver San Francisco, Trackmania 2 Canyon, and Call of Juarez.
  • Some of these are no longer on the official Ubisoft store page. Ubisoft has made similar moves before delisting games.

Game preservation has been a major concern in the industry since digital libraries became the norm. Among other controversies, Ubisoft has also been criticized for failing in this department. Now, it appears that the company is about to delist more legacy titles.

New updates on the Ubisoft website and its official store suggest that Ubisoft is preparing to either end support or take down multiple of its popular classic games soon. Many game pages have been wiped from the website without any explanation.

Why it matters: Following recent developments or simply because of expired licenses, Ubisoft appears to be preparing to end support or delist many of its classic games in the near future.

The game pages of many legacy titles have been removed on the Ubisoft website.
The game pages of many legacy titles have been removed from the Ubisoft website.

Ubisoft games, including Driver: San Francisco, Trackmania 2: Canyon, Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X. 2, and Call of Juarez, are no longer available on the official website but can be found using the Wayback Machine.

However, some of these titles are still available to purchase on Steam and other platforms.

The company has followed a similar pattern in the past before officially delisting games, such as when Call of Juarez: The Cartel and Gunslinger were removed in 2018 because licensing rights reverted to Techland.

Ubisoft
Ubisoft reported a loss of €82.6M in operating income and 20% in net bookings for FY 24-25.

For those not in the know, Ubisoft is already facing a lawsuit for shutting down The Crew servers late last year. The firm also recently reiterated that digital games are just licenses that can be taken away anytime.

So, Ubisoft may end support or delist the aforementioned games because of expiring licenses, but it is best to be cautiously optimistic.

Do you think Ubisoft will end support or delist these games shortly? Will these titles be lost forever? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Saints Row Studio Was Making A Stealth Batman Game 6 Years Before The Arkham Series

Story Highlight
  • A canceled stealth Batman game has resurfaced, which was in development by Saints Row developer, Volition.
  • A playable demo for the project was created during the PS2 era in 2003, but was never realized beyond that.
  • The gameplay looked quite good for its time and gave Batman fun tools like binoculars and a grappling hook.

A surfaced gameplay demo of a stealth Batman project by Saints Row studio, Volition, yet again shows what we missed out on during the PS2 era.

The closed studio was working on the playable demo in 2003, which featured unique gameplay concepts not seen until a whopping six years later with Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham Asylum.

Why it matters: The Batman franchise has missed out on various fun gameplay concepts over the years because of multiple canceled projects. However, WB Games’ focus on its legacy IPs means we will soon see more Batman titles.

GamesRadar got to see the unreleased demo in an interview with The Strong’s director of digital preservation, Andrew Borman, who aims to secure the 30-year legacy of Volition in the National Museum of Play.

A video of the demo also leaked last year, showing cutscenes with complete voice acting and sound effects before transitioning into gameplay. The gameplay shows Batman climbing around the various buildings and taking down enemies in satisfying finishing moves

Moreover, Batman utilizes various tools, such as a grappling hook, binoculars, and grenades. Surprisingly, the same tools and Batman model appear in Arkham Asylum six years later.

On a side note, a remake of Arkham Asylum and a new Batman Beyond title are also in Rocksteady’s works.

Batman Arkham City
Multiple Batman projects have ended up being canceled over the years.

The demo was made around the same time as Volition’s Underground, which was canceled after a year due to similarities to GTA 3. The exact mechanics were likely applied to the stealth Batman game to salvage the year of development, but nothing came out of it.

Do you think this stealth Batman title could have turned out to be a classic even before the release of Arkham Asylum? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Ubisoft Brings Its 16 Major Games To PC Xbox App, Following Significant Losses

Story Highlight
  • Ubisoft has recently released 16 of its major games to the PC Xbox app.
  • The company released them the same day it revealed some significant losses in its financial report.
  • Those games include popular titles like Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Far Cry 6, and Watch Dogs 2.

Ubisoft has been suffering for years now due to releasing poor games. The company has lost its touch, and it is being punished for that. It recently had to partner with Tencent in order to survive as AC Shadows’ sales just weren’t enough.

