Just recently, it was officially confirmed that GTA 6 has been delayed until 2026 to avoid a crunch during the final stages of development.
 
Now that the title has been delayed to next year, an analyst suggests that the delay of GTA 6 means PlayStation and Xbox will sell 700K fewer consoles than expected in 2025.

Why it matters: Not too long ago, the Take-Two CEO also stated that the release of GTA 6 would bring huge boosts in PlayStation and Xbox sales.

As reported by The Game Business, Analytics firm Ampere Analysis has reduced its 2025  sales forecast for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X by 700K units soon after the delay of GTA 6.

Not only that, but Ampere Analysis has lowered its sales forecast for the video games market for consoles, mainly for PlayStation and Xbox game sales, by 21 million units. It has been further suggested that the console market will miss out on  $2.7 billion in revenue just in 2025, following the delay of GTA 6.

You would expect people to spend on other things [instead]. But that kind of transfer will not be entirely. There will be a significant impact.

While it has also been suggested that the video game industry growth will only be by 0.9% this year, which is likely to improve to 2.2% next year because of GTA 6.

The report further suggests that while Xbox and PlayStation will have a quiet year, Nintendo Switch 2 is likely to see a boost in sales as it is also the second device of the owners of PlayStation 5.