The company has also recently released its financial report, and it reveals massive losses. Following that, Ubisoft has released 16 of its major games to the PC Xbox app.

Why it matters: Ubisoft didn’t support the PC Xbox app first, but now it has released 16 of its major games, including Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

Assassin's Creed Shadows
Assassin’s Creed Shadows Seems To Have Performed Well For Ubisoft

Just recently, both companies have announced that these games will now be available on the Xbox app on the PC.

The following are all the 16 games available to buy and download on the PC Xbox App:

  • Assassin’s Creed Origins
  • Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
  • Assassin’s Creed Shadows
  • Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
  • Far Cry 5
  • Far Cry New Dawn
  • Far Cry 6
  • Immortals Fenyx Rising
  • Riders Republic
  • South Park: The Fractured but Whole
  • Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands
  • Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint
  • Tom Clancy’s The Division 2
  • Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction
  • Watch Dogs 2
  • Watch Dogs Legion

Now, those PC players who wanted to use the Xbox app to download Ubisoft games can do so. However, do note that you would still have to link your Xbox and Ubisoft accounts.

Also, another important thing to note is that these games don’t support the Xbox Play Anywhere feature. So, if you buy it on the PC via the Xbox app, it won’t appear in your library on the Xbox Series S|X. For that, you would have to buy it again on the console, which is extremely disappointing.

Still, it is interesting that Ubisoft launches these games the same day it releases the financial report that paints Assassin’s Creed Shadows as a success, but also reveals some major losses.

What do you think about these games being available on the PC Xbox app? Would you play them? Share your thoughts in the comments section below or join the official Tech4Gamers forums for discussion

Remedy’s New Multiplayer Game FBC: Firebreak Is Inspired By Helldivers 2

Story Highlight
  • A new interview confirms that FBC: Firebreak is inspired by Helldivers 2 because of its friendly fire and other mechanics.
  • The studio believes that the game’s potential is comparable to that of titles like Payday, Darktide, Deep Rock Galactic, and others.
  • The studio wants to avoid predatory live service elements to ensure a player-friendly gameplay loop.

After creating a series of compelling horror narratives, Remedy Entertainment is unexpectedly diving headfirst into its first multiplayer venture with FBC: Firebreak. New details confirm that the entry is heavily inspired by Helldivers 2, a successful co-op shooter.

Anssi Hyytiainen, the game’s Lead Designer, confirms that FBC: Firebreak features satisfying friendly fire elements to keep the gameplay exciting. And having to mow down hordes of enemies is also quite reminiscent of Arrowhead’s Helldivers 2.

Why it matters: FBC: Firebreak is shaping up to be a project designed for gamers instead of profits. Its gameplay loop is created to satisfy players looking for a quick session without worrying about any FOMO elements.

FBC Firebreak
FBC Firebreak is one of the most anticipated multiplayer titles this year.

Speaking to Eurogamer, Anssi Hyytiainen says that FBC: Firebreak features cause-and-effect gameplay, with interactions between different mechanics blending to create emergent gameplay moments, similar to what we’ve seen in Helldivers 2.

Friendly fire is a good example of a very controversial design idea because people have different contexts [from] where they think about it. […] They think of military shooters, super realistic [games], immediately.

Additionally, the studio believes FBC: Firebreak’s potential is up there with the best co-op gems currently on the market, including Deep Rock Galactic, Darktide, and Payday. The game features no live service or FOMO elements and is a relaxing take on co-op shooters.

The game prioritizes quick rounds and lets you earn everything through gameplay. Three parties jump into missions together, with players using weapons, perks, and Crisis kits with wacky tools.

FBC Firebreak is focusing on a player-friendly gameplay loop.

FBC: Firebreak will be released on June 17, 2025, for consoles and PC. The chaotic FPS co-op shooter already appears to be receiving a positive reception in the ongoing previews.

Do you think FBC Firebreak will live up to the players’ expectations and take off because it avoids predatory live service elements? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Fans Believe Doom: The Dark Ages Visual Upgrade Doesn’t Justify Requirements On PC

Story Highlight
  • Doom: The Dark Ages is quite demanding on PC due to mandatory ray-traced global illumination.
  • The game runs much worse than Doom Eternal, and fans believe it looks largely similar to the previous title.
  • Mid-range GPUs like the RTX 3060 fail to achieve 60FPS in the title without upscaling at 1080p.

Doom: The Dark Ages has been a major hit for id Software so far, marking a new high for the franchise. Between solid reviews, impressive technical achievements, and more, the game is a triumph for the entire franchise.

The title is also id Software’s most technically advanced to date, incorporating ray-traced reflections and mandatory ray-traced global illumination. These technologies require performance sacrifices, but fans are not too happy with the loss in frame rate resulting from the new visual outlook.

Why it matters: Doom: The Dark Ages is among the many games that rely solely on ray-tracing for their lighting. This has resulted in scenarios where only two Nvidia GPUs can achieve 60FPS at maxed out native 4K gameplay.

Doom: The Dark Ages
Fans Are Not Happy With The Performance Loss Compared To Doom Eternal | Image via YouTube

Daniel Owens recently benchmarked Doom: The Dark Ages on an RTX 3060, highlighting the fact that the game fails to maintain 60FPS at 1080p Medium settings without relying on upscaling.

The results stand in stark contrast to Doom Eternal’s performance, which could easily achieve more than 120FPS at similar settings. Fans argue that Doom: The Dark Ages, although a step up over its predecessor, does not justify the new requirements with its visuals.

They also believe that the problem is made all the more apparent when considering the fact that visuals take a backseat in a fast-paced title like Doom. Many state that id Software should have introduced a non-ray-traced mode for those on older hardware.

The fidelity increase over performance loss compared to Doom Eternal is not there for me.

-Babytronsab

Similar comments can be found on platforms like Reddit, with some dubbing the game unoptimized.

Many have also pointed out how the game scales poorly between its different graphical presets, offering minimal frame rate improvements unless DLSS, FSR, or dynamic resolution is enabled.

Still, it should be noted that Doom: The Dark Ages runs well for how much ray-tracing it utilizes. The game even avoids falling into the trap of constant stutters observed in most AAA titles today.

What are your thoughts on the game’s optimization? Let’s discuss in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.

Ubisoft Reports €82.6M Operating Income Loss Amid 20% Loss In Net Bookings For FY24-25

Story Highlight
  • Ubisoft has been suffering from continuous losses for a long time now due to back-to-back failures.
  • The company has lost so much value in the past five years.
  • Now, its financial report has revealed that the company has suffered massive operating income and net bookings loss.

Ubisoft is just a shadow of what it used to be, and many agree with it. This gaming giant was once well-renowned in the gaming industry as a legendary developer, but now it receives only hate.

The fandom that has spent years playing its game has turned against it for multiple reasons. Due to that, it was very likely for the company to go bankrupt this year, but its deal with Tencent seems to have delayed the inevitable. Now, Ubisoft has reported a major loss of nearly €83 million in just IRFS operating income, along with a 20% loss in the net bookings for the Fiscal 2024-25.

Why it matters: Ubisoft seems to no longer care about what its fandom wants; instead, it seems to be focused on the almost non-existent modern audience.

Ubisoft Financial Report Loss
Ubisoft’s financial report reveals losses in many business segments

Ubisoft’s latest financial report has been released, and it doesn’t paint a good picture. The company is in total loss in the Fiscal 2024-2025, and it is only a matter of time before the inevitable happens

Tencent might save it, but there is no assurance as Ubisoft reveals almost €83 million loss in the IRFS operating income and over €15 million loss in the non-IRFS operating income. This would make a total loss of almost €98 million. This isn’t normal at all and extremely concerning.

This year could very well mark the end of Ubisoft if things keep going this way as its debt will continue to rise. Not even Assassin’s Creed was able to save it so things aren’t looking good.

The company has also faced a significant drop in sales and net bookings due to the disappointing releases back-to-back. The delays of Assassin’s Creed Shadows also hurt it a lot. This situation is likely to get even worse, but the company seems to be still focusing on releasing the game.

It has already been confirmed that Prince of Persia: The Sand of Time remake will be released in March 2026.
